Weight loss: what is the fat burner drip Gemma Collins uses and is it safe? – The Sun

Posted: February 10, 2020 at 7:47 am

JUST last year she claimed 250 Skinny Jabs had helped her lose an impressive two stone.

But now Gemma Collins has turned to another controversial weight loss method in a bid to blitz her body fat - and look more like Khloe Kardashian.

5

The reality TV star got hooked up to a 'fat burner drip' at close pal Dawn Ward's salon this weekend.

Taking to Dawn's Instagram Stories, Gemma talked fans through what she was doing, saying: "Now, as you know I am on a mission to lose some pounds and look like Khloe Kardashian.

"I am on the fat burner plus which is an IV drip, it gives you energy.

"In these winter months we lack energy, once spring comes we get that step back in us."

However, fans were left wondering how exactly the 'fat burner drip' works and if it's really safe - here we answer those questions for you...

5

The 'fat burner drip' the GC was using is from a non-surgical clinic based in Cheshire called We Are Skulpt.

It's an intravenous drip called IntraVita that pumps different micronutrients, vitamins and minerals, including vitamins B1, B12, galactose and taurine into your blood.

The company claims that by doing this it not only gets vitamins into your body, but also speeds up your metabolism.

As Gemma's therapist, who gave her the product, told her in Dawn's Instagram story: "It'll boost your immune system, it'll boost your energy but also it detoxifies your liver and it boosts your metabolism so that's why it's a good fat burner."

5

We Are Skulpt also say the treatment is "scientifically proven", adding: "The Fat Burner aids healthy weight loss, speeding up your metabolism and helping you burn more fat. Ultimately becoming a healthier you."

Despite this, the IntraVita website adds that the IV drip only aids weight loss if combined with a diet plan and exercise.

Patients are only allowed to have the treatment every one to two weeks.

While the company Gemma uses say the fat burner drip will speed up weight loss, top medical experts have said there is "no evidence" to suggest vitamin drips help you lose weight.

Dr Sarah Jarvis, GP and clinical director ofpatient.info, said: "There has been a huge surge in the number of people seeking quick fixes for weight loss.

"This latest product appears to be a combination of vitamins and amino acids, which are the building blocks of proteins.

5

"There is absolutely no evidence that taking a vitamin supplement will help you lose weight."

Dr Jarvis says there are only two medicines that are legally available in the UK to help with weight loss - Orlistat and Saxenda.

She adds: "Orlistat capsules reduce the amount of fat you absorb from your gut. Saxenda is given as an injection, and contains a medicine developed for people with type 2 diabetes.

"There are no other drugs available legally which have any evidence at all for weight loss."

Dr Jarvis says high dose vitamin injections could be dangerous.

She says: "I would never suggest anyone has high dose vitamin injections unless, for instance, they have a condition like pernicious anaemia.

"This can lead to severe anaemia due to lack of vitamin B12, because your body cannot absorb it.

"For people without a medical condition diagnosed by their doctor, high dose vitamin injections are not helpful and could be dangerous.

"In the small print of the website for this product, it admits that their product is classed as IV nutrients that are used for supplementation purposes only and not to treat any medical conditions."

It comes after Gemma's 250 skinny jabs faced a backlash from medical professionals - who said they should only be used by people who are obese or "significantly overweight."

Doctors similarly claimed the jabs have side effects including sickness and diarrhoea.

Posted: February 10, 2020 at 7:47 am

Being overweight not only shatters your self-confidence but also leaves you feeling lethargic and uneasy, all the time. 24-year-old Tanya Narwani realised that she needed to do something about her growing weight if she wanted her confidence back. That was the moment she decided to adopt a healthy lifestyle to get back in shape. Her weight loss transformation is a living, breathing example that anything is possible if you put your heart into it.Name: Tanya NarwaniOccupation: Tax Consultant

Age: 24 yearsHeight: 5 feet 4 inches

City: Hyderabad

Highest weight: 67 kgs

Current weight: 50 kgsWeight loss: 17 kgs

Duration it took me to lose weight: 1 year 8 months

The turning point: I have always liked dressing up to the nines and wear good clothes. This is why it was really heartbreaking for me when I could no longer fit into the clothes of my choice and could not even buy the beautiful dresses displayed in the shops.

I realised the weight had taken a toll on my confidence levels and the way I approached my life. I needed to lose weight and get back in shape to lead my life to the fullest. This is why I decided to take matters in my own hand and take charge of my health.

