Lemon Water Helps With Weight Loss, But May Cause These Side Effects Too: Take Note Of Them, Says Luke Coutinho – NDTV News

Posted: December 20, 2019 at 12:42 am

Weight loss: Lemon water must be avoided if you have stomach or mouth ulcers

Lemon water side effects: Lemon water is a popular morning tonic that people take for better metabolism and even quick weight loss. However, the same lemon water might not show the same consequences for everyone. The mindset to overdo something is not something which will work in your favour, according to lifestyle coach Luke Coutinho. In one of his recent live sessions on Facebook, he mentions that lemon water does make your body more alkaline, which in turn helps in burning of fat. This, however, does not mean that the more lemon water you drink, the more fat you will burn.

It is important to understand that just because lemon water is a popular remedy for digestion, metabolism, etc, it doesn't mean that it will show the same effects on your body. Whenever you are trying something new, it needs to be done slowly and safely, while observing if it suiting your body or not.

Lemon water is a rich source of Vitamin C and can work as a great immunity booster, if it suits you. It definitely helps in alkalising the body. But, there are some side effects of drinking it, which cannot be ignored.

1. 1-3 cups of lemon water in a day is good enough to reap benefits from it. Drinking lemon water throughout the day can cause damage to tooth enamel. This is because lemon water is acidic in nature.

2. For those who already have a weak enamel, even 1 or 2 cups of lemon water can cause damage. Drink lemon water through a straw to prevent damage to your enamel.

3. Consuming lemon water with sugar in can worsen tooth cavities. Cavities contain bacteria that feeds on sugar.

4. Lemon water must be avoided when you have mouth ulcers as it can aggravate ulcers.

5. Lemon water can be considered to be an excellent remedy for acidity. But, lemon water can also make some people highly acidic. If you feel uneasy after drinking it, then it is not suiting you and you must avoid its consumption.

6. This drink must also be avoided if you have stomach ulcers.

7. Drinking lemon water can also be harmful if you joint pain and arthritis pain as it can aggravate the pain.

8. People with migraine and severe headaches should check their lemon water consumption. Luke says that there is a direct connection between citrus and migraine headaches. If you get these symptoms too often, its time to cut back on intake of lemon water.

Dad loses almost half of body weight after being told he was too fat for Alton Towers ride – Yahoo Sports

Blake Lewis, 33, used to weigh 23 stone.

He was shamed into losing almost half of hisbody weightafter he was told he was too fat to go on an Alton Towers ride when he visited the theme park with his young daughter.

In May last year he visited Alton Towers with his family. He went to get on the Go Jetters Vroomster Zoom but found that the CBeebies Land ride safety bar wouldnt fit over his stomach.

This kick-started something in Blake, which led to him shedding almost half of his body weight by himself with regularexerciseand healthy eating.

Blake dropped ten stone in 18 months. [Photo: SWNS]

He lost 10 stone after feeling embarrassed about not being able to go on the ride, a situation which left his daughter in tears.

Inspiringly, he managed to do it without any help of weight loss groups. He stuck to a regime of healthy eating and regular exercise, no doubt spurred on by his experience at Alton Towers.

I had always wanted to lose weight ever since having children but never had the will power. Blake, who is a care assistant from Church Gresley, Derbyshire, said.

Id take my children to the park and play with them and thought I could probably run better than a lot of slim people.

When some of his overweight friends were diagnosed with heart disease and type 2 diabetes, he started to feel concerned.

He believes it was the ride that did it for him, though.

My daughter Sophie didnt understand why we couldnt go on the ride because we had sat down alright.

I knew I was big but when I couldnt get the belt over my stomach I thought: This doesnt happen to people every day. Something is not right.

His daughter didn't understand why they were asked to get off the ride. [Photo: SWNS]

Blake said there was no nastiness from the staff members who asked him to get off of the ride, but that something clicked in his head.

That's when I thought enough was enough and I needed to do something about my size.

He didn't use the help of a weight loss group. [Photo: SWNS]

He had an addiction to junk food - which included takeaways, crisps and chips.

Often, hed reach 5,000 calories in one day.

When he lost the weight, he dropped his calorie intake dramatically from 5,000 to 1,000 calories per day, choosing to batch-cook his meals so he always had something available.

He decided not to join a gym and instead opted to create a gym in his garage. He paired this with walking the one and a half miles to his work each day.

Stick at it hard for the first few weeks then youll be encouraged when the pounds start coming off. Is the advice he offers people trying to lose weight.

Some were concerned that the weight dropped off so quickly that Id make myself poorly. In fact, Ive never been healthier.

