Weight loss: One woman lost a remarkable six stone with this plan – what did she eat? – Express

Posted: December 4, 2019 at 9:46 pm

For those hoping to lose a few pounds, a diet plan can help kick start the journey. One woman recently shed an incredible amount of weight, dropping from 17st 9lb to a trim 11st 6lb. Initially losing weight for the sake of her children, the mother-of-two changed her diet plan.

When, Susanne Coles, 34, from Merseyside, was young, she managed to keep a slim frame.

However, the weight started to creep on when she spent a year abroad in Ibiza.

She said: I went to Ibiza one year a size 8, and went back the following year a size 18. I hadnt even realised I had put weight on.

It was as though Id gone to bed one size and woken up bigger. Before I knew it, I was a size 24 and I weighed 17st 9lb.

After returning to the UK, Susanne struggled to beat unhealthy habits and ballooned to a size 24 and 17st 9lb.

Her diet of convenience food and energy drinks meant the number on the scales kept going up.

She said: "Both at college and later on when I was working in a call centre, if I didnt eat at home I was living off convenience food and grabbing at snacks like crisps and chocolate.

I decided to lose weight when my former husband and Daniel and Rebeccas dad - and I got married in November 2008.

I managed to lose three stones then with a slimming group, but I thought after the wedding I could continue to lose it on my own. And I couldnt. It all went straight back on and more.

DON'T MISS

Struggling to stay slim, Susanne soon resorted back to unhealthy habits and gained back the weight she had lost.

Breakfast was a McDonalds sausage and egg McMuffin meal with a full fat coke and a hash brown followed by crisps and chocolate for snacks.

She added: For lunch, Id have a sandwich with anything on white bread, followed by more crisps, another chocolate bar and a Red Bull.

Then going home on the bus Id have more crisps and chocolate, if only to relieve the boredom of the journey.

If I was at home to eat I would have a proper cooked meal, otherwise I would have three sausages, chips and gravy from the chippy with full-fat coke.

However, she decided to change her lifestyle for the sake of her two young children.

I didnt want to be the fat mum at the school gates, Susanne explained. I didnt want to embarrass Daniel and Rebecca - kids can be cruel.

Signing up for her local slimming club, she changed her diet plan and the weight started to fall off.

The slimmer swapped unhealthy convenience food for a breakfast of fruit and poached eggs or an omelette.

For lunch, Susanne would tuck into soup or frittata and she would snack on fruit to keep her feeling full.

By following the diet plan, she shrunk down to a trim size 10 to 12 and 11st 6lb, meaning she lost a total of 6st 3lb.

Not only did she lose weight, the dieter felt much more confident and has managed to stick to healthy eating.

She said: "Im now a size 10 to 12, and the family and I had our first proper holiday this summer and I wore a bikini with confidence. Im still not perfect but losing weight has been so liberating.

Life is not about beating yourself up about past mistakes or holding on to bad things that have happened to you. Its about looking forward, letting go and enjoying it!

Gemma Collins reveals secret to 3st weight loss is storing her food shop in the boot of her car – The Sun

Posted: December 4, 2019 at 9:46 pm

GEMMA Collins has revealed her trick for losing weight over Christmas: Stashing the fattening stuff away in her car.

The reality TV veteran says she has now taken to stockpiling cheese and other treats in the back of her Nissan Micra to stop her eating them.

9

In an exclusive interview, Gemma said: Ive lost three stone now and I feel better than ever. But Christmas is the month of temptation and it is a struggle to be good.

I bought some beautiful cheeses and I had to put them in my car. At this time of year people say, Oh Ill have a mince pie but by the time youve got to Christmas Day, youve put on two stone.

My car is literally full of cheese but its great because its helped me be more disciplined. I always try to have everything in moderation now.

Gemma told me in August how she had used weight-loss injections but she has now switched her focus to exercising more.

9

She said: Ive been using them less and have stopped taking taxis and started walking more.I was doing some stuff for the BBC but rather than getting a car I walked.

Gemma was speaking at the launch of Travel Republics Break Up service, which gives couples a plan B if they split up before a trip abroad, with more information at travelrepublic.co.uk.

Despite her dieting efforts, Gemma who is now back with on-off boyfriend James Argent said trolls are still mocking her size.

