Weight management tips: If you want to maintain a healthy weight you need to take care of the timing of the meal as well. It is extremely important to choose the right time to eat dinner. You must also consume a light dinner. Here's the best time to eat dinner explained by experts.

Weight management: You should eat dinner few hours before sleeping

Just like breakfast lunch and dinner are equally important. Timings of the meal play an important role. Most people are confused about the best time to eat dinner. It is always advised to eat dinner a few hours before you sleep. When you sleep you require less energy therefore you need less calories. Eating late-night dinner is associated with many issues like weight gain, digestive issues, discomfort in sleeping and many more. One should also choose fewer calories for dinner. Light dinners are the healthiest choice which can help in weight management. If you want to maintain a healthy weight you must pay attention towards the timings of your meal, especially for dinner. Here's the answer to all your questions; know expert advice about the best time to eat dinner.

Senior Dietitian, Neha Pathania explains, "Ideally, dinner should be eaten at least three hours before going to sleep. Unlike breakfast and lunch, it should be the lightest meal of the day as one doesn't need too much energy at night. It's important to give oneself time to digest before going to bed. Regular dinner times contribute to healthy digestion and elimination. People, who suffer from gastroesophageal reflux disease, should not eat for at least three hours before going to bed. Late dinners can adversely affect health. Also, eating dinner earlier reduces your family's risk for Type 2 diabetes by eliminating the imbalance between blood sugar levels and insulin."

Shalini Bliss Garwin who is a senior dietitian also explains, "In every household, dinner schedule is dependent on family members' work, after-school activities and individual ages. Sometimes, dinner time gets delayed as we grab some fast food. But there are many reasons one should dine every day at the same time because your dinner makes an impact on bedtimes and health needs. If each night we have dinner at the same time we will sleep much better as regular timetables create stability and mental order.

The best and worst diets of 2019 – 3AW

Posted: December 3, 2019 at 6:42 am

Karen Inge shared her opinion on some of the most popular diets of 2019.

Here they are, ranked from worst to best, according to the ranking assigned to them by the Healthy Food Guide.

Its just eating one particular food, like one fruit or vegetable, Karen said

Karen says this one is popular with celebrities, but gets the lowest rating of all!

This is an ultra low carbohydrate diet that promises rapid weight loss. Its really taking out all the breads, fruits, starchy vegetables, other grain foods, legumes out of the diet. Its been shown scientifically to help children with epilepsy, but for the general population cutting all of those carbohydrate rich foods that are high in fibre is not good for the microbiome and not good for digestive health, Karen said.

The CICO diet is a new name for an old diet.

Its the calorie controlled diet that weve used for years and years, Karen said.

Its calories in versus calories out. Its not a new thing.

This diet gets a poor rating because those following the diet can essentially eat whatever they like.

You could eat all your calories on chocolate if you wanted to, Karen said.

Michael Mosely came up with this more extreme fasting diet.

Its an intensive 12 week diet which combines the Mediterranean style of eating but with just 800 calories a day. That has been shown to help you lose weight but it is very restrictive, Karen said.

The Fast 800 diets Healthy Food Guide rating was brought down because its so difficult to follow.

People really cant seem to follow it for the long term, Karen said.

This is a less extreme fasting diet.

Its the one where you control how much you eat by the hours, so you restrict your eating to eight hours a day and fast for 16, Karen said.

Theres a whole body of evidence showing intermittent fasting can be beneficial for people with diabetes and also can help with neuro-degenerative diseases, so particularly for the brain.

Its got a ranking of 7 out of 10 because, for a lot of people, they just cant function when theyre fasting for that length of time.

If you cant handle fasting for 16 hours Karen recommends trying the 5/2 diet instead.

Veganism can be a very healthy way of eating, but it isnt really a diet.

Its really a way of life, Karen said.

It gets a big A+ as long as youre a well-balanced vegan!

The Nordic diet is similar to the Mediterranean diet, so is a great option for those who prefer Nordic dishes to Mediterranean ones!

Thats really beautiful plant foods, wholegrains, legumes and seafood, Karen said.

Its mostly plant based eating but you include meat and fish every now and then. Its really known as flexible vegetarianism in a way, its sort of moving more towards plant eating. This really has benefits for every aspect of health, Karen Inge said.

Studies looking at this style of eating have found it has a positive effect on metabolic health, reduced risk of type two diabetes, and on body weight, but its also delicious!

Karen follows this style of eating herself!

