Why You Shouldn’t Lose Weight Too Fast… – HuffPost
Posted: September 5, 2017 at 6:42 am
Its a beautiful, sunny day here on Long Island, and despite it being a federal holiday (Labor Day) here in the States, Im still meeting with a couple of clients today. Unlike most people who absolutely hate their jobs and count the days until their next extended weekend, I genuinely enjoy my career, so I dont mind working on days like today. Outside of Thanksgiving and Christmas, Ill rarely turn down a client who requests to meet on days where most people are off:-)
Now then, lets discuss a fairly common goal that prospective new clients have with me. Well be on our strategy call reviewing their health questionnaire (to set yours up, go to http://www.weightlossbypete.com/strategy!), and well get to the section where theyve filled in their SMART goals. Normally, the goal is to lose a substantial amount of weight in a very short period of time.
Look, I get itYoure tired of feeling depressed, exhausted and fat all of the time, and you want to get as far away from those feelings as quickly as possible! If there werent any physical ramifications that came with that, then you can bet Id be another one of those fit pros selling you a bullshit Lose 30 lbs in 30 Days! program.
That being said, here are just a few of the many negative side effects losing a bunch of weight really quickly will provide you with:
3 Yo-yoing with your Weight, which puts unnecessary stress on your organs, and
4 No Knowledge of SUSTAINABLE eating and fitness practices to keep the weight off!
As Ramification #4 would suggest, when folks lose a considerable amount of weight in a very short period of time, they tend to do so in an unsustainable way, often via the application of an extremely low calorie diet coupled with insane amounts of exercise.
Now, I dont know about you, but I know that Im too busy to devote multiple hours a day to exercise, let alone the fact that my ability to function with hardly any food in my system is nonexistent! Food is fuel, so if youre looking to better your life while operating on empty, then my friend, youre truly going to struggle!!
The BEST rate to lose weight at, on average, is anywhere from 0.5 to two pounds per week. I can already hear the objections to this range, If I dont lose it really fast, then my motivation is going to wane! I cant work so hard all week and see just a couple of pounds (or less!) down on the scale
News Flash: The scale isnt everything! It just happens to be the easiest method of measuring progress on your weight loss journey.
Riddle me this: What are people going to notice first? Inches lost (and thus, your physical changes), body fat percentage reduction (also a physical change!), or the number of pounds lost? Most people wont notice youve lost any weight until youve lost a MINIMUM of 10 lbs, but if youre losing inches regularly and youre routinely reducing your body fat percentage, not only will your clothes fit better (or will you even have to potentially buy a newer, SMALLER wardrobe), but youll look and feel significantly better than before!
Some of my BEST success stories have come from people who didnt hit their short-term weight loss goals, but were more lean, toned, fit and energetic than theyd ever been at a weight 1020 lbs HIGHER than they anticipated they needed to get down to when we first started working together!! One busy mom finished off at 15 lbs HIGHER than she aimed for, but looked better than she ever had in her entire life!!!
One of the most common issues with weight loss, weight gain, and anything to do with weight is the cycle of yo-yoing. As a global society, weve gotten so good at losing weight, but so notoriously terrible at KEEPING IT OFF! If youre using a fad diet and/or workout program to get you results fast, I can assure you that youre not going to learn ANYTHING about what it takes to keep that weight off FOR GOOD!!
Unlike most people in the health and fitness space, I teach my clients high QUALITY nutrition, which will not only assist them in reaching their short-term weight loss goals, but will enable them to develop the healthy lifestyle habits necessary to keep the weight off PERMANENTLY! Outside of perhaps being a little more liberal with certain food and drink, NOTHING changes once youve reached your short-term goals!!
As someone whos lost 100 lbs and kept it off, I can tell you that good nutrition practices and consistent exercise habits are the KEY to never looking back at where you started from
So, if youre looking to make a healthy, sustainable and PERMANENT change, then you must learn to BE PATIENT and FORGIVING wit yourself! LEARN what needs to be done, instill those principles in your life, and youll be amazed at how EASY it is to keep the weight off 5, 10 and even 20 years down the road:-)
P.S. If youre READY to take that first step on your health and weight loss journey, then youre REALLY going to want to download my FREE report!