My breakfast: I have a handful of almonds and walnuts with three glasses of water in the morning. For my breakfast, I keep switching between poha, white omelette, idli sambar and a glass of freshly squeezed pomegranate juice without sugar.

My lunch: Plain dosa, Idli sambar or uttapam My dinner: I have made it a point to eat my dinner by 8 pm, no matter what. I have two chapatis, a portion of vegetables, a bowl of dal and curd.

Fitness secrets I unveiled: I have realised that you do not really need to hit the gym every day to lose weight, you just have to choose to be physically active every day to lose weight. For example, I make it a point to walk for an hour every single day, without fail.

Low-calorie recipes I swear by: Makhanas (foxnuts) are one of the best options of snacking and they are incredibly tasty as well.

Whats the most difficult part of being overweight? One of the worst aspects of being overweight is realising that your favourite clothes have stopped fitting you. I do not really pay heed to what others have to say about my weight or body, but when I could no longer wear the dresses of my choice, I was really heartbroken.

What are the lifestyle changes you made? I made a couple of lifestyle changes and made it a point to follow them strictly. It completely changed my life:

2.I eat healthily and think healthy

3.I have made it a point to walk for an hour daily and it has done wonders to my body.

Island woman to have ‘awkward’ excess skin removed after weight-loss surgery – CBC.ca

Posted: February 10, 2020 at 7:47 am

Rachel Matheson is hoping to feel "at home" in her own body after she was left with excess skin following weight-loss surgery two years ago.

The 29-year-old, who grew up on P.E.I. but now lives in Toronto, says she felt "fat and weird" growing up and was bullied for it. While diverse body types are a "little more hip now," she says that wasn't the case in the early 2000s.

But that's all in the past now.

"Honestly, at this point in my life, I am doing it for myself."

Matheson had Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in December 2017. According to the Mayo Clinic, the weight loss surgery is one of the most common types of bariatric surgery, and is performed when diet and exercise haven't worked. Matheson's surgery was covered under the Ontario Health Insurance Plan.

She says the surgery was recommended by a Toronto weight-loss clinic she visited in 2016 after suffering from years of mobility issues and undergoing a hip replacement in 2009.

"They suggested weight-loss surgery. I was always kind of happy with my weight, but I wasn't feeling that great physically, so I became open to it."

Matheson has since lost around 165 pounds. While some may view surgery as the easy way out, shedoesn't see it that way.

"I don't know in what universe cutting yourself open is an easy option," she said. "It's not, like, a super easy option by any means."

And she urges anyone considering weight-loss surgery to consider all their options first.

"For me nothing else had really worked," she said. "I tried dieting and all the unhealthy stuff you can do to your body and for me, this has been the healthiest approach to weight loss I have done in my life. It has kind of helped me learn moderation."

But her journey isn't over. She now has to live with the excess skin left behind after the substantial weight loss.

"I still have similar insecurities as I did when I was bigger," she said."With the excess skin on me, it's hard to see how much work I have put into my body with 20 extra pounds of excess skin."

She calls it "awkward all around" and physically uncomfortable.

"Fitting into clothes is awkward. Parts of my body will fit into a certain size then I'll have basically like 20 pounds of skin I have to roll up," she said.

"I tuck it in. I get a sturdy pair of granny panties and high-waisted jeans, keep it secure."

Matheson says she's spoken with others who have undergone the skin removal surgery, and is hopeful it will help her overcome some of her own body image issues.

"Anyone I know who has gotten the surgery has said it has changed their life so much for the better, so I'm just excited to see how that feels."

Dr. Stefan Hofer, the head of the plastic surgery division at Toronto's University Health Network, said there are many areas on the body where people can have excess skin, and each one requires a different type of procedure.

But most often people requiring surgery have excess skin around their abdomen like Matheson, which requires an abdominoplasty.

"An abdominoplasty actually contours the entire ... lower part of the abdomen. It is a very extensive procedure," he said.

"Usually with all the weight loss, the muscles have separated ... so you kind of bring the muscles back to the midline so people have normal core strength and can exercise."

Hofer said patients who lose a large amount of weight have to keep their weight down for six months before they're eligible for skin removal surgery.

Matheson's skin removal surgery is partially covered by OHIP, but she says it's going to cost her about $4,000 to $5,000 out of pocket. Her surgery is currently scheduled for March 13.

Hofer said some skin removal surgeries aren't covered because they're considered cosmetic, as in Matheson's case, but he believes the complications that can arise from having excess skin like the sores that can be caused by chafing make it a real health concern.