Keto diet and alcohol: Best drinks and what to avoid – Medical News Today

Posted: December 20, 2019 at 12:41 am

The ketogenic, or keto, diet is a high fat, low carbohydrate diet that offers the potential benefit of losing weight while maintaining muscle.

Carbohydrates are the body's main source of energy. When a person consumes fewer food sources containing carbs, the liver breaks down fat reserves in the body into chemicals called ketones.

When the body uses these ketones for energy, the body goes into a state of ketosis, resulting in weight loss.

Most alcoholic beverages contain carbs, although some drinks contain a lot more than others. Choosing alcoholic drinks with fewer carbs can help a person remain within the daily limits of the keto diet.

This article looks at some keto-friendly alcoholic drinks. We also look at which drinks to avoid on account of their high sugar and carb content.

Most keto diet plans recommend that people consume 2050 grams (g) of carbs per day. Meals and drinks must fit within this daily allowance.

There is no one version of the keto diet. Some may recommend avoiding alcohol altogether due to its carb content.

Not all alcohol contains the same amount of carbs, however. Beer and drinks with a lot of sugar contain the highest amount, while spirits contain none.

Some people might choose to have an alcoholic drink if it fits within their daily allowance, while others may decide to avoid it altogether.

Another thing to remember is that the body may use energy from alcohol before using ketones from body fat. This could potentially limit the effect of the diet.

People following a keto diet to treat a medical condition, such as diabetes or epilepsy, should avoid alcohol.

The sections below list some keto-friendly choices for low carb alcoholic drinks.

Champagne and sparkling wine contain an average of 4.68 g of carbs per glass.

So, enjoying a small glass to celebrate a special event should fit within most keto diet plans.

Although most beer contains a lot of carbs, there are some lighter options. For example, a pale lager contains an average of 5.81 g of carbs per can.

Choose a light beer to stay within carb limits for the day.

Both red and white wine contain relatively few carbs. There are about 4.7 g in a standard glass.

Dry wines have the lowest sugar content.

Spirits such as gin, whiskey, rum, and vodka contain 0 g of carbs.

Mixers often contain carbs, so people following a keto diet may wish to choose a low sugar or diet option.

Club soda and sparkling water contain no carbs. Mixers that contain artificial sweeteners are some other low carb options.

Energy drinks, juice, cola, and lemonade are all high in carbohydrates, however.

The sections below list some drinks that have a high sugar and carb content. People following a keto diet may wish to avoid these beverages.

An average 12 ounce can of beer contains 12.8 g of carbs.

A light beer is a better option for the keto diet.

A sugary cocktail may contain 46.67 g or more of carbs. This is almost the entire carb allowance for a day under the keto diet.

Flavored alcohols, such as peach schnapps, often contain a lot of sugar.

The fruit juice in a wine cooler can contain a lot of sugar. The average carb content in a glass of wine cooler is 13.6 g.

Diet cranberry juice is one fruit juice that contains less sugar, meaning fewer carbs.

Sangria usually contains wine, fruit juice, and a mixer, all of which contain carbs. A glass of sangria can contain up to 18.9 g of carbs.

The aim of the keto diet is for the body to be in a state of ketosis. Maintaining this state relies on following very specific dietary guidelines. If a person does not strictly follow these guidelines, the diet may not be effective.

Following the keto diet often requires a lot of willpower. Alcohol can affect decision making and could mean making the choice to eat or drink something that is not within the diet plan. A person may therefore choose to avoid alcohol if they think that it might cause them to break their diet.

If a person eats a meal containing a lot of carbs before drinking, it could reduce the effects of the alcohol. In contrast, those following a keto diet may feel drunk more quickly because they have not eaten carbs to absorb some of the alcohol.

Drinking alcohol carries some health risks. Guidance recommends drinking in moderation, which is up to two drinks per day for men and one for women.

For people following a keto diet, choose an alcoholic drink that is low in carbs to stay within the limits of the diet.

Beer and cocktails can contain a lot of carbs and may take the body out of ketosis. This can make the diet less effective. Wine and light beer are lower carb options. Spirits contain no carbs, but be sure to choose a low calorie mixer.

Remember that alcohol can affect judgment and willpower. Drinking can also have more of an effect on the body when a person is following a keto diet.

These Are the Diet Trends That Dominated the Last Decade – Yahoo Lifestyle

Posted: December 20, 2019 at 12:41 am

It's often the buzzy fashion and pop culture moments that we remember most from the previous decade. But hear us out diet trends can help define the teens just as well as the naked dress or Lizzo and her feelin good as hell mantra. (Remember the 1980s grapefruit diet? And who can forget the 2000s, when the Atkins diet gave everyone the green light to eat all the bacon?)