9

She added: I feel amazing but people still say Im fat all the time and it gets on my wick.I am as I am and I wont apologise for that. But I do think, Oh God, when are they going to stop? I am happy, Im fit and healthy, Im loving life.

And Im not giving trolls any attention.

Good for you, Gem. Now excuse me while I put the contents of my fridge in my car.

SHARON Osbourne has ramped up her bitter feud with her former X Factor co-star Simon Cowell by calling him a dirty old man for filling his judging panels with attractive young starlets.

Recalling the short-lived US version, which saw Simon and L.A. Reid joined by Britney Spears and Demi Lovato, feisty Sharon said: They looked like dirty old men beside these two little girls.

9

9

Sharon didnt speak too fondly of working with Simon on Americas Got Talent either, following former judge Gabrielle Unions claims of a toxic culture on the show.

Sharon claimed: It is a boys club, OK, it is. The boys take care of each other and the women are not paid as much as the men.

I dont think Simon should expect a card this Christmas.

DUA Lipa channelled her inner Barbie in this glittery, pink mini-dress as she posed for snaps at the Mnet Asian Music Awards in Japan on Wednesday.

Dua was there to perform her latest track Dont Start Now and also scooped the Favourite International Artist gong.

9

The New Rules singer is returning to the UK for a well-earned break over Christmas but is likely to split her time between London and New York where she has a pad with boyfriend Anwar Hadid.

With sub-zero temperatures expected on both sides of the Atlantic, there wont be another chance to wear a dress like this for a while.

I told on Wednesday how Dua has been signed up for Glastonburys 50th festival next year, and now another Brit has dropped a heavy hint he will be playing, too.

Craig David last performed at Worthy Farm in 2017, but was keeping coy when asked if he would be returning. He said: I dont know if I am yet but it would be wicked Glastonbury is just amazing. Lets see.

With Paul McCartney and Diana Ross already agreed, its going to be a bumper event.

GEORGE Ezra wont be riding Shotgun any more after revealing on Instagram on Wednesday that he has finally passed his driving test. Now he can concentrate on his new album and can even drive to the studio.

LITTLE Mix were up early for an appearance on Heart Radio.

But there must have been a mix-up at LM HQ because they were clearly all dressed for very different occasions.

9

Here is my guess on what the girls Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirlwall and Jesy Nelson must have each thought was in store for them.

AFTER working on Bond movie No Time To Die, Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge is planning another film. She told Lauren Laverne on BBC Radio 6 Music: Ive got a movie idea that Im really excited by, so Im going to write that and hopefully make it next year or the following year. Its going to be a creative year.

LEONARDO DiCaprios girlfriend Camila Morrone has defended their 23-year age gap. The model, who has been dating actor Leonardo for two years, said: Theres so many relationships in Hollywood where people have large age gaps. Anyone should be able to date who they want to date.

MODEL Rosie Huntington-Whiteley went naked when heavily pregnant with her two-year-old son Jack, as she couldnt fit into her clothes. Rosie, who is engaged to actor Jason Statham, said: I basically walked around naked for the last month. I was like f*** it. Clothes dont fit any more, they dont look cute.

CAMBRIDGE band Sports Team have big things in store for their show tonight at Londons Kentish Town Forum. As well as delivering a set packed with songs such as The Races and Fishing, they have hired a brass band to play festive renditions of their tracks to fans queuing outside and have even teased an attempt at a human pyramid.

MUSIC snobs have always been quick to write off Robbie Williams, but tomorrow he will cement his place in pop history.

The singers festive record The Christmas Present is set to top the charts, meaning he will tie with Elvis Presley as the solo artist with the most UK No1 albums.

9

He will match Elviss record of 13, with only The Beatles ahead of him.

Of course, if Robbies albums with Take That were also included, his total number of chart- toppers would be 16.

And yes, that seriously overshadows Oasiss eight No1 albums, despite Liam Gallaghers continued taunts.

Chart figures on Wednesday showed that Robbie had sold 35,426 copies of his album since last Friday, putting him a safe distance ahead of his nearest competition, Rod Stewarts Youre In My Heart, which had sold 23,777 copies.

Robbie was held off achieving the feat last week when Coldplay beat him in the biggest chart battle of the year, but their album Everyday Life has sold 22,224 copies so far this week, meaning they wont be challenging him tomorrow.

