The nutritionist suggested checking the correctness of the weight loss algorithm

Often those who lose weight sincerely believe that they are doing everything right, but the result does not come and enthusiasm is replaced by disappointment. It is worth revising your habits and identifying where the failure occurs, and a checklist from nutritionist Albina Komissarova, which she shared on Instagram, will help in this.

The nutritionist has compiled a list of healthy habits so that everyone can check if they are doing everything right in the process of losing weight. 1. I eat protein, whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and vegetable oils every day 2. I do not exclude lactose and gluten from my product, just to lose weight 3. I do not believe that any dietary supplements will help me lose weight 4. I regularly move, walk, walk, play sports 5. I eat after 6 and have a full dinner

6. I do not forbid myself certain foods: bananas, potatoes, bread, because I think that from some product you can gain weight 7. I eat carbohydrates whenever I want, without being tied to a time frame 8. I understand that losing weight happens evenly and I'm not looking for a diet for the thighs 9. I mix proteins and carbohydrates in my plate, because I understand that the theory of separate nutrition is unscientific 10. I do not drink large amounts of water to lose weight 11. I do not use any detox or detoxification for myself, because I know that the liver and kidneys are great at this 12. I don't believe in magic foods like brown sugar and pink salt that will help me lose weight

Nutritionist Eva Shishova has published a guide to popular diets.

Is weight loss about exercise, food, or is it in the mind? – Gulf News

Dubai: The struggle of weight loss is one of the most real struggles in the world. As someone who grew up constantly hearing about how she needed to lose weight, (although I would not be classified as an overweight person), I perkup every single time I overhear advice on how to lose a few extra kilos.

And, boy, have I heard it all. Someone once told me that weight lossis 70 per cent of what you eat and 30 per cent how you move. So I wondered: Am I giving exercise way too much importance? Should I be focusing on eating less? Should I even bother with exercise?

I go to the gym four to five times a week and I sweat during those sessions! Luckily, I am one of those people who really loves exercising. Theres something amazing about feeling strong, being able to lift things and to run up the stairs without losing your breath. But for someone who works out as much as I do, I dont really looklike the "oh wow, she really trains." kind of girl. I look like the "oh, she looks athletic but can also devour a plate of tacos" kind of girl.

Realisation 1: You can't disregard exercise

I remembered my meeting with Dr Marilyn Glenville, PhD, a leading UK nutritionistspecialising in womens health. She told me, Contrary to popular belief, I believe you can lose weight without exercising. Simplyby changing your diet. However, weight-training exercises are helpful in the process of losing fat faster. As building muscles takes up fivetimes less space than fat, you can change your body shape quicker while you look and feel thinner.

The benefits of regular exercise cannot be exaggerated. The older we get, the more important exercise is for our health. Regular exercise has been linked to a lower risk of cancer, dementia, type 2 diabetes, depression, heart disease and higher tolerance to stress.

Dr Marilyn Glenville, PhD

Exercise can have a powerful all-round positive effect on your health. Moderate exercise performed during the day improves sleep quality and can also soothe insomnia. Exercise also helps to keep your bowels working efficiently and eliminates waste products your body doesn't need effectively.

It also improves the function of your immune system, your lymph system and the ability of your body to keep blood sugar in balance. It stimulates the thyroid gland hormone production and helps to improve thyroid function, together with improving your metabolism. This is especially important if you have an underactive thyroid.

Realisation 2: Tracking is extreemly effective

I became obsessed with tracking everything. I got a Fitbit to track my movement and my calories burned. I loved knowing all this information about my body. Whether I properly slept through the night, whether Ineed to stand up and move around. I learned that I burned 1,300 calories a day on my non-workout days and around 1,600 when I do workout. That's a prettly low basal metabolic rate, which means my calorie intake had to be restricted, if I wanted to notice a difference.

I track my food intake on MyFitness pal and honestly acheieve the best results, when I obsessively add everything, evem just a stick of gum. Knowing what goes in and out of your body is so important, because that is when you start really paying attention and making smart decisions.