Thats why were taking a peek at some of the most popular diet trends of the 2010s. Find out which ones quickly fell by the wayside and the all-stars that will likely make their way into the 20s.

RELATED: The One Thing That Finally Helped Me Stop Overeating After Decades of Yo-Yo Dieting

This 30-day elimination plan became a household name in 2010. Designed in 2009 as a reset protocol, the Whole30 diet asks its followers to eliminate some major food groups sugar, alcohol, grains, legumes, soy, and dairy are all banned. Weighing yourself is also off the table; the diets creators instead ask participants to focus on non-scale victories, including fewer blemishes, whiter teeth, clothes that fit better, and a more optimistic mindset.

As for the diets staying power, it will likely carry followers both old and new into the next decade the Whole30 is known for its #JanuaryWhole30 initiative, which encourages dieters to reset during the first month of the new year. Plus, co-creator Melissa Hartwig Urban continues to launch Whole30 cookbooks, including the recently released The Whole30 Friends & Family.

The baby food diet which, yes, requires eating jars of pureed food typically reserved for actual babies gained popularity around 2010. This was in part due to celebrity trainer Tracy Anderson, who began touting the cleanse as a way to eliminate toxicity and break bad habits, and still have your digestive system going. Uh yeah, thanks, but no thanks! We're glad to have seen this one go just as quickly as it arrived on the scene.

Try as we might, we just can't seem to quit the juice cleanse craze. In the 1940s, we were introduced to the Master Cleanse (which involves sipping on a blend of lemon juice, cayenne pepper, and maple syrup for 10 days) and there have been new iterations ever since.

In the past decade, we saw the advent of at-home fruit and vegetable juice cleanses (think BluePrint or Pressed Juicery) that were also representative of our need to have everything delivered to our doorstep. Plus, the big juice cleanses of the teens had celeb backing Salma Hayek created the Cooler Cleanse and Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop touted the benefits of now-defunct Organic Avenue's juice cleanse.

At the turn of the decade, juice cleanses are still going strong, but so are the urges of experts that they aren't healthy. Reminder: Your body is equipped with everything it needs to 'detox' on its own.

The most Googled diet term in 2013, this diet (also known as the caveman diet") requires followers to stick with foods assumed to have been available during the Paleolithic era. That includes meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, herbs, and healthy fats. Basically, if it wasnt hunted, fished, or gathered, then it's off-limits. If you're having dj vu, that's because the Whole30 and paleo diets are very similar when it comes to foods that get the green light and ones you should nix entirely.

And clearly, the diet is still going strong: Paleo Diet for Beginners, The Nutrient-Dense Kitchen, and Food: What the Heck Should I Cook? are all paleo cookbooks that were all released in 2019. Plus, The International Food Information Council (IFIC) Foundations 2018 Food and Health Survey showed that the paleo diet is still one of the top 10 diets in the U.S.

What was originally a necessity for those with Celiac disease became the trendy diet in 2013. In fact, even though there was no change in the rate of Celiac disease diagnoses between 2009 and 2014, the interest in gluten-free diets skyrocketed, according to a 2016 study. Researchers noted that approximately 1.76 million people in the U.S. had celiac disease, but an estimated 2.7 million people in the U.S. had cut or reduced their gluten consumption. This has been boosted by popular gluten-free diets, like the Whole30 and paleo diets, both of which nix gluten (and all other grains as well) as a means for losing weight.

The craze around cutting gluten specifically as a means for weight-loss seems to have dwindled, especially as people come to terms with the fact that a 'gluten-free' label doesn't necessarily mean healthy and that you don't need to cut out carbs entirely to lose weight.

The diet gained traction around 2014, along with the idea that fat is not necessarily the villain it had been made out to be by the Standard American Diet (yeah, that food pyramid on the side of a Cheerios box). The diets philosophy, outlined in the book The Bulletproof Diet, instead placed an emphasis on the quality of fat you consume, instead of the quantity. Coconut oil, olives, grass-fed ghee, and almonds are all free game on the Bulletproof Diet, as are veggies, fruit, and grass-fed meat. The diet even came with its own spin on coffee named, you guessed it, Bulletproof Coffee, a concoction that involves stirring grass-fed butter into your coffee for more energy and increased ability to burn body fat.

While interest in this diet isn't going anywhere, it no doubt paved the way for the high-fat, low-carb keto craze of later years that has arguably even more staying power in the next decade.

