Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers on TV moment that sparked staggering weight loss – Express

He continued: It was over the oil used in mayonnaise as we walked up and down the aisles. In the early days, we had to do our own food shopping for our shoot. And I think we thought the programme was falling apart really.

Fortunately, the pair were able to quickly settle their differences and have since gone onto to have long-standing cooking careers and friendship.

Speaking about their relationship, Dave explained: We cook together really well. Its great. Its funny, the last book that we did, One Pot Wonders, we kind of started writing the recipes while we were on tour.

"We set ourselves 10 ideas because we had 200 recipes. But it kind of snowballed because I dip into something and then he dips into something.

He added: But we get on really well. Were in business together and its like being in business with your brother. It just works really. Weve spent a lot of time together. Si has got his fianc in Australia and I've got my family, so we do have to go home sometimes."

Prep spring football is up in the air – Tuscaloosa News

Posted: March 22, 2020 at 6:50 am

High school football coaches and players are in a holding pattern.

Teams around the state are left wondering whether spring practice will be allowed to move forward or if the Alabama State Department of Education and the Alabama High School Athletic Association opt to shut it down.

The decision was made last week (March 17) to shut down schools for 2.5 weeks due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, which forced the cancellation of spring sports events during that period.

On April 6, when schools are scheduled to re-open, another decision will be made about whether to shut down classes and sports for the year or proceed with caution. The University of Alabama, Shelton State and Stillman College all canceled their spring sports seasons, and classes are being instructed online.

"We are just waiting until further notice on what school is going to look like, whether thats return on April 6 or be out for the remainder of the school year," first-year Central High football coach Rodney Bivens Jr. said. "Everything is just basically up in the air."

Bivens said the Falcons planned to have spring practice the last week of April and the first week of May. Now hes not sure what will happen or if the Falcons will be able to do anything this spring.

"Once we get notification from the higher ups we will have a better thought process as what specifically well be able to do with the players and what we will not be able to do with the players," Bivens said. "Right now theres no conditioning, no weight training. There is nothing we can do with our student athletes on campus or off campus. We really arent able to do anything with the players at this moment."

Hillcrest coach Sam Adams is in the same boat. He said it doesnt make sense to make a schedule with all the uncertainty. For now, hes just waiting for further instructions.

"Now we dont really know what that schedule is going to look like. Its obviously going to change a little, if its not completely canceled. It just depends on what the state and the AHSAA tells us what we can do," Adams said. "We are kind of building the bridge as we cross it. There really is no point in trying to get all the plans ironed out right now."

Adams and Bivens have been giving their players some workout instructions during the break. Its not the same as the team being together in the weight room or on the field, but its the best they can do.

"We have an app called team builder," Adams said. "That sends out the workouts on a daily basis. That helps us out a little bit. All players have access to that. They get sent a body weight workout every day -- stuff they can do out in the yard, running down the street or wherever they can do it. Hopefully they are still getting some work in. Its not going to be the same as being in the weight room, and we dont have someone there to hold them accountable for that. They do have access to some sort of organized plan."

Adams said the Patriots have hit the weight room hard the last few weeks before the shutdown, but the loss of time could be a hindrance down the road.

"You start extending that to three, four or five weeks, you run the risk of losing a lot of the gains you made over the last several months," Adams said.

There is the loss of spring practice to consider, which Adams is preparing for. Should spring drills be canceled, Adams and the Patriots coaching staff will try to do as much work that is allowed in the summer to prepare for the fall.

"What I am doing is getting everything organized as if we wont have spring practice at all," he said. "That would change our summer routine to get a little bit more on the field time to get in some of the teaching time that we missed. There is no way they would let us practice in the summer in pads. If we dont get to go through spring practice we will miss all the contact, but we would try to make sure we have everything taught the same way we would have had we gone through spring practice. We just wont have as many live reps."

There is still hope for spring practice to continue, depending on what the ASDE and AHSAA decide. But there is also a chance that the fall season could be affected, which folks in Alabama dont want to even consider.

"Football is important but its not the most important thing during times like these," Adams said. "I just hope everyone is doing what they are supposed to to get this thing over with as quickly as possible to where we dont have to lose time in the summer or even in the fall.

"Depending on what you are reading, some folks are giving a pretty bad forecast down the road for this thing. At this point its just a lot of adjusting on the fly for everyone in the country."

Said Bivens, "its a waiting game for everybody. We will just sit by the phone and wait to hear what the next step will be."

On a normal day, thousands in WV rely on food pantries to eat. During a pandemic, that number is growing. – Williamson Daily News

Posted: March 22, 2020 at 6:50 am

On an average day, almost 300,000 West Virginians are food insecure. Now, though, as more lose their jobs and income from coronavirus-related business closures, that number is growing and is expected to increase quickly.

Cyndi Kirkhart, director of Facing Hunger Food Bank, a Huntington-based nonprofit that serves more than 100,000 people annually across 12 counties, said her organization is already feeling the weight of the situation.

To tell you the truth, I started ordering food up 31/2 weeks ago, figuring that this was coming. Historically the number of people weve served when were not in this pandemic have been stable. We know what to plan for, Kirkhart said. This ... the exponential growth were seeing already, it even goes beyond the shutdown. Were not sure how much were going to need, we just know its going to be more.

In the last three weeks, Kirkhart estimates shes spent over $150,000 on food to distribute to community pantries. Thats much more than average, she said.

Normally, the food bank relies heavily on donations from large, chain grocery stores, like Kroger and Walmart. Today, though, those stores are also struggling to meet the demand of shoppers stocking up on food and panic buying in the midst of the pandemic. That leaves little food available for donation, Kirkhart said.

Thats a big loss for us, Kirkhart said. What we cant get donated, we have to buy. And now, with whats going on, were going to have to buy more of it. Probably for a while.

Local pantries, which rely on Facing Hunger and other food banks in the state, like Mountaineer Food Bank, to fill their shelves are also seeing demand grow as products become harder to access.

June Jude, who heads House of Hope food pantry in Mingo County, said shes been fielding calls from those in need for over a week now asking if the organization would be giving food this month.

This is normally the time of year they do intake for new people at the pantry, Jude said, and this month there are going to be a lot of new people.

No question about it, with shop closures and food out at the stores, were going to continue giving because a lot more people a lot are going to need it, Jude said.

House of Hope normally gets its food from Facing Hunger, and rely on donations to buy what they cant get there from the local Food City grocery store.

