Weight loss: How to lose weight fast by adding THIS food to your diet plan – Express.co.uk
Posted: August 8, 2017 at 10:41 am
Luckily for those hoping to lose weight, it doesnt have to involve eating a strange diet food.
And there is no denying yourself either - something which is a common complaint of most weight loss meal plans.
Milton Stokes, R.D., author of Flat Belly Diet! For Men, revealed eating breakfast is essential for weight loss.
Explaining why, he told Mens Fitness: It's like putting logs on a wood-burning stove. You need that initial input of fuel to get your metabolism going for the day.
The aim should be to intake around 400-600 calories within an hour of waking up.
Stokes advised focusing on protein, healthy fats and fibre, as these will leave dieters feeling fuller for longer.
There are a few meals to try in the morning that cover all of these ideals.
Jorge Cruise, author of The Belly Fat Cure, advised eggs with avocado/
He said: Avocados are nature's ideal fruit for weight loss. They replace sugar with appetite-curbing good fat."
If you prefer a quick shake, then choose one with whey protein.
David Grotto, R.D., author of 101 Foods That Could Save Your Life said: Whey is rich in branched chain amino acids, which stimulate muscle growth.
The more muscle you have, the greater the fat-burning capacity of your metabolism.
Finally, a simple yoghurt topped with fresh fruit to make it interesting and sprinkled with high-fibre cereal is another option.
Dawn Jackson Blatner, R.D., author of The Flexitarian Diet, said: The fat in yogurt contains conjugated linoleic acid, which can help you stay lean.
She also said study after study shows a direct link between fibre and weight loss.
Losing weight is not all about diet - new research, conducted by the University of Leeds, has shown that adults who get six hours or less sleep a night, or have poor sleep patterns, are more likely to be overweight, obese and have poor metabolic health.
The study, led by Dr Laura Hardie, Reader in Molecular Epidemiology at the University of Leeds involved 1,615 adults who reported how long they slept and kept records of food intake.

If your legs look like THIS it’s harder to lose weight – Daily Star
Posted: August 8, 2017 at 10:41 am
GETTY
If you have thin legs you could bemetabolically unhealthy even if you're a lean person in general.
A persons metabolism is the process that breaks down food and turns it into energy.
When someone has a fast metabolism, they can lose weight easier than someone with a slow metabolism can.
But a new study has revealed that having less fat in the lower half of your body could be an indication of other health problems, even if you have a healthy BMI.
Positive weight gain snaps spread across social media with the hash tags #screwthescale and #gainingweightiscool. After using the MyProtein diet and healthy exercise.

Positive weight gain snaps spread across social media
People with lean legs are three times more likely to have cardiovascular disease compared to other people with a healthy weight.
Researchers hope that these findings will dispel the myth that having a low weight automatically means a person is healthy, when in reality thats not always the case.
The study also found that not all overweight people are metabolically unhealthy depite common assumptions.
During the study, researchers looked at medical information of 981 people with various body shapes and weights.
They found that 18% of the healthy weight participants were actually metabolically unhealthy, which was revealed by them having two or more metabolic health indicators.
This means that something could go wrong with their metabolic process and lead to metabolic syndrome.
Metabolic syndrome is a group of risk factors that raise your risk of heart disease and other health problems like stroke and diabetes.
In the slim participants, heaving a low amount of fat storage in the legs (having thin legs) meant these participants were most at risk of metabolic syndrome.
In general, researchers estimated that around 20% of normal weight people are metabolically unhealthy.

This is the diet Guy Sebastian did to look ripped on the cover of Men’s Health – NEWS.com.au