The recovery time from the surgery is estimated to take about six weeks.

Matheson, a full-time student studying media relations, is worried about missing class during that recovery period. She was accepted to her program after the surgery was already booked.

"From what I hear the first couple weeks are pretty brutal," she said. "I'm probably going to have to take a week or two off mid-semester,which should be interesting."

Matheson is also a comedian, and says talking about the journey on stage has helped her wrestle with some of those fears.

"I'm pretty scared to get this surgery, but being able to talk about it on stage definitely is like a weirdly therapeutic outlet for me."

She hopes that being so open about her own journey might be helpful to others.

"That's the best type of laugh you can get, someone who actually relates to what you are saying."

Matheson said her friends and family are supportive and excited for what her future holds.

"They have kind of been there through a lot of my ups and downs with my body and ups and downs with my health," she said. "They're just excited I am kind of on an upward momentum."

Matheson is hosting a comedy fundraiser in Toronto in addition to an online fundraiser in an effort to help cover the cost of her surgery.

‘A light in the tragedy’: Papillion girl’s organs save four lives – Omaha World-Herald

Posted: February 10, 2020 at 7:45 am

Abby Whitford was so full of life.

Sarah Whitford has taken some comfort, though, in knowing that parts of her daughter live on.

Through organ donation, Abby was able to save four other lives. Five of her organs her kidneys, liver, intestine and heart went to four recipients after her death.

The decision to donate Abbys organs just clicked.

I dont know if it was fate, if it was God or Abby, Whitford said. It was the first thing on my mind.

About 113,000 people are waiting for a lifesaving organ in the United States, said Kyle Herber, president and CEO of Live On Nebraska. Nearly 450 of those individuals are in Nebraska, he said.

Live On Nebraska, a local nonprofit, is an organ procurement organization working to recover organs and tissues for transplantation.

We really feel that organ donation is that one final act that someone can give to save anothers life and really leave that lasting legacy, Herber said.

Its not something parents think about, Whitford said, but they knew it was the right choice. It extended the familys stay in the hospital as they tracked matching donors on a whiteboard in the room.

If she cant use these, something good has to come of this, Whitford said. (Four) people were able to live or have a better quality of life due to one tragedy.

The Whitford family learned that Abbys organs would go to two young boys, a young adult and a grandpa. Whitford explained the process to Abbys younger brother Ben like this: Now two Abbys have their Bens.

No matter the age of the person youre losing, its hard to think about, Whitford said. It really has brought me a light in the tragedy. Theres been some hopefulness to come from Abigails death.

Abby was fiercely independent and unapologetically herself, Whitford said. She was a good sister to her brothers Connor, 14, and Ben, 7.

Abbys generous spirit shined at school. She passed out handmade cards to her classmates. Whitford thought Abby was losing jewelry or clothing at school. It turns out Abby would give the pieces to her friends if they said they liked it.

Abby made time to connect with younger students, too. She once checked in on a first-grade buddy to make sure his first day of school went well.

Abby would be high-fiving her organ donor recipients.

She would just think it was the coolest thing, Whitford said. I picture her up there in heaven, the happiest she can be.

Oliver Henderson plays first base waiting for some action. Without a left hand Henderson is able to adapt to the world of baseball.

Libby DiBiase runs in a 14-pound vest during a workout at CrossFit Kinesis in Gretna. This Omaha police officer uses CrossFit to keep in shape for her unpredictable job.

Jeff Strufing enjoys being able to help people during group classes at Kosama. Despite his cancer diagnosis, Strufing hasnt let it change his lifestyle. The 46-year-old business owner, husband and father of two still works part-time as a paramedic and teaches weekly classes at three gyms. Hes done it all while undergoing chemotherapy treatments.

Margie Irfan practices bicep curls during her workout at Life Time Fitness. Iftan entered the world of bodybuilding when she was 46 years old. The Omaha woman has lost 10 percent of her body fat while maintaining the same weight and shes got the toned muscles to prove it.

Jack Mallett practices his tennis skills at Miracle Hill tennis courts. After deciding to quit drinking Mallett, 92, made tennis his addiction.

Michelle Graft runs on the Wabash Trace in Council Bluffs to train for her portion of the MS Run the US relay. Gaft who has MS uses running to keep the symptoms at bay.

Mary Manhart works out at the Downtown YMCA four times a week. She sees the people at the gym as her extended family.

Hadeel Haider started to exercise after being treated forHodgkin's lymphoma, andshe fell in love with Zumba. Haider now teaches Zumba class at the the Maple Street YMCA.

