‘World’s Fattest Woman’ Headed to India on Special Plane for Weight Loss Surgery – Heat Street

Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty, the worlds fattest woman will travel from her home in Egypt this weekend to a special facility in Mumbai, India, for life-saving weight reduction surgery.
Abd El Aty, 36, who has not left her home in more than 25 years, will fly on a specially designed Airbus plane, custom modified to help her 1,092 pound body make the international journey.
A team of ten people from the Saifee Hospital in Mumbai have been in Egypt for several weeks, helping to prepare the woman for the journey, and to make the transition from home to plane to hospital as comfortable as possible.
The womans family says the surgery, which doctors offered to do free of charge, is likely the only option to save Abd El Atys life. She has been incredibly obese since birth, when her family says she was diagnosed with elephantiasis, an incurable condition that swells her limbs and renders her immobile.
In childhood, Abd El Aty suffered a stroke, which set off a domino effect of ailments. She has hypertension, high blood pressure, diabetes and sleep apnea, all of which could prove fatal.
Abd El Atys family has been trying for years to get a visa to India and convince an airline to fly Eman to the specialty bariatric surgery clinic in Mumbai, which is supposed to be one of the best in the world. Fearing that she might die on the way, airlines repeatedly turned the family down, until doctors at the clinic said theyd sponsor herjourney.
Once in Mumbai, Eman will have part of her stomach removed, hopefully triggering a major weight loss. Eman will leave Egypt this weekend and arrive in India on Monday.

However, the truth is that no amount of alcohol has been proven to be safe during pregnancy. Those who choose to drink while pregnant are risking low birth weight, preterm birth, and fetal alcohol syndrome. There is also the issue of the way an individual woman's body may process alcohol. Each woman has varying amounts of an enzyme in her body tasked with breaking down alcohol. David Garry, DO, chair of the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders Task Force for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, told webmd.com, "If a pregnant woman with low levels of this enzyme drinks, her baby may be more susceptible to harm because the alcohol may circulate in her body for a longer period." Bottom line: No amount of alcohol is safe, so it's best to avoid it completely.

500 kg Egyptian woman Eman Ahmed reaches Mumbai for surgery – Hindustan Times

36-year-old Eman Ahmed, possibly the heaviest woman in the world at 500kg arrived in Mumbai on the wee hours of Saturday. A special crane was used by the hospital to carry her bed inside the structure, prepared according her treatment needs.
The modified Airbus 300-600 of Egyptair landed on 4.10am as scheduled. Eman, along with her sister exited from gate number 5, which is a cargo section of the international airport. Officials then loaded the specially designed bed of Eman on an open truck which was escorted by an ambulance and police van to Saifee Hospital.
Doctors from the hospital said that Emans journey took five hours to reach Mumbai from her hometown in Egypt and no medical complications occured during the flight. Two doctors had accompanied Eman from Egypt to India.
Top officials including Egyptian consulate general Ahmed Khalil were present at the spot until Eman was safely admitted in the hospital. Considering her special requirements a crane was called to lift her bed to the first floor of the hospital to a social facility, especially designed for treatment and surgical interventions of Eman. The bed had hooks on all sides so that it could be lifted with the help of sturdy ropes.
Officials from the hospital said that Eman was safely admitted in the hospital and soon an extensive line of treatment that is slated to continue for next six months including several surgeries will start. The hospital will be treating Eman for free for both the treatment and surgeries.

Someone worked hard to lose weight. They went down pounds on the scale and sizes in their clothes. They looked great until they took their clothes off. Their skin didnt exactly bounce back. Have you heard of this happening?
Fear of loose skin is a commonly cited reason overweight people arent motivated to slim down. Take this real message-board post as proof:
i am so afraid of what im going to look like once i lose this weight. when i lose the weight my skin is just going to look like draping. so nervous and find it depressing. i know im going to need tons of plastic surgery.
Granted, Id choose skin that looks like draping over diabetes, heart attacks, limited mobility and other side-effects of obesity any day, but loose, saggy skin is a bummer nonetheless.
The amount of loose skin that remains after weight loss varies by individual. Not everyones skin sags afterwards, and it depends on several factors: total weight gained and lost, age, total muscle mass and genetics.
If youre considering losing weight, here are also a few tips and tricks that will prevent/ limit the amount of loose, saggy skin youre left with. I call them the four Ss
Stay strong
Maintaining or increasing muscle tissue is a major key in minimizing loose skin. Loose skin occurs when the underlying layers of tissue shrink under a larger surface area. If muscle mass is lost in addition to fat, it creates an even larger void under your skins surface. In contrast, increasing lean tissue fills the area underneath the skin, keeping it taut. To stay strong, eat a high-protein diet and incorporate strength training into your exercise routine.
Slow and steady
Losing weight slowly (one to two pounds per week) is one of the most important things you can do to prevent loose skin. Wanting to lose weight as quickly as possible is understandable, but it doesnt give the skin time to adjust to the weight loss. Slow weight loss also plays in to the stay strong aspect of loose skin when you loose weight quickly, youre likely losing fat and muscle.
Scrub
Gently brushing your skin with a soft, boar-bristle brush before you shower will increase the circulation in your skin (and feel great). This increased circulation will bring nutrients to the skin and improve the quality of collagen and elastin, which will improve the skins ability to bounce back.
Supplement
When dieting, supplement with vitamins C, A, E and K as well as the B-complex vitamins. These vitamins are all important to skin health. Choose a formula that includes minerals as well. Selenium, copper and zinc are minerals that are vital to healthy skin. Some vitamins formulated specifically for skin health and beauty will also include nutrients like alpha-lipoic acid, DMEA, MSM and hyaluronic acid.