With 10 years of experience, SEVEN different fitness and nutrition certifications, and a sustained weight loss of 100 lbs., I think I know a thing or two about this Permanent Weight Loss thing;-)
This report will provide you with the five strategies I personally used to lose 100 lbs., and KEEP THEM OFF! These are the same five strategies I teach my Permanent Weight Loss clients, and are the basis to losing weight and getting healthy once and for all!

High school football notebook: Early losses in WCAC make No. 1 debate more interesting – Washington Post
Posted: September 5, 2017 at 6:41 am
This is the third installment of The Washington Posts high school football notebook series, which will publish twice weekly on Sunday and Thursday with news and analysis from around the region.
In this weeks notebook we coverSt. Johns, Gonzaga, Wise, Damascus, DeMatha, DuVal, Northwest, Champe, Howard, Severna Park, South Lakes, West Potomac andH.D. Woodson.
THE SNAP COUNT: A TOUGH OPENING TWO-WEEK STRETCHFOR THE WASHINGTON CATHOLIC ATHLETIC CONFERENCE OPENS THE DOOR FOR OTHER LOCAL POWERHOUSES.
DeMatha, St. Johns and Gonzaga all have losses. Wise and Damascus do not, and they have notlost a game in twoyears. How much should that matter in determining the D.C. areas top teams? A lot, actually.
Theres a significant chance No. 2 Wise and No. 4 Damascus could each run the table en route to state championships this season, the third in a row for each team. They are programs that have proved they can achieve repeated regional dominance and finish games.
This season, the WCAC powers cannot say the same, especially not about finishing games. Both DeMatha and St. Johns had second-half leads in nationally televised matchups against Bishop Gorman (Nev.) and De La Salle (Calif.), respectively. Both teams lost.
Gonzagas offense turned five takeaways into 38 points against Gilman (Baltimore) two weeks ago. This week, the Eagles couldnt find the end zone against Viera (Fla.), losing 21-6 to a team they beat last year in the Sunshine State.
[Gonzaga struggles on both sides of the ball in 21-6 loss to Florida powerhouse]
Damascus and Wise? Theyve won both their games by a combined 98-17. Wises starters only played a quarter and a half against Surrattsville. Damascus ran for 282 yards against Blake.
Comparing public school teams with private schools feels uneven in some ways, as the WCAC programs can offer need-based financial aid to student athletes (read: recruit). They can practice year-round in impressive facilities. Their competition over the first two weeks has likewise been far more impressive than that of Damascus and Wise.
But the talent gap between the WCAC powers and the top two public school teams isnt huge. Damascus has four Division I-bound offensive linemen. Wise is sending its starting safety to Florida State and has two more wide receivers and a cornerback who are Division I players, and its offensive line is about as big as DeMathas.
Its not time to anoint any team the new king of Washington-area football. But it is worth casting a wider net when considering the question, especially as years-long winning streaks continue, and there is no certainty that the regions No. 1 team at seasons end will come from the WCAC. DeMatha remains No. 1 in the Posts latest rankings, but the conferences early-season losses have opened the door for Damascus and Wise.
DeMATHAS RUNNING GAME STILL STRONG DESPITE INJURED STAR
The Stags will lean on their ground game all season long, Coach Elijah Brooks said after his teams 28-0 win over Avalon on Friday night, even after losing starting sophomore tailback Marshawn Lloyd in the season opener.
Lloyd broke his left wrist in a loss to Bishop Gorman. Against Avalon, Brooks turned to junior Myles Miree, who had 94 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.
You got to be able to run the ball against any team, Brooks said. And both Myles Miree, Seiah Bengurah and even D.J. Bulter came in and ran the ball extremely well. That was very promising.
Freshman Sieh Bangura also carried nine times for 37 yards and two touchdowns. Here he is on a stretch play for a solid gain.
Look for more of these kinds of runs out of DeMatha with Lloyd out for the year. Bangura gets outside here, but thats because the Stags devote a tackle and a tight end to sealing the edge, which is a pretty heavy personnel set. Miree and Bangura are smaller than Lloyd but run a bit more behind their pads than Lloyd, who likes to make moves in the open field.
DuVALS DUPREE TALKS A BIG GAME, THEN RUNS FOR 3 TDs
David Duprees goal for his senior season is as brash as his running style: The bruiser from DuVal wants to be known as the best running back in Maryland. He got off to a good start Saturday, rushing for 179 yards and three touchdowns in the Tigers 26-12 win over Northwestern.
