Mazz and Sam before and after their 123Diet journey
A healthy Thanksgiving plate!
BOCA RATON, FL, Nov. 27, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mazz Sturgeon knew she needed to lose weight. According to her, she has struggled with emotional eating since she was in her twenties, and though she was initially able to keep her weight under control, things changed when she was about forty.
Mazz then began to put on weight rapidly without any change in her eating patterns and was subsequently diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. My doctor told me that even a glass of water might make me put on weight, Mazz said.
Things only worsened when Mazz began to blame her medical conditions for her excess weight, as she began to use them as an excuse not to care what she was putting in her mouth. So she continued to gain weight, ballooning to 106 kilos (233 lbs) at only 5 ft 4! Mazzs unhealthy lifestyle caused her health to deteriorate further, and she was soon diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis.
So when Mazz found Emma Taylors 123Diet, her mind was finally in the right place to make a big change. This sensational program, which is sweeping the nation in Australia, works by combining a healthy, clean-eating meal plan with the 123Diets signature drops, which work to boost dieters metabolisms. This allows them to lose weight more rapidly than they could by dieting alone. The drops also suppress dieters ability to detect sweet tastes, thus blunting their sugar cravings and suppressing their appetites.
As an emotional eater, Mazz initially found having to give up her unhealthy comfort foods difficult, but once she began to see the amazing changes in her body, she became enthusiastic about staying on track! Unlike other diets, the 123Diet allowed Mazz to see a loss on the scale every day, which helped keep her motivated. Mazz was also inspired to stay healthy by the creative and delicious recipes she found on the diets active Facebook support group.
In the end, Mazz lost 40 kilos (88 lbs) in only 11 months, putting her at a healthy weight of 65 kg (145 lbs). Even more remarkably, she reports that she was able to reduce her medications by two thirds and to eliminate some of them altogether. I have so much more energy, have bought a push bike, and want to exercise! Mazz says.
Yet Mazzs greatest joy from the 123Diet was helping her daughter Samantha to change her life as well. Samantha also suffered from medical issues due to her weight, but Mazzs success encouraged her daughter to follow in her mothers footsteps. Samantha ultimately lost an amazing 35 kilos (77 lbs)!
Mazz even convinced her husband to join in, and he was able to go from 120 kilos (264 lbs) to 105 kilos (231 lbs)! All three have maintained their new weights since, and the family is now looking forward to a happier and healthier future.
Since the holidays can be a difficult time for someone beginning a weight loss journey, Emma also wanted to share a few tips to help everyone have a Thanksgiving thats both happy and healthy. Once youve survived this holiday, it might be a great time to give the 123Diet a try if you do, you might be able to lose as much as 5 kilos (10 lbs) before Christmas!
Emmas Ten Thanksgiving Tips
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Enjoying the holiday feast; unless you’re a wrestler cutting weight – Post Register
Posted: November 28, 2019 at 12:42 am
RIRIE Mashed potatoes and gravy are the enemy. The smell of fresh pie wafting through the air is torture.
Welcome to the world of a wrestler at Thanksgiving.
For wrestlers who have to cut weight, the holiday season can be cruel.
I wish Thanksgiving was after wrestling season, Ririe junior Tye Sherwood said following a practice this week.
Cutting weight is part of the wrestling culture. Some would argue its the hardest part.
Today as families gather around the table to give thanks and offer blessings, wrestlers will suffer in silence as food gets passed around. Its not just any food, either. Mostly its the fattening kind, the good stuff that those not cutting weight will consume with delight. And then go back for a second helping.
It does stink that wrestling season is right at the two best holidays for food, Ririe coach Chris Harris said.
Suffering and torture might be overstating what wrestlers go through. Most wrestlers have learned how to handle their diets and fitness and are prepared to enjoy the holidays as best they can.
I can eat turkey, drink water, no soda, Sherwood said. Green beans are good Jell-O for dessert.
I dont worry about it too much, Ririe junior Gabe Sommers said. Coach told us to just enjoy the holidays and be smart.
Harris noted that the Idaho High School Activities Association has guidelines for weight loss and monitors wrestlers progress when they cut weight.
The days of trying to drop 15 pounds two weeks before the season are long gone.
Harris said that some of his wrestlers keep track of their weight all year, not just during the season. Some, like Sommers, have a regimented workout they do every day.
