How to make it: Toss together one-and-a-half cups cooked lentils, one cup canned chickpeas (drained and rinsed), a -cup diced bell peppers, and a -cup diced cucumbers. For the dressing, whisk together three tablespoons of lemon juice, four teaspoons of olive oil, one-and-a-half teaspoons of grainy Dijon mustard, one-and-a-half teaspoons of maple syrup, and a -teaspoon Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper to taste. Pour dressing over lentil chickpea salad and toss to combine. Serve over a bed of your favorite lettuce, if youd like. Optional: Add a -cup pomegranate arils or two tablespoons dried cranberries for a touch of sweetness. This recipe makes eight -cup servings

You can experiment with green lentils and basmati rice in lieu of brown lentils and jasmine rice.

How to make it: Combine two tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, one-and-a-half tablespoons balsamic vinegar, one tablespoon pure maple syrup, and two teaspoons Dijon mustard in a sealed container, such as a mason jar. Shake until well combined, and set aside. Spray a grill or cast-iron grill pan with spray oil. Grill onions, garlic, and squash over medium-high heat flipping once, until desired tenderness. Grill lemon wedges until slightly browned, turning once. Place a bed of arugula in two bowls, and top with one cup cooked quinoa, prepared with low-sodium vegetable broth according to package directions. Add grilled vegetables, tomatoes, one cup low-sodium canned kidney beans, drained and rinsed, and half an avocado, sliced. Season with salt and pepper; drizzle with maple-Dijon dressing. Add lemon wedge, and enjoy immediately. This recipe makes two servings.

Once the chickpeas are a little softer (about three-to-four minutes), pour in a store-bought yellow curry sauce. Allow all of this to simmer for about two minutes. When you are ready to eat, you can top with a teaspoon of golden raisins for added sweetness and a teaspoon of toasted slivered almonds for some healthy fats. This recipe makes three servings and each serving is one-and-a-half cups.

How to make it: Toast two slices of whole wheat bread or a whole-wheat English Muffin. While the bread is toasting, mash half an avocado with Kosher salt and pepper. Spread mashed avocado on both slices of toasted bread. Top one piece of bread with two or three slices of baked tofu, sliced tomato, and arugula. Cover with a second slice of bread and enjoy. If youre feeling fancy, you can also add a drizzle of olive oil or balsamic vinegar (or both) on your sandwich before serving.

Struggling with weight loss is one of the most common shared human experiences. The CDC places the percentage of obese American adults at 42.4%, and new research suggests that more people are on a diet than ever before. (Given the health risks associated with obesity and its link to COVID-19 complications, that's good to hear.) For any possible reason people want or need to drop pounds, there are about a dozen more weight-loss methods for them to choose from.

For centuries, people have tried it all, from ingesting tapeworms in the early 1900s (yikes) to today's popular (but controversial) intermittent fasting. Of course, different approaches have different levels of effectiveness, and the most important factor in any weight-loss program is sustainabilityaka the ability to maintain it for a long time. The quest for such a solution has led many people to download Noom, an app that claims: "Stop Dieting. Get Life-Long Results." (Related: 100 Unhealthiest Foods on the Planet.)

Founded in 2008 by Saeju Jeong and Artem Petakov, Noom's philosophy is one we know well: Crash diets don't work, and people need lasting, healthy lifestyles in order to lose weight and keep it off. The app charges $59 per month or $199 annually and uses psychology in its weight-loss methodology. Specifically, it employs cognitive behavioral therapy (or CBT), which is a common type of talk therapy in which users are encouraged to reflect on their habits, emotions, and thoughts. In this case, this analysis is in regards to food and eating habits in order to identify and permanently improve any problematic tendencies.

While Noom outwardly subscribes to mindful eating over crash dieting and calorie-counting, the program actually does end up counting calories because users have to log everything they eat. It also provides information on healthy vs. not-so-healthy foods, quizzes, and the ability to chat with fellow users and/or trainers (who are not all registered dietitians but are approved by the National Consortium for Credentialing Health&Wellness Coaches). The amount of information, the virtual support system, and the real-time guidance are objectively helpful tools that users have found success with.

Currently, there are 45 million Noom users and the company claims to have helped 1.5 million people lose weight. However, for every happy user review and expert endorsement, it seems there has also been negative critques and concerns raised (oh, and a slew of Better Business Bureau complaints, too).

Most recently, Vice writer Sarah Hurtes investigated whether or not Noom works and/or promotes disordered eating.The main problems Hurtes found have already been flagged by NBC: the app can sometimes recommend daily calorie totals for users that are too low to be healthy, the program fails to ask new users if they have a history of disordered eating, and while the behavioral therapy approach could be a game-changer in theory, Noom doesn't have enough trainers on hand for users to get the one-on-one attention necessary for it to work.