Realisation 3: Make movement not feel like a workout

But calorie restriction was so hard for me. Especially when I love food so much. I wanted to eat more because I was always hungry. So I got myself a bicycle. A road bike more specifically, so I could ride around the neighbourhood and not get bored and increase my cardio, which is good for my heart and burning fat. My bike was a basic one I bought off Amazon.

That's always a risk. Buying your bike online and everything about it great, except the fact that I probably need to change the seat, as it gets uncomfortable to ride for a long time. But Irealised that cycling has become so therapeutic to me. Not only do I feel my speed increasing and my legs getting stronger, but I learned so much about my neighbourhood.

To make my bike ride even more fun, I got myself the Bose Frames. They are basically these speaker sunglasses, that areengineered specifically for outdoor workouts like biking, running, and climbing. In my opinion, they are the coolest invention because you don't have your hearing completely blocked by the music, so you can still hear what's going on around you (important when you're out on the road). Theres nothing in your ears or over them. And because thespeaker system is configured and directed towards you, whatever you are listening to isisolated in an audio bubble that you can hear, but others cant.

I had the most eye-opening conversation with Dalia Halabirecently who explained like no other nutritionist ever has why I am struggling to get rid of the extra fat on my body. "I exercise, I never eat junk food and I've been on a diet for basically all of my adult life. Why can't I shed those kgs off my body?" I asked her.

Dalia is a Counselor, Life Coach, Healer, Yogi, Reiki Master and Nike Trainer just to name a few of her areas of expertise. She is a big believer that emotional issues can prevent you from losing weight. During our conversation, she explained that many of my emotional issues, whether anxiety or deeper rooted negative emotions are causing my body to protect itself by holding on to fat as a way to keep it safe and warm.

Dalia Halabi

There are plenty of studies that show, psycological blocks can slow down your weight loss.Weight loss is an uphill battle for most people, but if you aredealing with emotional struggles to top it off, youmay have a more difficult time reaching your goal.

Repressed emotions can affect the body in many different ways. So the emotions that you don'tprocessend up stored somewhere in your body, which could be why your fat just does not want to leave its place. To make matters worse, studies have found that overeating can become a coping mechanism for managing stress in life. The strategy may be more common among those who are already overweight.

"I don't believe in calorie restriction. Your body is asking for a certain type of food for a reason, something is missing there, whether it is the hunger receptors or something deeper," Dalia said, "But you have to listen to your body, proccess the emotions and heal yourself from within and you might notice the fat shedding much easier than it has before.

You need ro proccess emotions, look deep within and as yourself the hard questions. According to Dalia it's "What am I unwilling to feel?" and allow yourself to delve deep into your heart and head and figure out why your negative emotions are stored in your body.

Conclusion: What you need to do

Although we are dying for it, there are noshortcuts.

You CAN lose weight without exercising, by decreasing your calorie intake and incorporating healthier foods into your diet, however, I really recommend that you do not discount working out. Exercise speeds up the process and has an incredible amount of long term benefits.

You canalso NOT lose weight, even ifyou are doing everything possible, including exercising and eating well. You have to make sure your stress levels, emotions and your psyche is in a good place. You need to process emotions. Because a healthy mind truly allows the opportunity for a healthy body.

WW International CEO on myWW+ launch: Users are having ‘greater weight loss success’ – Yahoo Finance

Posted: November 23, 2020 at 7:58 pm

WW launched its new program myWW+ that offers a more holistic approach to weight loss and wellness. WW International CEO Mindy Grossman joins Yahoo Finance Live to discuss the success behind the launch of myWW+ and weigh in on the companys outlook for the next quarter.

- As we get ready for the holiday, and once you get past your Thanksgiving turkey and your Christmas feasting as well, even if they might be smaller celebrations this year, you turn to diet season typically. And let's talk about what people are doing going into that time of year. We're joined by Mindy Grossman. She is WW International CEO.

Mindy, as always, you guys are trying to innovate, come out with new ways to help people control their diet. And so you all just updated your app, myWW+. So talk to me about how you're thinking about innovation in what has become an increasingly competitive environment, not just in terms of food and diet and nutrition, but also in terms of sort of holistic health and working out, et cetera.

