Although there are some varieties of this plan, it typically involves eating two eggs with fruit at breakfast and eggs or another lean protein at lunch and dinner, along with only non-starchy vegetables, explains New York City-based dietitian Erin Palinski-Wade, RDN.
Though it may sound relatively healthy, the boiled egg diet is a fad diet. This is a version of a low-calorie, low carb diet that will promote weight loss, but will not be sustainable long-term and does not provide your body with balanced nutrition, she says. You may lose weight temporarily, but the results won't necessarily last.
There are different versions of the diet, but the most common consists of three meals per day, and no snacks or desserts, says Keri Gans, a registered dietitian nutritionist in New York City.
Throughout the day you need to make sure youre eating three eggs, or two eggs at the very minimum. Youre also free to consume lean proteins, non-starchy veggies, specific fruits, and a little bit of fat, Gans notes. More specifically, some samples of allowed foods, according to Gans, are the following:

That said, while there are some common foods that youre able to eat on the boiled egg diet, theres also a significant list of foods that you are not supposed to eat while following this limited plan. Other than eggs, non-starchy vegetables, and a small bit of fruit, other food groups such as grains, dairy, and fats are all off limits, Palinski-Wade says.
Specifically, the diet suggests avoiding all processed foods, and even other veggies like potatoes, corn, peas, and legumes, Gans says. Youre also asked to avoid some fruits: bananas, pineapple, mango, dried fruits, and sweetened beverages, Gans explains.
So, if youre aiming for a balanced diet that includes grains, dairy, various fruits, and fats (which is totally understandable), its important for you to note these limitations before diving into a hard-boiled-egg-focused plan.
Not quite. The recommended foods on the diet do have health benefits, but because there are also so many other foods to avoid, the diet is considered highly restrictive, Gans explains.
You should also know there are long-term concerns. This is a restrictive, unbalanced way to eat that could result in nutritional deficiencies long-term and is not sustainable, Palinski-Wade adds.
Best to chat with a health care provider before trying it.
If weight loss is important to you, know that you'll probably lose weight on this diet, Palinski-Wade explains, since its low in calories and carbs. The initial weight loss will include water losses, resulting in exciting results, but not much actual loss of body fat.
Over time, the calorie deficit will lead to losses in body fat, but the chances of maintaining these results are low based on how restrictive it is, Palinski-Wade notes.
It's true that eggs are a versatile, nutrient-rich food, packed with vitamins and minerals, and "are a great addition to any eating plan," Gans says. "But one should never simply focus on one food or nutrient in order to lose weight." So if youre going to try out the boiled egg diet, be sure to diversify your protein sources and eat a variety of foods so that youre not getting all your nutrients from the same meals each day.
Another reason why results are hard to maintain? Because the diet is highly restrictive, you're not actually learning anything about how to eat a healthy, well-balanced diet for long-term success, but rather how to deprive yourself of eating foods you may enjoy, Gans says. If you have a history of disordered eating or feel that you might be susceptible to an eating disorder, reconsider the boiled egg diet, Palinski-Wade says.
Most likely, you'll end up regaining weight you lose, and possibly more, since you may wind up overeating following such a restrictive plan, Palinski-Wade says. Proceed with caution. (But if you like hard boiled eggs, eat them in moderation!)
The bottom line: The lack of variety in the boiled egg diet diet creates an unsustainable and possibly nutrient-deficient diet if done long-term.

In order to shed the pounds, Raven-Symon adopted a "low-carb, high-fat" way of eating that she says keeps her satiated in a way that her previous meal plans didn't.
In addition to her new way of eating, the star says that she's been incorporating "lots of fasting" and low-impact exercise into her regular routine.
Raven-Symon says that, in addition to making over her eating habits, she feels like she "finally understand[s] the science of my body and what it needs in order to be at a healthy weight."
The star says that much of her weight loss has come about due to a seismic mental and emotional change. "I call some of my weight 'hate weight,'" she explains, noting that therapy and her happy marriage have helped guide her transformation. "As soon as I stopped hating things around me and my cortisol went down, I was able to not rely on carbs as much and take away all of those things that were really pushing my insulin levels to the point of no return, creating an insulin resistance in me that is very dangerous for future health."
Raven-Symon says she's not letting the number on the scale determine how she feels about her progress.
"I put away that number, I put away that scale," she says. "What I look at is: Am I able to walk up a flight of stairs without huffing and puffing? Am I able to wake up without inflammation in my ankles and my wrists and all of my injuries? Am I able to digest foods without grumblings in my tummy?I'm not trying to hit a goal number, I'm just trying to stay healthy."

