NFL Lineman Andrew Whitworth on Losing Weight and New Goals – Men’s Health

Posted: June 16, 2022 at 2:00 am

Andrew Whitworth has had a hell of a year: In February, the 16-year NFL vet won the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, given in recognition of a player's charitable work off the field in the community. Three days later, he got it done on the field, tooWhitworth won the Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams, becoming the oldest offensive lineman to win a title. The 40-year retired after the game, walking off the field as the winningest left tackle in NFL history, and the second-oldest player in the NFL (only Tom Brady was older).

When youve had a start to the year like that, especially after decades of success as an athlete, whats next? Whitworths still figuring that out. But in the gym, its started with dropping some of the excess weight linemen carry to keep their quarterbacks upright. Im trusting that I've built a life of muscle mass and having strength, he says. And I'm going to let that go a little bit for a little while and just worry about getting myself down to where, being somebody as big as I am, I feel better about moving around, feel better about being more active and conditioning.

Part of that activity, like many retirees, means hitting the linksWhitworths handicap has been as low as 2 in the past, and hes hoping to improve it even further. But his retirement wont be all plaid slacks and strolls down the fairway. The former NFL big man had just finished a near-max effort training session when we caught up with him. I spent the last week traveling, so I didnt work out as much last week, and my trainer just murdered me, he says. Im trying not to throw up.

Whitworth kept his lunch down long enough to share what hes eaten to drop 25 pounds in the past few months, his post-retirement training plans, and tips for guys who want to get involved in their communityor get after it fast in the gym during a busy week of travel.

This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity.

My focus really since the Super Bowl has been eating better, eating less, really cutting down my portion control and eating a lot healthier, and preparing when I know there's going to be a trip or something. Preparing my diet to say all right, maybe the one meal's bad, but the rest of the day is really good.

Then training-wise, I'm probably down 20, 25 pounds, and I've literally just walked. I just play golf and I probably walk 20 to 30 miles a week. I just try to every day get out and walk four to five miles, listening to music, audiobooks, those kind of things. I'm plenty strong, and muscle mass is not an issue for me. So I'm going to spend three to four months trying to get my weight down, and just walk and not really put the body under a ton of stress so that I can get myself down to a weight where then it's the next phase. Then it's like, all right, let's pick it upsome version of HIIT training or CrossFitting or, what's going to be the new thing? Jiu jitsu? Muay Thai?

I look at it as in this phase, I'm trusting that I've built a life of muscle mass and having strength. And I'm going to let that go a little bit for a little while and just worry about getting myself down to where, being somebody as big as I am, I feel better about moving around, feel better about being more active and conditioning.

So I think the first goal for me is getting to under 300 pounds. It's really getting down to probably, like I always say, power forward shape, finding a way to kind of look somewhat like a power forward in the NBA. That's that's kind of the goal.

I don't know if I want to put an arbitrary date on it, but I think maybe like August 1 or the end of the summer, when really football season starts again, which would be normal for me, kind of in my mind to get started again saying, "All right, here's where I'm at. What are the goals going forward?"

Ryan trained our offensive line group the last couple of years in the off season. He's trained Cooper Kupp, Christian Yelich, a lot of different guys. But he really specializes right now in kind of this one on one training thing. You go from one exercise to the other. There's no break, there's no rest, there's no time down. You just constantly move it.

You might be doing something as simple as some kind of T-spine opening, but there's never a stopping point. You're going straight from that to a lunge, straight from that to an RDL, or a step up or an RFE [Bulgarian split squat]you're just constantly moving. There's times when we're just trying to move and tax the lungs a little bit. And that's kind of the focus right now, three days a week with him, it's that kind of thing. Opening the body up, moving really well, balance stuff.

This content is imported from Instagram. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

And then Tuesdays and Thursdays is some kind of healthy knee and ankle type day. We're working some mobility, some balance. There's a program called Knees Over Toes. It's gained a lot of traction. We do a lot of that type stuff, with some band stuff.

Probably the first two months or almost three months, I did literally egg whites and spinach in the morning. I love tuna, so I would do tuna steaks just sliced up, kind of seared with white rice and some spinach for lunch. And then I would do some version of either salmon, sea bass, something like that, and some rice at night... with some spinach as well.

If you hear the recurring theme, I can't stand greens, so I eat spinach. It's the only one I'll eat. And it's probably only because I loved Popeye when I was a little kid. But Eric Weddle and I, who played an eternity in the NFL, both can't stand greens, so we're big on the "greens are overrated" train just because we think we're living proof that it's not that important. But it probably is, and we're just idiots.