Usually our cornflakes, spaghetti, tuna, pinto beans, that kind of stuff ... Were hoping [Food City] can continue to serve us, but there isnt much food left, Jude said. We called in our order for this month, they said theyd try to get it in, but theyre already having a hard time getting their shelves filled.

As the need grows, Kirkhart said Facing Hunger is discussing increasing the number of county distributions it does per month.

Were going to need to, she said. I dont see a world where we dont.

Increased distributions, though, could mean a call for more volunteers. Thats an issue all its own in the wake of a pandemic, Kirkhart said.

Statewide, a majority of volunteers at food banks and food pantries tend to be older. Kirkhart said when she joined Facing Hunger in 2014, the average age of their volunteers was 67 years old. Today, its 72.

Per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, individuals with pre-existing respiratory illnesses or weak immune systems, and adults older than 60, are considered high risk for contracting COVID-19 and suffering its worst symptoms. In other words, the people needed to keep food pantries and food banks running during this pandemic are some of the most vulnerable.

Some pantries have understandably closed because of a lack of able volunteers, Kirkhart said.

Not all, though.

At Dille Church of the Nazarenes food pantry, in Clay County, Pastor Patricia Fischer works with five volunteers to distribute food each Friday. Two of those volunteers suffer from asthma, one has diabetes and most are over 65 years old.

Were trying to be cautious, were making it as safe as we can for us and for them, Fischer said. We need to be there, though. Were all we have. These people need food when theres not a virus. This is what were here to do, now more than ever.

Jude, in Williamson, is experiencing something similar. Shes disabled and doesnt physically work the distributions, but several of her volunteers are also older. They arent stopping, either.

They know the need is great, Jude said. They know the ones that we serve are already in desperate need.

In addition to older volunteers, a number of seniors in the state are food insecure and rely on food pantries to eat, according to Feeding America, a national advocacy group focused on food insecurity.

Kirkhart said Facing Hunger is ensuring all its community partners are employing best practices, based on CDC guidelines, to limit risks to both volunteers and those relying on him.

They are encouraging no physical contact and asking pantries to hold distributions outside if possible.

In Dille, Fischer is organizing drive-thru pickups. Visitors are urged to stay in their cars to limit contact.

In Williamson, Jude said all her volunteers are wearing gloves and masks, and also operating as a drive-thru. Volunteers are filling out the paperwork for new visitors, and older individuals are being urged to show up early, before the rest of the crowd.

The less they touch the better it is for all of us. Its not easy, though. When they come here, they love to get into fellowship with one another, talking a bunch, Jude said. Its kind of sad but not now, were asking them to pay attention, get this done quick because weve got a lot more to do.

Kirkhart said its important to remember that more changes could be made at any time as the situation progresses, and theres no way to know what next week will bring.

If people are ordered to remain in their homes, Kirkhart said, shes confident the West Virginia National Guard, or other agencies, will step up to feed those in need.

For now, Kirkhart said, part of the worry is how long food will last, and what food will be available in the future if people continue to buy the way they have been.

Im asking, if someone out there went a little far and bought more than they need, consider donating some to a pantry. They need it, your neighbors need it, Kirkhart said.

While the pandemic is unprecedented, Kirkland said it has given rise to familiar conversations how to feed children outside of the school system, what to do if people cant leave their home, etc.

Kirkhart said she hopes those discussions continue once things return to normal.

Were going to be seeing a lot of people maybe we havent seen before, but that were prepared to help. It comes at a price, which were glad to bear, and we know that when these things happen the issue of hunger rises to the forefront, Kirkhart said. We hope we can keep it in the forefront. During these times we can lay the groundwork to strengthen these hunger relief systems so theyre easier to navigate every day, not just in crisis.

If you would like to volunteer with Facing Hunger Food Bank, call 304-523-6029, visit http://facinghunger.org or stop by their Huntington office from 9 a.m. to noon, or 1 p.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Single mum loses seven stone without going to the gym to prove a point to her ex – Mirror Online

Posted: March 22, 2020 at 6:47 am

A mum lost seven stone after trolls posted cruel jokes about her weight online.

Fiona Hornby weighed 19st 9lbs last March, however, just one year later she is down to 12st 12lbs.

She says one of her biggest motivations was being able to play with her son, who is almost two-years-old.

However, she was also spurred on by her ex-partner and people who mocked a picture of her online, the Manchester Evening News reports.

However, it was the thought of not being able to play with her son that was her biggest concern.

Hes nearly two now, she said.

Hes starting to run around and I was thinking I just wouldnt have the energy to keep up with him if I stayed that size.

While her son was a very important factor in kick starting her incredible weight loss, there were other issues at play as well.

At the time, Fiona only took photographs of her face and tried her best to not take photos that showed her body.

When one photograph taken by someone else was shared online, the comments became very nasty and personal.

Fiona, of Kearsley, near Manchester, remembered: One of them said, you could make her a new dress out of a row of tents and that really stuck with me.

My ex-partner who I was with at the time used to always bring my weight into arguments as well.

When we split, I thought Ill show you!

But to be honest, I just wanted to prove to myself and everyone else that I could do it.

Almost 12 months on from when she started, Fiona weighs 12st 12lbs.

In that time, she says she can count on one hand the amount of time she has exercised and puts the weight loss down to a combination of different diets.

Fiona added: Ive probably exercised about four times since I started. Ive done no proper workouts or been to the gym or anything like that.

When I started, I was on Reddit and found out about intermittent fasting, where you fast for most of the day and get a short eating window so I tried that.

I then found out about a plan called OMAD where you eat one large meal a day so I thought that would be a good thing to combine with the fasting.

Theres so many apps to help keep track though so that really helps.

By the end of this year, Fiona wants to weigh 9st 9lbs - a loss of exactly 10st from when she started.

Despite losing such a large amount of weight in the last year, she admits it hasnt always come without its difficulties.

At the start it was just dropping off so fast, she said. Its really slowed down recently and Ill hit a plateau for a few weeks but Ive just kept going. I think I will need to incorporate more exercise now though.

It is quite difficult to fast and if Ive been on a night out I do cave sometimes and order hangover food, before getting straight back on track the next day.

Ive also got quite a bit of loose skin on my arms, stomach and thighs. I thought itd really bother me but it just reminds me of what Ive achieved and to never let myself get back to where I was. Its not like Im trying to be a model or anything anyway!

As my bodys got smaller its taken a really big toll on my back as my breasts have stayed the same size.