I want to break all of the [state rushing records], he said. Rushing touchdowns, rushing yards. Me and Coach [Carlos Lockwood] talk about it all the time.
Hell need a steady diet of touches to do that. Lockwood says hes at his best running for chunks of five, six and seven yards. Dupree had 23 carries on Saturday.
He broke from that routine in one of his three touchdowns, a 43-yard fourth-quarter burst to put the finishing touches on a successful first week.
HAVE YOU BEEN KEEPING AN EYE ON NORTHWESTS JUWON FARRI?
Hes the guy who did this in the scrimmage a few weeks ago:
Hewas all over the field Friday as Northwest pieced together an impressive, 53-36 victory at Wootton, so much so that all of his contributions would take too long to list.
Some of the highlights: Farri took a kickoff return 95 yards to the house, toted the ball 15 times for 116 yards and two touchdowns, reeled in a 10-yard touchdown grab, snagged an interception on defense and kicked PATs to boot.
He had a great offseason, Coach Mike Neubeiser said. He had a great year last year, rushed for over 1,000 yards, and I think hes going to have a big year after the offseason he put in.
CHAMPES JUMP TO VIRGINIA CLASS 5 STARTS WITH BIG WIN
Before a workout last spring, Champe Coach Jason Dawson gathered his team to announce the upcoming schedule. With realignment from Class 4 to 5, the Knights expected to hear the names of new competition from within Loudoun County.
The surprise was in the nonconference schedule. For Week 2, Dawson said Centreville.
We knew Coach had emailed Westfield and Centreville to see if theyd schedule us, but we didnt know if schools like that would play us. Those are two of the top programs around. Everybody knows them, senior running back Carl Garmon III said. When we heard Centreville on the schedule, that was really exciting for us because we wanted to take on that challenge and show that we belong.
Champe belongs. The Knights beatthe 2013 6A state champions, 28-21. After posting 204 yards and five touchdowns against OConnell last week, Garmon carried the ball 41 times for 288 yards and four touchdowns on Friday night.
Heres a lengthy scoring run that helped put the game away.
HOWARD DEFENSE UP TO THE TASK AGAINST GLENELG
Howard Coach Ross Hannon made a point in the offseason of talking up the importance of the Lions 4-4 defensive scheme. Howard will use four down linemen and four linebackers in most sets.
The Lions linebackers, led by Ryan Kearney and Ben Stephanos, are so long and athletic, they can easily play pass defense, especially if Howard sits back in zone coverage. The whole scheme simplifies things a lot more than what other teams might run on defense, because coaches dont have to sub players in and out constantly to match an offenses alignment.
And Friday in a 34-0 trouncing of rival Glenelg, the Lions performance sang the praises of the 4-4 scheme. In short, it means Howard can put eight players on the field the size of a heavy safety, the kind of player whocan tackle a runner in space, shed a block, play pass defense or rush the quarterback. The Lions held Glenelgs famed running game to 120 total yards and star tailback Wande Owens to 44 yards on 18 carries.
I thought we played a great defensive scheme, Hannon said. Youre asking kids to lay it down for their teammates because the defensive tackles and the defensive ends arent making tackles but theyre getting penetration.
FINALLY, SEVERNA PARK OPENS WITH A WIN
Its not just that Severna Park hadnt earned a Week 1victory since 2012. The Falcons had repeatedly gotten clobbered to open the season, the optimism and excitement accompanying a new campaign crushed barely after it began.
So when junior quarterback Garrett Edwards found Josh Coffman in single coverage down the left sideline late in the fourth quarter and Coffman chugged all the way to the end zone to complete the 91-yard touchdown catch and clinch a marathon 49-48 win over North County on Friday, it felt like a new era for Severna Park football.
We have a lot of confidence going into Chesapeake, said Edwards, who threw for 231 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for two more scores in his first varsity start. Were not stepping off the gas.
SOUTH LAKES HAPPY TO KEEP RIDING WR/RB SPENCER ALSTON
Four-year starter Spencer Alston has been the focal point of the No. 8 South Lakes offense that has put up 42 points in both of its games. First he torched W.T. Woodson, running the ball for 77 yards on 10 carries and catching four passes for 102 yards. On Friday, Falls Church got more of the same. Alston had two carries for 49 yards and caught four passes for 145 yards.
He played the best Ive ever seen him play, Taylor said of Alstons performance against Falls Church. He worked hard in the weight room this summer, so now that combination of strength and speed is better than ever.