Now I've kind of moved into a phase of fasting. I'll do like 16-hour intermittent fasting. Sometimes I'll mix in a 24-hour day. For me, just in general, I have always seemed to lean out and do better, weight-wise by not eating breakfast. No matter how lean I eat, or how good my diet is, for whatever reason, breakfast has kind of always been a trigger for me to eat more or be hungrier throughout the day. And with fasting, I've always seemed to be goodhave a window, eat in that window, and then don't eat. And I just seem to do better, weight-wise.

I get up at 5-ish every morning and I'll get in the infrared sauna for an hour before we wake the kids up. I'll spend like an hour in the sauna at like 130- to 140-degree heatand sometimes I'm like half-asleep stillbut I just kind of lay and then sweat a little bit every morning. Then I get the kids up, have a cup of black coffee, and then once they're gone, I'll usually either go for a walk or I'll do my training in the morning. And then usually my first meal's at noon, so I go from 12 to 8.

Guys that are 6-foot-7, 330 pounds aren't meant to be swinging golf clubs. But I constantly send [Sorensen] different guys doing golf fitness on Instagram, and we'll kind of build little things into the workout time. But also I think what golf has really done for me is alignment. It feels crazy to say golf would have anything to do with an NFL player's regimen, but for me it's always been, about just crossing the "X" of your body.

Courtesy of Andrew Whitworth

When I was younger, it was like 6 a.m. workouts, and then I would go the driving range and put in headphones. I didn't play many rounds of golf, but I just would hit golf balls for hours a day. Two hours in the morning, eat some lunch, come back and hit for a couple of hours in the afternoon and just sweat. I lived in Louisiana in the offseasonit was 100 degrees, 100 percent humidity. I really believe that extended my career and gave me the ability to really handle the heat and training camp and all the feet time. For linemen, when you're 300-plus pounds out on the practice field, walkthroughs, practicesthat's three, four hours standing on your feet. And what's very similar to that? The game of golf. So, I mean, I would spend July every year walking the golf course with the bag on my back and just hitting golf balls, sometimes myself, sometimes with people. It was a part of my regimen to play every year. So it's kind of always been a little part of my workouts.

But now, yes, to your point, I'll do a lot more stuff, a lot of rotation, a lot of stuff that you need to make sure you get low back health, hip health. Opening the spine up in the hips and really getting a chance to get in some of those RDL positions and do some deep spine rotations while getting the hips involved. And I think for me, it's really learning how your hips rotate and move in the spine as welland how in the game of golf, which is interesting, how they rotate at different times.

A lot of guys joked with when I was first at the Rams, because I would not practice on certain days of the week. So the days I was off, I would do 100 push ups, 100 sit ups, 100 squats, like every day. So I'd be sitting out there at practice, they'd be on the field and I'd be over there doing my squats and stuff. And the guys would laugh at me because they'd catch me on tape time to time on days supposed to be resting, and I'm working out.

That's always been a regimen of mine. I'm going to hit 100 squats, 100 sit ups, 100 pushups every day while I'm traveling.

I also love to throw in 30 on, 30 offs, or 40 on, 20 offs. I'll put on a 30-minute timerI have this app on my phone and I literally put on a 40-second on, 20-second off timer, and I'll just sit there for 30 minutes and get after it. Whatever comes to mind: sometimes jumping jacks, running in place, push ups, sit ups, bodyweight squats. I love just a 30-minute window of getting after it. For me, that's easier than sitting on a treadmill or jogging or any of that type. Get your heart rate up and try and maintain that workout for 30 minutes and you're almost getting that same effect.

Now, you also have to know to how to tinker. You could do that and blow it all out in 5 minutes. You're exhausted and you can't even finish the workout. So it's really having that knowledge: maybe I'm lunging one time, maybe I'm doing jumping jacks, maybe it's a situp. But if I've gotten to a point where I'm really exhausted, then this round may just be curls. I just want to keep moving. That's the ultimate goal for these 30 minutes.

I think that's an easy way to just get after it, blow out some calories and not make it so complicated. Because I think sometimes sitting in a weight room trying to figure out how to do all the reps and what body part it is you have to do that day... it can get a little boring and sometimes hard to do.

Over my time there's been some really special athletes to watch, but none more impressive than Aaron Donald. I mean, he's he's definitely the number one of one when it comes to training. Ive been impressed over the years, whether its Roger Saffold, James Harrison, Aaron Donald, Geno Atkins at times early in his career. T.J. Houshmanzadeh, I can remember, just the ability to get after it and have a plan. Even Carson PalmerI tell all the young quarterbacks when I meet them.

Just do something. You'll never regret doing a nice gesture.

It's the regimen, the plan, day in and day outthat consistency is really the key. That's the reason I brought up the thing about the 30 minute workout, or 100 pushups, situps, and squats. You really learn that it's more about consistency than it is about exactly what you're doing all the time. If you know yourself and you know what you need, and you can just force yourself to be consistent... that's really what the special ones have. All the special guys that I've been around, whether it be players, trainers, fitness guys, MMA fightersI'm more impressed by the consistency they live with and in their training. They have this ability to just make every day count. Even the days when it shouldn't count because you're exhausted or you're just not in the mood, they find a way to get something out of the day. And I think to me that's really important.

