Rebel Wilson is stunning as she nears weight loss goal – The List
Posted: October 7, 2020 at 2:55 am
Wilson has been on a fitness journey for some time. In March 2019, her former personal trainer, Gunnar Peterson, told Us Weekly that Wilson was working hard at the gym. "She is crushing!" he said."Never misses [a workout]. Comes in even on travel days and right when she gets back. She is locked in! I love working with her!"
Peterson revealed that Wilson had been working with him since 2018 and that he had been subjecting her to a pretty intense workout. "Lots of strength work with dynamic intervals spliced throughout," he said. "Think sled work, Technogym's SkillRun treadmill with sled and parachute protocols, focus mitts, moving kicks to pads, rope work, vertical rope work, sledgehammers. He added that Wilson's workout routine consists of "any and everything to keep her body guessing and her mind engaged!"
Peterson said that while Wilson's workout was tough, they still had fun "During the workout it's work," he said. "But in between, we're going to trade a pleasantry or a joke or a jab. Rebel's right there with you. She's clever and funny and smart. I love being around people like that. That's why I like this job."

"I have never felt happier": Lockdown provides a chance for Preston people to shed the pounds – Lancashire Post
Posted: October 7, 2020 at 2:55 am
Karen and Emma both lost between two and four stone in lockdown
But for Emma Quiggs, 42, the pandemic proved an opportunity to shed the pounds and teach herself to cook healthy meals for her family.
Unhappy shopping for size 16 clothes and made redundant from her job as an orthodontist receptionist, she joined slimming world and lost two and a half stone.
She said: "Lockdown has been a blessing for me and I have never been happier. Every year after Christmas I tell myself I will lose weight but never do. At the start of the year I did dry January and began walking round Preston docks with my friends to help with my mental health.
"Last year I really struggled with my anxiety which caused me to gain the weight. I spent most of my days eating rubbish and feeling sorry for myself but this year I knew I didn't want to be like that.
"I have never been able to cook, so after I was made redundant from my job, I bought recipe books and joined slimming world and that was mainly how I started losing the weight, as well as the walking. I exercise most days now and find the walking really helps with my mental wellbeing too."
Mum-of-two Karen Simmons, from Waterloo Road, Ashton, also used her time in isolation to transform her body, losing almost four stone since April and dropping from a size 20 to a 14.
Since having her youngest daughter, she said she had 'piled on the pounds' and knew she needed to change her lifestyle during lockdown.
She said: "I knew I was stuck in, not going to work and feared I would get bigger and bigger if something didn't change. I kept looking at myself in the mirror and felt unhappy and noticed my clothes were getting more snug.
"My mum joined slimming world and offered to pay for me to join which, in other words, was her telling me I needed to lose weight. It started coming off quite quickly and I knew that by turning round my eating habits it would help me lose weight in exercise too."
The 'couch to 5k' challenge encouraged Karen and her friends to begin running, which she now does three to four times a week to continue her battle of weight loss. She claims she couldn't run for 60 seconds without being breathless, and can now tackle two miles without stopping.
Ran by the NHS. the scheme offers a running plan for beginners over a nine week period. The phone application helps people to track their progress and feel inspired through weekly podcasts.
"I have so much more energy to do things with my children and feel and look so much better," she added.
According to a new survey, 48 per cent of people say they have put on weight during lockdown - but helping gym-fearers to combat their weight gain is 26-year-old Charlotte Berry - a personal trainer from Ashton.
She told the Post that her twice-weekly fitness classes at Ashton Methodist Church have picked up more interest in lockdown with people using their time in isolation to focus on their wellbeing.
"When we were first able to do classes again, I started doing them outdoors and noticed that so many people were eager to come out and get fit because the risks were so much lower," she said.
"People have definitely had more time to focus on themselves in lockdown and they have more options available to them to enjoy exercise more. With people being off work and at home going to the gym or a class isn't the same sacrifice as it was before because it just feels like an added extension to their day.
"I have a great group of women who come to my classes to escape working from home and being in their own bubbles. It is more than just weight loss and fitness, for many of them it is about being around others and socialising. A lot of people are put off by gyms because of the stereotypes that go with it so going to small socially distanced classes or having me go to someones house for a class takes the pressure off."