Im a firm believer that during his three decades in showbiz, Robbie has been one of the most entertaining people in the business both on stage and off.

Judging by the success of this album, theres still much more to come.

Eating your last meal at 2pm may help to lose weight ‘because it suppresses appetite’ – Stock Daily Dish

Posted: December 4, 2019 at 9:44 pm

Eating your last meal for the day at 2pm may sound like torture but it may help you .

Scientists found fasting with a six hour eating window starting at 8am can suppress the appetite and lower levels of hunger hormones.

Fasting diets have previously been thought to help people shed the pounds by way helping them burn more calories.

However, the study suggests restricting meal times helps people to simply eat less, and it may be due to eating in line with the natural body clock.

Although experts have long argued its not what you eat, but when, researchers said this is the first time a study has shown how meal times affect metabolism.

The study atthe University of Alabama at Birmingham tested Early Time-Restricted Feeding (eTRF), which is a type of fasting where dinner is eaten in the afternoon.

Researchers enrolled 11 men and women who needed to lose weight, aged between 20 to 45 with a BMI between 25 and 35.

Participants tried two different meal timing strategies, one where they ate three meals over 12 hours, between 8am and 8pm.

The other strategy saw them have only six hours to eat three meals, between 8am and 2pm.

The same amounts and types of foods were consumed on both schedules which the participants carried out for four days in a row.

On the fourth day, researchers measured the metabolism of participants by placing them in a respiratory chamber.

This allowed them to see how many calories, carbohydrates, fat and protein were burned by each of the volunteers.

Researchers also measured the appetite levels of participants every three hours while they were awake, as well as hunger hormones in the morning and evening.

They discovered the six-hour eating window improved the ability to switch between burning their food for energy to burning fat.

It also increased fat-burning, the researchers led by Dr Courtney Peterson reported in the journal Obesity.

In a healthy person, cortisol levelspeak at around 8am, which wakes us up (in theory), and drop to their lowest at 3am the next day, before rising back to its peak five hours later.

Ideally, this 8am peak will be triggered by exposure to sunlight, if not an alarm. When it does, the adrenal glands and brain will start pumping adrenalin.

By mid-morning, the cortisol levels start dropping, while the adrenalin (for energy) and serotonin (a mood stabilizer) keep pumping.

At midday, metabolism and core body temperature ramp up, getting us hungry and ready to eat.

After noon, cortisol levels start their steady decline. Metabolism slows down and tiredness sets in. Gradually the serotonin turns into melatonin, which induces sleepiness. Our blood sugar levels decrease, and at 3am, when we are in the middle of our sleep, cortisol levels hit a 24-hour low.

The six-hour eating window also helped lower levels of the hunger hormone ghrelin, which stimulates appetite.

The researchers said eating earlier in the day syncs with circadian rhythms the bodys internal body clock.

Circadian rhythms determine the bodys hormones and metabolism, relating to hunger, tiredness and mood, based on exposure to sunlight.

Co-author Dr Eric Ravussin said coordinating meals with circadian rhythms may be a powerful strategy for reducing appetite.

Dr Peterson added: We suspect a majority of people may find meal timing strategies helpful for losing weight or to maintain their weight.

She said this is because these strategies naturally appear to curb appetite, which may help people eat less.

Dr Peterson added: Whether these strategies help people lose body fat need to be tested and confirmed in a much longer study.

The use of fasting diets for health are heavily disputed. Yesterday, scientists said teenagers who skipped breakfast were more likely to have a high BMI.

Advocates swear by fasting diets for reducing stress, improving energy, protecting against type 2 diabetes and reducing weight.

Previously, research on the topic was conflicted on whether meal timing strategies helped with weight loss by burning more calories or by lowering appetite.

This study did not test other fasting methods, including the popular 5:2, which is fasting for two days on 500 calories and eating healthily but normally for five.

Nor did it test the 16:8, which restricts eating to midday to 8pm, with a 16 hour fasting window overnight.

However, Dr Peterson said: We think that the appetite lowering and fat burning affects would likely also apply if the eating window is somewhat later in the day, such as 12pm to 6pm or 11am to 7pm, but probably not if the eating window were late at night.