When people ask how were you good in the NFL? What made you a special player? I think in training it's no different. It's being a really good evaluator of where you're at, what you're good at, and what you're not. Make yourself uncomfortable and be willing to say, here's something that I could do a lot better and it would make a difference in my training.

And I think that's why I've always liked to challenge myself. I'm a big dude. It's not that fun to do something like hot yoga. It's like the last thing I think I want to do. But I also know that it's really good for me. So when I lived in Cincinnati, I used to play on Sundays. On Mondays, I'd do our morning lift with the team, and then Monday afternoons I'd go to hot yoga every single week. I got to a point where I craved it. Just that ability to get all those toxins, all the swelling and stuff out of my body.

So I think it's finding what you need. There's so many guys throughout the NFL that I watch that don't make itthey come in with a talent, and they only work on what they're good at. They never really address the things that they're not that good at. And that's really what ends up being the thing that dooms them. When you look at a guy like Aaron Donald, when you look at Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp, what's special about those guys is not their talentevery player that walks in the NFL has some version of a talent. It's that the things that you wouldn't consider their talent are constantly rising. Maybe they'll never be as good as their special talent, but they're getting better at those things and it's making their special talent stick out even more.

And that's really to me how training is as well. If you already know you're really, really strong and you're just not getting where you want to go, then work on mobility, work on your conditioning. Find ways to to back off a little bit in the lifting and keep a little more balance in how you're training. If you're really weak, make yourself spend some days learning to get stronger. Find your weaknesses and put some attention to those things.

If you keep having these little things to get better at, you create more confidence. And that inspires you to work out harder and go further and make it more exciting.

You can lose sleep thinking about what the perfect thing to do is all the time. It's really just about the act of getting involved. And that could be sitting beside somebody who's going through a tough time, that could be sitting at a Boys and Girls Club and just conversating with people. It could be actually getting physically involved in wanting to build something or do something. It could be advocating for people. It could literally be your time, your money, your voicewhatever it is that really you want to do. But don't worry about it being perfect. Just do something. You'll never regret doing a nice gesture. You'll never go, "Man, I wish I wasn't nice. I wish I wasn't kind. I wish I wasn't humble." You don't look at those times and regret those things.

Courtesy of Andrew Whitworth

It's going to be one of those things that will inspire you, and it'll create this just rolling ball of, "How else can I get involved?" And you'll realize that just doing something and getting in the door will be what will jumpstart everything, just because you didn't wait and let the moment pass by without doing anything. You'll get inspired, and hopefully you can develop a consistent manner to keep going back. And I bet it's going to be one of the best things that ever happened to you.

Does Hydroxycut work? Weight loss and side effects

Posted: June 16, 2022 at 1:58 am

In an effort to lose excess weight, many people look toward supplements for a quick and easy fix. Weight loss supplements, including Hydroxycut, often claim they will produce dramatic results in a short amount of time.

However, as with any weight loss supplement, a person should question whether or not it works. In this article, learn about whether Hydroxycut has any effect on peoples weight loss goals. We also look at the possible side effects.

Hydroxycut is the brand name of a weight loss supplement that claims to help a person lose weight quickly.

Hydroxycut comes in a variety of forms, such as capsules, drink mixes, and gummies. The company offers several different types of Hydroxycut products, including:

Each of Hydroxycuts products aims to help a person lose weight. The most common ingredient included is caffeine. The remaining ingredients include a variety of extracts and minerals.

Hydroxycuts primary active ingredient is Coffea canephora robusta or coffee extract. This means it contains caffeine.

Although caffeine raises a persons heart rate and energy levels and may help reduce appetite, the effects are short-lived.

Early studies from the 1980s and 90s indicated some promise, but no current evidence suggests that caffeine is an effective solution for weight loss.

Hydroxycuts website states that scientific studies back the claims that their products work, but other sources indicate different results.

For example, a review of studies on C. canephora robusta found that the ingredient might promote weight loss, but that its effect was small. The researchers also stressed that more rigorous and more extended trials were necessary to determine its effectiveness.

Also, information published by the National Institutes of Health indicates that the main ingredient in Hydroxycut may have some positive impact on weight loss, but that clinical studies are of poor quality.

Even the people who took part in the clinical studies and lost weight while taking caffeine were not relying on a supplement alone. They followed an exercise routine and a low-calorie diet at the same time.

Hydroxycut has a long history of issues with the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

In 2004, the FDA banned the use of ephedra in weight loss products.

At the time, Hydroxycut contained ephedra, and the company had to change the formula to remove this ingredient.