When we asked experts to weigh in on the app, they raised their own concerns as well.

"This approach works for some people and not for others," NYC-based registered dietitian Natalie Rizzo, MS, RD tells Eat This, Not That! "Many are overwhelmed by logging every single thing they eat, and they give up on their weight loss journey Others find tracking calories a useful toolit helps them recognize proper portion sizes and not overeat."

Mitzi Dulan, RD, founder of simplyFUEL, agrees. "I do believe Noom can effectively help some people lose weight in a healthy way by logging food intake, goal setting, and using cognitive behavior therapy."

However, both Rizzo and Dulan express concern about the fine line between helpful food-logging and encouraging disordered eating habits. "Anyone with a history of disordered eating should absolutely not track calories, as it can induce unhealthy thoughts surrounding food," Rizzo says.

In other words, Noom can certainly work for those with no history of disordered eating who are ready to track calories and analyze their eating habits. But anyone who has ever struggled with restricting themselves too much should instead seek the help of specialized therapists and dietitians.

"The vast majority of people have an exceptional experience using coaching and psychology to lose weight using Noom, but like with anything in life, it's not the perfect fit for everyone," says Shanon Whittingham, a holistic nutritionist who is also a health coach for Noom. "It really comes down to trying it out for at least a month to give it a good feel, and then deciding from there if it's a good plan for you."

While Whittingham has seen Noom's CBT approach help users on a daily basis, she advises potential users to think about how they like to work on their weight loss. Noom offers different options for food logging as well as group or one-on-one coaching, but some people may still find that specialized attention from a registered dietitian or nutritionist is best.

Actors have been known to put on and lose weight for various roles, but Jonah Hill has taken things to an entirely new level. Hill became widely-recognized after his starring role in 2007's Superbad, where he portrayed an overweight high school senior. He's since lost weight for roles, put even more back on for others, and then lost it all once again. Jonah Hill has become the weight-chameleon of Hollywood.

Originally known as Honey BooBoo'smother on Toddlers in Tiaras, "Mama June" Shannon rose to fame when her family was given their own reality series, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. After stepping away from the spotlight following the show's ending, Shannon re-emerged in 2017, showing off a jaw-dropping weight loss transformation. Shannon once weighed 352 pounds, but now fits into a slim size 4.

Back in July 2013, Rosie O'Donnell underwent vertical gastric sleeve surgery about a year after a heart attack threatened her life. Masterchef judge Graham Elliot has struggled with weight all his life, and that challenge came to a head in 2013 when he neared 400 pounds.

Elliot underwent a sleeve gastrectomyprocedure that helped him lose close to 150 pounds in a matter of months. Thanks to the specific type of procedure that he underwent, the chef won't have any restrictions when it comes to the types of food he tastes.

Wendy Williams has been a beloved talk show host for years now alongside her own eponymous daytime series, but her new take on life has fans even more invested than they were before. In 2016, Williams revealed that she had lost at least 50 pounds over the previous three years. Since then, she's managed to keep the weight off by adopting better eating habits, including breakfast each and every morning.

When Dance Moms star Abby Lee Miller first revealed her significant weight loss, which took her from a size 24 to a size 16, rumors began spreading online that she had gone through surgery or taken part in a dieting gimmick. However, none of those were true as Miller began losing weight in 2014 through a series of unfortunate circumstances. Fortunately, Miller found a way to maintain her weight in the years since.

After taking the world by storm as a contestant on American Idol, Hudson lost 80 pounds with Weight Watchers' point-tracking system. She eventually became the spokesperson for the brand. Seven years after the weight loss journey, Hudson is still maintaining her slimmer-than-ever physique.

Kelly Osbourne stepped into the spotlight when she was first featured in The Osbournesreality series with her father Ozzy and mother Sharon. Since 2009, Osbourne has managed to lose 70 pounds among several different methods. Once he changed his eating, and exercising habits, Goodman as able to feel better during long days on set.

Kicking off 2020 as the "year of health" for Rebel Wilson, the actress and comedian, has been documenting her weight-loss journey over the past few months, showing off an incredible shrinking figure while in a variety of colorful looks. "I put on the athleisure and went out for a walk, deliberately hydrating on the couch right now and trying to avoid the sugar and junk food which is going to be hard after the holidays I've just had but I'm going to do it!" she wrote in an Instagram post. "Who's with me in making some positive changes this year?"

The 40-year-old has since announced that 165 pounds was her target weight goal for the year, with some way to go. According to Hollywood Life, her dramatic transformation is all thanks to trainer, Jono Castano Acero who told the outlet that he encourages clients to an "extra bit" of cardio every day to keep moving.