We think that our results would apply to a majority of people, even if they get up later in the morning.

A six-hour eating window may be too challenging for the average person, and data we have from other studies suggests that eating in an eight or ten hour eating window up to six days per week is a more realistic target.

But researchers have previously found that eating between 8am and 2pm, followed by an 18-hour daily fast kept appetite levels more even throughout the day, in comparison to eating between 8am and 8pm.

The 16:8 diet is a form of intermittent fasting.

This may be more tolerable than the well-known 5:2 diet where followers restrict their calories to 500to-600 a day for two days a week and then eat as normal for the remaining five days.

In addition to weight loss, 16:8 intermittent fasting is believed to improve blood sugar control, boost brain function and help us live longer.

Many prefer to eat between noon and 8pm as this means they only need to fast overnight and skip breakfast, but can still eat lunch and dinner, along with a few snacks.

When you do eat, it is best to opt for healthy options like fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

And drink water and unsweetened beverages.

Drawbacks of the fasting plan may be that people overindulge in the hours they can eat, leading to weight gain.

It can also result in digestive problems over the long-term, as well as hunger, fatigue and weakness.

Best weight loss: Eating more of this food can help you slim – what is it? – Express

Posted: December 4, 2019 at 9:44 pm

A quick search online will bring up many different diet plans all promising fast results. Knowing which one really works is not always easy but there are some key foods which can help dieters get into shape. Eating foods high in protein and counting calories can be the best way to slim, a personal trainer told Express.co.uk.

Diet plans offer a simple way for Britons to ensure they hit weight loss goals.

However, a structured plan is not always the best way to stay in shape, Harry Smith, nutritionist and personal trainer at Snap Fitness told Express.co.uk.

Instead, those hoping to lose weight can see results by watching what they eat.

He explained: There is no best diet for weight loss. Just best principles that suit the individual person.

READ MORE: Princess Beatrice used this plan to slim - will she follow a diet for her wedding?

Counting calories and choosing a sustainable diet plan will get the best results.

You need to be consuming less calories than you expend, Harry added.

The best way to know this is to eat based on the below principles and monitor your body weight weekly as well as tape measurements, if theyre decreasing youre in a caloric deficit.

You need to be able to stick with the diet for the long term.

DON'T MISS

By counting calories, dieters can stay on top of what is in their food and make sure they don't overeat.

When picking what foods to eat, Harry explained a plan is easier to stick to when nothing is off limits.

All foods can be consumed when trying to slim down. There are no fattening foods.

All my clients enjoy all their favourite foods like chocolate and beer when they lose weight.

Obviously this is in some moderation, but you can still eat and drink your favourite foods and lose weight so long as you are consistently in a caloric deficit.

Although all foods can still be enjoyed when trying to slim, dieters can see results by eating more whole and non-processed meals.

He added: Eat mostly whole, non-processed foods like vegetables, grains and legumes and eat anywhere between two and five meals per day.

Whichever suits your lifestyle best and allows you to stick to the diet.

Eating foods high in protein is also recommended when trying to lose a few pounds.

Harry said: Id advise you consume mostly high protein foods from dairy, fish and meat sources and whole non-processed foods like fruits, vegetables, grains and legumes.

The general rules I have with most of my weight loss clients are to make sure they have at least two plants and one fist-sized protein serving with each meal. This does the trick nicely.

Steering clear of unhealthy snacks can also help slimmers keep their calorie intake low.

He added: To make things easier and to avoid big hunger cravings Id recommend moving away from processed sweet and salty foods like crisps, picnmix, chocolate etc. These foods are exceptionally tasty, and limiting the servings can be very challenging.

Contrary to popular belief the only way to lose weight is by sweating through every piece of clothing you own the safest way to lose weight is by making simple and healthy changes in your daily routine. I was overweight for almost my entire life. I was that quintessential Fat-Funny Guy of my class. I remember, I used to stare at myself in the mirror and imagine how I would look if I was thin and fit. I used to squeeze my double chin and look at myself in the mirror to see what I would look like without that fat. But the fact of the matter is that I never really took any measures to actually become thin. Partially because I wasnt too serious about it, and partially because I believed that I wasnt really THAT FAT. The people around me were also somehow very nice and also kind enough to not let ever me feel that way. However, everything changed the day my dad got a new and fancy digital weighing machine. I was very excited to step on it, and when I did that the machine flashed 110 kgs within seconds a figure that was 10 kgs more than the heaviest guy I knew! I was shaken and shattered. It was that day when I decided to do something about it it was the day I decided to be Just The Funny Guy Of My Class (minus the fat part).