From 2004 to 2009, the most common ingredients used in Hydroxycut products included caffeine, green tea extract, and various, undisclosed amounts of botanical extracts.

In 2009, the FDA recalled Hydroxycut products under a health fraud charge. At that time, the FDA had received more than 20 reports of serious health problems linked to Hydroxycut. These health problems included liver disease, seizures, heart disease, muscle problems, and death.

The FDA do not require supplement manufacturers, such as Hydroxycut, to test their products before introducing them.

Hydroxycut warns that people under 18 years of age should not use their products. It also warns that a person should stop using the product if they experience any adverse side effects.

Hydroxycut may offer some weight loss benefits due to its caffeine content, but there is a lack of sound evidence to back this up.

People should be aware that Hydroxycut has a dubious track record on safety. Before starting Hydroxycut, a person should speak to a doctor about how it may affect their overall health or interact with other medications or supplements.

The #1 Best Apple Cider Vinegar Habit for Weight Loss, Says Dietitian Eat This Not That – Eat This, Not That

Posted: June 16, 2022 at 1:58 am

It's unexpected that something found at nearly every supermarket can be so versatile with its functionality, but apple cider vinegar can be used in so many different waysas a preservative, in recipes, to help skin conditions like acne and warts, and even as a natural deodorant. The vinegar, which is made from fermented apple juice, can also help you drop a few pounds through its effect on appetite and gut health when it's consumed before mealtimes.

The best habit to develop with apple cider vinegar in order to result in weight loss is to drink it before mealtimes, according to Trista Best, RD, a registered dietitian at Balance Once Supplements. Best recommends mixing apple cider vinegar into a beverage, like a glass of water, or just drinking it on its own as a daily habit to help result in weight loss.

"This is the quickest way to get in the benefits of ACV without needing to break down capsules or powders," Best says.6254a4d1642c605c54bf1cab17d50f1e

That doesn't mean that you should be pouring yourself an entire glass of vinegar to drink. A Japanese study found that participants who drank between one and two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar every day for three months saw modest weight loss after taking part in the study.

RELATED:I Drank Apple Cider Vinegar for a Monthand the Results Surprised Me

Registered dietitian Elliott Torsney, CPT, RDN, CDE says that the apple cider vinegar habit of drinking it before eating helps to lose weight because studies show that it works as an appetite suppressant, which can help you eat less at mealtimes. Torsney also said to be sure not to drink the mixture with meals, as it won't be effective in helping your body to lose weight in that case. Instead, make sure to drink it before you eat a meal.

Best also notes that weight loss can occur after drinking apple cider vinegar because of the improved gut health that happens when the vinegar is regularly consumed.

"Apple cider vinegar may help repair or correct many gastrointestinal issues because of the antimicrobial, antiviral, antifungal, and pre and probiotic characteristics it exhibits," Best says. "Each of these characteristics works together to improve and protect the gut's health, which can result in effective weight loss efforts and more."

This is effective because when the body's gut isn't working at its best, it can result in a slower metabolism and it can be more difficult to burn calories.

"When the gut isn't working as efficiently as it should it can slow the body's ability to digest and absorb nutrients, which can result in a slower metabolism and stalled weight loss," Best says.

RELATED:4 Eating Habits That Slow Your Metabolism After 50, Say Dietitians

Similarly, when the gut is working effectively it helps to burn calories at a higher pace, and increase weight loss efforts, according to Best.

While apple cider vinegar can result in weight loss, it won't do the job alone and won't serve as a substitute for any healthy life changes. A tablespoon or two of apple cider before meal times must be combined with a healthy diet and regular exercise to maintain any consistent weight loss.

Gabourey Sidibe’s Weight Loss: A Look at her Transformation – TheTealMango

Posted: June 16, 2022 at 1:58 am

The Empire star Gabourey Sidibes weight loss journey has been a long but fruitful journey for her. The American actress has had an amazing transformation over the years. Learn all about Gabourey Sidibes weight loss journey and her weight loss secrets.

For those of you who are unaware, Gabourey Sidibe is an American actress. She was born on May 6, 1983, in Brooklyn, New York. Her mother, Alice Tan Ridley, is a gospel and American R&B singer, and her father, Ibnou Sidibe, is a cab driver. She grew up with her aunt. Before stepping into the world of acting, she worked as a receptionist at the Fresh Air Fund.

Prior to that, Gabourey went to City College of New York and Mercy College, and she started pursuing her only passion at the time, which was acting. Within the blink of an eye, she landed an audition in Precious. It was previously named Push: Based on the Novel by Sapphire. The story of the movie revolves arounda young woman struggling with poverty and physical and sexual abuse.

Gaby made her acting debut with the 2009 film Precious, where she played the role of Claireece Precious Jones. Her performance in the film bagged her the Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead. Along with this, she also earned nominations for the Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Actress. The film was very well received by the end of the viewers as well as critics.

