Wilson understood she had to approach her weight loss holisticallyand that meant addressing why she was overweight in the first place. "I think because I approached it from all areas the biggest thing that I haven't ever worked on was the emotional side, what I suffered from, I guess, as classical emotional eating so I really worked on that side," she told Extra.

Wilson is a big fan of "just walking." "I got all these high-tech tests done on me during my year of health," Wilson said. "They said that walking was actually the best way for me to lose unnecessary body fat." "Walking can be as good as a workout, if not better, than running," says Dr. Matt Tanneberg, CSCS, a sports Chiropractor and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist in Phoenix, Arizona who works with elite athletes. "You hear of people 'plateauing' when they continue to do the same workout routine and stop seeing results. I see patients all the time that plateau from running, they will run the same distance, speed and time, day in and day out. You need to constantly be switching up your exercise routine in order to get the maximum benefit for your health."

Wilson makes it clear her weight-loss goal was never about being "skinny"it was about her health and happiness. "My goal was never to be skinny," she told PEOPLE. "I don't focus too much on the numbers. I still look like me. I love being curvy and I'm still super curvy but just a healthier version. That was my goal. I just try to encourage everyone to be the healthiest version of themselves. That doesn't necessarily mean being smaller in size, it just just means not engaging in unhealthy behaviors. I like to think I look good at all sizes."

Wilson says her now-healthy relationship with food is crucial to maintaining her new weight. "I would numb myself with food," she says. "I was traveling the world and I had a hectic lifestyle and my way of dealing with the pressure sometimes was eating ice cream and brownies, but at the end of the day, I wasn't treating myself with love. I'll have dessert once or twice a week now. It's just not an everyday thing, Having a sweet tooth will always be my vice, but online shopping has crept up a bit!"

Wilson's visit to a fertility doctor brought home the importance of weight loss if she wanted to have a family. "[The doctor] looked me up and down and said, 'You'd do much better if you were healthier,' " she says. "I was taken aback. I thought, 'Oh God, this's guy's so rude.' He was right. I was carrying around a lot of excess weight. It's almost like I didn't think of my own needs. I thought of a future child's needs that really inspired me to get healthier. Wilson has personal trainers on hand to keep her accountable. "I'm in a lucky position I do have access to really amazing personal trainers but I want you guys to know that the majority of the exercise that I've done this year has just been me going out for a walk," she says. Wilson refuses to let weight fluctuations derail her health journey. "I just noticed I put on 3 kgs on my holiday. I'm at an amazing all-inclusive resortI've lost all self-control," she captioned an Instagram post. "But, you know what? I can get up tomorrow, and go to the gym, and hydrate, and eat healthy, and love myself. It doesn't help to be hard on yourself but I know what it's like to feel guilty and not great after eating too much. RIYADH: Unhealthy food and fitness habits are on the rise among Saudi youth, and maintaining a healthy weight has become a concern.

The weight-loss milestones of 24-year-old Salam Farid Azam has been a motivation for many wishing to achieve their weight goal.

Azams priority is maintaining a healthy lifestyle. He lost 25 kg through his balanced habits, which have been cultivated through his educational experience in human nutrition and behavioral science.

Now, he has a mission to help others bury their weakening cycles of poor habits.

Azam created his consultation platform, Sehha W Salam, two months ago.

Sehha W Salam is a platform thats trying to improve the overall health of people in society through personal consultations tailored to them, Azam told Arab News.

Consultants will try to enhance the behaviors and nutrition of people who come. They will try to understand the issues people are struggling with, he said.

Qualified consultants create an in-depth case study of clients issues. Nutritional meal plans, exercises, and a combination of behavioral consultations are then applied, with prices dependent on how complex a case is.

I am a registered associate nutritionist from the Association of Nutrition in the UK. I might recruit more qualified people with both qualifications in behavioral science and nutrition, he said.

The most convenient way of reaching me is through Instagram which is @sehhawsalam. Consultations will be held virtually over any video meeting platforms, or we can do it by visiting each other.

Azam started his journey in the UK after high school. He was inspired to study nutrition because he was overweight during his adolescence.

I thought of studying nutrition because I used to be overweight (at) around 13 years old. I was suffering from it. It affected me in terms of confidence in myself, my general well-being, I was shy, I was not socializing in general. I thought I need to make a decision because I am not who I am, he said.

I stayed at home all the time and played PlayStation and video games. I used to eat a lot, all the time, and I was unaware of my health. I used to play center back, the defending position in football, from primary school until I was 14. My colleagues and football team members (then) told me I need to play as a goalkeeper I am not giving a bad impression of being a goalkeeper, but its usually given to people who dont give a good impression of running. I was feeling rejected, he explained.

Website surfing and Instagram accounts with nutritional information were the first source of awareness for Azams weight loss, before expanding his passion for nutrition at university.

I chose Kingston University. I did my bachelors of science in human nutrition, and I was one of the top students in (the) university, he said.