I am not tired at all! Museveni reveals reason behind sudden loss of weight – pmldaily.com

Posted: December 3, 2019 at 6:42 am

President Museveni says he is not frail but has reduced his weight from 106kgs to 76kgs to match his body weight index (PHOTO/PPU).

KAMPALA President Museveni has revealed that his sudden loss of weight was a deliberate move to shed off the excess weight.

Responding to his social media followers on Monday, December 02, 2019, the President revealed that whereas many think that he looks frail, this is not the case.

One of the contributors thought that I looked tired. I am not tired at all. I have, however, deliberately lost weight by shedding off that fat that I had allowed to accumulate on my body frame because the doctors had not explained to us clearly the mistake of not fighting fat, Mr Museveni said, adding that he has lost about 30kgs.

In future, I will explain to you this awareness. I have moved from 106kgs to now 76kgs. I will stabilize my weight at 76kgs because that is the one that matches with my height of 5.7 feet, he said.

Before I talk about the anti-obesity campaign, however, in my next message I will talk about education in order to put in focus the recent strike at Makerere, he added.

The President also lashed at those who asked him to retire.

Some of the responders were negative. Retire, they shouted at me. That will be decided by our Party, the NRM and the People of Uganda, he said.

==================================================

Below is Musevenis letter in full;

Dear Ugandans and, especially, the Bazzukulu.

Greetings. Crime seems to be going down on account of the as yet limited efforts we have deployed. The Police, at the Police Post or station, are supposed to have a standby force twenty four hours a day and seven days a week to react to any call of distress in their area of responsibility.

Secondly, the Police counter (desk) at every Police Station/ Post, must be manned by a Police officer twenty four hours a day and seven days a week so that when a member of Public, under attack by Criminals, rings, there is somebody to receive the call without any delay and, then, promptly inform either the OC station or even the in- charge of the reaction force to re-act immediately.

Thirdly, through the Local radios, all members of the Public in the locality should be informed about the telephone numbers of the nearby Police Post/ Station that they should ring in case of need.

All these steps are easy to audit because of the modern technology. All this is possible and easy to implement even with the old Police methods.

We have now added cameras. Kampala- Wakiso and Mukono are now covered- within eight months, the whole Country will be covered. The Police will be able to watch the activities peaceful and unpeaceful- in the whole Country as far as the highways (major roads) and towns are concerned. Off the major roads, we shall use other methods.

We are, however, going to add other methods soon. Take, for example, the technology of the digital beacons in every vehicle and every piki piki. It will soon be rolled out. The criminals are an endangered species, I can assure you. Also endangered are the Police personnel or members of other security agencies who try to cover up these Criminals. It will be easy to audit and expose them. They will be arrested, charged, sentenced and dismissed from the security services and never to work for any Government department or Local Government forever. They are traitors. If you harm or fail to protectUgandans, starting with the Bazzukulu, you disqualify yourself from Public trust.

I sent out a message in my enshugyi (ancestral cattle- not gift from friends- empaano- not those you bought engabirano). I sent it to the general channels that you call platforms. There is no harm in that because I saw the interesting comments from the Bazzukulu and other social-media users. I thank those who appreciated. I may not list their names here but I thank them. I am always in the Resistance Movement against everything that is anti- African.

In the 1950s and 1960s, the uninformed and shallow Colonial Veterinary staff and even other elements of the Colonial elite, started saying that the Indegenous cattle of Uganda (Sanga and zebu- enkoromoijo) were neither good for milk nor for beef. They were giving little milk and had poor beef. As a cattle owner, I knew that that was alot of nonsense. Yes, some of the Ankole cattle are low milk-yielders. They are called ebipampara. Hence, cattle names like Kapampara, kipampara.

However, others were high milkers. Understandably, the traditional cattle owners, sometimes, preferred ebipampara to the high milkers. Why? On account of the shortage of water and the need for the cattle to walk fast and go far- big distances daily to look for water.

High milkers, with a big udder, cannot easily walk fast or go far. That might have been the dilemma for the traditional farmers. Fortunately, in some of the areas of the cattle corridor, there is a lot of water. These are areas like Ntungamo, Igara, Sheema, Rukungiri, parts of Ibanda etc. Anyway, since I originate from Ntungamo, I was aware of the two lines within the Sanga breed: the high milkers and low milkers (ebimpampara). I could, therefore, not accept the colonial nonsense.

Along the way, scientific proof came in that the Sanga cattle meat is the best in the world because it had yellow fat as opposed to the white fat of most cattle in the World that has got cholesterol. The milk is also better than that of the exotic breeds because it has a higher butter content of 5.25% to 10% compared to that one of the exotics of 3.7% to 4.5%. It is, therefore, good for the Ugandans generally and the Bazzukulu, in particular, to know these facts of our heritage.