Ariel Winter Posts Creepy Photo With Veil Over Her Head – PopCulture.com

Posted: December 4, 2019 at 9:44 pm

Like many of us, Ariel Winter isn't a fan of Mondays, as evidenced by her latest Instagram post. On Dec. 3, the Modern Family star shared a photo of herself sitting in a makeup chair with fabric over her head, proclaiming that she was "hiding."

"hiding from Monday morning like [eye emoji]," she wrote, adding the hashtag #mood.

Justin Mikita, who is married to Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson, jokingly commented, "What is happening here," to which Winter responded, "truly no idea."

In the snap, Winter was wearing a white tank top, white plaid shorts and gold pointed heels, prompting SiriusXM host Gabrielle Symon to comment, "You so hot !!! Dem legs!!"

Winter made headlines earlier this year for a rapid weight loss, which she explained was an unanticipated result of switching the antidepressant medication she was on. Speaking to Women's Health in October, the 21-year-old shared that her weight loss was unintentional and that she felt like her new medication "turned back on my metabolism."

"I didnt change my antidepressants because I wanted to lose weight, Id just accepted it and it was fine," she said. "I got inspired to actually find a medication that helped me as a person and did all the things I wanted it to do."

"When I changed meds, and started feeling better about myself mentally, losing weight was helpful because it made me feel like I wasnt just stuck," Winter added. "I hate being stuck anywhere in life."

After fans began noticing her weight loss, the actress received a number of negative comments, some of which she replied sarcastically to on Instagram.

"YupI dropped 30 bodies of water so fast," she told one person. "And yes!! My psychiatrist switched me from my previous antidepressant that didnt work and made me gain weight, to coke/meth!! Definitely not a new one that worked and then regulated my metabolism. Coke/meth was a controversial decision, but she stands by it."

Winter explained to Women's Health that she ultimately decided to change her social media habits after noticing that she spent more time responding to negative comments than positive ones.

"Its hard not to because Im a feisty person, nobody likes being treated that way," she said.

Andy Ruiz Jr. vs. Anthony Joshua 2: Height, weight, age and reach of the heavyweight title fighters – DAZN News US

Posted: December 3, 2019 at 8:42 pm

Everything you need to know about how the two heavyweights stack up heading into their Dec. 7 rematch.

Andy Ruiz Jr.haslookedvisibly slimmer in preparation for his highly anticipated rematch with Anthony Joshua.

AJ, too, looks trimmer, as everyone had a chance to see during his public workout in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

How their respective weight lossaffects the fight remains to be seen, asRuiz puts his unified world heavyweight titles on the line against Joshua in Diriyah, Saudia Arabia, and live on DAZN, on Saturday, Dec. 7.

Ruiz will be looking to prove that his shocking June 1 seventh-round TKO wasn't a fluke and that he has the British boxer's number in a mismatch of styles. He enters the ring with one blemish on his record a questionable Dec. 2016 majority decision loss to Joseph Parker.

Meanwhile, Joshua is seeking redemption in the form of exacting revenge and snatching back the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO titles to become a two-time unified world heavyweight champion. Twenty-one of his 23 pro fights have ended via knockout, and he looks to add Ruiz to that count in what would be his most savory KO.

The winner of this bout still has big things ahead. Apotential showdown of the winner betweenWBC titleholder Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury for the rights to the undisputed heavyweight crown could be next although Joshua on Tuesday indicated a possible trilogy fight with Ruiz in the future.

Here's the tale of the tape between Ruiz and Joshua in what could be the fight of the year:

Weight Loss Apps: Can They Motivate the Unwilling? – Psychology Today

Posted: December 3, 2019 at 8:42 pm

As holiday shopping accelerates, devices and apps that track food intake, exercise frequency, and durationas well as sleep cycles and stress, will be advertised as an important aid to living a healthier lifestyle. Those who already have such aids may be putting them away until January 2nd when the country seems to go on a New Years resolution diet. And others may be trying on their new watches and wrist bands, scanning their newly downloaded apps for information on how to be maximally successful in their weight-loss endeavor.