"A little tip is to get a watch or use your phone to count steps and aim for 10 thousand steps a day," he said. "If you're on 9000 steps at 10pm, you have to get it done." The fitness trainer adds that while Wilson is "one of the sweetest souls" he's ever met, the pair oftentimes end up burning a major dose of calories from all their laughing together.

Rebel Wilson has opened up about her body transformation revealing that taking a holistic approach has been the key to her 40lb weight loss.

The Pitch Perfect star was discussing her weight loss and wellbeing journey on The Drew Barrymore Show, explaining that at the beginning of 2020, she decided she was going to make this her Year Of Health.

For the last few years Ive been theming my years, so I had the Year Of Fun, last year I had the Year Of Love and this year Im like, Its going to be the Year Of Health, she explained.

The actor went on to say that turning 40 in March had inspired her to rethink her health regime.

I never really focused on my health, which was probably obvious, she added.

I was going all around the world,jet-setting everywhere and eating a ton of sugar,Wilson continued. That was my vice. I have a very sweet tooth.I love desserts.

Before she decided to overhaul her health and fitness regime, The Bridesmaids star described herself as an emotional eater.

Instead of the fad diets shed tried in the past, Wilson decided she was going to try a more holistic approach this time.

In order to move forward with her health goals and tackle her emotional eating, the actor realised she had to work on her mental health too and learn to love herself.

So I was working on the mental side of things and thinking why was I doing that?And why wasnt I valuing myself and having better self-worth? she said.

The actor also changed her eating habits and learned how to fuel her body in a nutritious and healthy way.

My diet was mainly all carbs,she continued. Which were delicious, but for my body type I needed to eat a lot more protein.

She went on to add that she thinks she has lost around 40lbs this year so far, but she still wants to lose a bit more weight.

Wilson has been documenting her weight loss journey on Instagram, revealing that she has been achieving it safely and sustainably through eating healthily and exercising.

In a recentpost, which saw her show off her weight loss in a body skimming navy dress, Wilson updated fans on her progress.

She wrote: Thanks for all the love so far on my Year of Health journey - when I was reaching for the candies last night after dinner I thought to myself hmmmm...better not and had a bottle of water instead.

What would the NFL season be without the Super Bowl? The NHL season without the Stanley Cup final? The college basketball season without the NCAA Tournament?

They all would be, well, incomplete.

The New Jersey high school wrestling season without the state individual championships is not a season at all. As Brick Memorial head coach Mike Kiley aptly put it last month the state championships is the carrot wrestlers chase all season long.

The state championships are what make three-plus months of pain, sacrifice, bloody noses, split lips and weight loss worth it. Atlantic City is the wrestling Mecca that draws wrestling pilgrims no matter how arduous the journey to get there.

For many, including the three NJ.com wrestling writers, The States is the premier high school sporting event in New Jersey.

But the coronavirus has affected all high school sports, so far, leaving nothing unscathed. The NJSIAA has already postponed some sports, condensed seasons and even eliminated the state football tournament. The winter season is currently scheduled to begin practices on Dec. 3, still with many questions left unanswered.

Especially one key question from the wrestling community: will we crown individual state champions?

So when two Oct. 28 wrestling coaches meetings ended without locked-in dates for the state individual championships, many assumed it wouldnt happen at all. The uncertainty triggered a firestorm that spread like a California wildfire and unsurprisingly triggered those feelings of disappointment, frustration and hurt we wrote about last month. The NJSIAA took heat on social media for days.

Can New Jersey safely -- thats a word that cannot be understated -- have individual wrestling championships in the midst of a coronavirus resurgence that has in-state schools returning to virtual learning, hospitals filling up again and our governor considering new -- and some old -- protocols to try and combat its spread?

NJ Advance Media believes it can be done -- not simply, not without change and probably not without opposition from some faction of the wrestling community. We know wrestlings die-hard fans dont like change, but if the goal is to crown the best wrestler in New Jersey in every weight class -- and we believe that point can not be argued -- we have to give in order to get what we want.

Change would be inevitable, but putting an emphasis on crowning a state champion - and working within the NJSIAAs plan for a two-week postseason - weve created a proposal that:

Heres our pitch.

With the exploding pandemic numbers across the state, the potential of super-spreader events like Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years and the travel that goes with it, it seems highly unlikely winter practices will start Dec. 3 as planned. The same goes for the opening day of the winter season on Dec. 21.

If wrestling cant start on time, why start it at all? Or, why start something that cant be finished? If we are enduring only the start of a second wave, why risk having to shut sports down in January or February?

And as things stand, its unclear if large multi-team events, like the individual wrestling tournaments would even be allowed by Feb. 5.

Our suggestion: Move wrestling to Season 3. Youd get the benefit of time - and improved weather (well get to that in a moment). Right now Season 3 is home to only two sports -- gymnastics and girls volleyball.

