Draft budgets and constitutional reform in focus as Japanese Diet gets set to open Jan. 20 – The Japan Times

Posted: January 12, 2020 at 3:43 am

The Diet will convene on Jan. 20 for a 150-day regular session that will put priority on early passage of draft budgets for the current and next fiscal years, government officials said Friday.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will deliver his policy speech on the first day of the Diet session, which will last through June 17, along with the foreign, finance and economy ministers. The Cabinet approved the schedule Friday.

The speeches will be followed by questioning by ruling and opposition party leaders in both houses from Jan. 22 to 24.

Abe has been increasing his calls for an active debate on constitutional reform, a long-held goal of the prime minister and his Liberal Democratic Party.

But the outlook remains uncertain as opposition lawmakers are set to grill the government over its handling of guest lists for an annual publicly funded cherry blossom viewing party at the center of a campaign scandal as well as a casino-bribery scandal involving LDP lawmakers.

The governments Maritime Self-Defense Force dispatch to the Middle East for an intelligence-gathering mission is also expected to come under intense scrutiny amid U.S.-Iran tensions.

Paleolithic diet may not have been that ‘paleo’, scientists say – The Guardian

Posted: January 12, 2020 at 3:43 am

In a blow to gym vloggers who pretend to be scientists everywhere, the paleo diet may not be all that paleo. According to a new study, humans were eating carbs up to 170,000 years ago.

The paleo diet is based on the assumption that modern farming and agricultural practices dont match up to what the human body was made to digest. It therefore cuts out many carbohydrates: legumes, pulses, grains and even white potatoes, depending on what kind of paleo you are.

Paleo enthusiasts suggest we should return to the eating patterns of our ancestors in the Paleolithic period (spanning from about 2.5m years ago to the end of the last Ice Age, around 9,600 BCE), which usually means eating mostly meat, fish, nuts and vegetables.

But scientists from the Evolutionary Studies Institute (ESI) at Wits University in Johannesburg recently found evidence that southern Africans were cooking starchy plants hundreds of thousands of years ago. (In case youre wondering whether a starchy plant really is a carb, the charred remnants of the plant they found is nicknamed the African potato.)

This is not the first time such evidence has arisen: previous studies have shown that our ancestors were eating starchy grains over a million years ago. There is also a body of evidence showing that humans didnt necessarily evolve to eat meat.

Then again, proponents of the paleo diet call their ideology theoretical in nature and wide for interpretation, so that information probably doesnt matter too much.

The [paleo notion] of following these very specific, restrictive guidelines really doesnt hold weight, says Meredith Price, a registered dietitian from New York. There is no scientific proof this was the way we ate, because it wasnt.

Price says there are many benefits to eating whole grains, legumes and other things restricted by the paleo diet such as good heart health and reduced risk of cancer and diabetes. Although there are ways to get the nutrients found in these carbohydrates elsewhere, she asks, whats the point in making it so difficult?

We are talking about a group of people who did not live past the age of 35, says Price.

Of course, a movement trying to limit the refined, sugary, processed foods we are fed in abundance shouldnt be vilified we all agree those are bad for us. But Price emphasises that many of the benefits touted by the paleo diet seem to be about cutting out sugars and processed food rather than healthy carbs such as grains.

And while a minority of paleo enthusiasts argue that carbs are not at odds with their diet, its hard not to think of the diet as little more than reimagined carb-phobia. Maybe the best indication of this is the beef within the paleo community over the humble potato. Paleo extremists will tell you potatoes are forbidden, and argue that: Paleo is all about eating only those foods that people living the pre-agricultural age could have eaten.

Seeing as potatoes were first domesticated between 8,000 and 5,000 BC, this seems like bad science but then again, what about basing a modern diet on the proposed practices of cavemen doesnt?

Broncos RB Phillip Lindsay aims to ‘eat cleaner this year’ – Broncos Wire

Posted: January 12, 2020 at 3:43 am

Immediately after the Broncos 2019 season ended, running back Phillip Lindsay started thinking about how he can improve this offseason to go into the 2020 season with a better body.