A new Kings College London and Ipsos MORI survey of 2,254 people has addressed the question. 48 percent of respondents say they have put on weight during lockdown.
Experts say it is important to have 'self compassion' at a time of heightened stress but worries over unhealthy diets in lockdown remain.
Research by The 1:1 Diet showed that the diets of 25-34 year olds have been most affected, with 59 per cent saying they have gained weight during lockdown.
And increased alcohol intake, comfort eating and lack of exercise are some of the key factors behind the weight gain, as people have socially distanced from everything but the fridge and food cupboards.
Mark Gilbert, Commercial Nutritionist at The 1:1 Diet, said: The COVID-19 outbreak finds us in a time of uncertainty, with many turning to food and drink for comfort.
The research weve commissioned shows that, while some find the change in their routine is impacting their weight, for others it is raising awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
At this time, it is essential to follow the Governments current guidelines regarding exercise, and maintain a balanced diet, so as to avoid negatively impacting our overall physical and mental health during lockdown.

Dr. Eric Feigl-Ding, an epidemiologist and a Senior Fellow at the Federation of American Scientists, joins The Final Round to discuss his thoughts on the latest developments with the coronavirus as the White House approves the newest FDA guidelines on vaccine approval and the vaccine race.
SEANA SMITH: Welcome back to The Final Round. Lets get to the latest on coronavirus. The Wall Street Journal reporting that the White House has dropped its objections and has signed off on the FDAs guidelines for approving a coronavirus vaccine.
For more on this, we want to bring in Dr. Eric Feigl-Ding. Hes an epidemiologist and senior fellow at the Federation of American Scientists. And we also have Yahoo Finances Anjalee Khemlani joining the conversation.
Doctor, its great to have you on the show. With the White House signing off on the FDAs two-month COVID-19 vaccine guideline, I guess my first question to you is, where does this put us on a likely timeline for a vaccine to be approved?
ERIC FEIGL-DING: Well, the vaccine actual timeline hasnt changed. Its whether Trump would have previously had the gall and ability to overrule the FDA in approving it without the extra safety data.
So if anything, this will actually make the trials reports in confidence more safe because we will have the extra data to be sure that is efficacy has it works well enough and safe. And I think this is good news all around. It just means that Trump unlikely would be unlikely to approve it before election day.
SEANA SMITH: And doctor, we talk about the fact that with this vaccine, so many Americans, weve seen survey after survey that they are hesitant about potentially taking a vaccine, that there is a lot of distrust out there. Do you think that this type of headline at least would help improve Americans and their trust for a potential vaccine?
ERIC FEIGL-DING: Yeah, I think this is a really good move. Because one-third of Americans say they wont take it outright. One-third say they will, and one-third said, well see. And this wait and see and the huge number of people wont taking is really worrisome because a vaccine is only as good as how many people take it, right? A 100% effective vaccine is only 50% effective if half the people take it.
Story continues
And so I think this lays the seed that people can trust it, that when the results come out, the scientific community will get behind it, as opposed to panning those too early and too risky. And that key messaging is one of those things where you will actually win the war in the long-term against the coronavirus next year whenever it rolls out in the general population.
ANJALEE KHEMLANI: Doctor, Anjalee here. I know that Dr. Peter Marks, who we all know is the FDAs top vaccine expert there, has been at various events and symposiums talking about this two-month period, but also saying that they wish they had more time, spurring what I think is a letter from multiple health experts pushing for even more time.
Now that the White House caved on the two months, any chance that we will just continue following science on this one? And is more than two months necessary?
ERIC FEIGL-DING: Yeah, I think we will probably need longer. It depends the timeline actually depends. A trial has enough data when, actually, enough people get sick, and you can actually have a contrast between the vaccine and the placebo group.
But I think, you know, this is a good first start. Actually, the FDA posted online, against the White House wishes, in one of their other side websites, which kind of forced our hands. Because then the White House would have had to undermine the FDA publicly, very publicly.
So in certain ways, the FDA won this battle, they won it grudgingly. And hopefully, there wont be any more of these [INAUDIBLE]. But technically, Trump can still approve the vaccine over because as of last month, they assumed all the approval powers from the FDA. So hopefully, they will abide by this. And hopefully, well have good data.