The clock is ticking, Delbarton head coach Byran Stoll said. As the clock ticks down to our Dec. 3 start date, cases are soaring. Under the current plan, I think it would be 1-very difficult to even get the wrestling season started and 2-get through the whole thing. So right now, I think its the prudent choice to be able to push it back and give us more time. You read about the vaccines and potential treatments, so obviously the more time we have, the better.

To think that we could be starting in three weeks with everything going on around us is, well, dumb, said Ocean Township head coach Cip Apicelli. We start on Dec. 3 and by Dec. 15, 50 percent of the schools will have gone virtual? What sense does that make?

The Season 3 parameters are currently as follows:

Practice begins: Feb. 16, 2021

Regular-season competition: From March 3 to April 14

Postseason: April 15-24.

Heres why Season 3 makes sense:

It buys time for a vaccine to be developed and distributed. Pfizer Inc. said that its COVID-19 vaccine may be a remarkable 90% effective, based on early and incomplete test results.

Wrestling, boys basketball and girls basketball would not be sharing gymnasiums and locker rooms. It promotes safety -- fewer individuals sharing confined, indoor spaces. Overseeing agencies like those type of things.

With people staying at home for the holidays and going out less after Christmas and schools going on winter breaks, perhaps the rate of infection will be slowed. We urge the NJSIAA to take the chance and believe COVID-19 numbers will be trending down in mid-February, as opposed to going up in early December.

I am absolutely in for that, said Gateway head coach Jim Rutter. I have not had a Christmas holiday since 1975. Lets just keep conditioning. Ive been hearing schools might shut down from Thanksgiving to MLK Day. Im all about health. Lets get through the holidays. Why start it up just to get shut down? Mid-January to late-April is perfect.

In our opinion, the safest way to allow fans to attend the state wrestling championships is to hold it outdoors, say at Rutgers Stadium on the turf or at Princeton or at MetLife Stadium.

We know Rutgers has successfully hosted outdoor wrestling before. We know Rutgers was expected to be a bigger player in N.J. high school wrestling this winter, allegedly hosting the Group Wrestling Championships. We know the stadium is big enough to allow for social distancing. So if guidelines for outside activities will be in late-April what they are now, thats 500 fans. Wrestlers and coaches could safely and easily be seated on the other side of the stadium.

Sure, we know it could be raining, snowing, blustery or all of the above. We know it is a prime time for noreasters. We also know it could be 60 degrees for a stretch -- and under our proposal we would need the wrestling gods provide three good days of weather.

If Rutgers isnt interested in hosting something like that, Ill make them interested, said Rutgers University head coach Scott Goodale. "We could put the mats at the bowl end of the stadium. We could spread people out.

We can put 106 on a mat in one corner of the end zone near Section 101 and 152 across the way near sections 122 and 123, Goodale gushed. "We could run a weight class on the same mats every round so people could pick their seats and not have to move.

"The two best dual meets we ever hosted were in the football stadium. There were 16,000 people at those two matches ... 16,000 people. The fans would love it!

Let me know what we have to do to make it happen.

We propose the state tournament be held on April 22-24. We also suggest breaking-up the 14 weight classes over the three days -- 5-5-4, or 5-4-5. The weight classes could go in order, low-to-high, or be intermingled. Spreading the weight classes over three days would mean each weight class only competes for one day, helping to limit the number of wrestlers and fans in the stadium, should there still be capacity limits.

I dont care if its at Rutgers Stadium or a cow field up in Sussex County, Stoll said. "I just want these kids to get an opportunity to compete. I think most guys feel that way. Ultimately, decisions will have to be made about who gets in and who doesnt, but thats so far away from now.

I think its very feasible (at an outdoor venue) and my ultimate goal would be to get as many kids in to have an opportunity as possible.

Under our proposal, 16 wrestlers per weight class would advance from the Regionals. With daylight savings time in play, there could be full wrestlebacks, with medals awarded to the top eight just like there were last March. Because of the time limitations (9 a.m. to maybe 7 p.m.) there would be no long breaks and no clearing the stadium. Who would complain about that?

Could the tournament be done indoors over three days in a 5-5-4 format? Probably. However, if arenas arent hosting concerts and professional sports games, could they host a high school tournament?

Could we host it indoors?, Goodale said. It would all depend on what is going on with the virus. Outdoors? I think we could do that.

And dont think for a second that the NJSIAA will push the season forward a week into May. The one season the NJSIAA will not mess with is the spring, where its athletes were robbed of the entire 2020 season.

People have to understand these are different times, Apicelli said. All you have to do is look at what is going on around us. This is at least an attempt to do the right thing. The proposals Ive seen were for a state championship only. This at least has the districts and regionals.