Im going to go and get healed up, Lindsay said on Dec. 30. Then Im going to start my plan for next year with my dieting and everything and go from there.

Lindsay (5-8, 190 pounds) has gained 2,485 yards from scrimmage and has scored 17 touchdowns since signing with Denver as a college free agent out of Colorado in 2018. He plans to tweak his diet this offseason.

I think Im going to take a couple things out of my diet and see if it helps me out just in general, Lindsay said. I just want to eat cleaner this year coming up and thats throughout the offseason. Honestly, its harder to eat clean during the season because youre getting banged up and hit so much.

Im just trying to stay consistent with what I do and go from there.

Lindsay has missed just one game over the last two years and he is yet to fumble in the NFL. The running backs new diet will aim to help him stay healthy and productive going into next season.

Lewis Hamilton Urges the World to Move to Vegan Diet After Australian Bush Fires Disaster – Essentially Sports

Posted: January 12, 2020 at 3:43 am

It is a well-established fact that 6-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton is a firm supporter of veganism. So, he uses every opportunity to try and convince his fans to adopt a plant-based diet.

Earlier this year Australia was rocked by catastrophic bushfires and parts of the continent continue to burn. So, he pleaded with his fans to not only aid in Australias efforts to recover, but to save the environment by going vegan.

The Mercedes driver regularly uses his platform to advocate for veganism and stresses on the need to save the environment. In the wake of the devastation, he expressed his sympathy for everyone in Australia and then posted a series of stories about the impact of animal agriculture on the environment.

Grazing livestock is responsible for 54 percent of Australias land use. Urban usage is less than 0.18 percent. Eight percent is conservation, read one post, which credited the Australian Government, Department of Agriculture and Water Resources.

Lewis Hamilton also referred to an Oxford University study that supported the vegan diet and its positive impact. According to it, the diet is supposed to be the best way to reduce a persons negative impact on planet Earth. It affects, not only greenhouse gases, but also global acidification, eutrophication, land use, and water use.

Aside from Hamilton, the likes of Daniel Ricciardo and numerous celebrities pleaded with the publics about Australias plight. They also made sure to donate to various charities to help tackle the fires.

The situation in Australia is so dire that it is believed that more than one billion animals are now feared dead in the blazes. Infernoes have also ravaged more than 2,000 homes, and more than 30,000 square miles, across New South Wales and Victoria killing an estimated 27 people.

In response to the disaster, a fundraiser was set up to help those affected. Reportedly, it raised more than $20 million Australian dollars in 48 hours to help tackle the fire.

Weight loss: Expert reveals the best fat-busting foods to banish belly fat fast – Express

Posted: January 12, 2020 at 3:42 am

As always, diet can play a big part in reducing excess weight, whatever area of your body.

According to Terri-Ann, there are other factors that could be at play when it comes to belly fat. These include:

Menopause: As we age our metabolism slows down and our total body fat percentage starts to increase as a result, she said. Body fat distribution also changes with age, which could, unfortunately, mean more weight around your tummy area.

Stress: This can cause body fat around your middle. Exposure to cortisol, a hormone produced in response to stress, has been found by several studies to lead to an accumulation of fat around the stomach area, she added.

Bloating: This could be making your stomach appear larger than it actually is, she said. Drinking lots of water, doing exercise and ensuring youre eating a diet filled with foods rich in fibre such as whole grains, fruit and vegetables can help avoid constipation and stomach problems, which often lead to excess stomach bloating, she explained.

The Remember the Titans and My Name Is Earl star has been posting photos on Instagramand is also speaking about his journey on his new podcast American Glutton.

In the premiere episode earlier this week, the 43-year-old explains that he had a very complicated relationship with food at an early age.

MARK WAHLBERG SHOWS OFF 6-MONTH BODY TRANSFORMATION AND FANS ARE STUNNED: UNBELIEVABLE

I guess the first diet I was ever on, I was 5 years old I went to visit my grandparents in Vermont and they were kind of shocked at the state of me, Suplee recalled. Now, back then this was like late-70s, early-80s the fat version of me at 5 years old was probably closerto what the average is today, but back then it was startling So they weighed me and they were just shocked. I have no idea what the numbers were but their response was not good and they started limiting my food.