Nancy Nygren works out at least three times a week to help keep off more than 65 pounds that she lost a decade ago. Shes the perfect example of somebody who has lost a significant amount of weight and has done it the right way, said Jennifer Yee, who leads Nygrens boot camp class and is also an instructor in Creighton Universitys exercise science program.

Tom Carney does a workout during kickboxing class. Carney used to work out so he could eat whatever he wanted. Now he understands diet is just as important as exercise.

Rik Zortman runs the name of children who have died of cancer. He has ran the name of more than 250 children since his son's death in 2009.

Katie Chipman, a 12-year-old gymnast with juvenile arthritis, practices at Airborne Academy. Chipman works to hard to compete and only misses practices if her symptoms are too severe.

Joe Reisdorff and Dan Masters grew up in the same town, attending the same church were never close untilReisdorff needed a new kidney and Masters was a match.

Jacob Oswald forgot he signed up to be a bone marrow donor until he got a call saying he was a potential match for a Nebraska baby. He went through with the procedure and more than a year later, met with recipient Alle Jilg.

A workplace accident left Leah Nixon paralyzed from the armpits down. As had to work on becoming more independent, she also worked on reconnecting with an old love: outdoor adventures.

Still recovering from a heart transplant, Rick Ganem wouldn't be able to make it to his daughter Sarah's wedding. So she brought the ceremony to his hospital room.

Since starting her weight-loss journey, Keasha Hawkins-Moore is closing in on dropping half of her starting weight 500 pounds. During that journey, she's battled cancer, lost loved ones and strengthened her faith.

Leota "Lee" Brown suffered a stroke and two days later, the 98-year-old was back to her spunky self at home in an assisted-living facility. She's required no therapy since the stroke.

Harley Swanek had been living with an undetected heart condition for the first seven months of her life. It caused her to become unresponsive for more than 30 minutes, leading to a brain injury. Harley's back home and relearning all of her milestones.

Is Mentiga Corporation Berhad (KLSE:MENTIGA) A Risky Investment? – Simply Wall St

Posted: February 10, 2020 at 7:45 am

Legendary fund manager Li Lu (who Charlie Munger backed) once said, The biggest investment risk is not the volatility of prices, but whether you will suffer a permanent loss of capital. When we think about how risky a company is, we always like to look at its use of debt, since debt overload can lead to ruin. As with many other companies Mentiga Corporation Berhad (KLSE:MENTIGA) makes use of debt. But should shareholders be worried about its use of debt?

Debt is a tool to help businesses grow, but if a business is incapable of paying off its lenders, then it exists at their mercy. Ultimately, if the company cant fulfill its legal obligations to repay debt, shareholders could walk away with nothing. However, a more common (but still painful) scenario is that it has to raise new equity capital at a low price, thus permanently diluting shareholders. Of course, plenty of companies use debt to fund growth, without any negative consequences. The first thing to do when considering how much debt a business uses is to look at its cash and debt together.

See our latest analysis for Mentiga Corporation Berhad

You can click the graphic below for the historical numbers, but it shows that as of September 2019 Mentiga Corporation Berhad had RM24.0m of debt, an increase on RM19.6m, over one year. However, it does have RM2.62m in cash offsetting this, leading to net debt of about RM21.3m.

Zooming in on the latest balance sheet data, we can see that Mentiga Corporation Berhad had liabilities of RM22.0m due within 12 months and liabilities of RM59.5m due beyond that. Offsetting this, it had RM2.62m in cash and RM932.0k in receivables that were due within 12 months. So its liabilities outweigh the sum of its cash and (near-term) receivables by RM78.0m.

The deficiency here weighs heavily on the RM35.0m company itself, as if a child were struggling under the weight of an enormous back-pack full of books, his sports gear, and a trumpet. So we definitely think shareholders need to watch this one closely. After all, Mentiga Corporation Berhad would likely require a major re-capitalisation if it had to pay its creditors today. When analysing debt levels, the balance sheet is the obvious place to start. But you cant view debt in total isolation; since Mentiga Corporation Berhad will need earnings to service that debt. So if youre keen to discover more about its earnings, it might be worth checking out this graph of its long term earnings trend.

In the last year Mentiga Corporation Berhad had negative earnings before interest and tax, and actually shrunk its revenue by 43%, to RM9.8m. To be frank that doesnt bode well.