Sommers is one of the lucky ones. He hasnt had to worry about cutting weight and has even tried to gain weight at times.
Its hard to watch them, honestly, he said of his teammates who are obsessed with the scale and monitor every pound. I bring a lunch box to the tournaments and I try not to eat in front of them.
Ririe must be doing something right. The Bulldogs won their fifth straight 2A state title last season, joining Teton as the only Idaho wrestling program to ever win five state titles in a row. Sommers is a returning state champion at 195 pounds, as is Stetson Machen at 113.
Machen, a senior, will wrestle at 120 this season and is in the process of losing eight pounds to make weight before the season opens next week. He has a couple more pounds to go.
The biggest thing around the holidays is making sure you dont put on so many calories that youre not going to be able to get them off, he said, noting that his family has a wrestling background, so everyone knows how much discipline it takes to make weight and eventually become a champion wrestler.
The main thing is trying to drink a lot, he said. That keeps your body from craving so much food. It keeps your stomach full.
Smaller portions are always helpful, he said. Knowing what to eat and what not to eat on Thanksgiving is crucial.
Desserts will kill you and make you feel weighed down when you come back to practice, Machen said.
Making the right choices can be have long-term results.
You kind of think about how hard you have to work in practice the next week (to lose weight). Youre thinking If I dont eat this now, maybe Ill be able to eat an extra granola bar the day before the meet. Its a tradeoff.
Sometimes experience helps. Sherwood said he cut 10 pounds as a freshman, but would gorge himself after tournaments and was miserable afterword. Thats no longer a problem.
Harris said wrestlers will get the weekend off during Thanksgiving. Theyre responsible for how they handle their meals.
Some kids dont understand that if you take your time and do it right, you dont have to suffer, Harris said.
As the holidays approach and the season gets underway, there is one thing that all wrestlers agree on.
Stay away from the mashed potatoes, Machen said.

Cutting Back on Sugar and Carbs Helped This Dad Drop 75 Pounds – menshealth.com

Mike Ewing had been waiting in line for three hours. The 34-year-old owner of a HVAC company in Westminster, Maryland, was visiting Universal Studios, excited to get on a Harry Potter ride. Just before he could clamber aboard, though, an attendant took him aside, asking him to sit in a chair to check the fit for the safety harness. Ewing didnt fit; he couldnt ride. It was one of the most embarrassing moments of my life, he says. To be so big you cant fit on a Harry Potter ride. That was a real wake up call to me.
Hed been heavy for most of his life, at 511 and 240 pounds. But hed been going out to restaurants a lot, overeating, not paying attention to his diet. The weight, he says, came on pretty fast. He started feeling self-conscious, having to shop at big and tall stores. He was 28 years old and weighed 280 pounds.
Ewing threw himself into fixing his diet. He cut out sugar; he dropped most carbs. He had a trainer who pushed him to lift weights twice a week; one day of upper body work, one day of lower. Not crazy, but a habit Ive kept to this day, he says.
He dropped to 250 pounds pretty quickly. Then he went off his diet. But he stayed around the weight: 250-260 or so. Then he started having health issuesbowel infections and gout so bad he had trouble walking. With two young daughters, he decided he had to shape up.
He went back on his diet and in six month shed another 45 pounds. Hed gone from from 280 to 205, in two separate cuts, over seven years. Hes able to buy regular clothes that fit, and is down to a 36-inch waist, something he never remembers having. Hes more confident. I am able to be a better father and husband now, he says. Thats really all that matters when it comes down to it.
In some ways its been a long journey, but having his wife along has helped keep him motivated. A few months into his weight loss plan, she started her own. I started to look better, and she started to look better, he says. We helped each other out so much in this regard. Once you start seeing results its so much easier to keep going. Within a few months, people noticed; now its often a topic of conversation. I get a lot of shocked faces, yes. Hes still looking to lose more weight, with a target of 189 pounds.
Find something that works with you and stick with it, he says, when it comes to weight loss advice. His weight gain was 100-percent diet, so thats what he focused on. He committed to it, with no cheat days; allowing himself that wiggle room made it too easy to backslide. Exercising is the most important thing you can do for the overall health of your body, he says, but weight loss really begins in controlling what you eat.

Weight loss: This guy lost a massive 50 kilos in less than 8 months! Here’s how he did it – Times of India

It does not matter what is to be blamed for the rapid weight gain, we can all agree that getting rid of those stubborn kilos can be taxing. When 31-year-old Manpreet Singh did not like the way he looked in his selfies, he decided to do something about his growing weight. This is his inspiring weight loss journey.