Otherwise, the message of the cattle was directed at the cattle- breeders so as to discuss how to enhance the efforts.

The responders had requests of cattle to be given to them and others wanted to pay a visit to the farm etc. Organizationally, it is not wise to arrange cattle gifts or visits to the farm through social media. It will distort the use of social- media. The social- media should, in my opinion, remain a forum for the exchange of ideas.

Organizational matters should be handled in the normal way. There is, for instance, the myooga Sacco, saccos based on the respective specialized activities (obuheesi, okubaija, okunogoora, ICT such as BPOs, boda bodas, hair- salons, garments, food- processing etc etc).

Minister Kasolo can give more information on these. Through those, if you the members make them work well, we can implement the good ideas we shall have distilled through social- media interactions.

Some of the responders were negative. Retire, they shouted at me. That will be decided by our Party, the NRM and the People of Uganda.

Others wondered how me posing with my cattle helps the unemployed Bazzukulu. It surely, helps those who want to learn by example. I started looking after those cattle when I was 9 in 1954. When I accessed modern education, I did not use it to go to night clubs in Europe, I used to semi- modernize the animal husbandry of those cattle among several engagements.

All my children, except Muhoozi, after their education, did not go into Public Service jobs. They are in the Private Sector, starting with the cattle industry. In the last 120 years of Colonialism and thereafter, none of my parents- uncles etc were in the Public Service.

There is life without working for the Public Service. My involvement with the political struggles is for historical missions of patriotism (loving Uganda), Pan- Africanism (loving Africa), social-economic transformation and democracy. Why? It is for prosperity through the integration of the markets, for strategic security and fraternity in Africa. How many of you on the Social- media are contributing to that direction of thinking?

It is those concepts that will help us to solve the issue of jobs. Do you see how many Bazzukulu are in the factories, for example, the ones I recently commissioned (Balaji Group, Premier Distillers, Simi Mobile and Computer manufacturing plant, among others?

These Bazzukulu are working in these factories that are using the raw- materials of Uganda and that are benefitting from the market of Uganda, EAC and COMESA.

One of the contributors thought that I looked tired. I am not tired at all. I have, however, deliberately lost weight by shedding off that fat that I had allowed to accumulate on my body frame because the doctors had not explained to us clearly the mistake of not fighting fat.

In future, I will explain to you this awareness. I have moved from 106 kgs to now 76kgs. I will stabilize my weight at 76kgs because that is the one that matches with my height of 5.7 feet.

Before I talk about the anti-obesity campaign, however, in my next message I will talk about education in order to put in focus the recent strike at Makerere.

One of the negative contributors said I had made a tarmac road for my cattle while other Ugandans have no accessible roads. Wrong. One reason I bought land in the Kisozi area in 1990 was because it was far away from tarmac roads. One reason I bought land in Rwakitura in 1967 was because it was very far away from the tarmac roads.

In fact, there was no road of any description in that area except the nearly impassable Kazo-Lyantonde and Rushere-Kinoni. Cattle do not need nor do they eat tarmac. They eat grass and drink water. The tarmac road you saw in the picture is not for the cattle but for the People of Butambala, Gomba, Ssembabule , Masaka etc.

Soon somebody will be able to come from Kabale and go to South Sudan without going through Masaka or Kampala. It is for the connectivity of your Country.

I, again, thank the huge number of the responders that appreciated the cattle of the heritage of Africa and my humble and modest contribution in breeding them.

Every woman CEO should apply to the Apple Entrepreneur Camp – Fast Company

Posted: December 2, 2019 at 2:45 am

In 2019, I was accepted into one of the first cohorts for the Apple Entrepreneur Campthe companys new hands-on mentorship program for companies founded and led by women. The experience has changed my life.

Before starting at the camp, I was no newbie when it comes to app development. Since 2016, Ive been the founder and CEO of BetterMea health and fitness platform with millions of downloads, users, and equally substantial annual recurring revenue. One of our apps has even reached the top 5 in the App Stores Health & Fitness category. Our goals were and remain sky-high: To empower everyone to get into shape regardless of where they are today.

Ive never sought out a mentor before, apart from getting occasional advice from former bosses or investors. But I am insatiably curious by nature, and the desire to learn from the best made me look into mentorship opportunities and eventually led me to the Apple Entrepreneur Camp.