WEST POTOMACS HANDS TEAM SEALS WIN OVER LAKE BRADDOCK
Remember those two big rules changes the National Federation of State High School Associations made in the offseason? One of them banned blindside blocks, something pretty much everyone can agree on.
The other banned pop-up onside kicks, or kicks in which the kicker drives the ball immediately to the ground, the ball strikes the ground once and goes into the air in the manner of a ball kicked directly off the tee, the rule states.
Something like this is now illegal:
That change was relatively controversial, because it fundamentally alters the way a losing team can try to regain the ball for a last-second score. Our first example of that impact came in the final moments of West Potomacs 28-26 win over Lake Braddock.
The Bruins lined up for an onside kick, but now, according to the new rule, if the ball doesnt bounce at least twice before reaching eye level, its a five-yard penalty and West Potomac would get the ball.
So on Friday, Lake Braddock was forced into more of a squib kick. It sputtered off to the left side of the field and landed safely in the arms of a West Potomac player, giving the Wolverines their first victory over Lake Braddock since 2007.
H.D. WOODSON FEELING RIGHT AT HOME AGAINST OUT-OF-TOWN FOES
Coming off five consecutive D.C. Interscholastic Athletic Association championships, H.D. Woodson Coach Greg Fuller decided to take the Warriors on the road for their first couple of games.
No. 10 H.D. Woodson faced Haverford in Pennsylvania and came home with a resounding 44-12 victory on Saturday.
The competition is very good, said Fuller, who will take the team to face Ohio powerhouse St. Edward on Saturday. Thats what we need to measure ourselves.
Fuller said he was pleased with the play of both the running and receiving game, with Mychale Salahuddin and Noah Boykin leading the way, along with the quarterbacking of Khalil Wright. The coach will rely on that trio of seniors along with defensive tackle Kaylon Oliver and defensive back Vincent Flythe III for veteran leadership throughout the season.

Remember Kasim Hill? The St. Johns quarterback who threw for1,188 yards and ran for 606 more as a senior last year. Well, he anchored Maryland down the stretch for a huge road win at No. 23 Texas on Saturday.
Hill came in cold in relief of injured starterTyrrell Pigrome and was 3-for-3 passing for 44 yards, and ran for 14 yards and a game-clinching touchdown.
He was pretty good in high school, too. Check out his game tape.

(Lose up to 25 pounds in 2 monthsand look more radiant than everwith Prevention's new Younger In 8 Weeks plan!)
A study published in the Annals of Behavioral Medicine found that participants who made one small, potentially permanent change in their food choices and/or physical activity each week (such as drinking one fewer can of soda or walking 5 more minutes each day) lost more than twice as much belly fat, 2 more inches off their waistlines, and about 4 times more weight during a 4-month program, compared with those who followed traditional calorie-restriction and physical-activity guidelines.
"When you focus on just a couple of small changes at a time, you begin to ingrain some healthy habits that last for a lifetime, rather than trying an all-or-nothing approach that more often than not fails because it's too hard to follow," says Lesley Lutes, PhD, an assistant professor in the department of psychology at East Carolina University.
We've uncovered 15 simple steps (with proven results) that will show you exactly how to lose weight by helping you move more, eat less, and look and feel better than ever. Add just one or two a week to your regular routine and you can lose nearly 3 inches off your waistline and be about 10 pounds lighter in a few months. Even better: Once these healthy habits become second nature, they'll benefit you for a lifetime.

Four tips for losing weight, from adding vitamin B and omega 3 fats to your diet, to slower eating – South China Morning Post

Obesity and its related diseases are among todays most visible yet most neglected public health problems in Western countries. And rapid urbanisation in Asian countries and the adoption of Western lifestyles are setting the stage for an Asian obesity epidemic, too.
A behavioural risk factor survey conducted by Hong Kongs Centre for Health Protection in April showed that 38.8 per cent of the population aged from 18 to 64 were classified as being overweight or obese, with 20.7 per cent obese. More men (48.2 per cent) than women (30.5 per cent) were classified as overweight or obese. Nearly one in two Hongkongers aged 55 to 64 were overweight or obese.
According to the World Health Organisation, being overweight or obese can cause adverse effects on blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides and insulin resistance, all of which can increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and cancer.