MINDY GROSSMAN: To your point, the need for people to have a partner in health has become more acute now than ever as people are doing a complete reappraisal of how they live, how they work, how they spend, but with health and wellness becoming more of a necessity than a luxury. So what we're excited is that we're building on the massive success of myWW, which we launched last year, with myWW+, which is our most customized and personalized holistic program across all our verticals of nutrition, activity, mindset, sleep, all built on community and this idea of really being able to take our investments in technology, AI, and data and really use it for extreme personalization, so from pre-wall assessment, to post-wall, to marrying you with a program that is completely customized. And what we're seeing is certainly it's more holistic, more personalized.

But ultimately, people have greater weight loss success. And they feel that it's theirs. And in an environment where people are looking for more control, and they're looking for ways to be able to do that, this is perfect timing for what we want.

Story continues

The other thing is this is the first time in the company's history that we have a significantly new innovation in a non-food program innovation year. And it really is about how we were able to accelerate our strategies over the last number of months to be able to deliver on this. We launched November 16. It converted in over 4.7 million of our members' apps. And it's definitely attracting new digital members as well.

- Mindy, you're about to relaunch one-on-one coaching, I would assume on the app. To what extent-- what will that look like?

MINDY GROSSMAN: So coaching as a real core part of WW is very important. And it takes different forms. So if you look at our membership verticals, right, our digital membership, which encompasses everything with myWW+, has elements of chat with a coach, the new launch of five-minute coaching, and other elements.

We actually have a new membership vertical launching in December that we're very excited about, really geared to a younger, more millennial audience, called Digital 360. And it is an on-demand coaching, content, and community platform with all our digital assets as a base. And then we're relaunching our Digital plus unlimited workshops to really maximize what we've done, not just with our physical environments but our virtual workshops, which does not have any geographic limitations.

And so you have that coach. And you can find your own cohort. And then we are launching our one-on-one coaching platform in 2021. So across every one of our verticals, that element of support, community, education, inspiration, and coaching is really important.

- Mindy, we've talked a good bit throughout the year. And if there's anything I've learned about your business, it's not the same business as it was 12 months ago or 24 months ago. Looking at it from an investor standpoint, should they still expect that big spike in January because of people doing New Year's resolutions? Because we are-- the argument could be made we are in a steady state of people probably having eaten too much throughout the past 12 months.

MINDY GROSSMAN: Well, we've worked and invested significantly over the last number of years to truly be a technology experience company with a human-centric overlay. But part of that has really been to be always on, and to be there not just in a moment of time but whenever anyone is rethinking what they need from a partner in living a healthier life and really establishing new habits. So if you look even at our innovation pipeline, it's constant. It's not just waiting for a particular point in time.

I think it really will be interesting, though, given what everyone's gone through this year. I do think people are going to use 2021 as a way to kind of reset their purpose and to think about what's really important to them. And that's why we really wanted to deliver something that was so personalized and customized.

- Well, Mindy, talking about sort of reassessing setting goals and also sort of smoothing out ups and downs, I mean, I was looking at your numbers and at your stock chart. Whether you're talking revenue, profit, and the stock itself, you really saw the highs in 2018. So how do you bring that growth back up here? I mean, obviously, you've been talking about some of the measures you all have been taking. But in concrete terms, do you expect to retain those levels in 2021?

MINDY GROSSMAN: If you look at 2020, we entered 2020 with unbelievable momentum. We had the launch of myWW+. We had just come off the nine-city WW Presents Oprah's Tour. And that momentum was expected to continue throughout the year.

Obviously, COVID had an impact on our studio revenue. But if you look at our digital membership, it's been at an all-time high, both in percentage growth and absolute numbers. So if you look at the end of Q3 at 4.7 million subscribers, that's a Q3 all-time high.

But the thing to also recognize is the gross margin, 60% gross margin driven by 80% margin in our digital membership. And retention continues at an all-time high. So those are really important indicators for future momentum and growth in the business.

- Mindy, great to see you. Thanks for joining us. Mindy Grossman.

MINDY GROSSMAN: Always great to see you.