He continued: Ilearned really quickly that if I wanted a second helping of lasagna when I cleared my plate, I had to eat it in the kitchen without them seeing, that I was not supposed to have that second helping of lasagna.

I was also made to walk every day which was exercise, which I hated. I did not like being put on this forced march every morning, Suplee added.

By the time he was 10, Suplee said he weighed over 200 pounds, and his father put him on a liquid diet, but his mother took him off, and he had a big upsurge of weight gain.

During his adulthood,Suplee dieted on-and-offfor years, experimenting with different ones.

I lost a sload of weight. I went from 530 to, at my lowest, 220, Suplee said. At 220, I was very, very thin.

However, he said due to his weight loss he definitely struggled with work. At some point I was like, Well f, Im just gonna get fat again because maybe itll be better for work, he said. And honestly, it was.

Kelly Brook shows off her two stone weight loss and says shes a size sexy in new diet campaign – The Sun

Posted: January 12, 2020 at 3:42 am

KELLY Brook showed off her two stone weight loss in a slinky black dress and declared she's now "size sexy".

The 40-year-old model is fronting SlimFast's ICANJAN campaign to encourage people to kickstart their year by losing weight.

6

She said: "Losing weight is not about reaching a specific weight or dress size. Its about finding the happiest version of myself.

"The SlimFast plan has helped me to rediscover by best self. Ive truly found my size sexy."

In November Kelly told The Sun how she decided to slim down after a bank of photographers at a premiere yelled at her to breathe in.

Well, Im glad they told me! she laughed. They actually thought they were doing me a favour, but yeah, it was a bit of a shock.

6

6

But they knew me as skinny, and all of a sudden Id turned up with bigger boobs, a bigger bum, bigger arms just a lot bigger, so I think it was a shock for them as well!

Kelly had crept up to a size 16, thanks to enjoying the slower pace of life in Kent, regular hearty pub lunches and finally feeling settled in her personal life.

But nevertheless, that red carpet experience proved a wake-up call.

It dawned on me then that even though I felt the same, I was obviously bigger and maybe I should do something about it, she said.

6

6

Since then, Kelly has made several lifestyle changes, losing 2st and going down to a size 12.

She previously said: Although Ive lost weight on my SlimFast journey, Im still not the thinnest Ive ever been in my life. But nor would I ever want to go back there, because some of my thinnest times were also my saddest.

Kelly joined the slimming programme in October 2018 after revealing she felt uncomfortable in her favourite skinny jeans and bodycon dresses.

She said at the time: Its about getting to the best version of me and I feel on top of the world thanks to SlimFast.

Ive tried losing weight in the past, but I found other plans hard to stick to, boring and lacking in taste."

Kelly told how boyfriend Jeremy Parisi called her a "balloon" after she piled on the pounds.

She said: "My boyfriend said I looked like a little balloon, it wasnt just trolls it was him as well.

"I told my mum (Sandra Kelly) she should stop drinking once and she said you should stop eating.

"My family are quite real with me, Im not living in some dream world. It was pretty apparent everyone was like what are you going to do about it?"You can be a little bit podgy but it was like laziness for me, so I was like OK I need to figure this out."

Ahn Jae Hong Says He Was Embarrassed By Attention He Received After Losing Weight For A Role – soompi

Posted: January 12, 2020 at 3:42 am

Ahn Jae Hong recently sat down for an interview to promote his new comedy film, We Wont Hurt You (literal translation).

During the interview, he was asked aboutwhether he had gone on a diet recently. He responded, It was just something I did for the role. He further explained that he wanted to get rid of hissofter, cuter image to embrace the desperate, edgy character of Tae Soo for the film, and lost about 10 kilograms (about 22 pounds).

He went on, A lot of people ask me about my weight loss and it makes me cringe. I cant talk about it anymore. Like other people, I lost weight in a healthy way by controlling what I ate and exercising. It was just part of the normal preparations to get into character. With every new production and every new character, there is an image you need to fulfill. Thats just part of your job.