Mortality rates increase with weight, as measured by body mass index (BMI, a measure of weight relative to height kg/m2). For Chinese adults in Hong Kong, a BMI from 23kg/m2 to 25kg/m2 is classified as overweight and 25kg/m2 or above is classified as obese. This is caused by a combination of increased availability, bigger portions, and more high-calorie foods.
So what can you do to reduce your risk of developing obesity related diseases?
Your weight depends on the number of calories you consume, how many you store, and how many you burn up. These factors are influenced by a combination of genes and the environment. Your metabolism and your food choices have an impact on your physiology. It is crucial that you make healthy lifestyle changes to help achieve and maintain your ideal weight.
While physical activity is important for your weight, mood and overall well-being, it might not always result in rapid weight loss. A successful change to your diet might.
In my experience as a nutritionist, dietary changes are especially important at the beginning of any new weight-loss plan. Some clients who dedicate hours to exercising each day sometimes get discouraged when the weight doesnt fall off.
A formerly overweight client managed to lose weight, keep it off and most importantly feel transformed with improved energy and mood by following a tailor-made, reduced-calorie meal plan consisting mainly of the key components suggested below.
By eliminating refined carbohydrates, sugar and gluten, she was able to pinpoint which foods got in the way of losing weight, and understand how certain foods affected her, physically and emotionally. Digestive issues such as bloating and constipation no longer affect her daily activities.
Focus on making gradual changes to your diet, such as eating more phytonutrient-rich vegetables, skipping calorific late-night snacks, and cutting back on refined carbohydrates.
You may have heard it many times eat lots of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein. The real challenge is changing your habits to make those healthy choices part of your everyday routine without feeling deprived or depressed.
Here are four practical dietary tips to shed weight while staying satisfied.
Eat your omega 3s
Not all fats are bad for you. While you should limit saturated and trans fats, unsaturated fats such as polyunsaturated omega 3 fats are healthy in moderation. Including small amounts of these fats as part of a reduced-calorie diet may help make your meals more satisfying and make losing weight easier, according to a study published in Appetite.
A review article published in Nutrients also noted that omega 3 fats might help with weight loss by reducing appetite and increasing fat burning, especially when combined with a reduced-calorie diet and exercise. Omega 3 fat is commonly found in fish such as mackerel, salmon, ocean trout and sardines. It can also be found in nuts and seeds, some of the best sources being flaxseeds and walnuts. Grab a nutty smoothie after your workout for a quick dose of waistline-friendly omega 3.
Load up on Vitamin B
B vitamins such as folate, vitamins B6 and B12 play an important role in helping your body metabolise nutrients (namely carbohydrates, protein and fat), converting the food you eat into energy, and helping with appetite control, which may be beneficial for weight loss.
Whole grains, poultry, eggs, beans and leafy greens are good sources of B vitamins. These foods are also generally lower in calories.
Good food, good mood
Microorganisms found in yogurt and other cultured foods such as miso, tempeh and fermented vegetables may help your bodys bacterial environment inside and out, thereby improving your digestion and absorption of food and nutrients, consequently assisting in weight loss.
Opt for protein-rich Greek yogurt, which helps you feel fuller longer and boosts your bodys energy expenditure. A healthy gut is key to your mood, as the gastrointestinal tract can activate neural pathways and central nervous system signalling systems in the brain.
Slow down and savour each bite
With hectic schedules, most time-poor Hongkongers eat way too quickly, and consume too many calories before realising we have eaten more than enough to satisfy our hunger. It takes about 20 minutes for the Im full signal sent by the gut hormones and stretch receptors in your stomach to reach your brain.
A feeling of fullness translates into eating less, thereby helping shed unwanted weight. Try stretching out your mealtimes by chewing a little longer than usual, putting down your fork or chopsticks between each bite, and taking small sips of water.
Not only does eating slowly and mindfully help you eat less, it also enhances the pleasure of the dining experience.

Dr. Nishant Rao Stresses the Importance of Moderate Weight Loss in the Fight Against Hypertension – GlobeNewswire (press release)
Posted: September 4, 2017 at 10:45 am
Jackson, MS, Sept. 04, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --
Jackson, MS - Nearly 85 million U.S. citizens have hypertension (high blood pressure). A normal blood pressure reading is 120 over 80, but high blood pressure (as a result of diet, lifestyle choices and stress) is higher than 140 over 90. Left untreated, hypertension can lead to cardiovascular problems. Dr. Nishant Rao, medical director at Diet Doc medical weight loss has lead his team to search for safe ways to effectively treat hypertension. Millions of Americans use Atenolol for hypertension, a medication that works well and has minimal side effects. He continued, The supply of this medication has suddenly decreased, leading many to try different medications with more side effects, or implement lifestyle changes to decrease the need and dependency for the medications.