- Thank you.

MINDY GROSSMAN: Have a great holiday.

- You as well. Appreciate it. WW International CEO Mindy Grossman.

The Right Way To Prepare Eggs For Weight Loss (Its NOT Egg Whites!) – SheFinds

Posted: November 23, 2020 at 7:58 pm

Eggs are the perfect staple to introduce into your diet for weight loss. Theyre low in calories and high in protein and other nutrients which will keep you full and get your metabolism going to burn more fat throughout the day. But while eating only the egg white is the lowest calorie option for egg prep, according to a dietitian, theres a better way to cook your eggs to maximize weight loss.

100+ Gift Ideas For Everyone On Your Holiday List

Shutterstock

Boiling or poaching your egg is the best way to maximize the nutritional value of your egg, aiding in healthy weight loss over time. Registered dietitian Emily Danckers explains, You may be surprised to hear that eating the whole egg may help with weight loss. When you cut out the yolk, youre missing out on filling proteins, satisfying fats, and vitamins D, B-6, and A.

Shutterstock

While weight loss does largely hinge on maintaining a calorie deficit, its important to factor in the quality of the food you consume as well. If youre focusing on lower calorie options, theres a good chance that the food you choose wont keep you full as long, leading to grazing throughout the day which can be hard for maintaining your deficit.

Shutterstock

Danckers continues, Enjoying the whole egg can help you feel full longer which leads to eating less later in the day. Pair this with a balanced, reduced calorie diet, and youre on your way to weight loss. Youve always heard breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and its true--especially when you aim to set yourself up for successful eating habits throughout the rest of your day!

Shutterstock

Cooking your egg without oil is the healthiest option while still including the yolk. Danckers says, To avoid adding too much extra fat in the cooking process, try a non-fried approach like boiling or poaching your eggs. If you prefer scrambled eggs or fried eggs, use a non-stick spray to cut back on calories.

When trying to lose weight, make sure youre providing your body with the best whole foods to nourish yourself and keep you full for hours. While opting for egg whites may be tempting to cut down on calories, try to remember that its the quality of the calories that is also important. Youll be thankful when you fill up on a poached egg in the morning rather than a bowl of chips later on in the day!

What are some of the best diets for men? – Medical News Today

Posted: November 23, 2020 at 7:58 pm

Males have different nutritional needs from females in calorie intake and the nutrients they require for prostate health and fertility. A healthful diet is also essential for heart, bone, and muscle health. People may also choose certain diets to maintain a moderate weight.

This article looks at suitable diets for males and what they may include.

A healthful diet is essential for everyone at all stages of life. Generally, males may require more calories than females, while their vitamin and mineral requirements differ slightly.

Adolescents and young males require essential nutrients, such as calcium, vitamin D, and protein, to grow healthy bones and support muscle development. Older males also need these nutrients to help prevent osteoporosis and sarcopenia as they age.

Males of reproducing age can support their fertility by consuming a healthful diet that includes key nutrients such as zinc and selenium.

Diet and moderate weight are also important factors in well-being and mental health. Eating a healthful diet can help reduce the risk of chronic diseases.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), heart disease is the leading cause of death for males in the United States. Certain dietary choices may contribute to this condition, while research recommends adopting healthful eating plans.

The American Heart Association advises the following:

According to the American Cancer Society, prostate cancer is the second most common cancer for U.S. males. The Prostate Cancer Foundation advises males of the top five foods for a healthy prostate:

The 2017 ROMEO systematic review looked at the best diets for males to maintain a moderate weight. Although the authors studied a limited number of trials, they concluded that a combination of the following helps achieve optimal weight reduction for men:

The authors suggest that a weight loss programs delivery is important, with males preferring fact-based language and individualized feedback. With this in mind, males may find it beneficial to use fitness apps or a personal trainer.

There are different dietary approaches for males to maintain a moderate weight. Some people favor low carbohydrate diets, such as the ketogenic or paleo regimens, while others may choose a low-fat plan.

However, the DIETFITS randomized clinical trial found no significant difference in 12-month weight loss between a healthful low-fat or low-carbohydrate diet.