SEANA SMITH: Doctor, I want to get your thoughts just on what we heard from President Trumps campaign today. And thats the fact that hes planning to debate Joe Biden next week. Now its scheduled for October 15th, which will put us just two weeks after the president had tested positive.
Just from your perspective, as a doctor, are there any safety concerns that you have about Trump attending the debate and participating in the debate?
ERIC FEIGL-DING: Yeah, Trump, for example, he took his mask off yesterday. Hes still infectious. On average and this is average people recover and theyre no longer infectious after 10 days after they show symptoms. 10 days is very, very close to the 15th.
And honestly, you know, Trump is much older, and he has risk factors. So he could actually be infectious and sick longer than normal. So 10 days is average. Half the people are longer than that. So he could still be infectious at the debate.
So I think at minimum, you should have much better plexiglass, which, by the way, Pence rejected for the debate tomorrow against Kamala Harris, which is very weird and strange. But personally, I think there should be a virtual or rescheduled.
AKIKO FUJITA: Doctor, looking at all the vaccine developments outside of the US, weve got China now looking to get some kind of assessment from the WHO to allow for the emergency use of some of their vaccine candidates.
And Im curious how significant you think any kind of assessment or approval from the WHO would be, especially given concerns about the way in which the trials have been conducted in China, the safety and efficacy questions. I mean, ultimately, is this really about trying to get the vaccine to more of the emerging and developing countries that are likely to be left out as some of the big names that weve been talking about?
ERIC FEIGL-DING: Yeah, I think WHO, their vaccine consortium is the COVAX consortium with Gavi, a Danish group, that US, as a part of warp speed, are completely separated from because US did not want to join them.
WHO is wanting to make sure that the vaccines are safe and get into the hands of developing countries, and hence why they have developed and actually made pharma commit to actually reducing their profits and waving their profits altogether.
Meanwhile, the US warp speed vaccines have not. And that probably limits the availability of all these warp speed vaccines for developing countries and getting their hands. So WHO cares about global health. Again, Trump cares about America first again.
And thats not a good idea because with all these vaccines, their vaccines could actually be superior to ours. And now were basically putting all our eggs in one basket. And that is risky.

Beyond the Byline: Back to my future – Wilkes Barre Times-Leader
Posted: October 4, 2020 at 11:53 pm
October 03, 2020
WILKES-BARRE Teri Ooms, executive director of The Institute for Public Policy & Economic Development at Wilkes University, said this years Health and Health Care Task Force decided to focus on child abuse and neglect.
It is a topic that no one wants to really learn about, but it exists in Northeastern PA, Ooms said. It is fueled by poverty and all of the issues associated with poverty unstable housing, food insecurity, lack of health care, etc. and substance abuse and untreated/undiagnosed mental health issues.
Ooms said the Task Force study is really a primer. She said there are so many avenues of research and there are so many heroes in the region dealing with this, such as C&Y in both Lackawanna and Luzerne counties, the Childrens Advocacy Center, the Family Services Association of Wyoming Valley, Womens Resource Center, Childrens Services Center and CASA to name a few.
Child abuse and neglect are one form of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) that can have an immediate and long-term impact on children, Ooms said. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that one in seven children have experienced child abuse and/or neglect in the past year, which is likely an underestimate.
Ooms said one out of every four girls and one out of every six boys will be sexually assaulted before they reach age 18. She said 90 percent of sexual abuse happens at the hands of someone the child knows.
The CDC also reports that children who live in poverty are five times more likely to experience abuse and neglect than those with higher socio-economic status.
In the Lackawanna and Luzerne County region, Ooms said the reports of child abuse have steadily increased annually since 2013, while the percent of substantiated reports has declined.
This increase was partly due to the changes made in Pennsylvania legislation in 2014, which led to an increase in reports as public awareness of child abuse and neglect increased and improvements were made in mandated and permissive reporter requirements, Ooms explained.
According to the PA Department of Human Services Child Protective Services 2018 Annual Report, there were over 44,000 reports of child abuse statewide in 2018, including nearly 2,000 reports in Lackawanna and Luzerne County, and 12 percent of these reports were substantiated.
Overall, there were over 5,000 victims of child abuse statewide in 2018 and 233 children in our region.
In Lackawanna County, 2.5 out of 1,000 children were victims of child abuse, and 2 children out of 1,000 were victims in Luzerne County.