The movie Precious ended up bagging many accolades at the Cannes Film Festival and Sundance Film Festival. At that point in time, the movie did not have a distributor, but the American talk show host Oprah Winfrey came forward and she helped with the promotion of the movie, and it was released via Lionsgate Entertainment. The name of the movie was changed to prevent confusion with the action drama,Push.

To date, the 39-year-old actress has been a part of several films includingTower Heist (2011), Yelling to the Sky (2011), White Bird in a Blizzard(2014),Grimsby (2016), Come As You Are (2019), and Antebellum (2020). She has also starred in many shows such as The Big C, American Horror Story: Coven, American Horror Story: Freak Show, Empire, and Difficult People.

Gabourey has lost a whopping 150 pounds! Before starting her weight loss journey, Sidibes weight was nearly around 300 pounds and at the time she also had type 2 diabetes. Let us tell you her weight loss journey has been more than just a physical journey.

Losing those extra kilos has helped Sidibe reduce the adverse effects of type 2 diabetes, bulimia, anxiety, and depression. Many women worldwide go through similar issues soit is important to talk about Gabys weight loss.

When you are a woman in the public eye, you are expected to fit those ideal standards of beauty. You are supposed to be in a particular size and shape. But with times things are changing but at a snails pace. Gaby was once even told by a popular actor that she should quit the field of entertainment as it is so image-conscious!

Gabourey started taking her health pretty seriously when she got to know that she had type 2 diabetes. She was frightened when she learned that her life was at risk, and it was then that she decided to lose weight.

As soon as Gabourey got wind of the fact that she had type 2 diabetes, she wasted no time and consulted her doctor Dr. Bradley Schwack, a bariatric surgeon, and she decided to undergo weight loss surgery.

During the surgery, her doctor removed nearly 80% percent of her stomach to reduce its capacity. As a result of the surgery, Sidibe did not feel much hungry and felt full soon.

At that time, Gabourey confirmed that she underwent the surgery, and said, The surgery wasnt the easy way out. I wasnt cheating by getting it done. I wouldnt have been able to lose as much as Ive lost without it. She also made many efforts to make this expensive surgery successful.

Following are the tips that Gaby follows to keep from gaining the excess flab back:

In her childhood days, Gabourey used to consume a lot of soda on various occasions. Not just that, she would frequently also eat burgers and fries. These unhealthy eating habits were the reasons for her weight gain.

When Sidibe decided that she is ready to lose those extra kilos for achieving good health, the very first thing she did was cut soda from her diet completely. In place of soda, she began having ice-cold water with a few lemon slices. This keeps her body hydrated and it also flushes out all the toxins from her body.

The second step taken by Gaby to get rid of the excess weight was to remove all the junk food from her diet. Her childhood days were filled with junk food, and she would eat Oreos and fries.

Sidibe cut down on burgers, pizza, fries, and other processed foods, which helped her reduce her salt and trans fats intake. Whenever she felt hungry, she would munch on vegetable chips, hummus, and saltine crackers.

In addition to making changes in her eating habits, consuming food at the right time is something of utmost importance as well and Gaby makes sure to eat food at the correct time.

She kickstarted eating 5 to 6 meals in a day that consisted of a heavy breakfast, a mid-sized lunch, and a light dinner. She drinks water nearly 20 minutes before every meal so that helps her to stay hydrated and prevents her from overeating.

When you are trying to lose weight, keeping a track of the portion size of the food is very essential. Because it doesnt matter how healthy you eat, if you overeat, you will automatically still gain weight.

Gabourey even reached out to a nutritionist and talked to her personal trainer and started consuming the right amounts of good carbs (veggies, fruits, and grains), protein, and healthy fats (olive oil, avocado, seeds, and nuts).

The best way to control the portion of the food is to use smaller plates while eating food. When you eat food on a smaller plate, then your brain tricks you into assuming the small quantity of food to be a large quantity of food. As a result of this, you think you have eaten too much but thats not the truth.

For those of you who are unversed, let us tell you Gaby loves Oreos and cupcakes and she use to binge on them whenever she felt hungry but since the time she learned about her diagnosis with type 2 diabetes she made a big decision to give up on them too.

The level of sugar in these kinds of food is very high and when you are diabetic, you have to control the amount of sugar you consume. So, she just gave up on some of her favorite food items for the betterment of her body and to help treat type 2 diabetes.

Do you think controlling your eating habits is enough to lose weight? Of course, not. Heres what Gaby did nearly a month after following her clean eating lifestyle.

Soon after, Sidibe started eating healthy, she began feeling more energetic and active. And she knew the route to quicken the process of weight loss. She went on to hire a professional trainer who would help her slowly get back in shape. Keep reading to catch a crystal clear understanding of her exercise routine.