Heres how we will get to the state championships.

Before you lose your marbles, remember the primary goal is to crown the best wrestlers at each weight class.

Also remember, we said there was going to need to be some giving to get things back in return. This is part of the giving.

The Season 3 postseason is from April 15-24. Thats not enough time to cram in a team tournament if you want individual championships -- even if you did it in a week.

My team would be in a position to win a sectional team title and contend for a group championship and I would still take an individual tournament over a team tournament, Apicelli said. A kid wrestles his entire life to get a shot at that individual title. A team title is great, but those last three weeks are what make the entire season.

The team stuff is awesome, Stoll said. We (Delbarton) got to achieve some great things and unprecedented things last year (finished ranked No. 1 in the state by NJ.com), but at the end of the day, the kids when theyre sweating in August or traveling out to Fargo, the goal is ultimately to be a New Jersey state champion. If you have to make a choice, I think its pretty simple.

Do you really want to crown a team champion only to have the individual championships squashed because of COVID-19 cases after the team tournament?

Why risk it?

Man, honestly, how can you not do the individual thing? said Collingswood head coach Dechlin Moody. "If I told kids no districts, half wouldnt wrestle. What would we have done with Andy (Clark) last year (without states)? I hate to say it, you would almost have to send him to another state. The team stuff is awesome, dont get me wrong, but at the same time districts and beyond is the end-all. Everybody wants to be there, everybody wants to be in Atlantic City.

Look at Vinny Santaniello. Those brothers wrestled in the state final and its their last shot to do it together. That team (Brick Memorial) could have four state finalists. How can you possibly tell them they cant wrestle in the state tournament? I get it, its just sports and its safety first but no state tournament would be a hard pill to swallow.

In an attempt to limit the spread of the virus among the wrestlers, fans and coaches, we suggest three modifications at the district level.

One, cut the number of participants. Nine or 10 teams bringing every wrestler they have for a one-day, indoor event isnt smart, safe or attractive to any prospective hosts.

Our suggestion is to turn the districts into a two-day event April 15-16, wrestling seven weight classes one day and seven the next. That means half as many wrestlers and fans in the building both days.

I was just saying this to somebody, Rutter said. Bring a couple weight classes in at 9 oclock, get them out, bring another group in at 3. (Wrestlers) wont get two hours off between rounds, but thats OK. Thats what they did at Super 32. Im into that. Adapt and improvise.

Two, cut the number of district tournaments in half, from 32 to 16. Why? It will be easier to find 16 hosts as opposed to 32. Districts are relatively close in proximity so there shouldnt be any outlandish traveling. For one year, we can live with disparity between districts.

Next, allow 12 wrestlers per weight class qualify for the districts. Yes, qualify. A wrestler earns his way into the districts. The OPC number, used to seed the districts now, will place the wrestlers, with head-to-head and common opponents used if necessary.

Fans should love the idea of qualifying for the districts. With only 12 wrestlers qualifying, coaches would almost be obliged to send good wrestlers out against other good wrestlers to gain more ranking points. What fan likes seeing top wrestlers getting forfeits in nearly every regular-season dual meet?

If you wrestle the way youre supposed to wrestle, the points work, Apicelli said. "The points allow you to see through the records. If a kid who is 14-1 doesnt have any quality wins, he may seeded behind a wrestler who is 10-5 and has wrestled three or four quality opponents.

If a wrestler wants to get to a certain place in the district seeding the coach is going to have to allow him to wrestle better kids. For a freshman, he starts the season with a ranking of zero. He needs every good match he can get. As a coach, you have 15 matches to get your kid into the districts.

The plan to limit entries drew a mixed response.

Thats something I hope doesnt happen, Rutter said. I didnt make the varsity lineup as a freshman and I remember going to districts thinking thats going to be me next year. I definitely want to preserve that individual stuff.

Under the NJ.com plan, the top four finishers in the 16 districts would advance to the regionals.

Again, concerned about finding school districts interested in hosting regional events, we would reduce the number of regional tournaments from eight to four and make the tournaments two-day events -- on April 18-19. Seven weight classes one day. Seven weight classes the second day.

The regional tournaments can be seeded as they are now, using established criteria. There could be wrestlebacks after the quarterfinals to ensure the best four wrestlers move on to the state tournament.

We wish there were a way to make that third-fourth-place bout have stay-or-go implications, but we couldnt figure out how. It doesnt seem right that regional finals and third-place bouts really count for nothing other than the color of the medal. Perhaps, there is some astute wrestling mind out there who can figure that out.

There was discussion at the end of last season about the girls having state championship away from the boys tournament. That is an absolute must this season.