Apple started its first Entrepreneur Camp in January 2019 as a way to help women succeed in building the next generation of cutting-edge apps and create a global community that would encourage women to realize their entrepreneurial ideas.

The camp is roughly a week long and completely free. During that time, you attend lectures to learn the intricacies of Apples approach to app development, meet and get inspired by its executives, and work with one of the companys top engineers, who provides personalized advice on your strategy and roadmap.

Victoria Repa [Photo: courtesy of Victoria Repo]To get this level of attention from Apple, you might think you need to be a top performer already. But the selection approach is purposefully inclusive for female founders and CEOs. The only other requirement is that you have a female developer on your teamand of course that you have an app or a functional prototype that you can demo live.

New cohorts for the Apple Entrepreneur Camp are assembled every quarter, with applications accepted on a rolling basis. Youll be judged on your answers in the application form, your knowledge of and commitment to Apples platform and technologies, and the uniqueness of your app.

Although the success of BetterMe could have played a role in the selection, I wasnt sure if Apple would consider our health and fitness platform unique. In my application, I tried to elevate the universality of our features and demonstrate how they bring us closer to the mission of making weight loss accessible to everyone, especially beginners.

Luckily, I was accepted, along with about 20 other women CEOs and app developersand thus began an opportunity that would fundamentally change how I view my business. Heres what I learned in just one week of the Entrepreneur Camp.

My first takeaway wasnt one I had expected: the inspiration that comes with being surrounded by other women leaders, all striving to create outstanding products. Coming from Ukraine, where gender inequality in leadership positions is strong, it was empowering to see other female CEOs in action and hear how theyve tackled similar problems.

After the camp, the relationships have only grown strongeryou get access to the alumni forum, where you can hear from other cohorts, share your issues, and receive valuable peer-to-peer feedback.

In addition, the connections made with Apple developers and executives never go away. They might even become the most valuable mentors youve ever had.

Everyone in our group had built apps before, both well-known and niche. Most of us were always concerned about blitzscaling, outsmarting the competition, and shipping lots of features. It seemed like the way to win, until we learned the Apple way.

I learned that everything Apple does is in service to emotion and its by far the top criterion for decision making. One of the most memorable examples we were told was Apples decision to change the iPhone sizes. The result is not necessarily the most ergonomic or convenient for everyone, but the one thousands of people tested and said felt right.

From left: Livia Cunha, Nan Toumanian, and Tatevik Gasparyan are part of the inaugural class of Apple Entrepreneur Camp attendees arriving at Apple Park. [Photo: courtesy of Apple]Simplicity is another one of Apples maximsessential to adhere to when youre trying to create a mass-market product. Apple maintains that to make something intuitive you need to make it simple.

Learning from Apples top engineers and executives who are presenting right in front of you is humbling. You see whats going on inside what I consider to be most inspirational company in the world.

For Apple, the company is also a product, one that you continuously improve and iterate upon. If the company-product is robust, only then you can build apps that capture the market.

As a company, Apple says it aims to be quick to admit mistakes, pivot, and reallocate resources. The earlier you can do this with your own startup, the better the results will be.

Similarly, the values of Emotion and Simplicity are expressed throughout the whole company. Apples campus completely supports the wellbeing of everyone coming there every day, and just a single look at the Apple Store can show you how beautiful simplicity can be.

When I came back from the Apple Entrepreneur Camp, it was impossible to continue working the way I used to. Even though I documented everything I learned thoroughly, I pushed hard to implement all my new ideas while they were still fresh in my head.

We started actively cultivating the feelings of confidence and calm among our users. While most fitness apps push you to go, go, go, and hustle, we have realized that keeping our users motivated also means creating an inviting and positive space.

Weve also made user interests a priority. When you have investors or frequently disclose your metrics, its tempting to come up with crafty patterns that would increase user retention or time spent in the app.

Now, were building a solution that will help raise user awareness for healthy and sustainable fitness goals, but at the same time build a gamified plan and get them excited about making measured progress every day.

We are also working on making the app more exciting. I realized that excitement creates not just a better experience for users, but is crucial for weight loss. Shaking off extra pounds is a tiresome and often frustrating process. Something like gamification and interactive design can motivate people to stick to their weight loss routine and help them achieve their goals.

And thats just the beginning. Im still amazed at how life-changing one week of hard work at the Apple Entrepreneur Camp can be for a female CEO.

Victoria Repa is the cofounder and CEO of BetterMe.

