‘This Is Us’: Toby Just Took the Weight Loss Thing Too Far, and Fans Can’t Take It – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Posted: November 22, 2019 at 2:41 am

During season 3 ofThis Is Us, fans rejoiced when Toby (Chris Sullivan) and Kate (Chrissy Metz) finally conceived. Were not sure why we thought it would be all sunshine and rainbows, but its not. Kate went into labor early, and the babywho she named Jack, after her fatheris blind.

Since the babys birth, things have not been going well forToby and Kates relationship. Early on in season 4 of This Is Us,fans were hating on Kate, but now the tables have turned. Fans weremad at Kates reactionto Tobys weight loss, but now they feel he has taken it too far.

When we first met Toby, back in season 1 of This Is Us, he was addicted to food. He went to group therapy sessions to talk about his negative relationships with food. Now that he has overcome his addiction with food, fans believe he replaced it with something else.

TOBY SWAPPED ADDICTIONS, exclaimed one Reddit user. He swapped food for CrossFit, and he is acting like an addict. Hes ALWAYS going to the gym. Social Media is an addiction. The CrossFit text is part of the addiction. You do get a dopamine hit with social media, and that would replace the food dopamine hits he doesnt get anymore.

I was listening to a management speech that was really interesting, added another fan. It talked about how likes and comments trigger dopamine release in our brains, and it can literally become something addictive.

Toby was on a plane with his wife and their infant, and he was posting and connecting to his CrossFit group and Instagram instead of his family, the Redditor concluded.

Fans believe Toby is taking his weight loss journey over the top. He is completely absorbed in his need to go to the gym and talk to his CrossFit friends that he doesnt see the way he is hurting Kate.

Other fans add to the addiction revelation that Toby is not home very often with his wife and new baby. They are outraged that he wants to see all of the firsts but doesnt make an effort to stay home for them.

In a recent episode, Toby asked Kate to wait to feed Jacks solid foods. However, Kates neighbor unexpectedly gave Jack avocado. Toby is upset when he finds out after the fact that he was not the one to feed him first.

Maybe Im missing something, but Kate is in the house all day with baby Jack and Toby goes out to work, described one fan. And goes to cross fit, has lost weight, and has new friends! And Toby is getting mad he is missing jacks firsts?? He doesnt seem to be home too much! Hes out having more of a life than she is, so I can see how she can be upset with him.

From a new mom with a kid who isnt special needs, wrote another Redditor, I would be pissed if my husband started spending so much time working out and asking me to wait to feed my kid so he could be there. No, you need to make more time and be more present with your family, and sometimes that means not getting to go work out every day. Im not saying he shouldnt have time to work out, but it seems his is on the excessive side.

Fans are also upset that Toby insists on bringing his own food to Thanksgiving dinner at Randall (Sterling K. Brown) and Beths (Susan Kelechi Watson) home. He breaks out his snacks and begins telling everyone about what hes eating.

Also, as he sat on the couch, snapping his fingers saying you follow this plan, you lose 5 lbs like that snaps fingers,' added another fan. Kate was just looking on, and I think it added to her self esteem issues. I know it would for me if someone was talking like that. Like when does she have time for herself?

Not only is Toby losing the weight that Kate wanted to lose with him and surrounding himself with a new group of friends, but hes even bragging about it to her family. The Toby we knew and loved has taken a turn for the worst. Hopefully, he will redeem himself when This Is Us returns from fall break on January 14, 2020.

What is the Optavia diet? Prepared food and weight loss – TODAY

Posted: November 22, 2019 at 2:41 am

Among the hundreds of diet plans out there, a newer plan that has gained popularity as a structured path to weight loss is the Optavia diet. The diet, which lays out how many meals to eat each day and sells packaged food, has been mentioned by some well-known names.

But what is the actual diet and how much does it cost? Can it help people lose weight and keep it off?

Some people might remember the Medifast diet, which had its main claim was that it was developed with doctors. This diet is a reboot, with some additions.

There are three different diet programs from which people who want to follow the Optavia diet can choose. The variations include how many meals a day to consume and how many are pre-packaged versus made at home.

One weight loss plan, for example, is based on six small meals a day, five of which are provided to you by the company and are referred to as fuelings. The fuelings are essentially a months worth of bars, cereals, shakes, cookies, soups and snacks none of which require any real cooking. The sixth meal is made at home with regular grocery items, which the company refers to as lean and green meals. These primarily consist of protein and vegetables, with an encouragement to include some healthy fats and omega-3 fatty acids. The program provides transition meal plans when people are ready to stop using using their prepared foods.

Trending stories, celebrity news and all the best of TODAY.

One of the additional elements this plan provides is support. In addition to the food, there are coaches, online support and instructions that favor one habit change at a time. Finally, the company provides programs tailored to seniors and teen populations, as well.

If quick weight loss is a goal, this plan could be a solution. This is most likely a reason why it has soared in popularity. The diet may also seem easier and more achievable since the majority of meals and snacks are pre-determined.