The issue for girls wrestling is how wrestlers accumulate points and wins to be seeded without dual meets. There were weekend tournaments for girls last season, but how will those events be possible if indoor event attendance is reduced?

Unfortunately, we dont have those answers.

The girls need and deserve a tournament of their own without playing second fiddle to the boys.

If there is a will, there is a way. The wrestling community, working together, compromising, needs to find that way.

Perspective is important. New Jersey wrestling, as a whole, needs to stay focused on the goal -- crown the 14 best kids.

Anything they put together Im up for, Moody said. If you have to do weight classes on different days, limit the entries, Im up for anything if we can get to an individual state champion.

The NJ.com plan reduces margin for error. There are those who believe the ability to lose five and six times between the districts and state finals provides too much margin for error. There are others who believe there should be wrestlebacks at the district level. Under the NJ.com plan, a bad loss at the wrong time would end your season. Ultimately, there will be a wrestler who seemingly gets the short end of the stick, but that has always happened and will happen no matter what system is used.

There will be 25 percent of the wrestling community unhappy about losing the team tournament, another percentage unhappy about only 16 kids going to the states instead of 32, Apicelli said. But if we go into a season trying to get everything, chances are, we will get nothing.

All you can tell them (your team) is that the NJSIAA has a plan, and it could change, but we have to keep working towards that Dec. 3 start date, Stoll said. "Ultimately wrestling is a different sport than football. When you talk to football coaches, its all about planning and game plans. Wrestlers are used to get thrown on their back in the first period and figuring it out. These kids are equipped mentally for this type of uncertainty. Its the nature of our sport.

Mentally, I think these kids are equipped to handle it. Im really happy with how the kids have handled things. Theyre going to roll with the punches.

Can the grown-ups involved in the decision-making do the same thing? Lets hope so, the fate of the 2020-2021 wrestling season depends on it.

7 Curve Models Get Real About Their Experiences in the Modeling Industry – POPSUGAR

The fashion industry isn't historically known for championing curvy models, but with a greater focus on size, racial, and gender diversity in recent years, there has, at the very least, been a palpable shift. Still, for many of the successful curvy models we see gracing ad campaigns, runways, and Instagram feeds today (especially those who have been in the industry for some time), the road to getting booked and staying booked came with greater challenges than their "straight-sized" counterparts.

Undoubtedly, the industry has finally reached the territory of noticeable change regarding highlighting images and individuals who represent the various body types around the world, versus a fraction of what consumers actually look like. While reports show that only 34 curve models hit the runways during this September's fashion month (1.48 percent of all models booked), the Versace spring/summer 2021 runway show made an example in featuring three plus-sized models, Precious Lee, Jill Kortleve, and Alva Claire, each looking stunning in their vividly colored, under-the-sea-inspired ensembles. Additionally, in October, widely loved UK-based fashion retailer PrettyLittleThing released their first "plus-specific" collection in collaboration with French model and influencer Leslie Sidora, while other brands from ASOS to Mango have also expanded their selections to cater to curvy women. But in a world where three curvy models on a high-fashion runway is big news and many retailers only offer "plus-size" options for select styles, if any, it's clear that the work is far from done.

To get a better understanding of how far the fashion industry has come in its treatment of curvy models, how far it has to go, and what it's like to be in an industry that has historically prioritized straight-sized models, we spoke with seven curvy models about their career experiences. "I had to reassure myself every day that I was just as worthy and deserved to be in the industry," model Iskra Lawrence told POPSUGAR. "I was doing it for the younger me who needed to see a model like her." Even in a progressing industry, it's clear to many that a subset of curvy models are preferred over others. "There is more diversity than ever in the plus-sized industry, however you are still mostly seeing the same body types which are tall, hourglass, and toned," model Tess Holliday told POPSUGAR, elaborating on an idea she touched on in a recent video post to her Instagram. "There's obviously nothing wrong with those types of bodies, but it perpetuates unrealistic beauty standards, and the idea that anything that doesn't look like that is less than." Additionally, Black and other minority models face other unique challenges in addition to being curvy: "I've had brands tell me I was too big and too dark for them," model Brielle Anyea told us. "A lot of brands tend to only use plus-size biracial models to represent women of color and Black women as a whole."

In an industry that is constantly under fire for its slow transition to widespread diversity on all fronts, these seven models are among the group breaking barriers. Canned tuna is a staple in many kitchens. It is protein-packed, inexpensive, and can last for several years in your pantry.

Despite these benefits, you may be wondering whether canned tuna is actually healthy and how much is safe to eat.

This article discusses the nutritional content of canned tuna, as well as the potential benefits and downsides of eating it.

Tuna has many varieties. However, overall it is an excellent source of protein that is low in fat and calories.

Whether canned tuna is packed in oil or water can affect its nutritional content. Canned tuna packed in oil tends to be higher in calories and fat than canned tuna packed in water (1, 2).

