Weight Loss: Eating from blue plates and other bizarre diet tricks – Times of India

Posted: May 20, 2022 at 1:44 am

It is said that eating in front of a mirror, makes you self-conscious and reminds you of your weight-loss goals, thereby making you eat within limits. One study found dining in front of mirrors cut the amount people ate by nearly one-third. Apart from controlling your portion, the mirror is especially helpful if you are going to eat something high on calories.

In a taste test study, published in the Journal of the Association for Consumer Research, 185 undergraduate students chose between a chocolate cake and a fruit salad and then evaluated its taste in a room with a mirror or with no mirrors around. Those who selected the chocolate cake rated it less tasty in the room with a mirror compared to those with no mirrors around. Interestingly, too, the presence of a mirror did not change the taste of the fruit salad.

Successful Weight Loss: Scientists Show That It Might All Be in Your Head – SciTechDaily

Wake Forest University School of Medicine researchers discovered that two specific brain networks can greatly impact how successful a person is at losing weight.

According to the studys principal investigator, Dr. Jonathan Burdette, professor of radiology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, these findings, published in the April edition of the journal Obesity, may eventually aid in the development of tailored behavior-based treatments that target specific brain circuitry to aid in weight loss.

The goal of this study was to determine whether the degree of weight loss after six months of a behavior-based intervention was related to connectivity within two functional networks (FNs), FN1 and FN2, in a group of older adults with obesity. Functional brain networks are areas of the brain that are working together in sync.

FN1 and FN2 were first identified by Burdette and his team in 2018 as being involved in successful weight loss.

These findings show that the brain network properties of people who were less successful at weight loss were different from folks who were more successful. Dr. Jonathan Burdette

In this study, 71 participants enrolled in a randomized weight-loss clinical trial were scanned at the beginning of the trial with functional magnetic resonance imaging to determine if FN1 and FN2 would be predictive of weight loss and if so how. Participants were scanned during a resting state and then again after receiving a food-cue task. At the end of the six-month trial, the data were then analyzed to compare the relationships between the baseline networks and the change in the participants weight.

Burdettes team found that during the resting state the relationship of brain function in FN1, which involves sensory and motor skills, was significantly associated with six-month weight loss. During the food-cue state, six-month weight loss was significantly associated with FN2, which includes self-regulation and the ability to focus attention.

Two distinct brain network biases are related to the degree of success with weight loss: within the resting state, there is a sensory motor motivational bias to pursue food, whereas when processing food cues, there is a deficit in the executive control and attention network.

These findings show that the brain network properties of people who were less successful at weight loss were different from folks who were more successful, Burdette said. Some people have a stronger unconscious sensory motor bias to pursue food, while others appear to have less. In a society of food abundance with food cues everywhere, this information can help explain why some people have such difficulty in taking off excess weight and maintaining it.

This is the first study to link key concepts that have been identified as important in understanding obesity and overeating to success with behavioral weight loss among older adults with obesity.

Our findings provide further insight into complex functional circuits in the brain so we now have a mechanistic understanding of why people arent losing weight, Burdette said. In theory, if you know more about urges and control, we will be able to tailor therapies to an individual as opposed to treating everyone the same.

Funding for the study was provided by the Institute on Aging (R01AG051624-03S2); the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (R18 HL076441); the NationalInstitute on Aging (P30 AG021332), the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (R01EB024559), and the Wake Forest Clinical and Translational Science Institute (UL1TR001420).

Do Weight Loss Shakes Work? Everything You Need To Consider – Dailyuw

Posted: May 20, 2022 at 1:44 am

If youre on a fitness journey, you have goals for what you hope to get out of your workouts. Maybe you want to build muscle, increase your stamina, or simply enjoy the stress-relieving action of working out. But since youve come to this page, youre probably also interested in losing weight and wondering if you can use weight loss shakes to accelerate your weight loss journey.

The short answer is yes; weight loss shakes are a great addition to your diet when coupled with regular exercise! Weight loss shakes made with weight loss protein powder can help you lower your fat percentage and get nice lean muscle instead. Well walk you through how protein powder works for weight loss, choosing the right product, and finally, incorporating it into a weight loss shake.

Protein powders are not all made alike. Its confusing when standing in a health food store or browsing online. How can you know which one is the best? The answer is what makes protein powders different!

Protein Bases

Protein powders can be made with plant based protein or whey protein. sPlant-based powders' protein comes from multiple sources, including peas, soy, chia, quinoa, hemp, and rice. Whey protein isnt vegan, as it contains lactose. Therefore, selecting the protein base you want is essential.

Protein Extraction Method

You also want to consider how the protein was extracted. For instance, whey protein concentrate is different from whey protein isolate because the concentrate version contains a small percentage of fats and carbs in the mix. In contrast, the isolate version is more condensed at about 90-95 percent protein. Then theres also whey protein hydrolysate, a more digestible way to consume protein and micellar casein, which releases protein slowly throughout the day or night.

Ingredient Lists

Also, choose a protein powder with an ingredient list you feel good about putting in your body. Often, protein powders include other additives that you may like the taste but not the impact. These can consist of artificial sweeteners, artificial flavoring, thickening agents, dairy, gluten, or preservatives; however, blends can also have added vitamins, minerals, or natural flavoring that do improve them. Always look at the nutrition facts to see whats in your protein powder. Finding a brand you trust that puts your health and fitness goals first ensures youll have an easy time picking your products in the future.

Now you know about the different types of protein powder and how to choose your product, but why exactly do you need protein in the first place? What does it do, and does it help with weight loss?

