My name is Kimberly Hooks (@kimberly_hooks). I am 30 years old and live in Las Vegas, where I work for a health care company. I wanted to be able to show up for my three energetic sons, so I researched intermittent fasting and OMAD and lost over 50 pounds in one year.
I have always been overweight, or the "bigger" one out of all my friends and siblings. I remember a significant point in elementary school where students had to get health IDs in case of emergencies, and it had all of our information on it like our name, birthday, height, and weight. I remember seeing 105 pounds and thinking how shocking that was, considering I was only in the fifth grade. I knew it was so sad for a 10-year-old girl to think so negatively about herself.
Going into high school and college, I became very insecure about my body and developed an eating disorder because I thought thats how I could lose weight the fastest. I struggled with that eating disorder through college and even after that.
My husband and kids were all sleeping, and I walked into the bathroom and just looked at myself in the mirror for a long time. I thought to myself, "How did I get here?" My self-esteem was at an all-time low. My youngest was eight months old at the time, but I looked like I was still eight months pregnant with him. I knew then that I had to make a change. I took some pictures of myself and started my weight loss journey the next day.
I initially started by trying to eat a plant-based diet, but that didnt last very long. I was on YouTube searching how to lose weight, and a lot of results popped upbut what intrigued me the most was intermittent fasting. I began to watch videos on intermittent fasting and decided to give it a try.

I ate my lunch and dinner and did not snack in between. I also drank at least a gallon of water a day. After about seven to eight months, I decided to try the "one meal a day" (OMAD) intermittent fasting method and absolutely fell in love with that lifestyle and schedule. (OMAD is a restrictive form of fasting, and it won't be right for everyone. This is just what works for me. Talk to your doctor or a nutritionist before trying it yourself.)

I did not start exercising right away. Whenever I tried, I didn't feel comfortable in my body so I gave up. But in March 2018, after I lost those 12 pounds, I felt ready and decided to get a gym membership at Planet Fitness.
I started by walking on the treadmill for 30 minutes and using weight machines here and there, but I didnt really know what I was doing.

Right now, a typical week of exercise for me always includes jumping rope or bike riding. I have really grown to love the two, and they're great ways for me to decompress after a work day. And with bike riding, we do it as a family, so its great to include my boys and husband on my journey.
I also do a little resistance training with weights and bands I have at home, since I havent been back to the gym since all the shutdowns happened.

I want everyone to know something: Just because you gain some weight back does not mean youve failed in any way. Some days you will fall down, but the most important thing is not to stay down.
I have had to refocus and reevaluate what Im doing. Ive had to shift from trying to be thin, to thinking about doing whats best for my body. And thats not trying to shrink it down to the smallest it could go.

Ive shifted my mindset to wanting to be *strong.* I am a mom of three boys who have never-ending energy, and I have to keep up with them. I am still on a weight loss journey, but this time its different. I no longer strive to have the body type of someone else. I dont look down on myself anymore and think my body will never look like theirs. Good! Its not supposed to anyway. I just had to change my mindset.

Last week, Kelly Osbourne shared a selfie showing off her purple hair and 85-pound weight loss. Now, the reality star opened up about how she achieved it on a new podcast. Not only did she change her lifestyle in a meaningful way, but she had gastric sleeve surgery to nudge her in the right direction.
I had surgery; I dont give a f*** what anyone has to say, Kelly said on the Hollywood Raw podcast, according to People. I did it, Im proud of it.... I did the gastric sleeve. All it does is change the shape of your stomach. I got that almost two years ago. I will never ever ever lie about it ever. It is the best thing I have ever done.
Kelly says she also went to therapy for a year to tackle her emotional eating tendencies before going in for surgery. "The number one thing I had to do was get happy," she said. "I had to fix my head before I could fix my body. You can never go into this if youre not in a good mindset."
She also adopted healthy eating and exercise habits. The kind of surgery I had if you dont work out and you dont eat right, you gain weight. All it does is move you in the right direction, Kelly added. "It doesnt solve all your problems. Its not a quick fix.
Kelly admitted that working on shows like Fashion Police, made her "resentful" of the entertainment industry once she lost the weight, since she felt "invisible" for so long beforehand. This has been two years of me working on this. Figuring out if I wanted to be in this industry, figuring out if I was even capable of even losing this weight, she said. I did, and I figured out I wanted to keep going. I didnt do this for anyone. It was a long process, and now Im here and everybody is noticing.
Last week, when Kelly shared the Instagram photo, Olivia TuTram Mai, a.k.a. TV personality Jeannie Mai's mom, commented under Kelly's post. "Oh my gosh, you lost a lot of weight ," wrote Mai. Replying to her comment, Kelly admitted she's actually down 85 pounds. "@themamamai that's right mamma Mai I lost 85lbs since I last saw you. Can you believe it? Kaakakaka."

Kelly also shared a photo of her holding up a size 26 clothing tag (about a size 2 in U.S. sizes), writing "Yes...I'm bragging because I worked hard and it feels good!!!"
This isn't the first time Kelly's publicly talked about her weight. After appearing on the Dancing With The Stars in 2009, Kelly dropped 40 pounds thanks to a combination of her dance rehearsals and switching to a plant-based diet. In 2012, she became vegan with help from her boyfriend at the time, who was also a vegan chef, according to the Daily Express.
She also once told Huffpost that her new diet slowly turned into more of a lifestyle change. "Once I learned how to work out right and eat right, its one of those things that you just have to commit to a life change rather than being on a diet. Because a diet doesnt work. You lose weight and you stop it and it will all come back. So you just have to take baby steps, commit to something and stay true to it."