The good news, is that numerous clinical trials have shown that as little as a 5-10 percent reduction in body weight can dramatically improve metabolic syndrome, type II diabetes and hypertension. Many people dont realize how little weight loss it takes to make a dramatic improvement in hypertension and then have the ability to use less drug intervention. Patients faced with the atenolol shortage can use this crossroads to lose fat efficiency, rapidly and directly improve outcomes for chronic disease. Diet Doc has created medically supervised programs which are free from all stimulants that cause hypertension, such as the commonly prescribed phentermine and other weight loss pills which are central nervous system stimulants. For an average patient weighing 180 lbs., this equates to a 9-18 lbs. weight loss to improve long term health outcomes, says Dr. Rao. This can be accomplished with rapid, medically supervised weight loss programs without the use of any stimulants. Diet Doc offers such programs via convenient, telemedicine-based doctor consultations and home shipments of safe weight loss medications that suppress appetite, control unhealthy eating habits and promote fast fat burning and regulate blood pressure levels.
With a team of doctors, nurses, nutritionists and motivational coaches, Diet Doc products help individuals lose weight fast and keep it off. Patients can get started immediately, with materials shipped directly to their home or office. They can also maintain weight loss in the long-term through weekly consultations, customized diet plans, motivational coaches and a powerful prescription program. With Diet Doc, the doctor is only a short phone call away and a fully dedicated team of qualified professionals is available 6 days per week to answer questions, address concerns and support patients.

Rebel Wilson weight loss: Pitch Perfect’s ‘Fat Amy’ shed the pounds doing THIS exercise – Express.co.uk
Posted: September 4, 2017 at 10:45 am
Rebel Wilson has recently been spotted out sporting a more svelte physique as she works on highly-anticipated new film, Isnt it Romantic, alongside Liam Hemsworth.
The 37-year-old Australian actress, best known for roles in Pitch Perfect and Bridesmaids, was seen filming in New York wearing a Pretty Woman-inspired red dress.
Famous for her curves, the stunning evening gown emphasised a trimmer frame.
However, this isnt the first time Rebel has wowed with her weight loss.
The star began shedding the pounds in April 2016 and first revealed the results of a healthier lifestyle at the wedding of her Pitch Perfect co-stars Anna Camp and Skylar Astin.
By the end of last year she announced she had lost almost 15kg.
She has credited hiking with helping her weight loss transformation.
In an Instagram post she wrote: OMG just finished 4 fantastic days at #TheRanch4.0so challenging but very rewarding! Not to mention I lost 8 pounds from marathon king over the four days!
Thanks to the amazing staff and masseuses (free daily massages are part of the program)!! Feeling great!!
Posts on the social media site also reveal her penchant for tennis and beach walks in her home town of Melbourne.
Despite slimming down, Rebel continues to be a poster girl for body confidence in curvier women.
Rebel told Cosmopolitan in 2015: Being unique and different was a really good thing.
I walked into my agent's office for the first time [in 2009], they looked at me and said, 'Wow, we have nobody on our books like you'. And they signed me on my second day here.
I wouldn't ever want to compete with what I call 'the glamours' the really gorgeous people. I'm about the brain, the heart and what's on the inside. I feel really lucky to be the body type I am."
Earlier this year she launched a plus-size clothing range, Rebel x Angels.

These bizarre weight loss shorts will ‘eat your skin’ – New Zealand Herald

From juice fasts to cling film wraps, there is a range of weird and wonderful techniques used by people trying to shift a few pounds.
The latest effort is possibly one of the strangest yet - weight loss shorts lined with a material that 'eats your skin' to help you lose weight.
The bizarre shorts cost $65, and its designers claim that wearing them will help you to shift up to 2.5cm from your legs in just two months.
The Mass & Slim Leggings were revealed by Lanaform at the IFA conference in Berlin today, reports the Daily Mail.
The shorts are lined with hundreds of beads made from Tourmaline - a crystalline mineral compounded with elements such as aluminium, iron, magnesium, sodium, lithium, or potassium.