In 2015 we experienced the "activated charcoal" boom. (Nope, not the kind you're used to smelling at a barbecue.) While typically used in water filtration systems to sift out toxins or in the ER to help treat overdoses, the black powder began popping up in just about everything. Juice companies mixed it into their cleansing programs and said it would help draw out 'impurities' from the body and even improve digestive health. (Personal care companies took note, too: Gray-hued deodorant, toothpaste, and face cleansers began lining shelves and boasting claims that they could add a detoxifying element to your beauty routine.)

But experts were quick to put the kibosh on consuming activated charcoal. Yes, it binds to everything and that means everything, including important vitamins and nutrients that your body needs to stay healthy.

Riding on the back of the vegan diet is the raw foods lifestyle, a plant-based diet made popular by its steady rotation of uncooked vegetables, as well as dried fruits, soaked and sprouted grains, beans, or legumes, fresh fruit, raw nuts and seeds, and cold-pressed oils. Depending on where you fall in the diets sliding scale, you may consider yourself a raw vegan, raw vegetarian (including eggs and raw dairy), or even raw carnivore, incorporating raw meat and fish into your diet.

The raw food diet isnt new (theres proof of its origins in the 1800s, according to the New York Academy of Medicine), but it saw a surge during the last decade. In fact, a raw foods diet was ranked the second most popular diet in 2016 (just behind paleo), earning a 92 percent increase in interest versus the year prior, according to a GrubHub study.

The animal-free diet isnt new World Vegan Day was established in 1994 but it has seen a growth in followers during the teens. In 2014, only 1 percent of United States consumers said they were vegan; in 2017 that number jumped to 6 percent, according to a 2017 report by GlobalData. Further proof of its dominance? The Economist dubbed 2019 the year of the vegan, a declaration the publication tied to the increased availability of vegan food options, as well as millennial interest in an animal-product free lifestyle.

If you made it through the last two years without hearing the word keto, then its easy to assume youve been living under a rock. After all, the ketogenic diet (which was originally introduced in the 1920s as a means for treating epilepsy), has been making its rounds. Its popularity has been boosted by celebs like Kourtney Kardashian, who is reportedly a huge fan of the high-fat, low-carb lifestyle.

Like the Bulletproof Diet, keto focuses on incorporating high-quality fats into your diet. But unlike some other high-protein, low-carb diets (e.g. Whole30), large quantities of leafy greens and fresh vegetables are not fair game. Instead, they get counted along with the rest of the carbs you incorporate on the keto diet (fresh berries, for instance), which allows for 20 to 30 grams of carbohydrates per day.

Piggybacking off of the keto diet is intermittent fasting, which limits your eating to certain hours of the day. While there are many intermittent fasting schedules, one of the most popular involves squeezing your eating into an eight-hour window, then fasting for the other 16 hours, and drinking only water.

Interestingly enough, the keto diet and intermittent fasting began to be paired together by their followers. Followers report intermittent fasting increases the results of the keto diet, even leading to increased weight loss. While the research on the health benefits is slim, word of mouth alone has helped catapult this diet into the spotlight and it isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

This diet is what it sounds like: All meat and animal products (like eggs or dairy) and zero carbs no fruits, veggies, seeds, potatoes, legumes, or nuts. The carnivore diet gained popularity along with the keto diet, thanks to claims it could help cure everything from rheumatoid arthritis to depression. There hasnt been any scientific-backed evidence to support such claims, but that hasnt stopped the carnivore diet from gaining followers: One Reddit community has 106K followers and abides by the principle that they consume only foods from the animal kingdom.

Only time will tell, but theres a good chance youll hear the word carnivore once or 1,000 times in 2020 and beyond.

With a ranking as the best commercial diet of 2019 and famous followers that include Oprah and Kate Hudson, you know Weight Watchers (now known as WW) had to make the list. The diet broke ground in 1963 when it delivered its followers a daily point system (in which foods are assigned point values) for helping them to lose weight.

Depsite a bit of controversy, with their new name and branding, plus easy app that helps track points, it's safe to say this nearly 60 year-old diet will last long through the 20s.

The Mediterranean Diet has managed to stay a classic throughout the teens. It was ranked the best diet of 2019 by US News and World Report and for good reason. The Mediterranean Diets focus on lean protein, whole grains, veggies, fruit (and, yes, even a bit of wine and cheese) has made it a favorite among dietitians for several decades.

This story is a part of "The Teens": an exploration of what we loved, learned, and became in the last decade.

How To Take Care Of Yourself And Maintain Healthy Weight Loss Goals In The New Year If You Have Body Image Issues – YourTango

New year, new you isn't always as simple as it sounds.