Tragically, seven childrens lives were lost to child abuse in this region from 2016-2018, and six of those deaths occurred in Luzerne County.
According to Megan Stachowiak, Research Analyst at The Institute, Awareness and action can help children. Knowing the signs of child abuse and reporting it can save a childs life.
According to the Task Force report:
The majority of child abuse victims are female, and children ages 5 to 8 make up the largest age group of substantiated cases of abuse, accounting for 26 percent of abuse victims regionally in 2018.
The proportion of victims ages 9 to 11 also increased noticeably in our region, accounting for 22 percent of victims. In nearly half of all substantiated reports of child abuse statewide from 2016 to 2018, the perpetrator was the childs mother or father.
In 50 percent of cases, the child was living in a single parent home at the time of the abuse.
The majority of allegations in Lackawanna County relate to physical abuse (51 percent) while the allegations in Luzerne County (64 percent) and statewide (47 percent) are predominantly related to sexual abuse.
General protective services (GPS) reports related to neglect outpace reports of child abuse. According to the PA Department of Human Services Child Protective Services 2018 Annual Report, there were nearly 170,000 GPS reports received statewide in 2018, an increase of 12 percent from 2016. Of these reports, 24 percent were found to be valid, amounting to over 40,000 victims of neglect statewide.
In Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties, there were over 8,300 GPS reports in 2018, an increase of 19 percent from 2016 26 percent were valid, resulting in over 2,100 victims of neglect regionally.
According to statewide data on GPS reports, children ages 5 to 9 are the most common victims, accounting for 27 percent of reports. Another quarter of victims are between ages 10 and 14, and 22 percent are between ages 1 and 4.
The most common GPS allegations in the region related to parent substance abuse, followed by parental conduct that places the child at risk, homelessness/inadequate shelter, and child and parent behavioral health concerns.
An analysis of data on substantiated child abuse and neglect cases shows that across the Commonwealth, counties that have smaller populations and are classified as rural generally have higher rates of child abuse than those counties that are larger or urban. Higher rates of abuse are also correlated with higher levels of poverty and lower median income.
Child abuse and neglect does not just have immediate adverse effects it is devastating and can be debilitating for victims as they get older,Stachowiak said, Past research has found a causal relationship between experiencing early adversity and later in life health, social, and behavioral complications. These subsequent, lasting impacts of ACEs include injury, mental and maternal health, infectious and chronic disease, risk behaviors, and lost opportunities.
Furthermore, Stachowiak said there are societal costs.
Poverty and abuse are closely correlated; both are also highly inter-generational, she said. If families, parents, and children do not unlearn learned abusive behavior with help of social services they may fall back into the cycle of poverty and abuse and may also write the fate of their future generations.
Stachowiak said there is also an economic impact associated with child abuse and neglect. Research has shown that ACEs can negatively impact education and job opportunities.
According to the CDC, the total lifetime economic burden associated with child abuse and neglect was approximately $428 billion in 2015 in the United States, Stachowiak said. However, treatment and prevention programs are estimated to have a positive economic impact, potentially eliminating some of the damaging consequences of abuse and neglect.
Throughout this analysis, service shortages, gaps, and barriers to preventing and treating child abuse and neglect were identified. They included a high workforce turnover rate among employees of agencies providing welfare services, a lack of parental skill training, a lack of mental health services and therapy services for children, and barriers in accessing basic needs, including housing, transportation and childcare.
In order to address the challenges identified in this analysis and improve efforts to address and prevent child abuse and neglect, The Institute proposes a variety of recommendations:
Reduce gaps and shortages in services.
Provide training to enhance parenting skills.
Improve awareness and understanding of child abuse.
Explore centralization, regionalization, or coordination of child welfare services.
Increase availability of mental health services and support.
Expand access to treatment to lessen the harms of abuse and neglect.
Increase support for stronger family engagement programs.
Improve data collection and reporting.
COVID-19 effects
During primary data collection and writing this report, COVID-19 began to affect the area with school closures, mandated closures of non-life sustaining businesses, and shelter-in-home policies. The effects of these on child abuse are not yet known but all of the individuals and groups who were interviewed noted how they believe these safety precautions will cause spikes in child abuse and subsequent reports once schools re-open and normal life begins again. These effects cannot yet be quantified or verified.