Another 2020 study compared a ketogenic diet with a personalized low glycemic nutrigenetic diet in people with obesity. After 24 weeks, the keto group lost more weight. However, at an 18-month follow-up, the personalized diet participants lost significantly more weight and had greater improvements in cholesterol and blood glucose.

Males can also take advice from the Department of Health, who advise people to check their body mass index to see if they have a moderate weight.

A persons maximum bone size and strength is known as peak bone mass. According to OrthoInfo, males have a higher peak bone mass than females. Males accumulate more skeletal mass during growth, while their bone width and size is greater.

However, males are at risk of osteoporosis, especially after 70 years of age, when bone loss and fracture risk increases significantly. Therefore, it is vital that males support their bones through diet and exercise throughout their life.

Two nutrients that are particularly important for bone health are calcium and vitamin D. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the following foods are suitable sources of both.

According to a 2020 review, a high-fat diet and having obesity affect sperm quality and offspring development.

The authors recommend a nutrient-dense, healthful diet for fertility. Many of their recommendations are similar to the Mediterranean diet, with key foods consisting of oily fish, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

The authors also suggest nutrients that are important for male fertility, including:

Males may choose specific diets for health reasons or to maintain a moderate weight. Some may start a diet to improve their fitness or sports goals.

If they prefer not to choose a specific diet, males can use ChooseMyPlate resources to plan healthy meals. The plate method ensures that a person consumes essential nutrients while limiting or avoiding sugar, saturated fat, and sodium.

Other tips that males can try in planning a healthful diet program include:

All people require a healthful diet throughout their lives, but males require certain nutrients that can change according to their age and health issues.

By setting fitness goals, such as maintaining a moderate weight or improving heart health, males can plan and cater their diet to ensure they receive all the nutrients they need. Combining a diet with exercise is likely to produce the most beneficial results.

Forget oats and yoghurt: 5 reasons why Indian food should be part of your weight loss diet plan – Times of India

Posted: November 23, 2020 at 7:58 pm

When it comes to weight loss, Indian food is not that much-favoured because of its high carb and fat content. Our two staple foods -rice and chapati both are high in carbohydrates and curries contain a generous amount of fat. Both these macronutrients increase the calorie content of the food, hence most people have difficulty in adjusting them in their diet. They prefer western superfoods like oats, yoghurt, salads over the traditional cuisine to shed kilo. But the real problem is not with Indian foods, but the way it is prepared. In reality, Indian foods are nutrient-dense and can not only help to shed kilo but keep you healthy, provided you prepare and have them correctly. Rebel Wilson may have done Mayr Method for weight loss: what to know – Insider – INSIDER

Posted: November 21, 2020 at 2:56 pm

Actress Rebel Wilson has lost a significant amount of weightin recent months after declaring 2020 to be her "Year of Health" and working with a personal trainer on her fitness goals.

She's also reportedly following a new diet called the Mayr Method, according to People. The plan is based on the ideas of an Austrian physician, Dr. Franz Xaver Mayr, developed about a century ago. It's now the basis of treatment at Vivamayr, a chain of luxury wellness and medical spas beloved by celebrities.

Experts have mixed feelings about the diet.

"I've been a clinical dietitian for more than 20 years and I've never had anyone come to me and say they've been doing this," Sue Heikkinen, head registered dietitian for the calorie tracking app MyNetDiary, told Insider. "It's not one of the popular ones, and maybe for good reason."

While it includes some good advice, such as eating more slowly and cutting back on sugar, many of its claims aren't supported by evidence and could in fact stall weight loss efforts, according to dietitians. Here's what experts say about the diet's rules and whether you should follow its advice.

Does it work?Kind of.

Eliminating distractions and focusing more on the experience of eating can be a good thing, according to Bonnie Taub-Dix, registered dietitian nutritionistandauthor of Read It Before You Eat It - Taking You from Label to Table.

Slowing down helps you to better appreciate the taste and texture of your food. This can make you feel more satisfied with your meal, and less likely to overindulge.

"Mindful eating is great idea whether you need to lose weight, gain weight or stay the same, I'd encourage it no matter your diet," she said.