Its really weird seeing your body change though, the rings on my fingers are all loose now and my shoe size has gone down.

If You Had Bought OCI (AMS:OCI) Stock Five Years Ago, Youd Be Sitting On A 64% Loss, Today – Simply Wall St

Posted: March 22, 2020 at 6:47 am

OCI N.V. (AMS:OCI) shareholders should be happy to see the share price up 16% in the last week. But that is little comfort to those holding over the last half decade, sitting on a big loss. Indeed, the share price is down 64% in the period. So were hesitant to put much weight behind the short term increase. Wed err towards caution given the long term under-performance.

See our latest analysis for OCI

Given that OCI didnt make a profit in the last twelve months, well focus on revenue growth to form a quick view of its business development. When a company doesnt make profits, wed generally expect to see good revenue growth. As you can imagine, fast revenue growth, when maintained, often leads to fast profit growth.

Over five years, OCI grew its revenue at 7.3% per year. Thats a pretty good rate for a long time period. The share price, meanwhile, has fallen 19% compounded, over five years. That suggests the market is disappointed with the current growth rate. That could lead to an opportunity if the company is going to become profitable sooner rather than later.

You can see below how earnings and revenue have changed over time (discover the exact values by clicking on the image).

Its good to see that there was some significant insider buying in the last three months. Thats a positive. On the other hand, we think the revenue and earnings trends are much more meaningful measures of the business. If you are thinking of buying or selling OCI stock, you should check out this free report showing analyst profit forecasts.

While the broader market lost about 24% in the twelve months, OCI shareholders did even worse, losing 57%. However, it could simply be that the share price has been impacted by broader market jitters. It might be worth keeping an eye on the fundamentals, in case theres a good opportunity. Unfortunately, last years performance may indicate unresolved challenges, given that it was worse than the annualised loss of 19% over the last half decade. We realise that Baron Rothschild has said investors should buy when there is blood on the streets, but we caution that investors should first be sure they are buying a high quality business. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too. Consider for instance, the ever-present spectre of investment risk. Weve identified 1 warning sign with OCI , and understanding them should be part of your investment process.

OCI is not the only stock insiders are buying. So take a peek at this free list of growing companies with insider buying.

Weight loss: Woman sheds 5 stone in 5 months & reversed type 2 diabetes with simple diet – Express

Posted: March 21, 2020 at 1:46 pm

A weight-loss journey can be motivated by many things, but after struggling with her weight for most of her life and being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, one woman lost an incredible five stone four pounds by overhauling her lifestyle and following a simple diet plan.

60-year-old Carolyn Jarrett is no longer struggling with her weight after losing over five stone in five months using a simple diet plan, but best of all, after embarking on her weight loss journey she managed to reverse her type 2 diabetes.

A life-changing accomplishment which she swears she could not have achieved if it wasn't for the Lighter Life diet plan.

So, how did she drop from, at her heaviest, 26 stone to a much healthier 12 stone, nine pounds?

Carolyn shared her weight loss journey with Express.co.uk.

She said: "In 2004 I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, I always knew my weight was the biggest contributing factor but when youve struggled since childhood its extremely difficult to find the right solution. I was 26 stone at my heaviest.

"I persisted with low carb diets for a while, with some degree of success, but the high fats and large portions didn't help with either the weight loss or glucose control," she revealed.

But then in April 2019, when Carolyn was urged to change the dosage of her Diabetes medication and take on a more drastic approach to tackle her condition, she said enough was enough and decided to take her health into her own hands.

She said: "I was fed up of being labelled obese and type 2 diabetic, it was time to take responsibility for my own health.

"Id been reading up on some recent diabetes trials with really positive results and I too wanted to see if a Total Diet Replacement plan could do the same for me.

"Plus, in January I saw a man called Mike on ITVs This Time Next Year reverse his type 2 diabetes using LighterLife. If he could do it, why couldnt I?"

After being inspired by the ITV special, she embarked on the LighterLife Total Diet Plan to lose weight and also reverse her diabetes just like Mike.

LighterLife is campaigning to help people live healthier and more fulfilled lives by boosting confidence, self-esteem and belief.

The LighterLife weight loss plans combine a very low-calorie diet (VLCD) with weekly counselling.

With LighterLife dieter get access to meal-replacement food packs - consisting of shakes, soups, mousses or bars - and no conventional food.

"I didnt have to prepare or plan out my meals which was great," she revealed.

She continued: "I really liked LighterLifes total diet replacement meals Foodpacks theyre delicious, especially the meal bars.

"I was so surprised how straightforward it was to follow, too; all I had to do was choose four products for the day and I knew I was getting all the nutrition my body needed without the extra calories.

"The fast weight loss kept me motivated. Improving my health was my goal and the weight loss was just a bonus, but its amazing how good you can feel when youre shedding the excess weight."

After being on the plan for only a few months Carolyn was able to see great results, once she went back to the doctors for one of her regular check-ups she found that her blood sugar levels were in the normal range, meaning she had fully reversed her type 2 diabetes.

She said: "For the first time in 15 years my blood sugar levels were in the normal range, I had reversed my type 2 diabetes! I cried when I got this life-changing news Id done what I set out to do. I changed my life for the better"

She continued: "LighterLife has completely changed my world, I was on the verge of being on insulin for the rest of my life, at risk of a multitude of health complications, but here I am today diabetes free and feeling on top of the world.

"Ive gone from a dress size 26 to a size 14, the LighterLife programme and support from my mentor has allowed me to achieve life-changing result.

Food: Seven reasons you’re not losing weight – HeraldScotland

Posted: March 21, 2020 at 1:41 pm

From mindless eating to not getting enough rest, Lauren Taylor speaks to experts about the common mistakes.

If you've been trying to shift some weight and have been doing all the right things - changing up your diet, getting more exercise in - it can be frustrating if you feel as if you've plateaued, or even put a bit back on.

Here are some common mistakes dieters make, according to experts.

1. You're eating 'diet' foods instead of whole foods

"'Detox' products won't work for weight loss," says dietitian Sophie Medlin. "Remember, if there was a drink or a supplement you could take that worked safely and effectively for weight loss, we wouldn't have an obesity epidemic."

She says to beware of brands and celebrities selling any 'miracle' weight-loss products.

On the subject of diet influencers, Medlin says the 'eat like me to look like me' ideology is deeply flawed. "We all have different genetics and lifestyles - we can't all look the same.