Name: Manpreet Singh
Occupation: BankerAge: 31 years
City: Patiala
Current Weight: 76 kgs
Height: 5 feet 6 inches
Highest weight recorded: 127 kgs
Weight lost: 50 kgs
Duration it took me to lose weight: 7.5 months
The turning point: Even though I knew that I was rapidly gaining weight, it struck me when I was clicking a selfie. I realised that I had gained a lot of weight and I needed to do something about it. While it was really difficult to begin my journey to lose weight, I could not get that selfie out of my head. I did not want to look that fat or overweight.
My breakfast: Oats and two boiled eggs.
My lunch: A portion of brown rice with green vegetables.
My dinner: I vouch on green vegetables. Some of them are broccoli, capsicum and french beans)
I indulge in: I do not believe in the concept of cheat days
My workout: I do cardio for 30 minutes every day. I also work on two muscle a day.
Low-calorie recipes I swear by: Brown rice mixed with scrambled egg whites and vegetables. I also have quinoa with vegetables.
How do I stay motivated? Slowly, when I began to witness tangible changes in my body, it motivated me further to stay fit and lose weight. My gym friends also kept me inspired and motivated. How do you ensure you dont lose focus? I have realised the importance of being disciplined in life. When you are determined and dedicated, no one can stop you from achieving what you want. Whats the most difficult part of being overweight? It was really heartbreaking when I wasnt able to fit into the clothes of my choice. Moreover, I wasnt able to see my shoes when I stood straight.
What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line? I want to have six-pack abs and a sculpted physique.

Melissa McCarthy’s Perspective On Weight Loss Is So Insanely Relatable – msnNOW
Posted: November 28, 2019 at 12:42 am
There's no funnier actress in Hollywood right now than Melissa McCarthy. The mom of two daughters with husband Ben Falcone (they recently celebrated their 14th anniversary) and Midwest native has made a name for herself on television with her roles on Gilmore Girls and Mike and Molly. And shes of course a bonafide movie star, with films like Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters, and the soon-to-be-released Superintelligence in December 2019 as well. But she's been an inspiration when it comes to other *big* topics on the minds of so many women: weight loss and body positivity.
Besides her work on the screen (as well as producing), McCarthy, who turned 49 in August 2019, has been candid about discussing her weight and health journey as a superstar in Hollywood. Shes been open, honest, and of course, hilarious, about what its been like to have her body as a topic that's constantly in the spotlight and how she navigates that. Click through the slideshow above for everything you need to know about McCarthys health and weight-loss journey, in her words.

Bored of the gym? Try these martial art forms for weight loss and muscle tone – Firstpost
Posted: November 28, 2019 at 12:42 am
Parineeti Chopra has been training hard for her upcoming role inSaina, a biopic about badminton star Saina Nehwal. The Hindi film actress has been on an inspirational fitness journey since 2015 when she took up Kalaripayattu, a South Indian martial art form, to tone her body the healthy way. Chopra has since tried a range of workouts, from pilates to swimming. The reasons: mixing things up makes sure you never tire of your fitness routine and that you successfully avoid a workout plateau.
As we await the release ofSainanext year, lets relook at Kalaripayattu and some other martial art forms that are great for weight loss and muscle tone.
Kalaripayattu classes in Chennai. Image source: Getty Images.
Kalaripayattu: One of the oldest traditional martial art forms in the world, Kalaripayattu has its origins in Kerala, with many warrior clans in the region practising it to protect their land. The martial art form is inspired by movements of animals like the lion, tiger, snake and elephant. Other than losing weight, it improves body flexibility, promotes awareness and helps in gaining control over the mind.
Karate: A Japanese word that means empty hands, Karate was born in the Okinawan Islands as a form of self-defence at a time when weapons were banned by invading Japanese forces in the early 20th century. Its a good choice for anyone who may be looking to build upper body and arm strength, as it involves a series of punches, kicks and strikes. A person can burn nearly 450 calories in a single 30-minute session of Karate while training at a personalized level.
Taekwondo: A Korean martial art form which is often - mistakenly - thought to be similar to Karate, Taekwondo involves greater use of the legs. With many more kicks, it helps to tone and strengthen the lower body. It also makes the body more flexible.