Kelly started off 2020 with a plan to prioritize self-care. She wrote before the start of the new year. "I have come to the realization that I constantly put the needs of others before my own, she wrote in an Instagram post, also celebrating 2.5 years of sobriety. I allow myself to be put in situations that make me feel uncomfortable for fear of upsetting someone else. Not forgetting the amount of times I co-sign the bulls of others."

Dear Annie: I am a 27-year-old man who needs help. Recently, I met a guy via the internet. We hit it off and have a lot in common. In addition, he lives in the same state I do. Ive seen pictures of him, so I know what he looks like. He even gave me his phone number. I want to call him so we can stay in contact.
The problem is that Im on the same phone plan as my parents, and they are the type of people who prefer face-to-face meetings and are wary of meeting people over the internet. How do I get them to understand that not all people you meet on the internet are bad people? Different Generation
Dear Different Generation: You are not going to get your parents to change their minds about the internet; and, to be quite honest, their fears have some merit. There are some really bad people online. At the same time, there are plenty of wonderful individuals who have met their future spouses online.
Dont worry about convincing your parents. Just live your life and be smart and safe. And consider paying for your own phone plan.

Loves a parade
Dear Annie: Due to COVID-19, my siblings and I were not able to see our very elderly mother for more than two months. When her birthday came around in May, we created Happy Birthday signs and taped them to our cars. We then proceeded to do a drive-by parade, while beeping our horns and hooting and hollering and waving at her. My siblings ages run between 65 and 57 (there are seven of us), and we all have different health issues. So this drive-by benefited us all, and we got to see and celebrate our 94-year-old mom #AloneTogether. Happy with a Parade

It is alright to eat dessert once in a while, but be careful to not overindulge and start surviving on junk foods. Try to avoid processed foods that do not contain the essential nutrients present in a balanced meal.

Exercising during the quarantine has become less than ideal with gyms being closed. But there are still ways you can work out at home using free resources available on YouTube. Some examples of popular fitness vloggers on YouTube are Emi Wong, Chloe Ting and Pamela Rief. These online workout videos are useful during the pandemic because they allow people to socially distance themselves and workout from their homes. Also, the videos allow the users flexible hours and workout when they are ready.
Activity center workout groups
There are group exercise sessions at the Activity Center throughout the week where students can work out together with the guidance of a fitness instructor. Because students are doing the exercises with each other, it becomes easy to stay motivated throughout the session. The Activity Center offers various workout session and intramural sports for students and users of the facility. In the wake of the coronavirus, the administration of the activity center has made changes like the required use of masks and social distancing while in the facility.

In her recent Insta post, Kayla Itsines talks mentions that it may get difficult for people to take out time to workout when you have a packed schedule. Also, it could be demotivating to find yourself unequipped for exercising because you do not have all the equipments at home.
What's more, buying a full year or even three months' gym membership may be expensive for a lot of you out there. "But there are heaps of quick workouts that you can do in the comfort of your own home," says Itsines. Do not let these reasons become a hurdle for those who are looking forward to being regular at exercise.

"You're still going to be getting those same benefits, with a little stimulation."
"If you want to hang a mirror in front of your dining table because of decor, please go right ahead," says Mike. "If you're doing it so you'll hate yourself while you're eating, no!"
"I like this tip, I think it's a fairly benign tip," says Mike, who has identified portion size as a recurring problem in the eating habits of his overweight patients. A smaller plate immediately helps to reduce that amount of food, and he agrees that there is a psychological component to seeing a clean plate and feeling full. "
"I am hesitant to recommend this one," says Mike. "I feel like you can find nutrient-rich protein sources like salmon and tuna, and in addition to the protein, you're also going to get a lot other nutrients that aren't in protein powder, like omega 3 fatty acids."
Mike amends this advice slightly to "chew thoroughly", but sees the value in not eating too quickly, and giving the body time to react to your food intake. "It's really about eating to the point where you're satiated," he says.
The theory here is that the catechins in green tea work in concert with caffeine to burn fat. However, Mike warns, "It's not going to be a magical effect that you see here."
"You can lose weight without necessarily ever feeling hungry and suffering with it," says Mike, who recommends intuitive eating, where you only eat to the point that you feel satiated, but not overly full. "That way, you're not overeating calories, you're not having these tremendous portions, and you don't have to starve yourself."
"This one has been pretty much debunked by modern science," says Mike.

Kelly Osbourne has admitted that part of her recent and dramatic weight loss is due to gastric sleeve surgery she had about two years ago.
Speaking to the Hollywood Raw with Dax Holt and Adam Glyn podcast Thursday, Osbourne said, I had surgery; I dont give a fk what anyone has to say, according to People.
I did it, Im proud of it, they can suck st, she added, which may be a line from Anna Karenina were not sure.
Osbourne, who says shes lost around 85 pounds, was careful to couch the surgery which removes 75-80 percent of the stomach and is the most commonly performed bariatric procedure in the world, per UCLA as part of a holistic approach to weight loss that includes diet and exercise.
The kind of surgery I had if you dont work out and you dont eat right, you gain weight, Osbourne, 35, said. All it does is move you in the right direction. So, anyone whos thinking of doing something like this, really think about that.
She also added that she quit drinking in advance of the surgery, and explained that she had to do a year of stand-alone therapy to prepare myself for the surgery before I even had it.
What people dont realize is, it cuts out this hormone that if you have addiction issues, it stops your craving and it makes you not emotionally eat, which is a huge problem for me.
Osbourne also notes that, understandably, My weight loss made me resentful at Hollywood. So fing resentful. Because when I was fat, I was invisible. They didnt want to work with me, they didnt want to do anything with me.
Now in retrospect, I know exactly who Ill work with and who I wont, she added. Because I know who called me fat, I know who didnt want to work with me. I know exactly who said it. Ive got really thick skin, but I take that, and I put it into my memory bank. I remember what you said about me, and thats the best revenge.