"Dietitians haven't been saying anything new for a very long time, because nutrition is about balance. It's not about cutting things out, it's not about making people feel guilty for eating normal food.

"I tend to tell people to base their diet around fruit and vegetables, lean protein, have some nuts and seeds and things like pulses."

2. You aren't eating mindfully

While you might have upped your exercise and switched to a healthier diet, how we eat is sometimes just as important as what we eat - especially if you're looking to shed a few pounds.

In our busy society, it's become the norm to eat meals in front of the TV, while simultaneously scrolling through our phones or replying to emails.

Georgie Murphy, a nutritionist at personalised vitamin service, Vitl (vitl.com) explains: "If while eating, our mind is distracted by deadlines and headlines, a cascade of physiological stress responses will put us in 'fight or flight' mode. Research suggests over time, this can negatively influence our appetite and eating behaviours towards obesogenic habits, such as comfort eating and bingeing."

Meanwhile, mindfulness - she says - has been shown to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system (PSNS), critical for the state of 'rest and digest', "increasing communication between the brain and our gut, to support the physiological processes necessary for optimal digestion".

3. You're overestimating the impact of working out

Although exercise can help you lose weight - and it's vital for overall health - personal trainer from The Training Room, Mark Fox, says many people believe it's the only way to lose weight.

"They think if they exercise constantly and burn more calories, they'll eventually achieve their ideal weight. Unfortunately, what people don't realise is that the more they exercise, the more their appetite will increase, to compensate for the increased energy required. As the saying goes, 'You can't out-exercise a poor diet'."

Exercise, he says, will certainly help you lose weight, "but you still have to work on your calorie intake, improving the quality of foods and reducing alcohol".

4. You're forgetting about moving - outside of the gym

Sure, you might be spending half an hour or even an hour exercising every day, but if you're sitting for the other 15, you won't be giving yourself the best chance of weight loss.

"A better approach is to slightly increase your energy expenditure through a mixture of exercise and NEAT (none-exercise activity thermogenesis)," says Fox, "which is the energy expended from daily, non-sports-like activities, such as walking instead of driving to work, or cleaning the house.

"This way, your body is less likely to significantly increase your appetite and hunger, helping you stick to your nutrition plan."

5. You're only doing cardio

Cardio - like running, cycling and hiking - is amazing; it burns calories, it improves your heart health, it's important for aerobic fitness and it makes you feel great. But if you're only doing cardio to lose weight, you could be missing a trick, says Fox.

"Resistance (strength) training tends to burn fewer calories as you perform it, so many people ignore its ability to assist in weight loss. What they don't realise, is that if you build more muscle, your body requires more calories to maintain that muscle. This results in a higher calorie burn each day, even at complete rest." In other words, with a bit more muscle, you'll be burning more calories even when lazing on the sofa.

"A combination of the two [cardio and resistance] provides better results," he says.

6. You're binge-eating healthy food

Switching to a more nutritious diet, packed with fresh fruit, veg, nuts, beans, pulses and lean protein, is a hugely positive step towards better health, but just make sure all your hard work isn't being undone by unwittingly consuming more calories than you mean to.

"If the goal is weight loss, moderation is important," says Murphy. "For example, being mindful of portion size of healthy foods such as nuts and avocados, can go a long way in supporting your weight-loss regime."

7. You aren't sleeping enough

Experts believe there is some link between overeating when you've under slept. "Sleep regulates two hormones called ghrelin and leptin that are essential in appetite control. Sleep deprivation has been shown to decrease leptin and increase ghrelin, leading to an increase in overall hunger. Therefore, a better night's sleep may support you to eat wisely and avoid mindless grazing," Murphy says.

Plus, if you're increasing your exercise, your muscles need to properly rest and repair overnight. Getting a solid eight hours might be the simplest weight loss advice out there.

Always speak to your GP before undergoing any new weight-loss programme.

The 19 Most Inspiring Weight Loss Success Stories of 2019 …

Posted: March 20, 2020 at 4:51 pm

People want to lose weight for a whole slew of different reasons. Some want to feel better about the way they look and give their self-esteem a boost, while others aim to stop using food as a coping mechanism for emotional struggles. No matter what reasons you have for wanting to shed some pounds or where you are in your journey, these inspiring weight loss success stories prove that it's never too late to turn things around and get a new lease on life. The following people you'll read more about here have battledand overcomedifficult challenges, such as depression, anxiety, and feelings of self-worthlessness to achieve their weight loss goals. And you know what that means? You can do it, too!

Kevin Gendreau, MD, 31, wrestled with a food addiction for more than a decade, and was 306 pounds at his heaviest.

"I was diagnosed with high blood pressure, hypertension, high cholesterol, fatty liver disease, and sleep apnea, among other things," Gendreau told Best Life in October. "I knew they were all because of my eating habits, but I just couldn't stop."

But when his sister was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2016, it became a wake-up call for him to make his physical health a priority."What she was going through wasn't her choice," he said. "What I was doing to myself was."

By cutting out all the junk food and replacing it with a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, nuts, and protein, Gendreau lost 125 pounds in 18 months.

"The best advice that I can give is to find a motivation to change," he said. "For me, it was my sister getting sick and needing to be there for her kids, but it could be anything. Once you find that reason and commit to it, you're good to go."

Think it's too late to change your body once you're over 50? Think again. In October, 73-year-old Joan MacDonald became an internet inspiration after showing off her incredible transformation.

"For many decades, I was more often overweight than at a healthy weight," MacDonald told The Daily Mail. "I was on medication for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and acid reflux. My arthritis was acting up pretty bad."

Concerned about her health, MacDonald's daughter taught her mom how to use her iPhone to track her meals and exercise activity. That tool helped drive her to eat more protein and healthy fats, and go to the gym four or five days a week. And after making those major changes to her lifestyle, MacDonald lost 55 pounds in a year, gained plenty of muscle, and now helps others reach their fitness goals, no matter how old they are.

"For those who truly feel at a loss, I'd say change one thing with your food intake, one exercise to do, and each week add something new," she said. "Don't expect miracles right away, take it slow and steady but keep building."

Amber Neale spent most of her young-adult life in a pattern of losing weight on various diets, and then gaining it all back. In January 2017, she hit 325 poundsher second heaviest weightand decided to seek treatment from a mental health professional to address her unhealthy eating habits.

"I realized I needed help when I found myself living the same dismal day over and over againand food was my only oasis," Neale told Women's Healthin April 2019. "It took therapy to make me realize how awful my eating habits had become: I ate from the moment I woke up to the moment I went to bed."