The ketogenic diet has gained popularity in recent years, with some claiming this way of eating can have incredible benefits to long-term health.
Former Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian says its the diet that helped him get shredded in eight weeks for his Mens Health Australia cover.
But what is a ketogenic diet, and does the evidence truly stack up to back up the claims? This is what you need to know, according to accredited practising dietitian Chloe McLeod.
Guy Sebastian and his wife Jules. Picture: Jason IeraceSource:Supplied
What is a ketogenic diet?
A ketogenic diet is a diet very low in carbohydrates and very high in fat. The reduction in the consumption of carbohydrates places the body in a state of ketosis, which is a metabolic state where fat provides most of the fuel the body requires to function.
What constitutes a diet thats low-carb and high-fat?
A standard ketogenic diet is usually comprised of approximately 20 per cent protein, 75 per cent fat, and 5 per cent carbohydrates, where approximately 10-50g of carbohydrates are consumed each day. When compared to a general healthy diet, the distribution is far more even, with approximately 20-30 per cent protein, 20-30 per cent fat and 30-40 per cent carbohydrates.
Who should do it?
Ketogenic diets are reportedly useful for weight management. When reducing carbohydrates, it is normal to see the number on the scales go down, due to the body losing water as a result of carbohydrate stores being used up. Fat and protein are also very satiating, meaning that it is possible you will feel fuller. This means potentially fewer calories are consumed, so weight loss is as a result of reduced calorie consumption, rather than the low-carb diet. That said there is some research which indicates that low carbohydrate diets can assist with weight loss, particularly in severely obese individuals.
Picture: Jason IeraceSource:Supplied
The cons?
Some of the claims of the efficacy of a ketogenic diet are overstated, particularly in relation to weight loss, increased lean mass and increased longevity. More high quality research is needed to support these claims.
Also, following this diet can be really difficult, particularly in the long-term. Fruit, grains, beans and legumes, starchy vegetables, most dairy, along with most processed foods need to be removed from the diet. This usually means that day to day eating needs to be highly structured and planned, and eating out and social arrangements can become much more difficult.
This lifestyle also means significantly less fibre and prebiotic foods going into the diet, which can have a negative impact on many aspects of health particularly in gut health. New research has shown a high-fat diet can change the balance of healthy bacteria in the gut, with potentially wide ranging effects on health, not to mention, an increased risk of constipation.
How to do it safely (if at all)
If someone needs to follow, or wants to try out a ketogenic diet, it is recommended to work with a dietitian who is skilled in this area to help ensure all nutrition needs are covered. Its also a good idea to have a chat with your GP, and get some blood tests done first to check key vitals before commencing.
Low carbohydrate, ketogenic diets may have some positive health benefits, but it is important to not view it as a cure-all as for most of us, it wont be.

Body & Mind Medical Weight Loss Center’s Jump Start to Health Program Delivers Visible Results With 10-Day … – PR Newswire (press release)
Posted: August 8, 2017 at 10:40 am
ONTARIO, Calif., Aug. 8, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- For those looking to quickly, safely lose weight and improve their health markets, Body & Mind Medical Weight Loss Center (http://www.bodyandmindontario.com/) offers the KE Diet as part of its innovative Jump Start to Health program. This medically supervised intervention has already helped patients achieve tremendous results; more information about the program is available by calling 844-695-4331.
"Burning fat is key to losing weight and reversing lifestyle diseases like hypertension and type 2 diabetes," says Dr. Tanya Scurry, founder and medical director of Body & Mind Medical Weight Loss Center, "and the KE Diet has proven to be the best and safest way to turbocharge the fat-burning process. That's why it's an important element of our Jump Start to Health program. At Body & Mind Medical Weight Loss Center, we're helping people embrace a better way of life."
The KE Diet is administered during the first 10 days of the Jump Start to Health program. Patients receive a complete education on the diet during their intake and throughout the program. Under local anesthesia, a small naso-gastric tube is inserted to continuously deliver a specially formulated feeding solution rich in protein and fat. An obesity medicine physician closely monitors the patient throughout the diet, with no less than three follow-up appointments. Lab tests before and during the KE Diet ensure patient safety by checking electrolyte levels, ketones and other important markers.
Originally developed in Italy, the KE Diet has helped hundreds of thousands of people lose significant amounts of weight in a short time. At Body & Mind Medical Weight Loss Center, a 56-year-old male with hypertension, high cholesterol and an increased amount of abdominal fat shed 22 pounds in only ten days.
The KE Diet works by forcing the body to burn fat rather than carbohydrates for energy. The feeding solution has zero carbs, which acts as a "hard reset" for the body. While carbs are an important part of a balanced diet, the standard American diet of today suffers from an excess of this macronutrient. Simple, highly palatable carbs are especially a problem. Many preventable health issues are a direct result of excess fat and obesity caused by carb-rich diets. The 12-week Jump Start to Health program offers the tools and resources to learn healthier food choices and eating habits.
To qualify for the KE Diet, patients must have a body mass index (BMI) over 30, or over 27 with a medical condition related to obesity sleep apnea, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, etc. Patients of normal weight but high body fat percentages (over 25 percent for men, 32 percent for women) may also participate.
Once the KE Diet portion of the Jump Start to Health program concludes, patients work with a registered dietitian to develop a personalized meal plan to sustain their progress and set them on a path for a lifetime of better health. Patients also receive a personal fitness assessment by a personal trainer. The goal, according to Dr. Scurry, is to be successful in fat loss, not just weight loss.
About Body & Mind Medical Weight Loss Center
Under the leadership of Dr. Tanya Scurry, the goal of Body & Mind Weight Loss Center is to provide a helping hand to those struggling with obesity, to provide an ear to listen to their pain, to lift them up in encouragement and support, and to provide a safe place for them to heal.