Khloe Kardashian was back again in tonight's all-new episode of Revenge Body With Khloe Kardashian to guide two women on their journeys toward finding self-confidence and self-worth.
First, there was Tiffany Morgan, who was hurting after her husband left her out of the blue. "I still think he's the right guy," she told Khloe. "He just doesn't think I'm the right girl anymore." It was clear she still had hope for reconciliation. "I think you need to start seeing what a dope, gorgeous person you are," Khloe said. "I just want you to have the same experience as I've had."
Khloe teamed Tiffany up with celebrity trainer Lacey Stone, who was able to help her transform physically, mentally and emotionally. Within 12 weeks, Tiffany dropped 26 pounds and finally had the strength to remove her wedding ring and confront her ex for the first time in months at her reveal.
"I would never want back into that relationship," she said after their meeting. "I still love him, but I'm not in love with him anymore."
Then, there was Jamie Lamb, who consistently turned to food for emotional comfort whenever she was feeling down. She admitted she wanted to get revenge on her "cuddy buddy" Kenya, who was holding back on pursuing a relationship with her because of her weight.
Khloe paired Jamie with personal trainer Simone De La Rue, who whipped her into shape with dance-based workouts. Jamie started off slowly and struggled to make process at the beginning. But once she fully committed, she was able to drop 60 pounds in 12 weeks!

At her big reveal, Jamie's confidence was through the roof as she made her grand entrance in a fierce, giraffe catsuit. She didn't even care that Kenya was a no-show. "Now, I realize I deserve more," she said. "There are a million fish in the sea who would themselves some of me!"

New Study Suggests Eating Whole Grains Can Aid Weight Loss – ABC News

Switching from a diet of refined to whole grains may help to achieve weight loss goals and bolster health, according to a new study published Wednesday.
The findings, released in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, suggest that eating whole grains is connected with an increase in calorie loss because it boosts metabolism and reduces the amount of calories that are retained during digestion.
"This study helps to quantify how whole grains and fiber work to benefit weight management, and lend credibility to previously reported associations between increased whole grains and fiber consumption, lower body weight and better health," said Phil J. Karl, the lead author of the study and a nutrition scientist at the U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine, in a statement.
Whole grain foods -- which include wheat, rice, oat and barley products -- are the type of food that includes the outermost, nutrient-rich layer of grains. Often, this fiber heavy layer is removed during the refining process.
"Theres basically three components [in whole grain foods]," Dr. Jennifer Ashton, ABC News' chief women's health correspondent, said today on "Good Morning America." "Theres the bran, the germ and then something called the endosperm, thats where you have the fiber, the antioxidants, the vitamins."
"[In] refined grains, most of that is stripped away," said Ashton, who was not involved in the study. "Basically, thats the difference, youre getting fiber and nutrients in whole grains."
For the study, researchers recorded the weight, metabolic rate, blood glucose, fecal calories, hunger and fullness for 81 participants over an eight week period. After an initial period of two weeks where all participants were given the same foods, the researchers fed some of the participants a diet with whole grains and some a diet with refined grains. The study was conducted at the Energy Metabolism Laboratory at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging (HNRCA)at Tufts University.
According to a statement released by Tufts University announcing the study, the scientists found that those who ate whole grain foods burned an extra 100 calories per day because of their increased resting metabolic rate and greater fecal losses when compared to the group that ate mostly refined grains. The extra calories lost by the whole grain eaters equaled the calories burned in a brisk walk or a small cookie, according to the study's author.
The study had one caveat: it did not compare the grain eaters to a group that avoided grains completely, according to Ashton.
"But head-to-head, refined versus whole, the whole grains did better," she said.
Ashton recommends paying close attention to labels when incorporating whole grains into your diet. She also recommends choosing brown foods and looking for foods high in fiber.
"Sometimes whole grains can be deceiving but youll never do wrong if you look at the labels first," she said.

If you want to lose weightand get into shape, some gyms are now offering high-tech, 3D body scanners to help you track your progress.
A few months ago, musical theater actress Sarah Loman came to TMPL gym in New York City to see if a new approach could help.
Shes struggled with her weight and wants to make major changes to her body. Im in a career path where its all about how you look, she told CBS News.
TMPL and dozens of other high-end fitness centers around the country are now offering this 3D scanning technology. A special camera takes hundreds of body measurements from how much muscle you have to where youre storing more fat. The scanner then creates a 3D computer model of its subject in less than minute.

The technology was first used in the world of fashion, so tailors could get precise measurements.
Clients at TMPL gym also fill out an extensive health survey.
That informs us as to how to exercise, eat, possibly supplements to correct whatever is going on with the metabolism so we can make changes in that body composition, said gym owner David Barton.
The computer-generated images can be compared over time to show exactly how a persons physique is changing.
The noticeable progress helps keep Loman motivated. You see the number on the scale, but the number on the scale doesnt break down how much of that is muscle, how much of that is water weight, how much of that is body fat, she said.
In about four months of dieting and exercise, she lost 30 pounds and gained three pounds of muscle.