Once she dealt with her anxiety, depression, and binge-eating disorder, Neale was able to cut out fast food, reduce her portion sizes, and start exercising daily for 45 minutes. She lost 190 pounds in two years, and today, she says she takes things "one meal, or one moment, at a time."

When Joey Morganelli was 16 years old, he watched his father die of a heart attack right in front of him, only three years after losing his mother to cancer. Looking for a way to cope with such tragedy and loss, he turned to food. By the time he graduated high school, he weighed 400 pounds.

Luckily, Morganelli had people around him who cared about his wellbeing and were concerned by what they saw. In his freshman year of college, his microbiology professor pulled him aside to express concerns about his health, and asked him to watch the 2011 documentary Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. The film had a major effect on Morganelli and slowly but surely, he replaced fast food with healthy, home-cooked meals. Eventually, he became more committed, going on a vegan diet, and by mid-2018, he had lost 150 pounds.

In January 2019, he wrote on Instagram that even though losing weight is hard, what's harder is facing yourself and dealing with the issues that drove you to overeat to begin with. "Give yourself a fair fight and take that blindfold off," he wrote. "It will propel you into places you never thought you could be."

We all know alcohol contains plenty of calories, has little nutritional value, and can impede weight-loss and other lifestyle goals we set for ourselves. But a viral post by Instagram influencer Jelly Devote really showed just how much curbing heavy alcohol consumption in favor of drinking more water can help you lose weight.

The photo on the left shows her at 21, during her college partying days, when she was drinking beer and cider with abandon. Now 27, Devote exercises, drinks in moderation, and feels like she's aging in reverse as a result.

"I'm a new person and I feel better both on the inside and about my outside," she wrote on Instagram in February.

When Mary Jane O'Toole got engaged to her longtime boyfriend in 2016, she couldn't have been more excited about it. Weighing 281 pounds, however, made picking out a wedding dress somewhat of a disheartening process.

"I didn't want to buy a plus-size wedding dress, because they cost way more than straight sizes," O'Toole told Peoplein April. "I felt like I was paying this fat taxI didn't have the ability to buy affordable clothes because I was bigger."

When she and her husband-to-be saw photos of themselves from a trip to Disney World, they made the decision to lose weight together and began tracking their calories and meals with the the app LoseIt!

O'Toole lost 75 pounds in the first year, and another 25 once the couple began incorporating exercise into their routine. By the time the wedding rolled around earlier this year, she had lost a total of 135 pounds and was able to walk down the aisle in the dress of her dreams.

Hunter Croteau had to go to the doctor to find out he was 367 pounds, because the scale at his home was no longer capable of weighing him. Once he graduated high school and with the help of his family, Croteau threw himself into a healthy diet. But two weeks in, he fell off the wagon.

"I knew lying in bed that night that I was not going to go back on the diet the next morning, and I needed to make a drastic step," Croteau told Yahoo! Lifestyle in July. His doctor suggested getting sleeve gastrectomy, which typically removes 80 percent of the stomach and therefore limits the amount of food a person can consume.

Croteau decided to have the surgery, even though he was "extremely nervous" going into the operation. "You're going into this building specifically because you're fat," he said. "It's almost like you're coming to terms with it in front of the world. You're saying, 'I need help. I can't do this on my own.'"

About a month after the surgery, Croteau began going to the gym, and he became increasingly interested in the science of fitness. Thanks to his workout routine and portion control, he lost 175 pounds in eight months and is now studying to become a certified personal trainer.

While he believes that the surgery was "totally worth it," Croteau also credits his love of exercise with helping him keep the weight off and stay in shape. "You need to fall into a habit of something you can maintain, something you enjoy," he said.

By the time she was 28, Stacy Blair was already beginning to have health problems due to her weight.

"I was taking medication for high blood pressure, myasthma was getting worse, and it was physically painful to walk or stand for more than five minutes," Blair told Women's Health in October.

For the first time in her life, she was motivated to lose weight not for the sake of looking good, but for personal wellness and improving her healthan approach that changed everything.

"I wanted to be able to play an active role in my little brothers' lives rather than watching from the couch," she said. "I wanted to be able to be a mom one day. I wanted to be able to move without being in pain. I wanted to live instead of just exist."

Blair got started by counting calories and keeping a daily log of her meals, which led to her going on a keto diet that helped her lose 220 pounds in 17 months.

"At the end of the day when everything is all said and done, it's not about the weight you lose, it's about the life you gain," she said.

Stacey Welton, 50, knew she'd never be a gym aficionadonot with six kids and a full-time job as a teacher, at least. But once her weight began to give her health problems, she knew something had to give.

"I saw a picture of myself and wasn't happy," Welton told Best Life in July. "I knew that, as I was getting older, that the weight would continue to increase if I did nothing, so I made up my mind to change my life once and for all."

She went on the Atkins diet, which had her eating fewer carbsand in just eight months, she shed 80 pounds.

"I learned to eat to live, not live to eat," Welton said. "I would say that weight loss is one of the very few areas where it's OK to be selfish. It is about you. Whatever it costs, it's worth the personal investment in you. This is the sacrifice that a mom has to makenot only for herself, but her family."

As a kid, Jared Sklar loved to play sports. But when the 27-year-old fell in love with his girlfriend, Samatha MacDonald, he gained some relationship weight. All those late nights spent snacking on the couch with his parter left him at 285 pounds, and when he opened up his refrigerator one day and saw pizza boxes from four different restaurants, he decided something had to change.

"It's pretty embarrassing, but it's the truth," Sklar told CNN in August. "I just opened the door, and I was just like, 'What are we doing here?'"

Sklar and MacDonald decided to give intermittent fasting a try, eating all of their meals between noon and 8 p.m. They immediately noticed that their energy levels increased, and with even more of a drive to be active, the couple used the buddy system to go to the gym six days a week for 45 minutes of indoor cycling.

"We pushed each in our weak areas," MacDonald said. "We were on different pages initially but pushed each other to be on the same page, and that was a huge help."

MacDonald lost 12 pounds, and said that the mental health benefits of going to the gym are the real win for her. Meanwhile, Sklar lost 95 pounds in about seven months, and is now a fitness instructor teaching indoor cycling classes.

"It was hugely beneficial to have a support system with me," he said. "There are always going to be those days where you want to cheat and have a pizza, and just having a support system to keep you in check and being responsible for keeping somebody else in check was really important to me."