Kickboxing: Technically a mishmash of Karate and boxing, Kickboxing originated in 1950s Japan. It is a full-body exercise that helps in toning the arms, legs and abs. It also helps in increasing mobility, flexibility and balance. One of the most intense cardio workouts, its estimated that a person can easily burn 400 calories in a one-hour session.
Judo: Judo is an intense martial art form which involves holding, throwing, blocking and controlling the opponent by taking them down. It is more like a form of self-defence, so it requires great strength. The practitioner may lose a lot of weight if he/she does not increase his/her caloric intake while practising judo.
Capoeira: You might have heard of this Afro-Brazilian martial art in the context of Zumba. Capoeira combines elements of dance, acrobatics, and music. There are leg sweeps, lunges, head kicks and elbow movements all rolled into a rhythmic dance that helps to burn a lot of calories. It enhances flexibility and endurance and tones up the entire body.
Kung fu: Kung fu is a high-intensity martial art form that originated in China some 400 years ago. Its most famous practitioners - actors like Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Jet Li - may have made it look easy, though its anything but. Constant movements like kicks, punches, jumps and somersaults are required in this martial art form, which eventually helps in losing weight. Apart from teaching you self-defence, Kung fu makes your heart stronger (cardiovascular training) and tones the muscles.
Tai-Chi: An ancient Chinese martial art form, Tai-Chi is a low-impact workout thats easy on the joints. The movements, with poetic names like white crane spreads its wings, draw on nature. Often compared to Yoga, this form of exercise is supposed to have wide-ranging benefits like reducing stress, controlling blood pressure and increasing muscle definition.

Weight loss: Top tips to lose weight by improving your digestion – Express
Posted: November 28, 2019 at 12:42 am
The idea that the digestive system plays a vital role in the ability to lose weight makes sense, when you think about it. When overeating or consuming foods that are hard for the body to break down, digestion slows and the waste gets compacted within the body. Over time the development of a sluggish digestive system and waste buildup leads to weight gain.
1. Eat a high fibre diet
Lily said: We all know that fibre is good for us, yet on average we drastically under consume this critical component of the diet.
"Adiet and nutrition survey conducted by Public Health England showered that on average a Briton consumes about 18 grams out of the recommended 30 grams of fibre per day.
Since fibre is the primary source of fuel for our healthy gut bacteria, a diet rich in wholegrains, fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds also helps our bacteria to flourish and grow, said Lily.
DON'T MISS
2. Opt for antioxidant and fibre rich berries
Fruit and vegetables aregreat fordigesting, but as many as 70 percent of adults within the UK are currently not even consuming the recommended five a day .
Lily explained: Having sufficient fibre, which is found in fresh fruit and veg is a must for gut health.
Berries are especially important, partly due to their high fibre content. Did you know that fresh raspberries have as much as 6.7g fibre per 100g?
Berries are also a super-rich source of special antioxidants called anthocyanins, which are plant pigments that give berries their distinctive blue/red hue.
These anthocyanins are metabolised in the gut and help healthy gut bacteria to flourish and grow whilst offsetting unsavoury gut bacteria.
3. Prebiotic foods
There are some foods which are particularly effective for encouraging healthy gut bacteria to flourish and boost weight loss. Some foods are rich in a special type of prebiotic fibres, that act as a source of fuel for healthy gut bacteria and effectively stimulate their growth.
Top sources [of fuel from food] include Jerusalem artichoke, flaxseeds and even garlic and onion, said Lily.
4. Eat the rainbow
A lack of diversity with the types of bacteria within the gut is thought to be associated with disease. Diverse microbiome is thought to be a healthier and more robustmicrobiota, therefore eating different plant-based foods weekly can improve digestion and boost the rate at which food is broken down, which increases the rate at which weight is lost.
Lily said: Rainbow coloured plant-based foods provide a range of plant chemicals such as polyphenols which our gut bacteria feast on. A diverse diet can encourage a diverse range of healthy gut bacteria to grow.
Therefore eating the rainbow and counting the colours within our diet can really optimise our microbiota.
According to research from The American Gut Project, gut microbiota thrives if people aim to consume 30 or more different varieties of plant foods each week.
Aim for two fistfuls or fill half your plate with rainbow coloured fruit and veg, said Lily. Aim to switch things up weekly by opting for a mix of colourful fresh berries including blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and blackberries.