While Mentiga Corporation Berhads falling revenue is about as heartwarming as a wet blanket, arguably its earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) loss is even less appealing. To be specific the EBIT loss came in at RM2.6m. Considering that alongside the liabilities mentioned above make us nervous about the company. It would need to improve its operations quickly for us to be interested in it. Not least because it burned through RM6.2m in negative free cash flow over the last year. So suffice it to say we consider the stock to be risky. When analysing debt levels, the balance sheet is the obvious place to start. However, not all investment risk resides within the balance sheet far from it. Be aware that Mentiga Corporation Berhad is showing 3 warning signs in our investment analysis , and 2 of those cant be ignored

Of course, if youre the type of investor who prefers buying stocks without the burden of debt, then dont hesitate to discover our exclusive list of net cash growth stocks, today.

It does not constitute a recommendation to buy or sell any stock, and does not take account of your objectives, or your financial situation. Simply Wall St has no position in the stocks mentioned.

We aim to bring you long-term focused research analysis driven by fundamental data. Note that our analysis may not factor in the latest price-sensitive company announcements or qualitative material. Thank you for reading.

On a plant-based diet, youll focus on eating whole or non-processed foods and plants like vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, seeds, and nuts.

Psst:Its not the same as vegan. I could go on & on about this, but I dont want to confuse you, because it is VERY CONFUSING!

Youll see & hear people refer to the plant-based diet as vegan a lot. But they arent the same.

Vegans dont eat any animal products: no meat, no dairy, no eggs, no honey-because it originated from a conscious being. Sounds healthy until you think about what a vegan can eat.

Technically, a vegan can eat Oreos & French Fries all day since they did not come from or use any animal product.

Now, this isnt the case on a plant-based diet.

A plant-based diet is similar to vegan in that they both avoid animal products, but a plant-based diet takes it a step further and excludes all processed foods and fast foods-even the ones that are technically considered vegan.

So no Oreos & Fries for you.

Why is any of this important? You need to know about the differences in these diets because when you are searching for cookbooks or recipes, this 411 will put you ahead of the game. And, you need to know what you can & cannot eat! (More on that later)

Your Parents Probably Tried These Old-School Diet Tips

It might be fun to try on your moms old jeans or brush off your dads old record player, but were begging you leave their rusty old diet tricks in the past. Youll suffer more than just a cold kick of nostalgia if you try to live by any of these old-school food rules.

Back before people knew anything about healthy fats, antioxidants, or protein, people were really just stumbling blindly through unsubstantiated diet advice and weight loss tips. Though many of the diet regimens on this list were endorsed by doctors and experts, few (if any) were supported by science or evidence.

But that didnt stop people from attempting these wacky fads and trends. Have you ever heard of the sexy pineapple diet? What about the diet where you can eat as much sugar as you want? (That one actually doesnt sound half bad...)

From the cabbage soup diet to strict detox cleanses, people tried anything and everything they could to shed weight as quickly as possible. Here are some of the most popular (though often misguided) weight loss tips from your parents dieting days.

The Drinking Mans Diet

Liquid lunch, anyone? The 1964 pamphlet The Drinking Mans Diet touted a weight-loss method that involved drinking as much alcohol as you want and almost zero carbs otherwise. The booklet advertised the diet as the best way to lose weight with a minimum of willpower, which sounds accurate so long as you dont drunkenly decide to eat an entire plate of nachos at the bar. The regimen was also recommended for teetotalers, which is confusing. But contrary to the modern opinion, the Drinking Mans Diet characterized alcohol calories as good calories, while all other calories from food were bad. If youve ever tried drinking on an empty stomach, you know why this diet is a bad idea.

The Israeli Army Diet

This odd but surprisingly popular 1970s-era diet has nothing at all to do with the Israeli Army though it does require some soldiering through. The Israeli Army Diet is an eight-day trudge during which youre only allowed one type of food per day. On days one and two, you eat only apples. Three and four you eat cheese, after which you eat two days of chicken and two days of salad. All those foods are fine and good, but wouldnt you rather eat a nutritious meal that includes all of them? This apple chicken salad should do the trick.

Trick Your Man Into Losing Weight

Here at last is the book which shows how, using stealth, subterfuge, trick and treat, you can painlessly save the man you love from unsightly and unhealthy pounds, advertised the description of a popular 1980s diet book, How to Take 20 Pounds Off Your Man. Apparently, the sly tactics detailed in this book were subtle enough to melt pounds off your hubby without him even noticing. The cover claims you can really surprise him with a svelte new body his! What man wouldnt love that?