At nearly 200 pounds, Jennifer Riviera no longer had the energy to play with her 13-year-old sonand her weight was also taking a toll on her marriage.

"My husband and I weren't getting along because frankly, I made it really hard to love me because I stopped loving myself," Riviera told People in August. "Everybody became more important than I did and fast food became my way of life."

Then, two years ago, she saw a friend post about her weight loss journey and found it inspiring. Her friend recommended Isagenixa dietary supplement brand that makes meal replacement shakes. Now 115 pounds, Riviera is a full-time health and wellness coach who loves yoga. She says she continues to drink at least one Isagenix shake per day and, most importantly, she now has the energy to play with her son.

At 6'7" and 400 pounds, DeAndr Upshaw was a big presence in any room he walked into. And while he loved the spotlight and didn't necessarily hate the way he looked, the 30-year-old knew that his weight could pose certain health risks as time went on. So, rather than going on some of the fad diets that he had experimented with in the past, Upshaw began doing more math and started meticulously counting calories. "The coolest thing about calories in, calories out is that it was math," he told Men's Healthin January.

He also avoided escalators and elevators, and used a Fitbit to ensure that he took at least 10,000 steps a day. As a result, Upshaw lost 150 pounds in just one year, and now, he hopes to inspire others to put in the hard but rewarding work it takes to make a weight loss transformation. "I didn't lose 150 pounds once," he said. "I lost one pound 150 times."

Growing up, Vanessa Flores was always overweight. She tried several fad diets to slim down, but nothing stucka vegan diet helped her lose 60 pounds but proved difficult to maintain. But when she switched to a low-carb diet, which allowed her to have more carbs on days when she worked out, it was a whole different story. Since making that lifestyle change in 2013, Flores has lost 135 pounds, and she's still going.

"I think I started my weight loss journey for the wrong reasons," she told Women's Health in January. "Deep down, I just wanted a boyfriend and wanted to be prettier. But since then, I've realized my weight loss means so much more than that. I've not only gained more confidence, but I feel healthier than ever. Now, I feel like I can do anythingin a relationship or not."

By the time Sophie Trewick, 23, was in college, she weighed 331 pounds. But a 2017 trip to an amusement park was the last straw for the co-ed. "The staff at the theme park gave us all fast track passes so I didn't have to queue to see if I'd fit on each rollercoaster," Trewick told The Daily Mail in April. "One of my friends actually said to me 'I am glad you are fat as we get to jump straight to the front.' I went home that day distraught, and knew I had to change."

She cut out the junk food, began exercising three times a week, and joined the UK weight-loss organization Slimming World. According to a recent Instagram post, she's lost 101 pounds since 2017.

When she was eight years old, Desiree Alexis-Kae Mize was diagnosed with hypothyroidisma condition that affects approximately three million Americans and causes a variety of symptoms, including a slow metabolism. Remaining active often helped her lose weight, but eventually she'd gain it all back. By 21, Mize weighed 260 pounds, and her doctor suggested gastric bypass surgery, which would reduce the size of her stomach, making it easier to practice portion control.

At first, Mize felt like getting surgery would be the easy way out, but she decided to go through with it after hearing the inspiring success stories of women whose lives were changed by the procedure.

"I also learned that the surgery would help me with portion control, but my weight-loss would still require the discipline that I'd been working on my entire life," she told Women's Health in April. "The only difference was this time, I'd actually see results."

A year after the surgery, Mize has lost 150 pounds and continues to exercise and maintain a healthy diet. While the surgery got the ball rolling, it's been her responsibility to keep it moving forward, and she's proud to be doing the work.

"I feel like I'm finally happy and confident with myself and my body," she said. "I know gastric bypass surgery isn't the best choice for everyone, but it was the right choice for me, and it definitely wasn't the 'easy way out.' It not only helped me see results I never thought were possible because of my health conditionbut it has also helped me stay healthier by keeping my weight in check."

Many of us wake up on New Year's Day with the resolution to lose weight and get fit. But Quantel Thomas actually did it. Overweight since childhood and 300 pounds by the time he was 18, Thomas kicked off 2017 by starting a routine that found him at the gym six days a week, helping him to lose 180 pounds in 10 months.

Now weighing 204 pounds, he continues his bodybuilding and fitness regimen, and can bench press 285 pounds and deadlift up to 475 pounds. "To be able to love myself, that's the true, ultimate milestone achieved to this day," Thomas told Men's Health in November.

Randi Vasquez always struggled with her weight, but it never really bothered her until she got out of her "post-grad slump" in 2014 and realized her boozy brunches and weekend binges had brought her up to 240 pounds.

"I stared at myself in the mirror with tears in my eyes and asked myself, 'How did I let myself get like this?" Vasquez told Women's Health in March. "I always tried to blame it on my genes, but really, I was obsessed with fast food and I wasn't working out."

She kept trying to adopt healthier eating habits, and while she did lose some weight, it wasn't nearly as much as she wanted. Then her friend recommended Kayla Itsines' Bikini Body Guide program. From the first 28-minute workout, she was hooked.

"It was never easy, but I saw my body and mindset change so much and that kept me going," she said. "For the first time ever, I totally believed in myself and knew that I was capable of my weight loss goals." Her fitness regime inspired her to eat healthy, too. She does the Whole 30 diet when she falls off track and needs to get back to good patterns. All in all, Vasquez has lost 80 pounds, and gained more than 70,000 Instagram followers in the process.

"I've gotten out of my comfort zone and experienced a whole life that I never thought I'd be a part of," she recently wrote on Instagram. "While my belly may be a little fluffier today, I'm happy from where I started and eager to see where I'll end up."

In 2017, Jeremiah Peterson, 40, went on a hiking trip with his family and quickly found that he couldn't keep up with his young children.

"I had a kind of 'aha' moment," Peterson told The New Haven Register in April. "I reflected on what my life had been. I thought about what my life was at that very moment, and saw what I wanted my life to be."

At the time, his days were consumed by the antiques store he had opened with his wife, and his evenings were spent sitting around drinking beer. Weighing 290 pounds at the time, he decided to make some changes by going on the keto diet, cutting out all alcohol, and hiking in the great outdoors. Once he was in better shape, he began lifting weights again, and his body transformation has garnered him more than 113,000 Instagram followers. He certainly looks like he could run after his kids without losing his breath now.