He continued, Tae Soo is a very different character from the characters Ive played before. Thats why I was ambitious to play him. He has a sensitive nature and longs desperately for something. He has a strong sense of purpose as well as an inferiority complex, and I wanted that to show in his external appearance as well.

He concluded that he is not particularly invested in dieting currently. I am maintaining my weight, and its embarrassing that people are saying I lost weight when I didnt even lose that much. If I take on a character that has more weight, then I will probably gain it back really fast. If necessary, I think I could lose more as well.

WeWont Hurt You is a film based on a webtoon about a lawyer who unexpectedly becomes the director of a failing zoo and orders the employees to pretend to be the animalsthat were sold and sent away.

At Slimming World we encourage our members to make simple swaps from taking the lift and using the car for short journeys to taking the stairs and walking to the shops. Increase your activity levels gradually until you reach the recommended level of 30 minutes five times a week.

Mother of three Claudia absolutely delighted with incredible weight loss with Slimming World – Offaly Express

Posted: January 12, 2020 at 3:42 am

As a young mother with four years old twin girls and a baby boy of eight months Claudia Murray decided to change her life following words that made her stop and think of how her weight and health was affecting her life with her precious little ones.

Why cant you mammy? Why cant you come play? her girls asked her.

At 24-years-old Claudia felt the time to change is now.

Lets start my story, with 17 stone very unhappy with myself me, Claudia said. I was tired all the time, always angry, upset, feeling down which in turn made me eat anything most of which were high calorie, fatty foods. I would order takeaway nearly every night for myself and my family. It got to the point where I wasnt even enjoying it, I just wanted it Claudia told us.

My kids use to ask me every day to go out and go jump on the trampoline with them or play football with them. My answer was always no sorry, mammy cant, they would always reply asking me why cant you mammy?. I never gave them an explanation as I was always so embarrassed. Eventually, it got to the point where they stopped asking me, I assume because they didnt want to be rejected again. That absolutely broke my heart.

MORE BELOW PICTURE OF CLAUDIA WITH HER FAMILY BEFORE SLIMMING WORLD.

Claudias mother and sister were already members of Slimming World and so decided she would tag along to group and see how she got on, and what it was all about. Not having any faith in herself that she would actually stick to it due to failing before with other plans.

That feeling completely changed when I walked in the doors and was met by a very friendly consultant who instantly made me feel relaxed and reassured me that I 100% could reach my dream weight.

Tina, my consultant told me that at Slimming World I would never be hungry and that I would not have to stop eating my favourite meals. I was delighted to hear that I could choose my own personal weight loss target, which I set straight away, although I didnt have to. My first weigh-in came around and I was delighted to see I had lost 4lbs, Claudia beamed.

I was so scared to talk in group but I soon realised how lovely and supportive all the members are. It's such a safe place to share the good weeks and most importantly to share the struggles of a not so good week, said Claudia.

Fast forward to seven months later Claudia has lost over four and a half stone. MORE BELOW PICTURE.

My weight loss target is five stone and I can not wait to reach it. With Slimming World when you achieve your target you become a free member for Life with incredible support of Slimming Worlds unique Slim For Life programme.

I was blown away to be nominated my groups Mr .Slinky 2019 as it really boosted my confidence and made me realise that I can do it! I can lose the weight I want Claudia told us.

Slimming Worlds Food Optimising is absolutely amazing and is so family-friendly. You can enjoy all your family favourites - chicken curry, burger & chips even our firm family favourites spaghetti bolognaise, taco chips and roast dinners Claudia said.

Claudias fiance James has really benefited from her joining Slimming World too as he has lost over three and a half stone. With losing weight Claudia can now go play with her kids and is the first one to jump on the trampoline. The children love getting involved with cooking and love making their pizzas from scratch.

I amm so delighted to think that I am passing on healthy eating habits to my little family and we can all enjoy our meal times together alongside being more active as a family, Claudia said with pride.

A scary statistic shows that 27% of under 10-year-olds will be morbidly obese by the year 2030 so this is life-changing for us all.