By Katja Bart

I have a confession to make:I am not body positive.

I try to be kind to myself. After years ofstruggling with eatingand exercise, Im at a place where I can go through a day without panicking about calories and how much time I spend on the treadmill.

I have a gym routine that makes me feel happy. I can sort through negative self-talk at meal times (for the most part).

RELATED:5 Ways To Make The Most Of Your New Year's Eve Resolutions To Make Your Relationship Healthier Than Ever

January is difficult for me, though. Its not just that its the month of self-flagellation and diets and discounted gym memberships. It also marks the anniversary of a support group ganging up on me, which led me to leave them and never engaging with BoPo ever again.

I dont regret the decision, by the way. I appreciate the support I received and the lessons I learned. Truly.

I even remained a member of the group so that none of the posts that I made (with the accompanying discussions and resource sharing) remained visible for as long as needed. But, the experience taught me a lot about boundaries andhealthy ways of dealing with stress.

If, like me, you struggle with your body, but you dont fulfill the criteria for an eating disorder, dont fret. Here are a few strategies that can help you get through January.

If something brings you down, then go out of your way to block it from your view.. Around January 1st, I usually put out a message along the lines of, This month is hard for me, Im blocking fitness and diet content, thank you for understanding.

Some peopleget it and remember to invite me to events separately. Those who don't get blocked and stay blocked. It makes life so much better.

This year, I think Ill try my hand at sewing. Last time, I got on the knitting bandwagon. I never get very far with these projects, but I stay strong, and usually by the time I give up, the January rush hour in my gym has passed and I can get back into my routines without worry.

Plus, you might just end up with a life-long hobby.

RELATED:5 Steps You Must Take Now To Avoid A 'New Year, New You' Mindset That Could Ruin Your New Year's Resolutions

Want to go on a trip? Write a ten-part fantasy epic? Read your TBR pile? (Okay, fine, I know the last one is impossible, but you can try!) Use the January momentum to put in the groundwork for that, whatever it might be. Get your mind off eating habits.

Downloading cool music to dance to in your room or going for a walk in the park are good ways to get moving without it turning into a giant competition. I like a half-marathon as much as the next runner, but its not necessary to sign up for one and start training as soon as the year starts.

Long-term fitness goals are built steadily over time. Consistency is what matters, not riding the hype train.

Ill say it again for good measure: eyes on your own plate. Anything that your colleagues and friends do is their business. They are not dieting at you you are not obliged to join in. Dont allow their choices to make you judge your own body.

Some meals may be more nutritious than others, but assigning subjective values like, clean or good or naughty is counter-productive. Even if others do it, you can resist the lazy typification and focus on the facts.

Sweets are tasty and calorie-dense. Vegetables are high in vitamins. Lentils may need a bit of tomato sauce, but theyre rich in fiber, which is a recommended part of a balanced diet. Stay factual and youll be surprised how quickly other people follow along.

Remember, the goal here isnt to convince anybody that you are right and they are wrong. The goal is to not stress yourself out when every single media outlet is trying to get you to buy unsustainable weight loss plans and laxative tea.

You (and your body) deserve some peace of mind, so dont be afraid to ask for it.

Why you should start the day with Fenugreek (Methi) water – The Indian Express

Posted: December 20, 2019 at 12:41 am

By: Lifestyle Desk | New Delhi | Published: December 19, 2019 12:42:50 pm It mentioned that methi dana (seeds) water has the ability to lower blood sugar in people with diabetes. (Source: Getty/Thinkstock Images)

Aiming for an ideal weight is a constant struggle despite hours of intense workouts and strict calorie-restricted diets. However, there are certain herbs that can help boost digestion, improve metabolism and accelerate weight loss, when used in proper amounts, especially fenugreek or methi. This potent natural ingredient can trigger the burning of belly fat and other adipose tissues.

It is believed that drinking warm water mixed with fenugreek seeds or powder can reduce weight quickly. A 2015 study published in the International Journal For Vitamin and Nutrition Research, found that a daily dose of 10 grams of fenugreek seeds soaked in hot water may help control Type-2 diabetes. It mentioned that methi dana (seeds) water has the ability to lower blood sugar in people with diabetes.

Whats the best way to consume it?

Add one tsp of fenugreek seeds in a glass of hot water and let it steep for about 10 minutes. Strain and add lemon and a pinch of honey for flavour and enjoy your cup of hot tea.

Benefits of fenugreek

* The seeds are known to contain fibre that can help to slow down digestion, reduce the rate at which your body absorbs sugar, and also increase the amount of insulin that your body releases.