The following table compares key nutritional information between 1 ounce (about 28 grams) of three different types of tuna: fresh, canned in oil, and canned in water (1, 2, 3).

Overall, canned tuna tends to be higher in sodium than fresh. However, the number of calories and amounts of total fat and saturated fat depend on whether the tuna is packed in oil or water.

In addition to healthy fats, canned tuna is also a good source of several vitamins and minerals, especially vitamin D and selenium (1, 2).

Finally, despite being canned, many brands of canned tuna are minimally processed, containing only tuna, water or oil, and salt. Some brands may also add seasonings or broth for extra flavor.

The two main concerns when it comes to tuna are mercury content and sustainability.

There are also some potential downsides to canned tuna specifically, including fat and sodium content and the safety of the can itself.

Mercury is a heavy metal that is often present in fish due to water contamination.

Research has shown that high exposure to mercury can cause serious health problems in humans, including impairments to the central nervous system (13, 14).

Because tuna eat other small fish that may already be contaminated with mercury, this metal may collect and concentrate in tuna. Thus, tuna tends to be higher in mercury than other types of fish like salmon or tilapia (15).

The amount of mercury present depends on the type of tuna.

In general, larger varieties of tuna, like bigeye and albacore, tend to be higher in mercury. On the other hand, smaller tuna fish, like light tuna and skipjack, are lower in mercury (15).

As canned tuna typically contains younger and smaller types of tuna, including light and skipjack, it is typically lower in mercury than frozen or fresh tuna filets (15, 16).

Studies have shown that people who consume high mercury fish at least once a week have elevated mercury levels and are more likely to experience fatigue (17, 18).

People should limit their intake of canned tuna made from albacore to one 4-ounce (113-gram) serving per week. This is because it is higher in mercury (19).

Instead, try eating low mercury fish like light and skipjack tuna.

Importantly, research has shown mercury exposure is particularly toxic to a developing childs nervous system. For this reason, caregivers should limit the canned tuna they feed infants and young children (20, 21).

According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), children aged 210 can have up to 1 ounce (28 grams) of low mercury fish, including light and skipjack canned tuna, two to three times per week (22).

Health authorities have not traditionally recommended fish intake in infants during the first year of life.

However, some research suggests that earlier exposure is associated with a reduced risk of asthma and eczema (23, 24).

However, there are currently no recommendations for canned tuna intake in infants. Therefore, it is best to ask your pediatrician how much canned tuna you can safely introduce to your baby and at what age.

The FDA recommends that women who are pregnant or breastfeeding avoid fish high in mercury.

Intake of albacore canned tuna should be no more than 4 ounces (113 grams) per week (22).

However, the FDA says it is safe for pregnant and breastfeeding women to eat low mercury fish, such as canned tuna made from light or skipjack tuna (22).

It recommends two to three 4-ounce (113-gram) servings per week (22).

Because tuna is so popular, there is a growing concern that certain types are being overfished.

Western Pacific blue-eye tuna and Indian Ocean yellowfin tuna may be particularly vulnerable to overfishing (25).

Overfishing is a concern because it affects the ecosystems of oceans and can reduce the food supply for populations that depend on these fish as their primary source of protein (25, 26).

The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is an international nonprofit organization that provides independent certification to seafood products harvested with sustainable fishing practices.

For a more sustainable option, look for canned tuna products with the MSC certification on the label.

Canned tuna is often higher in salt than fresh tuna. If your healthcare provider has recommended reducing your salt intake, you may want to choose brands that are lower in salt.

Additionally, if you are trying to lose weight, you may want to choose tuna packed in water rather than oil to avoid consuming excess calories.

As for the can itself, some cans contain bisphenol A (BPA), an industrial chemical used in the lining of cans to help prevent the metal from corroding or breaking (27).

While the effects of BPA are controversial, some people are concerned that regular exposure could negatively affect human health and increase the risk of certain diseases (27, 28).

Due to these potential effects, you may want to choose BPA-free cans. However, scientists need to do more research on BPA and its effects on humans.

Finally, always inspect your cans for any signs of spoilage or contamination, such as sharp dents, cracking, leaking, or bulging.

If your cans have any of these signs or the contents have an off smell or color, it is best to throw them out to avoid potential foodborne illness (29, 30).

Look for low mercury varieties like light or skipjack tuna, BPA-free packaging, and certification for sustainable fishing practices.

Canned tuna is a nutritious and inexpensive source of protein.

Because cans of tuna last for several years, they are excellent for stocking your pantry with easy lunches and snacks.

Opt for varieties that are sustainable and low in mercury. To do this, choose products made with light or skipjack tuna and make sure they have an MSC certification on the label.