The Mayr Method goes a step further, recommending that dieters chewing each bite of food at least 40 times to slow down the eating process and promote better digestion.

That's unnecessary and likely to be a nuisance, according to Heikkinen.

"Most of us do eat too quickly, but 40 times is a lot and counting that is likely to take away from your enjoyment of the food," she said.

Does it work? Yes, but not because of the reasons given by the Mayr Method.

The Mayr Method claims eating foods like fruits and veggies can help you lose weight by balancing your body's pH level.

There's no evidence this is true. The alkaline diet has previously been debunked since the body regulates its pH level naturally, and no combination of food can change that (nor would you want to!).

Swapping processed foods, sugary items, and red meat and replacing them with whole plant foods can help you lose weight simply because it can decrease calories while increasing the nutrients you consume.

"Eating more fruits and vegetables is always a good weight loss strategy," Heikkinen said. "If it's a way to get people to eat more of those, that's awesome, but it's not because of any alkaline effect."

Does it work? No.

Unless you're sensitive to either lactose (a sugar in dairy) or gluten, both Heikkinen and Taub-Dix said that there's no inherent benefit for weight loss if you swear off cheese, bread, and similar foods.

In fact, some of those foods can benefit dieters. Whole grains, for instance, can help you feel more full after eating, and cheese adds flavor, both of which lead to more satisfaction.

"It's not as if cutting out dairy or gluten is going to make your diet magical," Taub-Dix said. "This shines a light on how celebrities aren't setting good examples when they set their tables if they embrace restrictive diets with extensive do and don't lists."

Does it work?Maybe.

Experts are mixed about this one, since it really depends on the person. For people who struggle with distracted eating or stress-snacking, limiting food to mealtimes can cut out empty calories.

"I think this can be a good strategy for many people.Structure has a lot of value for people because it eliminates that struggle of should I eat or not," Heikkinen said.

On the other hand, small, regular snacks can prevent you from getting too hungry and overdoing it when you sit down to a meal.

"Successful diets include smart snacking," Taub-Dix said. "If you choose wisely, there's a good chance it helps keep your blood sugar stable."

Does it work?Yes, but it's not a "detox."

'Cutting out added sugar is a wise weight loss strategy, cutting out a source of calories without nutrients that don't tend to be very filling," Heikkinen said.

She added that "detox" is a pseudoscientific term that sounds more effective than it really is. And sugar isn't necessarily bad, particularly natural sources of sugar like fruit that are also loaded with nutrients.

"There's no one food that is the cause of being overweight. But it can be helpful and healthier to cut back on added sugar," Taub-Dix said.

Does it work? No, and this one could backfire.

There's some evidence that caffeine, in the form of coffee and tea, can have benefits for your metabolism. There's no evidence cutting back can speed weight loss, so it ends up being an unnecessary restriction for people who enjoy those beverages.

"For weight loss there's so many things people are deprived of, why take away coffee which is low in calories?" Heikkinen said.

The exception is if you typically get your caffeine in the form of soda or sweetened coffee drinks, or have a habit of snacking at the same time.

In this case, being aware of your caffeine habits can help you eliminate some sources of hidden calories in your diet.

Does it work?Definitely not.

In fact, the opposite is true. Heikkinen recommends taking sips of water or another healthy beverage between bites to help slow down your meal. And no evidence suggests there's anything wrong with eating fruits, raw vegetables and similar food later in the day, for digestion or any other reason.

"There's no reason to do this and I don't know where it comes from," Heikkinen said. "It's ridiculous to think that you can't eat a salad at dinner just because it's raw."

Does it work?Maybe.

There's some evidence eating early in the day can have a slight benefit for your metabolism.

And if you're eating a majority of your calories in the evening, you might benefit from spreading them out a bit more throughout the day. But for most people, this is a matter of preference. It's also possible to overdo it on this advice, if you're waking up to a heap of eggs, bacon, sausage and toast to start each day.

"It's good to think about timing your meals to when you're going to need the most energy," Taub-Dix said. "But a big breakfast can be unhealthy too. It's all about balance."