Azam complemented his bachelors with a masters degree in behavioral sciences at Durham, one of the UKs leading universities.

We learned a lot about behavioral aspects of psychology. Choice architecture is a concept that looks at whether items are on an eye-level, he said. Changing the position of these unhealthy food products affects peoples choices. They crave these foods when they see it.

Losing weight was difficult at first for Azam, especially without surgical intervention. His focus on food quality, avoiding fast food, and exercising gave a positive turn in all aspects surrounding his life.

After I lost weight, I couldnt describe how comfortable I felt. I started socializing, anticipating. I became very confident in myself. I started joining societies, leading them, going into positions of trust, and all of that. Nutrition can help people achieve their best, said Azam.

Generosity is a key component of Saudi culture, and Azam believes that generosity and showing appreciation should not always be correlated with food gratitude can be expressed in many ways. Food for him is not always for pleasure, but instead, mostly for survival.

Saudi society is generous and we conflate it with food. I see people providing a generous quantity of food to guests, and they are treating it as generosity, which isnt always healthy, he said.

Todays doll-like body standards can be dangerous, he added.

Azam said he places an importance in a Hadith that translates as: No man fills a container worse than his stomach. A few morsels that keep his back upright are sufficient for him. If he has to, then he should keep one-third for food, one-third for water and one-third for breathing.

He greatly appreciates the Kingdoms efforts in looking out for the health of people in Saudi Arabia.

I am really glad I am helping my country. Saudi Arabia is doing a really great job at the moment, especially in the health field. I am very proud to be Saudi, and I also look forward to improving my community and taking pride in doing so, he said.

We know our favorite coffee or tea can come with a ton of health benefits. Now, theres a new (ish) tasty brew gaining popularity thats sort of a mix between the two, and provides quite a few perks of its own. Known as cascara, it provides an energy boost while also protecting our brains as we age and helping us lose weight.

Cascara is sometimes called coffee cherry tea because its made from the husks of the fruit surrounding coffee beans and brewed similarly to tea. It has a lighter, more floral flavor than traditional coffee. According to NPR, a fifth-generation coffee grower from El Salvador named Aida Batlle is responsible for coming up with the innovative spin on a regular cup of joe. While sampling coffee at an event in the early 2000s, she noticed a hibiscus aroma in the room where husks from recently milled coffee had been discarded.

I picked through it, cleaned it, and then put it into hot water to see what it was like, she said. Then I called my customers at the time and I was like, Oh my God, you have to try this. Batlle decided to name it cascara after the Spanish word for the peel or skin of a fruit. This part of coffee is usually discarded or composted, but now its become its own delicious drink! You may have even spotted it on the menu at your local Starbucks.

First, dont confuse this drink with teas and supplements called cascara sagrada. Those are made from tree bark in the rhamnus purshiana family and have a laxative effect that is not recognized as safe or effective for over-the-counter use. Definitely not something you want to brew up for a morning pick-me-up.

Cascara made from coffee husks, however, is packed with antioxidants that studies have found to be helpful for shedding a few pounds. In particular, it has ample amounts of chlorogenic acid. In one study, researchers claimed participants who consumed coffee enriched in the acid had a significant decrease in overall weight and belly fat. Another saw promising results for preventing weight and fat gain in the first place. This might be because it promotes the breakdown of fat cells, as described in yet another study.

If slimming down isnt enough to convince you, cascara has also been shown to increase levels of something called brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which promotes the growth and protection of cells in our brain. Patients with Alzheimers often have lower levels of BDNF, so finding easy ways to get more of it could help reduce the risk of developing the disease.

All of that also comes with a delightful floral flavor and boost of caffeine thats not quite as high as regular coffee, so you dont have to worry about getting any jitters. You can even find cascara at local grocery stores (Buy at Walmart, $19.95) or online (Buy on Amazon, $9.99). Brew it like loose-leaf tea with an infuser (Buy on Amazon, $5.19) and enjoy it warm or iced for a refreshing, healthy sip.

These ingredients "thin out" the calories and add potent antioxidants that boost immunity and fight inflammation, which, according to The Nutrition Twins, is a big deal.

"Chronic inflammation is linked to weight gain as well as more difficulty losing weight," they say.

Furthermore, making this recipe is super easy, meaning it can become your go-to, busy weeknight dinner.

"With the satisfying combination of protein and fiber (17 grams and 6 grams, respectively), that stabilizes blood sugar, you'll skirt energy dips and the subsequent sugar cravings and overeating," says The Nutrition Twins. "Like all cruciferous vegetables, broccoli contains sulforaphane, which research shows can help lead to weight loss, decreased food intake, and improved blood sugar levels."

Also, according to The Nutrition Twins, garlic's organic compound, diallyl disulfide, helps to fight the chronic inflammation in the body that makes it harder to lose weight and easier to gain weight.