Another way to to eat less is to face how much we eat in general. Considering the amount of processed food we eat, it's easy to count the amount of caloriesand macronutrients (lipids[fat]/carbs/protein) we consume by using apps that scan barcodes of food items and does the adding up for us.

The best known of these apps is MyFitnessPal, but there are many other apps that can do the same thing. Garmin watches can integrate with it o you can see calories consumed vs calories burned on your wrist. Fitbit does a similar thing with its Fitbit Premium service.

By realising just how many calories are in certain food items we eat, we can make more educated decisions about snacking in the future. Can you eat a box of Jaffa cakes in one sitting? That's 450 'bad' calories consumed and to burn it off, you would have to do an hour of HIIT workouts. Which you probably won't.

A 2012 research called "Dietary intakes associated with successful weight loss and maintenance during the Weight Loss Maintenance Trial" came to the following conclusion: "participants who substituted protein for fat lost, on average, 0.33 kg per 6-months during Phase I and 0.07 kg per 6-months during Phase II per 1% increase in protein." Also, "increased intake of fruits and vegetables was associated with weight loss in Phases I and II: 0.29 kg per 6-months and 0.04 kg per 6-months, respectively, per 1-serving increase."

'Phase I' referred to an initial 6 month weight loss phase, while 'Phase II' 30-month weight loss maintenance phase. As always, though, we recommend taking these results with a pinch of salt. We are not questioning the validity of the research it was a long-term randomised controlled trial but we also don't recommend getting rid of all the fat from your diet.

However, adding more protein to your diet can curb hunger by making you feel fuller. As well as that, since our bodies haven't got protein reserves, swapping out some bad carbs and fats to protein could help you lose weight and keep it off. Controlling energy intake wouldn't hurt either.

Even if you don't want to swap out Mars bars for kale and broccoli, you can drastically reduce calorie consumption by only eating in a certain time-window a day. Probably the most popular way is to do intermittent fasting. There are two ways to go about it: either the 5:2 diet or the 16:8 fast diet.

With the 5:2 diet, you restrict calorie intake for two days a week, down to 700-800 calories, while for the rest of the weeks you eat normally. The 16:8 diet is a daily fast, where you eat only in an 8-hour window. With the latter, the most convenient way is to fast while you sleep: have your last meal at around 8 pm, and have the next one at 12 pm the next day. This way, you sleep through most of the fats, making it super easy to do so. Well, somewhat easier anyway.

Drinking more water is beneficial for a lot of reasons and now that we are all grounded in our homes, people can't really use the usual excuse not to drink more, which is "I'll need to go to the toilet more often", since the loo is really always available at home (we hope so anyway).

Drinking plenty of water can help metabolism and, most importantly, it can also help you feel fuller for longer. The best combination is eating more fibrous food more vegetables, mainly and drinking plenty of water. Cold-pressed bars are okay as a snack too with lots of water, although they are by nature quite high in sugar.

Low-sugar protein bars and savoury snacks like beef or vegan jerky are a great alternative to chocolate bars as a mid-afternoon snack. Nuts are okay although they are very energy dense (high in good fats) so you should only eat a small portion at the time.

Although we are stuck indoors, having a fitness tracker or running watch around your wrist can still be beneficial. One of the more casual feature of these fitness wearables is the 'movement reminder' that prompts you, once every hour, to get up and walk for a bit. Now, being in isolation doesn't help but getting off from the sofa periodically can be beneficial for your overall wellbeing nevertheless, even if it is just to have a stretch or to put away some washing.

Fitness trackers and running watches also measure calories burned so you it can adjust your calorie consumption to your calorie expenditure. These devices are not ultra precise but they will give you a good estimate nevertheless.

Just like fitness trackers, bathroom scales the smart scale variety can also measure energy expenditure and tell you how many calories you burn, as well as other deets about your body, like bone/muscle mass and, most importantly, body fat percentage.

They don't even cost the earth either: the Tanita BC-401 body composition monitor is less than 80 and measures 10 different body metrics. Cheaper than getting a Garmin Fenix 6 Pro, for sure, although the Tanita BC-401 won't be that much of a help when it comes to navigating forest trails, unlike the Garmin's offline topographic maps.

HIIT workouts have never really gone out of fashion but they are definitely 'in' at the moment, mainly because they are an effective way to burn calories and can be done indoors, using your bodyweight only, a kettlebell, dumbbells, treadmills, exercise bikes, rowing machines and basically everything you can think off. Best way to motivate yourself to move more and therefore to burn more calories more efficiently is set up a challenge for yourself. Although you can't leave the house for leisure activities but you still have plenty of options. How about a 30-day push up challenge? Start with doing one on day one and adding one more every day and see if you can keep up with the pace.