Gaby began working out with low-impact exercises such as slowwalks on the treadmill, stair stepper, and Versaclimber to put minimal pressure on her joints. When she started doing cardio, it helped her a lot to burn calories effectively, and that too at a faster rate. Then, she would go on to do other exercises for 30 minutes, three days per week.

The actress did quite a few exercises like leg presses, lunges, squats, lat pull down, and barbell curl to enhance her body composition and most importantly lose her weight. In June of 2017, she also dropped a stunning picture of herself doing aerial yoga.

We must say, so far she has really worked hard to shed those extra kilos and we can see that it has certainly paid off in her latest pictures. Many fans of the star all over the world have been very curious to learn Gabourey Sidibes weight loss secrets since the star lost 150 pounds. It was previously stated she underwent bariatric surgery which involved eighty percent of her stomach being taken out of action.

The surgery is considered a safe alternative for people with morbid obesity and related health concerns to lose weight. Over the last couple of years, it has become a very common surgery. Being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes taught Gaby that her life was at risk and she directed all her focus toward adopting a healthier lifestyle in life. Since she went under the knife, she has been avoiding soda, eating healthy, and hitting the gym to keep the weight off.

In her new memoir,This Is Just My Face: Try Not to Stare, the White Bird in a Blizzard star spilled the beans on her incredible weight loss journey. She talked about her struggles with anxiety, depression, and bulimia, as well as her decision to undergo weight-loss surgery.

Sidibe stated that for more than a decade she had been trying to lose weight naturally but she made the decision to undergo laparoscopic bariatric surgery in May 2016 after she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

During an interview with the People magazine, Gabourey said, I truly didnt want to worry about all the effects that go along with diabetes. I genuinely [would] worry all the time about losing my toes.

The Hollywood actress also told the magazine, that the surgeon told her that the procedure would cut her stomach in half, which would lead to a reduction in her hunger and capacity to eat, but Sidibe was adamant about the fact that this wasnt just an easy way out.

Sidibe went on to say, I wasnt cheating by getting it done. I wouldnt have been able to lose as much as Ive lost without it. Since 10 months after the operation, she turned her lifestyle upside down for the better. She took the guidance of a nutritionist to bring out a change in her eating habits and work out by swimming and riding a tricycle around the Empireset under the guidance of a trainer.

In her memoir, she claimed that she has reached her first weight goal and she plans to decide on her new goal. She made one thing clear about her surgery and why she got it done in her book and wrote, I did not get this surgery to be beautiful. I did it so I can walk around comfortably in heels. I want to do a cartwheel. I want not to be in pain every time I walk up a flight of stairs.

9 Fruits You Need To Add to Your Smoothie for Weight Loss Eat This Not That – Eat This, Not That

Posted: June 16, 2022 at 1:58 am

Fruit blended into a protein smoothie makes a shake for weight loss taste great without having to be sweetened with nut milk containing added sugar, flavored yogurt, honey, or some other sweetener. But like any sweetener, fruit contains sugar, so if you add too many high-sugar fruits into your smoothie, you can still spike your blood glucose.

So, fruit smoothies can be a slippery slope for people hoping to lose weight. That's why many of our medical review board dietitians offer caveats when their clients look to smoothies to help them slim down. Protein smoothies are best used as meal replacements, rather than snacks, since your ultimate goal is achieving a calorie deficit by the end of the day. But as substitutes for meals, smoothies should contain fewer calories than the meals they replace.

Julie Upton, MS, RD, co-founder of Appetite for Health Consulting, is one of the registered dietitians on our board who shuns smoothies for weight loss. "Eat your calories, rather than drink them," she advises. Drinks can be loaded with calories that you don't realize are there as you'll learn by reading 40 Drinks You Should Never Drink After 40.

Registered dietitian nutritionists Tammy Lakatos Shames, RDN, CDN, and Lyssie Lakatos, RDN, CDN, known as The Nutrition Twins, agree that whole fruits trump those blended into smoothies. They warn that overloading a smoothie with too much fruit could turn your health drink into a calorie bomb. "Drinking your calories isn't as satisfying as when you eat the real food, and you end up eating more calories later in the day," they say.

As long as you are careful about the ingredients that go into your smoothie, and about the size of the portion you consume, fruit-based smoothies still can be part of an effective weight-loss strategy. The key is keeping track of the number of calories your ingredients contribute. To that end, it's helpful to shun high-calorie bananas and avocados and favor low-calorie, low-sugar fruits with a high-water content to provide sweetness without the heavy calorie load. Here are the fruits you should be adding to your smoothies, and for more on how to eat healthy, don't miss The #1 Best Juice to Drink Every Day, Says Science.