In addition to quick weight loss, the plan eliminates alcohol and sugary drinks, which have strong ties to disease when consumed in excess. It also discourages desserts, including chocolate, as well as most solid forms of fat, including butter and coconut oil. If a participants can change their eating habits to avoid these foods as a result of following the plan, that would be an independent beneficial aspect.

Finally, the plan provides access to their online community support, weekly support calls and coaching. For some people, this can be an essential component to success in weight loss.

The long-term data on whether people using the plan maintained their weight loss, however, is lacking.

The diet may teach people how to lose weight with their food, but what happens when they have to make their own meals? This may be the biggest downfall to the Optavia diet. Although the diet removes the burden of decision-making in meal planning, it cant solve some of the other barriers to losing weight and keeping it off when it's time to transition away from eating their foods. These factors are part of what researchers call an obesogenic' environment that includes intense food marketing, availability of food and portion size, coupled with stress and sedentary lifestyle.

Though the plan factors in transition foods over time, participants are still dependent on their options to get through the weight loss period, which means they may shell out hundreds to thousands of dollars just to stay on Optavia's packaged foods. Additionally, the food options may provide the quantity that makes weight loss sense, but the food is processed and lacks nutrient density. Supplements are recommended to enhance nutrition during the diet.

People who follow the diet strictly will probably lose weight. This has less to do with the program and more to do with the fact that any low-calorie plan will increase your chances of weight loss. But, its the long-term data that should be more important since sustaining weight loss is the ultimate success barometer, not the weight loss itself. In fact, studies show that weight loss maintenance can be a more challenging endeavor than weight loss. A recent analysis reviewing multiple studies showed that more than half of the weight loss the participants achieved was gained back in two years, and 80% was gained back in five years.

Losing weight is hard and very few programs that make buying their food a requirement have been shown to lead to permanent weight loss.

Though the social support on this program may be beneficial, cooking and consuming real food may be a better way to lose weight today and keep it off tomorrow.

Weight Loss Normalizes ALT and Improves Long-Term Outcomes in Chronic Hepatitis B – Infectious Disease Advisor

Posted: November 22, 2019 at 2:41 am

High body mass index(BMI) is an independent risk factor for longitudinal alanine aminotransferase(ALT) elevation after complete hepatitis B virus DNA suppression; therefore, weight loss may help to normalize ALT and improve long-term outcomes, accordingto a study published in the Journal ofInfectious Diseases.

Although the majority of patients with chronic hepatitis B achieve sustained viral control and normal ALT with long-term antiviral treatment, some patients may still present with an elevated ALT, which is often associated with unfavorable outcomes. However, little is known about the underlying cause and means of intervention for ALT elevation after complete viral suppression. Thus, researchers conducted a real-life, prospective cohort study with 1965 patients with chronic hepatitis B who achieved complete viral control by nuceleos(t)ide analogs therapy and maintained undetectable levels of hepatitis B virus DNA for at least 6 months. They found that at a median follow-up of 18.36 months, one-third of patients experienced ALT elevation, and that baseline high BMI (equal to or over 25 kg/m2), younger age, and liver cirrhosis independently increased the risk for longitudinal ALT elevation.

At the end of follow-up, 89 (4.8%) patients reverted to a low BMI and 92 (5.0%) reverted to a high BMI. The researchers observed that compared with persistent high BMI, reversion to a low BMI reduced the risk for ALT elevation, whereas compared with persistent low BMI, onset of high BMI increased the risk for ALT elevation.

In conclusion,ALT elevation is common in [chronic hepatitis B] patients after complete viralsuppression by [nuceleos(t)ide analogs], and high BMI is an independentpredictor, stated the authors. They added: Improvement of BMI,probably underlying reductions in steatosis, may have a beneficial effect onALT normalization.

Weight loss: The 5 ways to burn fat while you SLEEP according to science – The Sun

Posted: November 22, 2019 at 2:41 am

WITH Christmas just around the corner, most people have resigned themselves to the fact they're bound to pile on the pounds.

However, winter doesn't have to be synonymous with weight gain.

1

With science on our side, there are some little things you can do to make to turn your body into an effective fat burning machine while you sleep.

In particular, small lifestyle changes like standing up more or drinking more water can make a significant difference to how many calories you burn each day.

Here, we take you through several simple steps to maximise weight loss - with proven research by scientists.

A recent study published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology found that standing and sitting more frequently can lead to relatively fast, and low effort weight loss.

In particular, they found that standing versus sitting for six hours a day would help a ten stone person burn an extra 54 calories a day.

Add it up over the course of a year, and thats equal to nearly half a stone, the researchers say.

Plus, previousstudieshave shown that standing burns about nine additional calories per hour compared to sitting.

That said, researchers cautioned that you shouldn't rely on standing alone to shed pounds: "Whether such a small difference in [energy expenditure] will truly translate into long-term weight loss is yet to be proved."

Feeling stressed over a long period of time can increase the hormone cortisol, which directly influences fluid retention and water weight.

Scientists say it also increase a hormone, known as the antidiuretic or ADH, which sends signals to your kidneys telling them how much water to pump back into your body.