* For those suffering from Type-2 diabetes, it is considered to improve the bodys insulin secretion as well as insulin sensitivity due to the presence of an amino acid called 4-hydroxyisleucine, which is known to have anti-diabetic properties.

* Galactomannan, a water-soluble fibre found in fenugreek seeds, curbs your appetite by enhancing the feeling of fullness, which helps in weight management. Galactomannan also increases the bodys metabolism, which boosts fat burning as well as overall health.

* Fenugreek seeds can be consumed as a whole or can be used in powdered form as a flavouring agent in dishes. Methi powder can also be used to make a healthy tea.

Heres a recipe ofsprouted fenugreek pickle in a tamarind sauce that you can try out:

Ingredients

1,500g Fenugreek sprouts (obtained from 500g seeds)25g Mustard seeds for seasoning750g Cleaned tamarind, obtain thick extract using water125g Jaggery, grated400g Chilli powder25g Turmeric powder10g Asafoetida, roast in oil and powder500g Salt750ml Oil

Method

* Stir-fry the fenugreek sprouts over low heat for exactly 2 minutes, and set aside. Frying for longer makes the sprouts bitter.

* In the same pan, heat some more oil, add mustard seeds, and allow to crackle.

* Stir in the tamarind extract, jaggery and salt, and bring to a boil.

* Allow to thicken over a high flame.

* Lower the heat, stir in the chilli, turmeric, asafoetida powders and the remaining oil.

* Continue cooking for about 45 minutes until the mixture thickens.

* Add in the fried sprouts and cook for 15 minutes until the mixture becomes jam-like and the oil separates.

I Switched To Protein Coffee In The Morning And This Is What Happened – CelebMix

Posted: December 20, 2019 at 12:41 am

Until recently, I wasnt sure that a more perfect beverage than coffee existed in this world. You can drink it hot or cold and it gives you energy and focus to start your day or to keep chugging along during a long afternoon. But I have to admit, Im guilty of adding a lot of extras to my coffee to make it taste even more amazing like sugars and cream. My coffee obsession quickly started to derail my diet efforts, adding too many unnecessary sugars and calories that made it hard to stick to my nutritional goals.

I tried eliminating coffee from my diet but that was a disaster. Not only did I turn into a grouch who constantly had a headache, but I also found it difficult to get through my morning workouts with the same gusto as before. I did some research and it turns out there are a lot of health benefits in your cup of joe, so why would I want to give it up? According to Healthcare Weekly, coffee can fuel your workouts by revving up your metabolism and also alleviating muscle pain. Researching how to keep coffee a staple part of my diet while still being healthy, I stumbled upon a growing trend, protein coffee.

What Is Protein Coffee?

Protein powder has been popular for a long time. Used by fitness junkies and health fanatics to build muscle mass and lose or maintain weight, you can add scoops of protein to smoothies, or even add it to your pancakes. Whoever thought to add it to their coffee is a certified genius.

Protein coffee combines the health benefits of caffeine and protein into one great beverage. Its a trend that has been embraced by fitness coaches and celebrities like Kylie Jenner, making it super popular in the health and wellness niche. Adding more protein to your diet will help you build muscle and keep you feeling full and energized. Its extremely important if youre on a low carb diet.

I tried adding a few scoops of vanilla whey protein to my steaming hot cup of coffee but ended up with a lumpy mess that was unpleasant to drink. It turns out that protein powder absorbs into cold liquids much easier. Thats alright because ice coffee is my jam. To make my hectic mornings a teensy bit easier, I decided to try an all-in-one protein coffee mix. I tried Complete Nutrition Protein Coffee, and my life was forever changed.

Im not being dramatic. Complete Nutrition makes a quality product that mixes into a smooth coffee-flavored beverage thats also just the right amount of creamy and sweet without adding any extra flavorings. Its low sugar, low calorie and with only 1g of carbs, its totally keto-friendly. Now I can have my coffee, keep losing weight and can continue to excel at my fitness goals.

The Benefits Of Protein Coffee

If youre still not convinced, here is a brief list of the benefits you can expect from switching to protein coffee.

Build And Maintain Muscle Building muscle makes you stronger, improves your workouts and helps you lose weight. People tend to naturally lose muscle mass as they age, the protein will help you build muscle or at least keep what you have.

Increased Cognitive Function Protein coffee can help you be more focused and alert. It feeds and fuels the brain at the same time. As a stimulant, caffeine wakes up the brain and contributes to better memory as well. There have even been studies to suggest that regular coffee consumption can decrease the risk of dementia.