Ask the Anytime Gal: Are detoxification diets needed for weight loss? – Jacksonville Daily Progress
Posted: August 7, 2017 at 1:47 pm
QUESTION: I keep hearing about detoxification diets, and how they can help with weight loss and other health-related issues.
Im looking to jumpstart my own weight loss, so is this something I should consider?
ANSWER No -- you do not need to resort to detox diets to lose weight.
They might be popular right now, but in my humble opinion, theyre definitely not the answer youre looking for. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people that think detoxification is a reasonable path to take to better health.
So-called experts claim that detox diets can flush toxins from your body, strengthen your immune system, improve your skins complexion, and help you get rid of excess fat fast.
They even point to famous Hollywood starlets who, as we all know, are willing to try anything and everything to get the look.
Thankfully, most real experts, including doctors, dietitians, and trainers, agree that these regimens do more harm than good, often resulting in unpleasant, and sometimes dangerous, side effects.
These can include vitamin deficiencies, electrolyte abnormalities, blood sugar problems, excessive diarrhea, muscle breakdown, and a suppressed immune system.
Not bad for an overly restrictive liquid diet, huh?
Hopefully its not a surprise to you, but your body is perfectly capable of detoxifying itself, and it does an excellent job. Your kidneys, liver, lungs, skin, and several other organs all contribute to this process.
If you really want to lose weight, and do it in a healthy way, speak to a registered dietitian and/or certified personal trainer, so they can help you develop a safe and effective plan.

Overweight Children and Adults Get Significantly Healthier and Quickly With Less Sugar–Even If They Don’t Lose Weight – Markets Insider
Posted: August 7, 2017 at 1:43 pm
CHICAGO, Aug. 7, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Osteopathic physicians suggest shifting the conversation from weight to health for overweight children and adults, asking patients to reduce their sugar intake to see measurable improvements in metabolic function.
Improved measures of health can be seen in less than two weeks of sugar reduction, according to a review published in the August edition of The Journal of the American Osteopathic Association (JAOA).
Keeping the simple sugar fructose, particularly high-fructose corn syrup, off the menu can help avert health issues including obesity, fatty liver disease and type 2 diabetes. Fructose accelerates the conversion of sugar to fat, researchers noted. Their JAOA review summarized the results of several carefully controlled studies, finding a link between high consumption of sugar, in particular fructose, and increased fat synthesis in the liver.
"Fructose provides no nutritional value and isn't metabolized in the brain. Your body converts it to fat, but doesn't recognize that you've eaten, so the hunger doesn't go away," explains Tyree Winters, DO, an osteopathic pediatrician focused on childhood obesity. "Many young patients tell me they're always hungry, which makes sense because what they're eating isn't helping their bodies function."
Overfed and undernourished
The JAOA review identified fructose as a particularly damaging type of simple sugar. Compared to glucose, which metabolizes 20 percent in the liver and 80 percent throughout the rest of the body, fructose is 90 percent metabolized in the liver and converts to fat up to 18.9 times faster than glucose.
HFCS is found in 75 percent of packaged foods and drinks, mainly because it is cheaper and 20 percent sweeter than raw sugar. Fructose turns on the metabolic pathways that converts it to fat and stores it in the body, adding weight. At the same time, the brain thinks the body is starving and becomes lethargic and less inclined to exercise.
"If we cut out the HFCS and make way for food that the body can properly metabolize, the hunger and sugar cravings fade. At the same time, patients are getting healthier without dieting or counting calories," Dr. Winters says. "This one change has the potential to prevent serious diseases and help restore health."
Fighting back
Once people have put on a significant amount of weight and developed eating habits that rely on packaged and processed foods with HFCS, change can be daunting. Historically, physicians have told patients to restructure their diet and start exercising heavily, with a plan to check back after a month or more. That approach rarely works, as seen by the ever-growing obesity epidemic.
Instead, Dr. Winters suggests checking blood work about two weeks after patients agree to begin limiting their sugar intake to help patients see clear benefits for their effort.
"That single change in diet improves metabolic results in less than two weeks. Imagine the power of doing a 'before and after' comparison with a patient, so they can see for themselves that their health is improving. Seeing those results, instead of just stepping on a scale, can motivate them to keep going," Dr. Winters explains.
AboutThe Journal of the American Osteopathic AssociationThe Journal of the American Osteopathic Association (JAOA)is the official scientific publication of the American Osteopathic Association. Edited by Robert Orenstein, DO, it is the premier scholarly peer-reviewed publication of the osteopathic medical profession. TheJAOA's mission is to advance medicine through the publication of peer-reviewed osteopathic research.