Being highly visual, social media can be pernicious for body image because it exacerbates social comparisons, especially regarding attractiveness and fitness. Imagery of so-called perfect bodies is pervasive on social media, and encourages people to over-scrutinise their bodies and faces. The more time people spend living in social media, the more likely they are to believe that it represents reality.
The issue of weight loss advertising is indeed of grave concern for all members of society, especially for women and girls, at a time when child eating disorders have beein increasing. As well as having alarming effects for womens self-esteem and body image, objectified and stereotyped portrayals of women contribute to their devaluation in society.
Since 2019, new UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) rules have prohibited advertising that includes gender stereotypes that are likely to cause harm, or serious or widespread offence. However, perfect body imagery can be harmful to both men and women, so it does not fall directly under these standards.

This is one of the most public responses to the increasing pressure that brands are facing to become more socially responsible. The combination of consumer demand for socially-conscious behaviour, and the viral attention to controversy, means consumers have more power than ever to demand changes from brands.
Take, for example, the luxury exercise equipment brand Peloton. After an ad critics deemed sexist attracted negative attention on YouTube, the company was reported to have US$1.5 billion wiped from share value. The ad, viewed 2 million times, showed a woman using her exercise bike, a gift from her partner, to give a gift back to him (her improved body).
In early 2020, Kentucky Fried Chicken was forced to apologise to consumers for running an ad in Australia that was criticised as objectifying women, after it attracted fierce social media debate. When social media controversies are reported in the wider media, more consumers are exposed to negative perceptions, heightening the debate even further.
Research is now beginning to show the ways in which consumers subvert marketing messages online, drawing attention to some of the negative impacts of marketing and advertising. Research on consumer subversion describes how creative consumers threaten brands by generating their own spoofs of ads, for example, which may then be shared on social media. This is exactly what happened in the case of Peloton.
This happens not just with gender issues, but also with race and ethnicity, disability and ecological sustainability. When consumers turn promotions against firms, finding subversive meaning in ads, it can generate negative word of mouth, leading to adversarial relationships with consumers and ultimately damaging brand equity.
In our ongoing research at the University of Portsmouth, we are finding that consumers are increasingly voicing outrage online about advertising that offends their social consciousness. They use rhetoric to argue for change in the marketplace and ultimately society. The wider media are often keen to report these social media debates, and when they do it has has an accelerated effect on change.
In this shrewd decision, Pinterest is heading off future controversy. In order to mitigate negative effects and protect their own reputations, we advise that all brands and social media companies consider similar action. Advertisers can begin to understand the issues that consumers see as irresponsible by scanning traditional media coverage of controversial advertising, like the Peloton and KFC examples.
The threat of consumer subversion of advertising means that other social media platforms could eventually follow Pinterests example. However, this often depends on the commitment of those in senior levels in these organisations to such issues.
Banning advertisements that promote weight loss, or other products that can be harmful to body image, self worth and mental health, would be beneficial for media companies across the board. Such an approach would prevent short-term negative word of mouth outcomes, and in the longer-term protect brand equity. More importantly it would pave the way for advertising that is responsible as well as profitable.
Hopefully this will lead to a future in which companies are more aware of growing social consciousness and the power consumers have online to make a difference.

How badly do you want to lose weight? Badly enough to give up your midweek burger and a beer? Badly enough to go without a weekend fry-up? Or badly enough to consider having your jaws locked together by magnets, leaving just enough room for you to talk and breath?
Unbelievably, that last option is now a reality. Researchers from the UK and the University of Otago have announced the creation of the DentalSlim Diet Control: a weight-loss device that uses magnets and "custom-manufactured locking bolts" to literally keep the wearer's mouth shut.
When fitted to a patient's upper and lower back teeth, the DentalSlim Diet Control only allows a wearer to open their mouths by 2mm, restricting them to a liquid diet, but allowing for free speech and unrestricted breathing. Phew.
However, despite our scepticism, lead researcher, Professor Paul Brunton hopes the device will be an effective, safe, and affordable tool for people battling obesity.
The main barrier for people for successful weight loss is compliance and this helps them establish new habits, allowing them to comply with a low-calorie diet for a period of time. It really kick-starts the process, said Brunton.
It is a non-invasive, reversible, economical and attractive alternative to surgical procedures."
In trials designed to test the device, published in the British Dental Journal, seven participants lost an average of 6.36kg in two weeks, and, the researchers claim, "were motivated to continue with their weight loss journey".
However, although participants did lose weight while wearing the DentalSlim, all of them gained weight back two weeks after the device was removed. The study also didn't address how exactly you're meant to exercise while your mouth is clasped shut.
While devices like the DentalSlim and even the practice of surgically wiring peoples jaws shut, which was popular in the 1980s, are obviously options of last resort, for most people making sustainable changes to your diet, training and lifestyle remain the easiest and safest ways to lose weight.