Weight Loss Obesity is a huge problem in America and other developed nations around the world. The combination of protein and coffee will increase your metabolic rate, making it easier to burn calories. Especially if you are the type of person that always skips breakfast, coffee with added protein will really help your metabolism get started in the morning. It also keeps you feeling full so that you naturally eat less. The caffeine will help you work out longer and more effectively when you drink it up to an hour before your routine.

Added Stamina While protein gives your body strength, coffee gives it a boost of energy. This power-house combo will really improve your fitness results. You can work out harder and longer than ever before. Coffee also increases your heart rate for a few hours, essential for delivering oxygen to the muscles while you do cardio.

Repair and Recover Protein coffee will help you quickly recover after each workout because protein molecules are the building blocks muscles need to repair and grow. Protein coffee also reduces the stress hormone cortisol in your nervous system, allowing your body to cool down and heal.

Protein Coffee Makes You Happy I mean this literally, whey protein increases the production of the brain chemical serotonin, a hormone that makes you feel good and sleep better. Improving your mood can help ease depression and anxiety.

Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammation Reduce your bodys exposure to free radicals that can deteriorate your cells by drinking coffee rich in antioxidants. Coffee isnt only delicious, its packed with vitamins and minerals with antioxidant and anti-inflammation properties.

Switching To Protein Coffee

Why does coffee get a bad reputation when it has so many health benefits? Like anything else, too much of a good thing can hurt you. Excessive coffee consumption can make you jittery, make you have trouble sleeping or give you high blood pressure. Also, adding lots of sugar and cream to your coffee increases your calorie and fat consumption leading to weight gain.

Protein Coffee drinks give you just the right amount of caffeine and protein to give you all the benefits without the excess. Drinking the recommended serving sizes will be an easy and tasty way to improve your overall health while using a perfect mix like the one from Complete Nutrition will save you time and money in the morning. You can say goodbye to expensive cafe drinks and grinding your own coffee beans in the morning, and say hello to ice-cold caffeinated protein drinks as a way to start your day.

Undefeated striker with powerful skills, he says of the 8-0 Venezuelan. Also, he must be very motivated because it is his UFC debut. But I have performed amazing and aggressive fights against strikers, and I am sure all the crowd in the arena will be super pumped up after watching our fight.

That sounds like bragging, and perhaps it is, but the thing is: hes probably right.

Win or lose, Ma is not a point-fighter looking for low-risk victories. His willingness to eat one in order to deliver two has always made him one of the most reliably entertaining fighters in the lightweight division, and with the pride of fighting at home oozing from every pore, the bout is destined to reward everyone who has made it to their seats for the prelims. He understands the people want a show, and he intends to keep giving it.

I always look fights. If my physical condition allows, I plan to have five fights in 2020.

What Is Brie? Nutrition, Benefits, and More – Healthline

Posted: December 20, 2019 at 12:41 am

Brie is a soft cows milk cheese that originated in France but is now popular worldwide.

Its pale yellow with an edible rind of white mold.

Whats more, brie has a creamy texture and unique, mild taste and aroma thats characteristic of mold-aged cheeses. Its usually served with bread, crackers, or fruit.

This unique cheese may also have some health benefits due to its dairy content and the ripening process it undergoes.

This article reviews everything you need to know about brie, including its nutritional content and potential health benefits.

Brie is a high fat, nutrient-rich cheese. It contains protein and fat, as well as several vitamins and minerals.

One ounce (28 grams) of full fat brie provides (1):

Most of the fat in brie is saturated fat from cows milk. Although this fat has historically been linked to heart disease, emerging research shows that it isnt as harmful as previously thought (2, 3).

Brie is also a good source of protein, with 1 ounce (28 grams) offering a little less protein than a medium egg (4).

In addition to its numerous vitamins and minerals, this cheese is a good source of both riboflavin and vitamin B12. These vitamins play important roles in energy production and metabolism (5, 6).

Brie is a high fat cheese that packs as much protein as a medium egg in just 1 ounce (28 grams). It also offers sizable amounts of vitamin B12 and riboflavin.

Brie is made by adding the enzyme rennet to milk, along with salt and bacteria known as cheese cultures. The mixture is then left to ripen for about 1 month.

During the ripening process, white mold forms the rind of the cheese. Unlike other molds that grow on food, this one is perfectly safe to eat (7).

Several varieties of brie exist, as it can be made with whole or partly skimmed milk, ripened for varying durations, and contain added herbs and spices.

These changes can significantly alter both its taste and texture. For instance, a longer ripening period results in a tangier, softer cheese.