Do they work? Does recording every morsel of food consumed into a program that identifies its caloric content, along with major and minor nutrients, support and sustain the effort to lose weight? Can devices and apps that are programmed to remind the user to move, to sleep longer, decrease stress, and avoid emotional overeating, along with providing information on whether the user met daily goals of reduced calorie intake work? And if so, do they work as well or better than face-to-face groups, or individual counseling sessions?

One study compared the use of an online weight-loss program that included lessons in behavioral change, self-monitoring of weight, exercise, and the recording of food intake with a traditional weight-loss program. This program involved frequent group sessions in which dieters received instruction on changing their eating behavior and personal interactions with the support staff, in regard to what they were eating and their level of physical activity. A control group was told only to keep track of their food intake with food logs and received written responses to their submitted food and weight records.

The weight-loss results were somewhat surprising. Two hundred and seventy-six subjects were divided into three groups and each group lost about the same amount of weight. The only differenceand it should not be minimizedis that the number of dropouts was much greater in the control group, perhaps due to the absence of interactive feedback on their progress. The efficacy of a remote, computer-driven weight-loss support program seems to be supported by this study, according to the authors, and adherence to the program equaled that of participants enrolled in actual as opposed to virtual meetings.

However, in another study, subjects failed to respond to a weight loss Apps requests to track food intake and weight by evaluating whether people can change more than one behavior at a time.

The researchers asked one group of dieters only to note their weight for a month on an App, and although they received a suggestion about exercise and other ways of living a healthier lifestyle, they did not get a diet plan. Another group interacted with an App that told them to monitor their weight daily, follow a diet, and follow behavioral change suggestions. A third group received only diet advice from an App. The group asked to track weight, food intake, and respond to behavioral suggestions simultaneously did best in adherence to logging in and interacting with the program. The two other groups interacted with the Apps program only sporadically or not at all. The authors speculate that participants who were failing to lose weight lost interest in using the Apps, and ignored requests for information on weight and food intake.Obviously, the Apps were unable to motivate the now disinterested dieter in interacting with their programs.

People typically drop out of weight-loss programs when they find their weight loss is too slow or has stopped. When my weight-loss clients failed to attend a group or individual weight loss meeting and were contacted, they said they dropped out because, My diet failed me. However, an App programed to help the dieter achieve weight-loss goals doesnt require explanations or excuses to explain the failure to lose weight or eat more healthily. There is no judgment or criticism from the computer program if food tracking isnt done, or exercise not performed as there might from a weight-loss facilitator or physician. No App, unlike a family member or friend, is going to tell the dieter that he or she will probably fail at this attempt to lose weight because they have a history of diet failures. And unlike weekly meetings of support groups and/or individual counseling, the App is always available, 24/7. Thus, using an App to monitor and support weight-loss efforts might be more effective in helping the dieter lose weight than human interactions, especially when the weight loss slows.

Many years ago, a then extremely popular weight-loss program insisted that the dieter fill out a food log daily and present the food log at that evenings meeting with a staff member. Weight was measured every evening as well, and dieters were advised on how to improve food choices. Dieters were initially successful because of the very frequent monitoring of food intake and weight. But as one participant told me, filling out the food logs became tedious and unpleasant. We all would sit in the parking lot of the clinic and fill out our food logs before our appointments. Of course we just made up what we ate.Who was going to put down potato chips or ice cream?

Food tracking apps are easier to use than a paper and pencil record of food intake, but they also require discipline and motivation and a high tolerance for repetitive activity. Apps that also track exercise are very easy to use as well, but are irrelevant if the individual wearing the activity tracking device is immobile. Suggestions on changing behavior to reduce emotional overeating or decrease portion size are sensible and may work, if followed.

People benefit from these Apps because they are able to improve the nutritional quality of what is eaten, or motivate exercise because the App gives instant praise when physical activity occurs. But are Apps able to motivate the disinterested or discouraged dieter? Are there Apps that entice users who stop tracking food consumption or refuse to exercise to begin again? Are there Apps that really understand why we eat too much? Maybe the next generation of such devices will accomplish this.Or maybe not.