Managing your stress levels will help you maintain a normal level of both ADH and cortisol - vital for long-term health and disease risk.

A recent study revealed that short spurts of intense exercise are better for weight loss and burns more fat than workouts that takes double the time

Researchers found that 23 minutes of high intensity interval training was more effective than 41 minutes of aconventional workout.

It led to 29 per cent more weight loss than traditional gym sessions.

NHS tips for weight loss success

The NHS has shared six actions that will start you on your journey towards a healthy weight:

Steven Ward, CEO of fitness industry body UK active, said: These figures show the positive impacts of interval training on reducing weight and, with Britain battling a grave obesity crisis, this research should be welcomed.

Typically, HIIT involves 30 seconds of intense effort, such as sprinting, cycling or doing burpees, followed by short recovery periods.

It may seem a bit contradictory, but one of thebest ways to lose water weight is to actually drink more water.

That's because if you're constantly dehydrated, your body tends to retain more water in an attempt to prevent its water levels getting too low.

Water also boosts your metabolism, cleanses your body of waste and acts as an appetite suppressant, experts say.

Guidelines suggest about two litres per day, but it can vary from person to person, so simply drink when you're thirsty and stop when you feel well hydrated.

You can usually use your urine colour as an indicator of hydration - if it's light yellow or fairly clear then you're well hydrated.

When it's dark yellow or amber then you need to be drinking more water.

"Fail to prepare and you prepare to fail" - and that's totally true with dieting.

Spend one day a week working out what you'll eat for the other days and make batches of grub, so you're not having to bother with cooking when you come back from work.

Prep your breakfast and lunch the night before to take to work and you'll save a tonne of cash - and inches around your waist - on shop/cafe bought food.

Sports nutritionist Scott Baptie also recommends dieters (and actually, anyone interested in healthy eating),should "prepare for an alien invasion", by stocking up on healthy food that you can access at all times.

"When faced with a dietary disaster, it can be all too common for people to throw in the towel and either order a greasy, calorie-loaded takeaway or just create a random concoction of bits they find in the cupboard like cheese and crackers with a side of toast, crisps and half an Easter egg," he wrote in his book,101 Ways to Lose Weight and Never Find It Again.

"However, if you've got an emergency food stash, then you can still cook up a tasty and healthy plate of scoff to tide you over."

Tabata is a whole body workout with 8 different exercises in an interval of 4 minutes.Friday: Shoulder workout and cardioSaturday and Sunday rest.

So, even though I lost some weight, I gained it back again very soon. Hence, it is important to be consistent and eat healthily. While being a vegetarian, it was difficult to find the right diet, but I managed to lose weight without doing any special diet. I have realised that a calorie deficit diet is the only thing you need to lose weight.

How do I stay motivated? There were a lot of moments in my life when I thought of giving up and in those times the only thing that kept me going was the quote-- I didn't come this far to only come this far. While everyone says that looks dont matter and you need to have a good heart, it is all a lie. When you are overweight, people will body shame you, discriminate against you and look at you with disgust. I was tired of the way people looked at me and I wanted to get rid of that.

A Man Challenged Himself To Eat Only KFC For A Week, But Somehow Lost 2 Pounds In The Process – Delish

Posted: November 22, 2019 at 2:41 am

There are certain rules in life that most people know, like the fact that youre probably going to put on weight when you eat a bunch of fast food. Well, one man from the U.K. ended up eating nothing but KFC for a week and actually managed to lose a few pounds. Yeah.

YouTuber Mike Jeavons decided to eat KFC for a week (because why not?) and he circled back with fans about the results in a video he shared earlier this month. Jeavons explained in the video that he decided to mimic the documentary Super Size Me for a week to see if he still was into his beloved KFC. I love KFC and wanted to see if I'd still love it if it was all I ate for a week, he said.

So, Jeavons said he went to KFC on the regular, which increased his daily sodium intake by 150%. In his recap, Jeavons said he had a salt hangover and felt like he became addicted to fast food during the week.

That all made sense, until he shared that he actually lost 2 pounds on the fast food-only diet.

Jeavons said he spent about $135 dollars on KFC during the week and basically ate his way through the whole menu. Still, he managed to only eat about 2,000 calories a day on average, which might help explain the weight loss. But, Jeavons added, his fat intake increased 250%, so who knows?

The experiment was similar to one that went viral a few months back where fitness coach Jordan Syatt ate a Big Mac a day and also managed to lose weight.

Overall, Jeavons said he had a lot of fun eating all this naughty food and that hes now a little bummed that hes not making regular KFC trips. He also said hes missing the flavors and that salty kick. Food doesnt seem as salty to me anymore.

As for his theory that he might be totally over KFC after this, Jeavons said that definitely wasnt the case when the week was done. I really missed KFC! he said.

In case you're thinking of going on the KFC diet (fair), Jeavons points out that he felt pretty crappy while he was on it: He was tired "all the time" and started chugging water as soon as he woke up because of all of the salt he was eating.

Still, you can dream, right?