All parties contacted for this study made sure to note that rates of child abuse and neglect would unquestionably be affected by COVID-19. Many noted that the rates would exponentially rise as not only are children home as school has been relegated to the home but because many parents may have lost jobs, are unable to pay bills and provide basic needs, lost childcare, are now having to home school children, have unstable transportation, and much more. Some stated that rates would rise but there would be a delay in reporting as children are not able to visit with friends, go to school and interact with teachers, or attend extracurricular activities during which mandated and permissive reporters might notice a change in a child or would be told by the child that some type of abuse had occurred.
There have been several reports on the national level that the rates of child abuse and domestic violence would be on the rise during stay at home orders and after people were furloughed or laid off. Though, again at the national level, these assumptions have been confirmed, reports from the Womens Resource Center counter this; they have stated that their phones are not ringing when they fully expected them to do so. There could be several reasons for this but one may be if a victim is living and quarantined with their abuser they may be unable to report due to proximity to abuser and/or being provided for by abuser in these strange, trying times.
Data is sourced from the PA Department of Human Services (2018, 2020) and the CDC (2020), (National Sexual Violence Resource Center, 2015), Childrens Advocacy Center of NEPA, 2020; Darkness to Light, 2015 and interviews from a variety of regional organizations

Death by diet: How risky is keto? Experts answer – The Indian Express

By: Lifestyle Desk | New Delhi | Updated: October 5, 2020 8:19:02 amThe actor passed away due to kidney failure caused by keto diet. (Photo: Misti Mukherjee/Facebook)
While dieting is a common practice these days, death due to a certain kind of diet was previously unheard of. Until it was learnt that actor Misti Mukherjees demise was because of kidney failure caused by the keto diet which has gained a lot of popularity in the recent past.
A statement made by her family claims the actor who is survived by her parents and brother was in a lot of pain.
ALSO READ | US man dies of excessive liquorice or mulethi: Know how much to have
Mukherjees passing raises a series of questions on the health risks of dieting. As such, it becomes important to understand the reasons that may have led to her health deterioration and subsequent death.
What is the keto diet?
It entails the consumption of high amounts of fat with adequate amounts of protein and fewer carbohydrates. Also known as KD, this diet is particularly followed by diabetics because it can cause massive reductions in blood sugar and insulin levels.
Nutritionist Ruchi Sharma, however, points out the keto diet is primarily used to help reduce seizures in childrens suffering from epilepsy. Avoiding carbs and substituting it with proteins and fats has become a leading dogma among those who are looking to lose weight quickly, she says.
ALSO READ | Cheat day during Keto diet may damage blood vessels
How does a keto diet lead to kidney failure?
Dr Pradip Shah, Consultant Physician at Fortis Hospital, Mulund tells indianexpress.com: This is a rare case and usually happens when there is a pre-existing disease and someone then continues to follow the diet. Keto diet requires one to eat high amounts of fat alongside proteins and fewer carbohydrates. When a person continues to do this, it affects the kidneys.
Adding to it, Sharma says: We see people doing keto with processed cheese and butter, which when done for prolonged periods of time, can increase the risk of high cholesterol; also high protein can put pressure on kidneys. When we eat a high amount of protein while doing a keto it may overload the kidney.
Drastically reducing carbohydrates and overloading the kidneys can lead to some problem in elimination of all the waste products of protein metabolism.
Dr Shah suggests a person should follow the diet only for six months. If they continue, they need to take a break for 1-2 months at least, and then get on with the same.

Are there any other diets that can lead to organ failure?
Dr Shah says any diet which contains consuming fewer carbohydrates for a longer period of time can cause failure. However, another specific diet is the paleo diet also known as the stone-age diet. It is a modern fad diet which requires one to mirror the kind of diet followed during the Paleolithic era.
He also mentions that consuming sugary beverages such as aerated drinks or soft drinks and highly-processed food frequently, can harm the kidneys. Not only that, preservatives in food items contain phosphorous and sodium, which affect the kidney to a larger extent, he warns.
While many different diseases, toxins and drugs can lead to renal failures, by far the most common causes of kidney diseases are diabetes and high blood pressure which can damage the delicate blood vessels and tissues of the kidneys. When these two are not addressed, chronic kidney disease and ultimately kidney failure can be the result, says Sharma.