Forget diet and exercise these TWO simple tricks can make belly fat ‘drop off’ – Daily Star
Posted: August 7, 2017 at 1:43 pm
GETTY
When it comes to losing weight, the internet can offer a myriad of tips and tricks but what it really comes down to is eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly.
But now a health expert has revealed that you could really see the weight "drop off" if you do two extra things.
Jane Hodgson, from food supplement retailer Skinnysprinkles.com,said that practicing portion control and avoiding snacking are the two key ingredients to successful weight loss.
High-protein, low-carbohydrate diets are all the rage right now and for good reason. Protein is an important component of every cell in the body. Hair and nails are mostly made of protein and your body uses protein to build and repair tissues.
1 / 11
She revealed: Make sure that you familiarise yourself with the exact quantities of different foods that make up a portion and once you realise how little an amount it is youll wonder how you ever managed to eat such large servings before.
Youll wonder how you ever managed to eat such large servings before
Nowadays there are plenty of gadgets that help you work out the exact quantities of food you need for each meal, but if you prefer to measure your food the old-fashioned way then learning how to estimate serving sizes can be an equally good solution.
If you feel you need a helping hand, our food supplement Skinny Sprinkles will help you control your portion size and avoid the pitfall that is snacking.
"Get on top of these two and the weight should drop off.
If youre new to portion control, here are seven top tips for getting started:
1. Measure accurately
It might seem time-consuming to correctly measure out the exact millilitres of oil or a portion of pasta by tablespoon, but its still the most accurate way to work out your serving size.
2. Use your hands
Measuring portion size against your hands is a quick and precise alternative to using weighing scales.
For example, a portion of meat or poultry is roughly the size of your palm, a slice of cheese should be the size of two thumbs and a portion of fruit should fit into your fist.
3. Use small plates
Overeating can often be attributed to the size of the plate you are serving on, as the larger the surface the more likely you are to try and fill it.
Smaller plates will make your meals appear larger, helping you to reduce excessively big portions.
4. Stick to the 20-minute rule
If you still feel hungry after eating, make sure to leave at least 20 minutes for your food to settle before going back for seconds.
This will give you time to digest the food youve already eaten and should help put a stop to any feelings of hunger.
5. Gauge when youre full
Making sure you dont overeat means making sure you dont eat until youre full.
Try to gauge when you are feeling about 70-80% full and then stop, otherwise youll end up gorging on far more than your recommended number of portions.
6. Meal-prep for accurate portion size
Preparing your lunch and dinners in advance allows you to measure out an appropriate portion size for each meal, saving you from the temptation to cook excessive amounts of food when it comes to eating.
7. Dont skip meals
Skipping meals will only serve to make you feel hungrier once you do decide to eat.