An apple is an ideal take-along snack. For one, it won't crush in your backpack the way grapes and berries can. And if you eat the skin, it is rich in fiber, which makes an apple a "low-GI" food. "GI" stands for glycemic index, a scale from 0 to 100 that shows how much a food will raise blood sugar within two hours of eating it. At a GI of 36, apples are pretty low. Eating an apple whole is the best way to reap its weight-loss benefits. But blending apple chunks in a smoothie isn't a bad second choice. A red delicious apple contains about 62 calories and 12 grams of natural sugar.

Blueberries contain more antioxidants than any other popular smoothie fruit. One called pterostilbene, which is similar to the resveratrol in grapes, has been shown to stimulate liver cells to help break down fat and cholesterol, according to USDA scientists. One cup of blueberries contains just 64 calories and 9.3 grams of sugars and a bushel full of nutrients, including fiber. You can't go wrong popping a handful in your daily smoothie or munching on them as a snack. The anthocyanins that give blueberries their deep blue color are powerful phytochemicals associated with better weight maintenance and reduced risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease, according to Advances in Nutrition.

Ripe, juicy cantaloupe is nearly 90% water and rich in dietary fiber, which makes it an ideal fruit for your weight-loss-promoting smoothie as long as you don't load up your shake with high-calorie add-ins, including nut butters. One cup of cantaloupe contains 12.6 grams of sugars and 60 calories, which isn't much for all of the nutrients, including beta-carotene, folate, vitamin C, and potassium you're getting.

If you haven't tried cherries in your smoothie, you're missing out; they're delicious. Just don't forget to pit them, first. Tart cherries in particular are a terrific weight-loss fruit because not only are they low in calories and sugar (a half-cup contains just 48 calories and 10 grams of sugar), but they are rich in antioxidant compounds called anthocyanins that combat the free radicals that contribute to various chronic inflammatory diseases related to obesity. A review of the health benefits of cherries in the journal Nutrients found that consumption of cherries reduced exercise-induced muscle soreness and loss of strength, blood pressure, and arthritis, improved sleep, and lowered very-low-density lipoprotein, the worst type of bad cholesterol, and triglycerides.

It's not the most popular smoothie fruit, but it's worth trying. Kiwi is a good source of fiber, delivering at least 3 grams of dietary fiber per serving, which can help lower the impact of the fruit's sugar on blood sugar. But don't peel the fruit; most of the fiber is found in the brown skin. Cut it into chunks and blend it well in a blender. Small studies suggest that regular consumption of kiwifruit can reduce body fat mass and lower blood pressure. A serving of kiwi contains 64 calories and 9 grams of sugars.

A 12-week study involving 91 obese patients demonstrated the potential for eating fresh grapefruit as a potent weight loss strategy. The research in the Journal of Medicinal Food showed that people who ate half of a fresh grapefruit before meals lost an average of 3.5 pounds in 12 weeks. The subjects' insulin response improved as well, the study found. So, if weight loss is your goal, you might try keeping halves of grapefruit at the ready at mealtimes. Another option: make a grapefruit-based smoothie for a meal replacement. A half-cup of grapefruit sections with juice contains just 37 calories and 8.5 grams of sugars.

Nature's candy is loaded with vitamin C for immune-system strength, and it's high in water content and fiber, making it a great fruit for weight maintenance. Strawberries have 49 calories, 7 grams of sugars and about 3 grams of fiber per 1 cup serving. Raspberries are even lower in sugar at just 2.6 grams per 57-calorie, -cup serving. They don't last long in the fridge so keep your freezer stocked with a bag. Frozen berries (strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries) are just as nutritious as fresh ones.6254a4d1642c605c54bf1cab17d50f1e

Watermelon is an example of a fruit that has a high glycemic index but is actually fine for people who are overweight or have high blood sugar because it is high in water content and fiber and low in carbohydrates. A 2019 study in the journal Nutrients compared overweight people who ate daily snacks of watermelon or low-fat cookies for four weeks. The researchers found that the watermelon made the subjects less hungry after eating and by the end of the trial decreased body weight, body mass index, blood pressure, and waist-to-hip ratio. A cup of watermelon delivers just 45 calories and about 9 grams of sugars. Check out these 8 Best Smoothie Recipes for Managing Blood Sugar.

Rebel Wilsons Most Empowering Advice About Her Weight Loss Journey: Its Never Too Late to Start Improving Yourself – Us Weekly

Posted: June 16, 2022 at 1:58 am

Sharing her insight. In early 2020, Rebel Wilson started a lifestyle change that helped her reach her goal weight which she has used to try to inspire others.

The actress documented the fitness journey that initially led to her losing more than 60 pounds by November 2020. After Wilson revealed that reached her goal weight of 165 pounds, a source exclusively told Us Weekly that the How to Be Single star was so proud of her weight loss and her body transformation.