Quotes: What the Giants had to say following the loss to Green Bay – Giants.com

Posted: December 2, 2019 at 2:45 am

Q: How was it playing in the snow? A: It was fun, I would rather play in the snow than the rain, to be honest. We went out and fought, it would have been a lot better if we won. Unfortunately, we played a great team, especially with a heck of a player in number 12. They got the job done, so give respect to them. Playing in the snow for the first time, it was fun.

Q: You talked a lot this week about getting over the hump and not using the injury as an excuse. We saw some of those runs break out a little bit today. Do you feel like you are getting back into a rhythm? A: Yeah, definitely getting back into a rhythm. I think the offensive line did a great job of establishing the line of scrimmage. We just got behind in points and when you get behind in points, you try not to go away from the run game but that naturally happens. We have to find a way to start earlier and get ahead so we can get the run game going. I know if that was the case we could have had a game in our hands.

Q: You mentioned your respect for Aaron Rodgers. You guys exchanged jerseys at the end of the game, was there a memorable moment? A: It was nice having a conversation, I met him before. Im a big fan of him, I think anyone growing up is a big fan of Aaron Rodgers. He came up with some good advice after the game, he told me to stick with it, keep grinding. He told me there is a C on my chest for a reason, keep believing and we ended up trading jerseys. Thats definitely one of the best ones I have in my jersey collection.

Q: How frustrating is it that the scores arent letting you be a part of the game in the fourth quarter? You cant have your regular impact when you are down 11 points. A: I agree and disagree with that. When the other team is up, you try not to run away from the running game but it naturally happens. I dont envision myself as just an inside the box running back. I think I can catch the ball out of the backfield, catch screens, make plays with stuff like that. I dont feel like Im out of the game. I have to continue to keep my eyes open, be ready for blitz protection and try to get to spots where, if need be, Im there for DJ. At the end of the day, if thats the case where we need to go away from the run, we still have to find a way to make plays in other areas and we just didnt do that enough this game and, to be honest, the whole season.

Q: How do you feel about eight straight losses, thats half the season? A: Its crazy, its upsetting, its frustrating, it sucks. I know I sound like a broken record, but I promise when this thing turns around, Im going to sound like a genius. We have to continue to keep working. Even though our record is 2-10, you have to come into the building like you are 10-2. That cant change, your attitude cant change, your work ethic cant change. I talked to these guys and we have to keep fighting, theres better days ahead. I know I sound like a broken record and everyone is probably going to roll their eyes, saying here he goes again, but when it happens, its going to be a beautiful thing.

Q: Coach Shurmur keeps saying theres progress being made behind the scenes. You are obviously optimistic you can turn this around, where is that optimism coming from? What do you see Monday through Saturday that makes you believe you guys are so close? A: You guys only get to come in for like 10 minutes right, which I agree with. If you guys were able to stay the whole time, we practice like we are 10-2. Its our work ethic, if you were able to come in and watch us in the weight room and the attention to details in meetings, its all there. Obviously, I have the better point of view to able to see that and say that. Its all there, but for some strange reason its just not translating to the game right now. Thats what sucks, because when you work hard for something and you are putting in the time and the effort and things arent going your way, it sucks. Its easy to cry about it, cry and go hide in the corner, but you have to figure it out. Thats what we have to do, we have to figure it out. We have four games left to try to make it into a season that were proud of. Take it one game at a time and that starts with Philly and try to find a way to get a win and good things will come.

Q: What does it say about this group that despite the adversity you guys are sticking together? A: Thats important, thats why I believe this thing is going to turn around. I know we have that in the locker room with this group of guys. Thats going to be helpful in the future. Like I said, things just arent going our way right now. I know we are frustrated, coaches are frustrated, fans are frustrated, everyone is frustrated. It starts there, you have to keep doing that, keep hammering the little things, keep paying attention to details and find a way to turn it on on Sundays and Mondays. Things arent going our way and it sucks but we have to stick with it and we are doing that right now. When we do figure it out, I do believe its going to be a great thing.

Q: Is it hard to hear the Go Pack go chants? A: Yeah, that sucks. Were 2-10 right now, you kind of expect it, I guess. They are a playoff team, they are a great team. Ive never played at Green Bay, but you hear about the great fans they have. Kudos to them, we just have to play better.

Q: Do you think the structure is in place from the top down to get to the point where you will win? A: Yes, I do believe. We have not only the right guys on the team but the right guys on our staff to get it done. I just know it. Obviously, its not going our way right now. The same way our guys in the locker room come to work every day, those guys are working their butts off upstairs to put us into positions to win games. They are going to keep hammering at it and we have to keep hammering at it. Hopefully those things turn around.