As experienced Texas congressmen retire, will the state’s sway in Congress decline? – 550 KTSA
Posted: November 28, 2019 at 12:40 am
BY J. Edward Moreno
WASHINGTON U.S. Rep. Kay Granger, R-Fort Worth, was in Congress for over a decade before she narrowly won a bid to become the top Republican on the powerful House Appropriations Committee last year.
Thats about how long it takes to achieve a position like that, especially on the committee that decides government spending. Her placement there was a big win for Texas Republicans in the House, giving one of their own a considerable amount of clout.
But the number of Texans in Congress with Grangers experience has been shrinking dramatically in recent years. This year, six of Grangers GOP colleagues from Texas, including five who would have had at least a decade of experience if theyd remained in their seats past the next election, announced retirement plans a run for the exits that Democrats termed the Texodus.
Loading
House members often come and go, leaving room for new leaders to represent the interests of millions of Texans. In recent years, however, the turnover has been high. That, combined with Democrats taking control of the House, has diminished the overall influence Texans carry in Congress.
Regardless of who in the party is in control, the fact that these members are leaving, obviously that weakens the influence of the delegation, said Richard Cohen, chief author of The Almanac of American Politics, adding that the delegation has been known to carry its weight.
The Democrats flipping the House in 2018 was perhaps the biggest blow to Texas clout in Congress. Before Republicans lost the majority, Texans had six committee chairmanships. Now they have one: U.S. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson, D-Dallas, who chairs the House Science, Space and Technology Committee. And the wave of new Democrats washed out some powerful Texas Republicans.
Then-U.S. Rep. John Culberson, a Republican member of the House Appropriations Committee from 2012 to 2018, lost his seat to Democrat Lizzie Fletcher. Former U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions, a Republican from Dallas, was chairman of the House Rules Committee when Democrat Colin Allred defeated him. (Sessions is seeking to return to Congress in 2020, running for a different seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Bill Flores, R-Bryan.)
Another Republican, U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith of San Antonio, chaired the the Science, Space and Technology Committee before he retired and Republican U.S. Rep. Chip Roy took his seat. It will be years until Fletcher, Allred or Roy is in a position to chair a committee if they stay in Congress long enough.
Soon, the state will lose even more powerful members. Among those retiring after 2020, three Texans are the top Republican members of House committees: U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry, R-Amarillo, is the ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee; U.S. Rep. Mike Conaway, R-Midland, is the ranking member of the House Agriculture Committee; and U.S. Rep. Kenny Marchant, R-Coppell, is the ranking member on the House Ethics Committee.
Only two ranking members from Texas remain: Granger, who is facing a tough 2020 primary challenge, and U.S. Rep. Kevin Brady, R-The Woodlands, who is ranking member of the House Ways and Means Committee. If the House flips back to Republicans in 2020, those Texans would become chairs of their influential committees.
But while powerful members have departed, some of the freshmen who replaced them have begun to make their marks. Democrats, in particular, have enjoyed the fruits of joining Congress while in the majority. U.S. Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-El Paso, has emerged as a leading voice on immigration and border security issues, largely due to her districts location along the border. After the resignation of U.S. Rep. Katie Hill, D-California, Escobar assumed the position as freshman representative on House Speaker Nancy Pelosis leadership team a sign that shes in good standing with party leadership.
Its important that when decisions are being made that the voices on the table be representative of the diversity of our caucus, Escobar said.
And then theres U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Houston, who won his seat after the retirement of U.S. Rep. Ted Poe. Around Washington, some have dubbed the outspoken and young former Navy SEAL as the future of the GOP. (That honorific had once been bestowed on another Texas Republican, U.S. Rep. Will Hurd of Helotes, who is among the six Texans retiring this year.)
More shakeups in the Texas delegation could come in the 2020 elections. The filing period is open for the 2020 elections, and multiple incumbents still havent turned in their paperwork, though they still have until Dec. 9. Democrats are hoping to knock off another three incumbents with years of experience, while Republicans hope to regain the two seats they lost in 2018.
Many of the toughest political battles will happen in the Texas suburbs, which used to be majority white and safely Republican.
Theyve got a problem, Cohen said. There are many reasons Republicans, especially in the House, that theyve become reluctant to separate themselves from Trump. Or if they want to separate themselves from Trump, they are either retiring or have contested seats.