A spokesperson for Lanaform told MailOnline: "The Tourmaline dots effectively eat your skin, helping you to lose weight quickly."

The shorts work in two main phases, according to Lanaform.
Immediately, they help to slim the thighs, hips and stomach, providing comfortable support.
And in the long term, the Tourmaline beads correct unfavourable areas.
The beads - which MailOnline can confirm are very rough on the skin - create friction, making the skin temperature, helping to improve circulation and fight cellulite.
Lanaform also says that the beads have a "micro-massage effect" on the skin, increasing the flow of both blood and lymph to the area.

After just two months of wearing the shorts, Lanaform says that women should expect to lose up to 3.2 centimetres on their stomach, and 2.3 centimetres on their thighs.
While you might think that the idea of fat-eating shorts is slightly terrifying, a survey of women trialling the shorts revealed that 90 per cent were satisified with the product.
The shorts, which only come in grey, are available worldwide, and cost $65.
The news comes after a major study earlier this week found that low-fat diets, adopted by many in their quest to lose weight, could increase the risk of an early death.
Global research of 135,000 people, by Canadian scientists, revealed that people who eat the least fat have the highest mortality rates.
The findings, presented at the world's largest heart conference, challenged decades of dietary advice which have focused on persuading people to cut fat.

With all the nutrition and weight-loss fads and tipsout there, it can be difficult to figure out whatactually works.A few central Ohiodietitians weigh into help youseparate fact from fiction:
Facts
1. To lose weight, you need to create a calorie deficit. This is best done through a combination of slightly decreasing calories and increasing activity.
2. Food records like My Fitness Pal or Lose It aregood tools to help you see how much you are eating and when.
3. Eating too little during the day can sabotage weight loss efforts by creating unmanageable increased hunger at night.
4. "Fad diets" are not the answer to achieving weight loss. If the diet calls for severely restricting calories oreliminating entire food groups,it's likely a fad diet. Though popular, these diets are often badforyouroverall health.
5. The simple saying "everything in moderation" still holds true.A diverse dietcomprised ofa variety of choices from each food group that stillallows you to indulge on occasion is best equipped to satisfy your needs nutritionally and psychologically.
6. Fitness Trackers that measure calories burned, such asones byFitbit and Garmin, are not for everyone. Most research shows that the visible benefits of these devices for weight loss arelimited and can even be counterproductive. If you usea tracker, try to avoid mentally exchanging calories burned through exercise for additional calories youconsume.
Fallacies
1. Eating fat makes us fat. Our bodies need some fat to burn fat. Focus on adding healthier fatssuch asavocados, nuts and seeds and olive oil into your diet.
2. You should not eat after early evening. Eating a snack after dinner and before bed is fine as long as it isnt half a gallon of ice cream or half a bag of potato chips. Try to eat a small snack that is around 100 to 200 calories and includessome protein. Greek yogurt, crackers and cheese, peanut butter or a banana are a few good choices. If you're eating ice cream oranother higher-calorie snack, pay attention to the portion, eat slowly and be sure to enjoy it.
3. Vegetarian diets are always the healthiest. The elimination of meat does not prevent you from choosing unhealthy meat-free foods and can add some challenges to meeting all of your nutritional needs. However, if someone is well informed and motivated, ahealthy vegetarian dietcan be achieved.
4. Poultry is always healthier than red meat. Though on average poultry tends to be leaner than red meat, this is not always the case. When looking at ground meats, always compare thelean-to-fat ratio between products. It's also important to be conscious of how the food is prepared and if additional fat is added through this process.
5. Carbohydrates should be avoided. Carbohydratescontain calories (as do fat, protein and alcohol) and consuming carbs in excess might hinder weight loss. However, carbs are the bodys primary source of energy, especially for the brain. The bigger issue lies in the fact that carb sources vary greatly in their nutritional value. Try to reflect on the sources of carbohydrate in your diet.
6. "Cleanses" are a healthy way to remove toxins from the body and lose weight. Your liver and kidneys are responsible for cleansing the body. Cleanses are only a temporary fix when it comes to weight loss, and pounds will quickly return when the cleanse is over.
7. Low-fat options are always healthier. Although low-fat foods can sometimes be a healthier option, they are often higher in sugar and carbohydrates. It is better to consume higher-fat foods in moderation.