Q: Today was one of Daniels tougher games, what did you see from him as far as coming back from adversity? A: I talked to him on the sideline (and said), hey, it happened. Everyone wants to go out there and play their best game, but thats not the case. He threw the picks, thats growing pains and things you will learn from. I know I said earlier in the week, I think he is going to be a special player. I dont think I know he is going to be a special player. I still think he made a lot of plays for us out there and put us in positions to win the game. Those plays are growing pains and he is going to learn from it. Eli went through it, Im pretty sure Aaron Rodgers went through it at one point. Any great quarterback you can think of, Im pretty sure they went through it. He has to keep sticking with it and the type of mindset he has and the type of grit he has, he is going to figure it out.

Q: Nine straight losses is the longest in this teams history and you are on the cusp of that. When you hear that, what do you think? A: No one goes into the game planning on losing. Hearing that or not hearing that, no matter what, we are trying go into the next week trying to get a win. Lets go figure it out from here, watch film, break down this game, put it in the past. Move on from it but also learn from it and get ready for our next game so hopefully we dont tie that record.

If Weight Loss Is Your Only Goal for Exercise, Its Time to Rethink Your Priorities – The Epoch Times

As an aesthetic society, we oftendemonize body fatand stigmatize people with lots of it. Theres often an assumption that people carrying excess weight dont exercise and must be unhealthy.

But thats not true: you can be fatandfit. In fact, as we age,low levels of fitness can be more harmful to our healththan high amounts of fat.

For those considering starting exercise, try looking beyond weight loss for motivation. No matter how much you weigh, there are always benefits to exercise.

Exercise actually does apretty poor jobof getting us to expend enough excess energy to lose weight. This is partly due to acompensatory effectof our appetite, which increases after we exercise.

Exercise changes how much fat we have as a ratio to how much lean muscle tissue we have, but this doesnt always cause big changes on the scales.

Here are five ways exercise improves our health, no matter how much we weigh.

Cardiorespiratory fitness is a measure of how far and hard you can run without needing to stop, or how many stairs you can climb without being out of breath. Running for longer, or climbing more stairs, means you have a higher absolute cardiorespiratory fitness, which cannot be improved with weight loss alone.

Having a high body mass index (BMI)mayreduce the absolute intensity you can exercise but it doesnt mean it is less effective.

You may be able to jog between every third lamppost, for example, but not run consistently for 1 kilometer. While it may seem the periodic jogging is not as impressive, its all relative to your baseline and any exercise is better than none.

If youre carrying a lot of excess weight, you might prefer non-weight-bearing exercise such as swimming or cycling indoors to minimize stress on your joints, but this will depend on you and what you like doing. After all, youremore likely to continueexercising if you enjoy it.

If youre thinking but I hate running/swimming/cycling/dancing and Id rather lift weights, then lift weights! Although lifting weights doesnt have the same effects as cardio training, the benefits are still as important for mobility, joint function, and maintaining muscle mass as we age.

Exercisereduces the riskof heart disease and stroke, even in those with a chronic disease such as diabetes, irrespective of body fatness.

Regular exercisehelps lowerblood pressure, improves delivery of blood throughout the body, and reduces inflammation, even in those with a high body mass index.

Exercise improves our bodys ability to use energy. We store large amounts of energy as fat, which is quite hard to break down, as it costs a lot of oxygen compared to cheaper fuels for the body to use like glucose.

But when we exercise regularly, weincrease our bodys abilityto use fat as a fuel source as well asrequiring more energyat rest.

This doesnt necessarily mean more exercise equals more fat loss, but it does mean more fat turnover and typically less fat stored in and around the organs (the bad visceral fat).

Research hasconsistently shownthat people who exercise (regardless of body size and shape) havebetter mental healthand lower levels of stress, depression, and emotional problems.

It does this via blood flow to the brain, increased release of endorphins that make us feel happy, and by helping to moderate the brains response to stress.

Often, the hardest part is getting started with exercise or going to perform the exercise, but once you are moving, the mental health benefits begin.

While exercise may not help us lose a lot of weight on the scales, its agood wayto keep weight off and prevent weight regain.

Regular exercise continues to encourage the body to use stored fuels and remodel tissues (such as muscle) to grow healthier and stronger.

But preventing weight regain is tough. People who have lost weightmay need greater amounts of exerciseto counteract the physiological drive to return to the heavier body weight.

If you need some extra help getting started or finding a routine that suits you, talk to your general practitioner or consider seeing anaccredited exercise physiologist.