Weight loss plan: What is the F45 challenge? FREE diet promises results in eight weeks – Express.co.uk
Posted: August 6, 2017 at 11:42 am
Weight loss plan F45 claims it can change your body in just eight weeks, taking you to lean and toned in just two months.
The diet plan, which calls itself revolutionary, involves diet plans and advice, daily meal plans, and an app where you can track your progress.
Whats more, the Australian fad claims to be entirely free.
So are these claims too good to be true, or could Britons benefit from the diet plan hailing from Down Under?
The nine images show Australians who took before and after images - and the results are startling. F45, short for Functional 45, actually combines a number of the latest fitness fads to help devotees achieve maximum fitness.
It uses a mix of High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), Circuit Training, and Functional Training - designed to build muscle through everyday movements. F45 was founded in 2014, and now has 500 studios in Australia.
Jonathan Hawkins, Fitness Advisor at Discount Supplements, told Epxress.co.uk: "F45 is the latest craze to sweep the fitness world. It combines high-intensity interval training (HIIT) with healthy eating, to produce quick weight loss results.
"The system is made up of a combination of 15 exercises, performed in two 45-second sets (with two 15-second rest periods) and a timed water break in the middle of the circuit.
"The exercises are paired with a diet plan, designed to reduce water weight, and keep your sugar cravings at bay. The plan strengths lie in the timings, as the circuits are so fast and so intense, you dont have time to waste, so it feels like its over before you know it.
The company releases 45-minute workouts that fans follow, which is similar to the popular cross fit craze.
There are also strict meal plans designed to help the body get lean.
A standard daily meal plan during the challenge involves scrambled eggs for breakfast, a protein shake, courgette with bolognese and fish and letils for dinner.
According to reports the work out plan is used by Hugh Jackman and Nicole Richie.
While little can be done currently to prove or disprove the effectiveness of the workout, scientific studies seem to suggest that the HIIT style of exercise does aid weight loss.
A paper from The Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness studying the effects of HITT on overweight women found tangible results and concluded that HIIT program is an effective measure for the treatment of young women who are overweight.
Currently, the plan is only available in the UK in London.
Carolyn Hartz, author of Sugar-Free Baking, recently revealed the secret to her slender and ageless appearance.
The 70-year-old Australian has wowed the public with her youthful appearance.

The General Motors diet: Is it worth it? – The Express Tribune
Posted: August 6, 2017 at 11:41 am
This year, the diet-du-jour is the newly-revivedGeneral Motorsdiet, which claims to help people shed seven kilos in just seven days. Now doesnt that sound good!
As with most crash diets, it probably is good at least, in the beginning. But experts unanimously keep crying out against the damaging effects fad diets like this have on the body in the long term.
The concept of the General Motors diet, named after the employees who developed it in the 1980s, is that you consume different food groups on different days. On day one, you have to fruit-load, eating only water-based fruits such as melon. You mightbegin day two with a baked potato and some. The days to follow will be similarly exclusive variations on fruit/veg groupings with the gradual induction of lean meats.
Awareness can help reduce infant, maternal mortality rates
Some reports of weight loss have been successful. Most dieters lose significant amounts of weight in the first three days. But nutritionists are wary of the controversial quick-fix diet, reported The Independent. Trends may help you quickly lose weight but not fat, leading Harley Street nutritionistRhiannon Lambertsaid. The weight comes back after veering from the given rules of any diet. And the GM Diet is no different. Some may be drawn to it because they may feel out of control around food and want to stick to a rigid plan. Yet, after breaking one of the diet rules, they will feel guilty and ashamed, and may then start another diet which leads to a vicious cycle.
The shame that dieters often associate with breaking rules can in turn lead to further weight gain as they binge on unhealthy foods theyve been craving and depriving themselves of, Lambert added.
Eating a limited number of types of foods every day is simply a type of calorie restriction and the reduced carbohydrate intake will explain the relatively quick weight loss and water weight is a lot of it. Embracing a wide variety of foods should be encouraged but not at the expense of eliminating whole food groups at any one time, the soon-to-be nutrition author explained.
Citrus fruits: a great source of vitamins and forex
Dietician Jo Travers agrees: the apparent success of the GM diet is purely due to basic caloric deprivation rather than sustainable dieting. While the GM diet does have a mix of nutrients over the course of the week, your body needs most nutrients every day, she said. By restricting protein for the first few days, you will force your body to break down muscle in order to release amino acids for making new cells, hormones, enzymes and neurotransmitters. Although this does make you lose weight, this is muscle weight, not fat weight.
Travers continued, Its quite an attractive idea that if you just do this one prescriptive thing for a week you will lose weight, but in practice, its much harder to follow then most people think and will often result in less weight loss than was promised followed by rapid weight regain once normal eating is resumed.
To maintain weight loss in the long term, Lambert suggests finding a routine of eating and exercising that one enjoys. Once youve found your happy place, you will find it sustainable. Remember, the best new healthy diet for you is the one you can stick to in the long run, she said.