Brie can be eaten on its own uncooked or baked but is usually paired with bread, crackers, fruit, or nuts. It makes for a simple, elegant appetizer alongside crackers and jam or jelly. Baked brie is wrapped in puff pastry or drizzled with honey.

Brie forms a rind of edible, white mold during the ripening process. This scrumptious cheese is typically served with bread, crackers, fruit, or jam.

Brie contains protein and fat along with calcium, vitamin B12, and riboflavin, making it very nutrient-dense. It offers 100 calories per 1 ounce (28 grams).

Fat and protein are associated with increased feelings of fullness, which may aid weight loss and appetite control (8, 9).

In addition, full fat dairy is associated with a healthier body weight and does not appear to increase your risk of heart disease (10, 11).

Furthermore, brie is high in riboflavin and vitamin B12, which play key roles in energy production. Its calcium is important for healthy bone growth while its vitamin A promotes healthy skin and vision (5, 6, 14, 15).

As a result of the ripening process, brie also contains conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), a highly anti-inflammatory compound that may exert anticancer effects (12).

In fact, in one test-tube study, brie and other ripened cheeses slowed the growth of leukemia cells (13).

Nonetheless, human research is needed.

Brie is nutrient-dense and aids feelings of fullness. As such, it may promote appetite control and weight loss. Early research suggests that it may even fight cancer cells, though more studies are necessary.

Soft cheeses like brie contain a small amount of lactose, a natural milk sugar.

Interestingly, up to two-thirds of the global population is lactose intolerant and should limit their dairy intake. However, cheeses are generally well tolerated, as much of their lactose content is removed or converted during the cheesemaking process (16).

That said, people with a milk protein allergy shouldnt eat this cheese.

Otherwise, including moderate amounts of brie in your diet shouldnt have any significant side effects.

The recommended serving size of brie is 1 ounce (28 grams), which is about the size of your thumb. Eating excessive amounts may cause bloating or constipation and lead to high calorie intake.

Additionally, 1 ounce (28 grams) of brie contains 6% of the DV for sodium, which adds up quickly if you pair it with salty crackers or nuts. Too much sodium can lead to high blood pressure in salt-sensitive individuals (17).

Finally, pregnant women should avoid unpasteurized brie, which is made with milk that did not undergo a heating process to remove bacteria. It may harbor the harmful bacteria that cause listeriosis, which can be fatal (18).

You can enjoy limited amounts of brie if you are lactose intolerant but not if you are allergic to milk protein. Pregnant women should avoid unpasteurized varieties. Otherwise, moderate intake does not have any side effects.

Brie should be stored in airtight packaging or plastic wrap in the refrigerator. Given that its a soft cheese, its particularly prone to spoilage or bacterial contamination if left outside of the fridge.

Most manufacturers recommend consuming the entire package by the expiration date.

However, if the cheese looks and smells fine past its use-by date, its generally safe to eat as long as it has been pasteurized (19).

All the same, children, pregnant women, and those with compromised immune systems should not eat expired brie even if it looks and smells normal due to the risk of exposure to harmful bacteria.

Its best to eat or freeze brie within 13 weeks of opening the package, as it will continue to ripen in your fridge.

Brie can be frozen for up to 6 months if tightly wrapped in foil and placed in a freezer-safe bag. Nonetheless, it may be crumbly after you thaw it and more suitable for cooking rather than serving as an appetizer.

Remember to discard any brie that has been at room temperature for longer than 4 hours (19).

Brie has a perfectly safe layer of white mold on its outer surface.

However, blue or green mold indicates that the cheese has gone bad and should be thrown out.

With harder cheeses like Parmesan, you can cut off moldy areas and eat the remainder of the product. However, visible mold in soft varieties like brie often indicates that mold spores have contaminated the entire cheese (19).

In addition, overripe brie or brie that has been aged for too long may be excessively runny and have a strong ammonia odor, which comes from the bacteria used during manufacturing. Although its safe to eat, overripe brie may have an off-putting taste and smell.

Brie should be stored in airtight packaging in your refrigerator and discarded 13 weeks after opening. If you see blue or green mold at any point, throw away the cheese.

Brie is a soft cheese known for its creamy texture and edible rind of white mold. It makes a great appetizer when served with bread, crackers, or fruit.

Its rich in fat and protein, along with calcium, vitamin B12, and riboflavin.

If eaten in moderation, brie may promote feelings of fullness and aid appetite control, which can promote weight loss.

If youre interested in this cheese, try it baked as a delectable side or eat it on its own as a snack.