"The road to your dreams isn't always going to be easy to accomplish," Peterson recently wrote on Instagram. "Just remember this if you get lost along the way: that anything worth having doesn't come easy. You have to be willing to dig down deep and do the work and most importantly never give up."

Back in May 2017, Jessica Simpson had an awkward interview on Ellen, in which she quashed pregnancy rumors related to her weight gain. The proud mother of three has frequently been the subject of vicious tabloid headlines mocking her post-kids physique. So in September, she rocked the internet when she revealed that she had "tipped the scales at 240" and was "100 pounds down" just six months after giving birth to her third child.

"[I'm] so proud to feel like myself again," Simpson wrote on Instagram. "Even when it felt impossible, I chose to work harder."

Coffee with Lemon: Are There Any Benefits? – Healthline

Posted: March 20, 2020 at 4:51 pm

A recent new trend focusses on the potential health benefits of drinking coffee with lemon.

Proponents claim that the mix helps melt off fat and relieves headaches and diarrhea.

Since coffee and lemon each have multiple proven health effects, you may wonder whether drinking the two together offers any additional benefits.

This article reviews the evidence on coffee with lemon to either validate or debunk the claims.

Coffee and lemons are two common ingredients found in almost every kitchen.

Coffee one of the most consumed beverages worldwide is made by brewing roasted coffee beans (1).

In fact, about 75% of Americans report drinking it daily, and its sought after mainly due to its caffeine content, which stimulates the central nervous system and increases alertness and mood (1, 2, 3).

On the other hand, lemons are a fruit that belongs to the genus Citrus. Theyre the third most produced citrus fruit in the world, after oranges and mandarins (4).

Theyre a great source of vitamin C and antioxidants along with many other beneficial plant compounds which is why they have been used for centuries for their medicinal properties (4).

The coffee with lemon trend suggests mixing 1 cup (240 mL) of coffee with the juice of 1 lemon.

While some may think that its an unusual combination, others believe that the benefits outweigh the odd flavor although science may disagree.

Coffee and lemon are two common ingredients with beneficial effects on your health. While some believe that mixing the two offers impressive benefits, science may disagree.

Both coffee and lemons have many proven health benefits, which are predominantly associated with their high content of antioxidants. These are molecules that protect your body from the harmful effects of excessive amounts of free radicals (5).

Heres an overview of the benefits that each has to offer.

Roasted coffee beans contain over 1,000 bioactive compounds, but caffeine and chlorogenic acid (CGA) stand out as key active compounds with antioxidant capacity (6).

The two have been shown to activate pathways that protect against cancer growth, linking coffee to a reduced risk of several types of cancer, including liver, prostate, endometrial, breast, gastrointestinal, and colorectal cancer (6, 7, 8, 9).

Additionally, coffee has been associated with a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes, heart and liver disease, and depression, as well as Alzheimers and Parkinsons disease (1, 6, 7, 10).

Lastly, its caffeine content is responsible for the drinks energy-boosting effect, positive influence on endurance exercise performance, and ability to increase the number of calories you burn, resulting in weight loss (3, 11, 12, 13).

Lemons are a great source of vitamin C and flavonoids, both of which act as powerful antioxidants (14).

Both vitamin C and citrus flavonoids have been linked to a lower risk of specific cancers namely esophagus, stomach, pancreas, and breast cancer (15, 16, 17, 18, 19).

Also, both compounds offer protection against heart disease, while vitamin C protects your immune system and helps fight infections (15, 19, 20, 21).

As you can see, coffee and lemons offer a wide range of benefits that protect your body from chronic ailments. Still, mixing the two doesnt necessarily translate to a more potent drink.

Coffee and lemons contain plant beneficial compounds with cancer-fighting properties. They may also protect you against chronic conditions, such as heart disease and diabetes.

There are four main claims about the benefits of drinking coffee with lemon.

This is what science has to say about them.

This notion is prevalent among various trends that involve the use of lemon, but ultimately, neither lemon nor coffee can melt off fat.

The only way to get rid of unwanted fat is either by consuming fewer calories or burning more of them. Thus, this claim is false.

However, studies show that coffee may help you lose some weight, which is why some people may experience a slight weight reduction upon consuming the drink.

Recent research has found that caffeine may stimulate brown adipose tissue (BAT), a type of metabolically active fatty tissue that decreases with age and can metabolize carbs and fats (12).

One test-tube and human study determined that caffeine from a standard 8-ounce (240-mL) cup of coffee can boost BAT activity, causing an increase in metabolic rate that leads to weight loss (12).

Similarly, older studies from the 1980s and 1990s explain that caffeine may increase your metabolic rate during the 3 hours after ingesting it, upping your burned calories up to 811% meaning that you may burn an extra 79150 calories a day (22, 23, 24).

That said, the potential weight loss effect may be due to the caffeine in coffee, not the mixture of coffee with lemon.

Headaches and migraines have been ranked worldwide as major contributors to disability in those under 50 years old (25).

Hence, its common to find multiple home remedies for their treatment. Still, research is very divided when it comes to the use of coffee for this purpose.

One hypothesis suggests that the caffeine in coffee has a vasoconstrictor effect meaning that it tightens your blood vessels which reduces blood flow toward your head and relieves the pain (26).

Research also suggests that caffeine can amplify the effects of medication used for headaches and migraines (26, 27, 28).

Yet, another hypothesis believes that caffeine may act as a headache trigger for some, along with other beverages and foods, such as chocolate, alcohol, and citrus fruits like lemons (25).

Therefore, drinking coffee with lemon may either relieve or worsen a headache. And if it does help reduce pain, it would be again due to the caffeine in coffee, not the coffee and lemon drink itself.

This remedy calls for eating ground coffee with lemon instead of drinking it.

Still, theres currently no evidence to support the use of lemon to treat diarrhea, and coffee stimulates your colon, which increases your need to poop (29).

Additionally, diarrhea causes a significant loss of fluids that can lead to dehydration, which coffees diuretic effect may worsen (30, 31).

Research suggests that both coffee and lemons antioxidant content may provide skin benefits, so there seems to be a shred of truth behind this claim.

On one hand, coffees CGA content is believed to improve blood flow and hydration in the skin.

Studies show that its consumption may reduce skin scaliness, improve smoothness, and reduce the deterioration of the skin barrier (32, 33, 34).

On the other hand, lemons vitamin C content may stimulate the production of collagen a protein that provides your skin with strength and elasticity and reduce skin damage caused by free radicals that originate from sun exposure (15, 35, 36).