Rebel flew past her goal weight and continued to work out after hitting that magic number, the insider detailed in February 2021 about her progress with the help of personal trainer Jono Castano. Rebel didnt only work out six days a week with Jono but would also do mini at-home workouts. Rebel clearly had a mission to lose weight and she did in spades. She feels stronger, more confident.

Wilson later opened up about the moment when she decided to explore her year of health.

It first started when I was looking into fertility stuff and the doctor was like, Well, youd have a much better chance if you were healthier, she shared during an Instagram Live video in July 2021. Thats kind of what started it, that if I lost some excess weight that it would give me a better chance for freezing eggs and having the eggs be a better quality. It wasnt even really myself, it was more thinking of a future mini-me, really.

One month later, the Bridesmaids star reflected on her decision to lose weight after a personal struggle. Okay so I know that I normally post flattering photos of myself but found this old photo in my emails and was like: whoa! she captioned a past photo of her with Novak Djokovic via Instagram in August 2021. I remember this was when I was at my most unhealthiest being overweight and indulging way too much with junk food. Using food to numb my emotions.

At the time, Wilson recalled how her relationship with her body changed amid a tragedy. My father had passed away of a heart attack and it was such a sad time. I didnt think highly of myself and wasnt valuing myself how I should have, she noted. Its interesting that Im still smiling and still trying to be active despite being in so much pain.

According to the Pitch Perfect star, she received surprising feedback from those closest to her as she started to lose weight.

I got a lot of pushback from my own team, actually, here in Hollywood, when I said, OK, Im going to do this year of health. I feel like Im really going to physically transform and change my life, she claimed during an interview on the BBC Breakfast morning show in December 2021. And they were like, Why? Why would you want to do that? Because I was earning millions of dollars being the funny fat girl and being that person.

Wilson noted that she focused on the view that she had of herself. I know what its like to be a woman who was essentially invisible to most people because of not being seen as traditionally, like, beautiful or whatever, she said. Its crazy to try and fit that. [Its] better to be the healthiest version [of yourself].

While celebrating her wellness accomplishments, Wilson also gushed about an exciting update in her dating life. I thought I was searching for a Disney Prince but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess #loveislove, she captioned an Instagram selfie of her and her girlfriend, Ramona Agruma, in June 2022.

Scroll down for everything Wilson has said about her weight loss:

Shady supplements: Weight loss pills are dangerous and ineffective, study warns – Study Finds

Posted: June 16, 2022 at 1:58 am

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. Weight loss supplements can be found in the health aisles of most grocery and drug stores, but do they really work? According to one recent, diet pills are a waste of money and could be dangerous.

Theyre marketed as being able to boost metabolism, burn fat and blunt appetite. However, there is a lack of strong evidence weight loss pills actually work, say scientists at the University of North Carolina. Perhaps more concerning is that misleading claims have the potential to harm patients, they warn.

The findings may alarm millions of women hoping to get beach body ready for the summer.

Our findings are important for clinicians, researchers and industry alike. They suggest the need for rigorous evaluation of products for weight loss. Only then can we produce data that allows clinicians to provide input and advice with a higher degree of certainty to our patients, says corresponding author John Batsis, a nutritionist at the university, in a statement.

There are hundreds of weight loss supplements in an industry worth billions. They range from cabbage and green tea extract to the shellfish sugar chitosan, guar gum and conjugated linoleic acid. One in three Americans trying to lose weight have used one, researchers note.

The analysis by The Obesity Society (TOS) reviewed hundreds of existing studies. Most showed users failed to shed the pounds. Batsis suggests manufacturers work with academics to design high quality clinical trials.

Patients often struggle to lose or maintain weight because therapies approved by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) are ineffective. It is also difficult to access healthcare professionals who provide treatments for obesity. The National Institutes of Healths Office of Dietary Supplements now evaluates information and stimulates and supports research.

TOS decided it was important to examine non-FDA therapies to guide its membership by pooling data on 315 randomized controlled trials. Only 52 were found to be at low risk of bias and sufficient to support efficacy. Of these, just 16 demonstrated significant before and after differences compared with dummy pills.

Weight loss ranged widely from 10.5 ounces to nearly 11 pounds, say researchers. TOS Clinical Committee, led by Dr Srividya Kidambi who co-authored the study, recommended doctors consider the findings when advising patients.

Public and private entities should provide adequate resources for obesity management. We call on regulatory authorities to critically examine the dietary supplement industry, including their role in promoting misleading claims and marketing products that have the potential to harm patients, adds Dr Kidambi, of the Medical College of Wisconsin.

The supplements tend to be prescribed by doctors, in combination with diet and exercise, to people who have a significant amount of weight to lose typically a BMI (body mass index) of 27 or higher, but some experts have called for them to be banned.

The study is published inObesity, in the flagship journal of The Obesity Society.

South West News Service writer Mark Waghorn contributed to this report.