Concerned with health costs? Take this 5-day health challenge | TheHill – The Hill

Posted: December 2, 2019 at 2:45 am

The top Democratic presidential candidates continue to include health-care concerns for Americans as a priority, while recent research shows most Americans, or 69 percent, are also concerned about health-care costs.

Yet, many Americans do not see the connection between health and weight or other factors they can control. A 2019Cleveland Clinic survey shows 88 percent of those surveyed understand the link between healthy weight and heart health, yet 43 percent of Americans have tried to make dietary changes. to lose weight and 40 percent of those who describe themselves as overweight or obese say they aren't careful about which foods they eat.

As a family physician and obesity medicine specialist, heres my recommended five-day challenge to learn about your own health and take steps to care for yourself.

While social media is bombarding us with reminders of counting down to the holidays, perhaps it is time for every American to take five days to count up to better health.

Day 1

Schedule your physical with your primary care provider or find one if you do not already have one. Your primary care provider gets to know you over time and can help make sure you are up to date on your vaccines and screening tests or you can check this page.

Your primary care provider is there to get to know you over time and to help you in health and in sickness. Find out if there are choices you can make to improve or treat your personal medical concerns and health risks.

Day 2

Learn what your weight means. Recognize this is a simple way to check if you are at higher risk of health problems. This means you need to know your BMI (body mass index) and notice if your waist size has been growing larger. You can measure your height and weight to calculate your BMI. [Use this page if calculating BMI for someone under 20 years old.]

For instance, in adults, a BMI of 25 or more is a diagnosis of overweight and a BMI of 30 or more, is a diagnosis of obesity. In the United States, more than two out of every three adults are diagnosed with overweight or obesity.

Know that as BMI increases, there are increased risks of health problems such as high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, fatty liver, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, depression, infertility, as well as many cancers. There is also increased risk of dying younger. In 2017, the Cleveland Clinic presented data showing obesity is the number one cause of preventable death.

As an adult, if your waist is getting larger and you are not pregnant, your risk factors for insulin resistance, pre-diabetes and diabetes is increased and healthy weight loss will decrease those risks. In fact, we now know that some cases of diabetes can be reversed with consistent healthier lifestyle choices.

If your health would benefit from healthy weight loss, avoiding sweetened and highly processed foods and drinks, increasing activity, decreasing the duration of sitting, improving sleep, reducing stress and adjusting (if possible) any medications that cause weight gain with your health care team are all ways to impact your weight.

If you are considering a medically-supervised weight loss program, know what to look for in a healthy weight loss program or you can find a board-certified Obesity Medicine Specialist to help you on your journey.

Day 3

Learn about your medications, vitamins and supplements, if you are taking any. Gather all of your medications, vitamins and supplements. Throw out the ones that are expired. Make a list of the medications you are taking regularly and write down why you are (supposed to be) taking each one. If you do not know why you are taking a medication, put a question mark next to it so you can learn about it when you see your pharmacist.

Next to each medication, note if it is helpful, not helpful, or if you cannot notice. Take this list with you when you go to see your primary care provider. Talk with your provider about the medications that are not helpful or that you cannot tell if they are helpful. See if there are alternatives or if they can be discontinued and how to do so if appropriate.

Day 4

Understand that the most powerful health-promoting thing you can do for yourself is to increase your activity. Sit less and move more. Get up from sitting, frequently. Find activities you like to do that require more movement. Exercise is important in the prevention and treatment of mood disorders, sleep disorders, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis, as well as prevent falls, prevent many cancers, and prevent sarcopenia (loss of muscle leading to frailty and other health problems). Aim to work up to a minimum total of 15 minutes of daily walking. One prospective cohort study looked at over 400,000 people in Taiwan and found that a minimum of 15 minutes of exercise daily resulted in living three years longer.

Day 5

Create a routine to engage your senses. Examples include spending time with loved ones or finding ways to build new connections with others. Also, time spent with pets, in nature and/or engaging with the arts can calm the mind and provide healing as it connects us to the positive energy around us.

Health education is a lifelong endeavor. Its easy to get caught up in daily work and dramas and forget about self-care, particularly at busy times of year. But optimizing health can start with five days of deliberate action and that can start now.

With sheer determination and willpower, she reversed the damage and shed a whopping 40 kilos in ten months. To know how she did it, read her story here:Name: Shruti GadiyarOccupation: PsychologistAge: 27

Height: 161cm

City: Mumbai

Highest weight recorded: 120 kilosWeight lost: 40 kilos

Duration it took me to lose weight: 10 months

The turning point: I was always obsessed with my weight and getting back in shape. However, we all know that it is easier said than done. I suffered from several sleepless nights just thinking about it or researching things. One fine day, I decided this was it, I had to take a step forward and do what's necessary. After this day, I never looked back.