However, you may still take advantage of these benefits by consuming coffee and lemons separately, as no evidence suggests that the effect is only exerted when the two are mixed.

Coffee seems to be responsible for most of the purported benefits of drinking coffee with lemon, though lemons also play an important role in the skin care claims. Yet, no evidence suggests that they should be consumed together for greater benefits.

As is the case with their benefits, the downsides of drinking coffee with lemon are due to the drawbacks of each ingredient.

For instance, evidence suggests that heavy coffee drinkers may become addicted to caffeine, which is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a clinical disorder (37).

Further studies also indicate that regular caffeine intake is linked to sleep disturbances and associated daytime sleepiness, as well as an increased risk of pregnancy loss (7, 38).

As for lemons, while generally uncommon, some people may be allergic to citrus fruits juice, seeds, or peels (39).

While coffee and lemon are two highly consumed ingredients, coffee may impair sleep, cause caffeine addiction, and increase the risk of pregnancy loss. Meanwhile, lemons may cause allergies in rare cases.

Coffee and lemons offer a wide range of health benefits, mostly due to their antioxidant contents.

However, theres no evidence to support the claim that drinking coffee with lemon relieves diarrhea or causes fat to melt away.

As for the rest of the mixtures proclaimed benefits, they can be obtained by consuming coffee or lemon juice separately. Thus, theres no need to mix the two if you dont feel like it.

‘My 600-lb Life’: After suffering a heart attack, Coliesa’s weight-loss surgery hangs by a thin thread – MEAWW

Posted: March 20, 2020 at 4:51 pm

Coliesa McMillian's weight has been a problem for her since a very young age and her mental health did not make it easy for her to take control over what she ate. She revealed that it all started with an alcoholic father who did not care enough for her. This was followed by an abusive husband, whom she managed to escape only after he was arrested.

To make things worse, when Coliesa thought that she had finally found a person who would love and care for her, she lost him in a car accident. With a series of events piled up one after the other that drains Coliesa out, it was no surprise that she turned to food for comfort. However, she knew that she could not continue living like this.

She made it clear that she wanted to lose weight and work hard on herself for the sake of her daughters. A mother of four, Coliesa knew that she had a lot of responsibilities up her sleeves but she was unable to take these because of her weight. After careful consideration, Coliesa finally decided to meet Dr Younan Nowzaradan.

Even though she found it hard to make it to Houston, she finally made it. When Coliesa first weighed herself, she was at 643 lbs. She was shocked and upset to look at her weight but she was happy as she realized that it could have been worse. She then met Dr Nowzaradan who questioned her about her food habits.

He then found out that Coliesa had a previous heart condition that dimmed the chances of her getting a surgery. He wanted to know what health problems she had in order to ensure that after she lost the weight, she would be able to undergo the surgery as well.

However, he wanted to first see if Coliesa was fully committed to losing the weight. He advised her to lose 50 lbs in a month and then come back for another consultation. He also gave her a diet chart and a series of exercises to do. For the first month, Coliesa worked hard to control her eating urges. She stated that she had reduced her food intake to three meals a day.

Meanwhile, she also started working out. However, she revealed that she was still having difficulties walking and refrained from continuing it. Finally, the day had come when she had to meet Dr Nowzaradan again. This time, she weighed 616lbs and had lost 27lbs. Coliesa was disappointed as she thought she would have lost more than that.

She told Dr Nowzaradan that she had been working hard and following the diet chart that he had given. However, Dr Nowzaradan did not agree. He told her that she would have lost more weight had she had been following the diet properly. Coliesa broke down crying as she felt that all her efforts were being futile.

Dr Nowzaradan asked her to work harder and not give up. Speaking to the camera, he stated that Coliesa was trying to manipulate herself and him by crying and it was important for her to work on herself. After her meeting with Dr Nowzaradan, Coliesa moved to Houston as she was focused on losing more weight.

Despite this, she was second-guessing her actions as she was worried that she was leaving everything behind and making a big move. Luckily, her youngest daughter motivated her to take the step and work on herself. Once Coliesa moved to Houston, she tried working hard in the same way. For her third consultation, she was advised to lose 50 lbs more.

However, this time, she weighed 591lbs and had lost 25lbs. Coliesa felt disappointed. Dr Nowzaradan suggested that she should meet a therapist and talk about what she had been feeling. Coliesa agreed and though the therapy made her better, her struggle was not over. A couple of days after the surgery, Coliesa started experiencing sharp abdominal pains.

She decided to go meet Dr Nowzaradan and revealed that she hadn't used the restroom for a couple of days. Dr Nowzaradan knew that he had to be treated immediately and admitted her in the hospital, which automatically brought her weight-loss journey to a halt.

After looking at her reports, Dr Nowzaradan realized that she might need surgery because she had a blockage but it was difficult for her to undergo surgery because of her health issues. He was concerned that her life could be put in danger if he did go ahead with the surgery. He further revealed that her weight loss was not like he had expected.

He advised Coliesa to watch her diet and try to stick to the chart. She said she was trying her best and hadn't had a lot of food like she usually does. However, Dr Nowzaradan warned her that her life would be in danger if she continued to eat like the way she did. He also gave her medications to help with her heart problems.

Coliesa agreed, but felt like Dr Nowzaradan was not seeing the efforts she was putting in. Despite this, she had hope that her life could be better once she lost weight. This motivated her to push herself again. Luckily for her, after a couple of days, Coliesa got the news that she was approved for the weight-loss surgery because her heart was strong enough.

She felt emotional and scared but knew that she was ready. Fortunately, the surgery was successful and Coliesa was advised to stay on a liquid diet for some time. A month after her weight-loss surgery, Coliesa confessed that she felt different and was doing everything on point ever since she returned from the hospital.

She further revealed that she has started taking walks outside and pushes herself as much as she can. For the first time, Coliesa was excited to meet Dr Nowzaradan. When she arrived at the hospital she realized that she had lost 25lbs and now weighed 499lbs. This was the first time she was below 500lbs and felt pleased with the efforts she had put.

Dr Nowzaradan asked her to continue her therapy while also working hard to lose weight. She promised to keep working hard and to make him proud. Coliesa confessed that she was feeling emotional and added that she was grateful it happened. Calling Dr Nowzaradan her angel, Coliesa was now ready to work harder than ever.

'My 600-lb Life' airs on Wednesdays at 8 pm ET on TLC.