She suggests rather than following a keto diet, we can opt for a well-formulated low-carb diet, which is not typically high in protein and can help in reducing as well as maintaining weight loss.
Choose foods that are healthy for your heart and your entire body such as fresh fruits, a rainbow of vegetables, whole grains, low fat or fat-free dairy products. Make physical activity a part of your routine, as sweating helps in removing toxins as well, says the nutritionist.

Getting dreams about getting pregnant? Know what it means – Times of India
Posted: October 4, 2020 at 11:51 pm
When it comes to dreams, they are more often related to our thoughts than logic. There is no specific logic behind dreams, as they are often directed by our emotional thought process. Dreams usually occur in the rapid-eye movement (REM) stage of sleep, when the brain activity is high and resembles that of being awake. Your dreams draw the thoughts going on in your subconscious minds which gives rise to hypothetical scenarios. If you are lately getting dreams related to pregnancy, here is what they could mean. You are pregnantMany times your subconscious mind registers things that you might not think of. It can be either a mixture of your thoughts or something that is about to happen. Usually having a dream about your pregnancy can actually indicate that you are pregnant. It can also mean that you wish to have a baby of your own and it is somewhere in the back of your head. Seeing someone pregnant Dreaming about pregnancy or seeing someone pregnant in your dream can mean a variety of things. It can mean that you miss the person you are seeing in your dreams and might want to talk to them. It can also mean that you might get good news from your close friend or family member. Though there is no certainty about dreams, pregnancy dreams are often related to your thoughts. Pregnancy anxiety Pregnancy anxiety can easily trigger a sequence of dreams related to pregnancy. It can occur during any time of the gestation period and is perfectly normal to have. If you are dreading labor or having anxious issues related to the baby, you are more likely to have bad dreams about the same. Unplanned pregnancy If you are about to take a test for a pregnancy that you dont want, then it can also trigger similar dreams. Usually unplanned pregnancy gives rise to stress and anxiety, which can make you think of such scenarios. The fear of getting pregnant when you dont want to is a common reason behind women getting pregnancy dreams. This does not mean that you are actually pregnant, as only a test can prove it. Twin theory Many people believe that dreaming about conceiving actually means that they are pregnant with twins. This theory is just a myth. Such dreams can occur if you are hoping to get twins or if someone has told you about their pregnancy. They can also occur if you see twins and somewhere hope that you conceive a pair as well.

Gemma Collins looks sensational after 3st weight loss as she shimmers in gold outfit saying Im feeling mys – The Sun
Posted: October 4, 2020 at 11:51 pm
GEMMA Collins dazzled in gold yesterday as she showed off her three stone weight loss in a metallic outfit.
The 39-year-old went for a fancy meal at seafood restaurant Smith's in Ongar and she certainly looked the part.
10
Glam Gem wore her blonde hair in tight waves and went with heavy eyeliner for the night out.
She struck a sultry pose on a wooden staircase to show off her whole ensemble.
The GC posted on Instagram: "Hello WEEKEND Im not gonna lie Im ready to go out from 6pm these days I used to go out at 10/11 feeling myself in my LUNA designed by ME online now thank you@smithsofongarfor making the evening so special as always x ."
Her look garnered plenty of praise with one supporter writing: "Looking absolutely stunning."
10
Another said: "Love love love not going to lie! ."
As a third gushed: "the outfit rocks!!!"
Gemma's incredible transformation hasn't been easy.
She turned to brutal diets, controversial "skinny jabs" and even a 5,000-a-week juice camp in a bid to shed the pounds.
Though the reality diva - one of The Only Way Is Essex's best-loved stars - has always exuded confidence and body positivity no matter what her size, she's made no secret of her "nightmare" battle with food.
She has also courageously opened up about her struggle with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a hormonal condition that made it difficult for her to lose weight after her "very slim" twenties.
In June, The GC admitted to her two million Instagram followers that bullies have "taunted" her over the years, while companies have callously said she was "too fat to promote my brand".

In 2011, Gemma joined The Only Way Is Essex after Julie Childs, mother of Gemma's school friend and Towie co-star Amy Childs, told producers about the then-used car saleswoman.