My breakfast: Poha/Upma/Dosa/Idli Breakfasts are always light and nutritious. Poha, upma, dosa or idli are my go-to staples.

My lunch: I prefer homemade food and avoid outside food as much as I can. Subji made at home, along with two rotis and dahi fill me up.

My dinner: I make sure that I cut out carbs from my evening meals. I usually have something like soup or salad. I relish eating cheat meals once a week. So when I get to enjoy my off day, I have something like chaat, cheese sandwich or a slice of pizza.Pre-workout meal: Dry fruits

Post-workout meal: Any source of protein like paneer, chickpeas or chicken. I wasn't fond of shakes so avoid them altogether.

My workout: HIIT has helped me lose weight for good. I picked up running and run for around 3 kilometers every day at a stretch. I also do some strength training exercises along with my running regime.

Low-calorie recipes I swear by:Salads and soups aren't as boring as we think! They have become my go-to favorite now. Apart from this, I am extremely grateful for my mom's cooking. She manages to make every healthy meal in a tasty way, it doesn't feel I am on a diet.

Fitness secrets I unveiled: I have discovered that portion control and moderation work a great deal in maintaining a stable weight. I make it a point to eat every two hours. Apart from that, I am extremely consistent with my workout regime and do not miss it for even a day.

How do I stay motivated? I look back at how far I have come already and I feel I still have a long way to go. Now that I have transformed, people have started to compliment me which doesn't stop. The support from friends and family is motivating enough. So many people tell me that I am an inspiration for them and this alone is helpful enough to keep me going whenever I feel low or feel like skipping the gym.

How do you ensure you dont lose focus? I set weekly workout targets for myself. In fact, working out has become a daily ritual for me, just like brushing my teeth. It is not something I can even think of skipping!Whats the most difficult part of being overweight? I suffered from bouts of low self-esteem and lethargy. I didn't feel like doing anything and soon enough, this turned into a vicious cycle. This for me was the most difficult part.

What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line? A fit woman who wouldn't have to compromise on playing with her little one someday because of physical inability to do so.

RHOC Emily Simpson Shows Off Her Recent Weight Loss And Gives Post-Surgery Update – Celebrity Insider

Posted: December 2, 2019 at 2:45 am

Real Housewives of Orange County star Emily Simpson has been open and honest about her struggles with depression, chronic pain, and body issues after she reached her highest weight ever earlier this year. And now, Simpson is sharing her success after she took some major steps toward getting healthy.

Simpson revealed on Instagram back in October that she was undergoing hip replacement surgery later that month so she could move pain free. She added that the new Emily cant wait to run, jump, workout, walk a catwalk, and dance. The 43-year-old also explained in the comments that she was having the surgery because her arthritis had led to her having no cartilage in her left hip.

The pain was so bad that she stopped exercising and living an active life. At the same time, she confessed to being so busy that she often found herself in a drive-thru ordering tacos. RHOC fans have watched Simpson struggle with her weight this season. And, in a recent episode she broke down after stepping on the scale for the first time in a while.

Emilys husband Shane Simpson wasnt much help at least in front of Bravo cameras because he made fun of his wife for being on a diet, and teased her with bread even though she refused.

Everything with Shane is a joke, said Emily. But, this is a serious issue.

Now that the surgery is behind her, Simpson says that surgery is no joke, and now she understands the toll it takes on your body. She compared it to running a marathon, and said that its important to prepare with specific nutrition before and after.

While I may not be running 26.2 anytime soon, the new me is SO excited to get into shape and run around with my kids again. Watch out, the catwalk is calling! wrote Simpson.

She also revealed in a separate post that she has lost 15 pounds since starting a 12-week exercise program created by Paulina Taylor Hefferan, who she reached out to for help. Simpson said that she had no idea where to start when she realized she weighed more than she ever had in her life, and she felt lost.

She [Heffaran] helped me change my lifestyle and has taught me so much about balance. She has also encouraged me to not give up and keep going, wrote Simpson in the caption of a full-body pic. Not only did I want to lose weight to feel and look better, but I wanted to be healthier and set a good example for my kids!

Simpson added that she hasnt felt this good in a long time. And now that she has a new hip and is down 15 pounds, she is finally able to keep up with her kids and be more active.