She was first introduced to viewers as a potential love interest for castmate Mick Norcross, but she quickly became a leading lady.
Keen to feel as confident as possible on the show at the time, she shed three stone at a weight loss bootcamp that same year, sticking solely to healthy foods and a very strict exercise regime, before showing off her slimmer figure (and dramatic brunette hair transformation) on the show.
However, that year she once more turned to food and, at her heaviest, tipped the scales at 21st.
10
Ive done every diet out there, theres nothing I havent done," she previously told Good Morning Britain.
I was obsessed with food. And life revolved around food and eating. There was no brain space in my head for me not to think about food, it was a living nightmare.
Gemma also entered a 5,000-a-week juice camp in Portugal.
The star lived on fruit drinks during a month-long stint at a special retreat, and was weaned off her "addiction" to fatty foods.
That same year Gemma tried hypnotherapy to shed more weight and revealed she had been hypnotised into believing she had a gastric band in a bid to stay slim.
According toCloser, she told Now! Magazine at the time: "I've gone from a size 22 to an 18. I had a bit of 3D lipo and saw a hypnotist called Robert Hisee, who put a hypno gastric band in me!
"Now I have four mouthfuls of food and I can't eat any more. I feel like I can't breathe I'm so full."
She could have opted for a gastric band but ruled it out.
Speaking to The Sun, Gemma said: Im not saying Ill get to a size 10 but I do need to lose weight. For my health I wouldnt be bigger than I am now. I refuse to have a gastric band as easy as it would be.

In order to achieve a healthy lifestyle, it is important to eat well and keep moving.
Many diet plans will help slimmers beat the bulge by putting them into a calorie deficit.
This is when the body is burning off more calories than it is taking in, which commonly leads to weight loss.
As well as changing eating habits, some people have claimed drinking certain hot drinks can speed up results.

Green tea is a light beverage which is full of healthy antioxidants.
According to some studies, it can help speed up fat loss and boost the metabolism.
In one study published in the National Library of Medicine, a group of men had green tea extract before exercising.
DON'T MISS
Those who took the extract burned 17 percent more fat than those who did not.
Another study published in the library gave participants either green tea or a placebo before they exercised.
During an eight week period, those who drank tea also noticed increased fat-burning in the body.
The findings suggest drinking green tea before exercise could lead to weight loss benefits.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, training experience manager at fitness app Freeletics David Weiner also spoke of the benefits of herbal tea.
He explained ginger tea can reduce bloating which can make the waistline appear more toned.
David said: The first and perhaps most obvious benefit of ginger tea is that it is anti-inflammatory.
"Thanks to a naturally occurring enzyme in ginger called gingerol, the root actively works to naturally reduce inflammation, swelling, or bloating of any kind.
Combining the drink with a healthy diet and exercise plan will also prompt weight loss results.
By adding ginger root into tea, one can actively work towards their weight loss goals," he continued.
All the amazing benefits work together as a team to help clean out toxins in the body and can help bring your weight to a healthy number.
Gingerol, in particular, stimulates a speedy digestion and can help stabilise blood sugar levels in the body. This, in turn, can support the body feeling fuller for longer and lead to less unnecessary snacking.
Drinking herbal tea can help boost the metabolism and help promote weight loss.

Only seven percent of veterans taking a placebo reported any improvements.
However, it is worth noting that organisations like the American Urology Association do not recommend yohimbine for the treatment of erectile dysfunction due to insufficient evidence and the potential for adverse side effects.
Yohimbines ability to block the alpha-2 adrenergic receptors located in fat cells could, in theory, lead to increased fat loss and weight loss.
Several controlled studies have put this hypothesis to the test.
On the other hand, two additional controlled studies concluded that yohimbine had no significant effect on weight loss or fat loss.
According to the NHS, there's no single rule that applies to everyone, but to lose weight at a safe and sustainable rate of 0.5 to 1kg a week, most people are advised to reduce their energy intake by 600 calories a day.
"For most men, this will mean consuming no more than 1,900 calories a day, and for most women, no more than 1,400 calories a day," explains the health body.
It adds: "The best way to achieve this is to swap unhealthy and high-energy food choices such as fast food, processed food and sugary drinks (including alcohol) for healthier choices."