Protein is a macronutrient found in foods that your body uses as an energy source and as a way to keep your bones and muscles healthy and strong. Protein builds muscles, making it a great addition to your diet when youre strength training. But protein also builds and repairs your bones and tissues, so even if you arent getting enough exercise, you still need protein for the strength and durability of your limbs. Protein powder is a fantastic way to ensure youre getting enough protein each day.

Protein helps with weight loss in various ways, and one of the most delicious methods for getting your protein powder intake is to blend your weight loss protein powder into a shake. First, choose a protein powder specifically formulated to offer weight loss support through carefully selected ingredients and low calories (and no artificial sweeteners or fillers). You can then blend it with nutrient-rich foods like fruits, veggies, oats, and nut butter.

Weight loss shakes made with protein powder work for a few different reasons, according to how protein helps. First, protein suppresses appetite the most by quashing the hunger hormone out of the three macronutrients (protein, fats, and carbs). Feeling other hunger cravings between meals is an easy way to fill up with the wrong kinds of foods accidentally. And since protein powder increases muscle mass over time (which increases your resting metabolism), it helps you get to a point where youre burning more calories due to your bodys composition. Not only that, but eating lots of protein allows you to burn off more carbs and fats, so you dont store weight.

Weight loss shakes work because they utilize the power of protein, a substance that helps to decrease your hunger and increase your metabolism so you can accelerate your weight loss. Sipping on delicious protein powder shakes each day is an enjoyable and effective way to boost your weight loss results.

The Eating Habit James Corden Swears By That Helped Him Lose Weight Eat This Not That – Eat This, Not That

Posted: May 20, 2022 at 1:44 am

A jack of all trades, James Corden is mostly known for his acting career and hosting his late-night talk show where he jams out to carpool karaoke with celebrities and reenacts musicals on crosswalks. His comedic personality is what shines, however, he has been making news for his incredible weight loss journey.

Recently, the British icon has had a six-stone weight loss. Each stone is equivalent to 14 pounds, totaling Corden's weight loss to about 84 pounds. How does he do it? According to his interview with The Sun, Corden limits his eating to a timeframe.

Restricting your eating timeframe is also referred to as intermittent fasting. Specifically, Corden uses daily time-restricted fasting, which allows him to eat normally, but only within a window of time per day.

"I don't eat until 12," he tells The Sun.

Along with this fasting method, Corden tries to eat cleanly. During the interview, he was seen drinking a 15-calorie, sugar-free, health drink loaded with vitamins, and announced he ate an apple that morning.

However, although he chooses healthier options, Corden stresses the importance of still enjoying foods and not restricting the types of food he eats.

"I try to eat healthily and not deprive myself," he tells The Sun.

Corden continues to say that he does not like the mentality of dieting, as it feels limited. According to him, the idea of going on a diet is "everything that is wrong" because you are most likely going to return to how you were before.

In the past, Corden has talked about losing weight through WW (formerly known as Weight Watchers). Now, he is partnering with the company because he has enjoyed the WW process.6254a4d1642c605c54bf1cab17d50f1e

Corden believes that in the WW program, you don't have to cut any foods out. Instead, you're becoming aware of what you're adding to your body. This makes you think before you eat, trying not to eat foods with too many ingredients. Because of this, you can have a bad week and not beat yourself up about it. Instead, you know not to revert to the eating habits you had that week.

Along with the eating habits that helped him lose weight, Corden boxes with his trainer most mornings. He also recently completed a four-day transcendental meditation course allowing him to settle his body down to a "state of restful alertness".

"You do a course, then at the end of it, you have these tools where, every day, you give yourself 20 minutes of silence to let your thoughts be whatever they are, and I've found that very, very beneficial," Corden was quoted to say.

Lori Harvey Says She Was Eating 1,200 Calories Per Day to Lose Weight Here’s Why That’s Not OK – POPSUGAR

Posted: May 20, 2022 at 1:44 am

Image Source: Getty / Dimitrios Kambouris

For a while now, the diet industry has recommended eating 1,200 calories a day to lose weight. And despite a larger societal shift to denounce diet culture, this number has seemed to stick around. Many "what I eat in a day" TikTok videos show influencers eating this amount. Diet plans like Noom restrict their clients to 1,200 calories a day. And celebrities like Lori Harvey openly speak out about only consuming 1,200 calories as their way to lose weight.

In a recent TikTok video, which has reached almost 1.5 million views, the 25-year-old celeb and model talked about how she gained "relationship weight" when she first started dating Michael B. Jordan. She then went on to explain how she lost that weight and "got the body" everyone has since been obsessing over.

Heres the tea! #pilates #fitness #workoutroutine #bodygoal #fyp

"So I've been consistently doing Pilates for like the last year. I've done it for a few years, but I've been really consistent the last year. And when I was trying to drop weight, I was working out like five, six times a week, and I would even do, for the first month and a half, I would even do two-a-days," Harvey says. "I think I was consuming like 1,200 calories in a day, max. I was trying to do like meat and veggies and like minimal carbs."

Absolutely not. For starters, 1,200 calories per day is the recommended intake for toddlers. The average adult needs between 1,600 and 3,200 calories per day, according to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. This range depends on various factors, including your typical activity level, how often you're working out, your age, etc. Even the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics notes that "if you are very active throughout the day, the high end of the range may be more reflective of your needs." Based on Harvey's two-a-day workouts, it's very possible she would be on the higher end of that range and need to be eating much more than 1,200 calories.

Your body needs a sufficient number of calories to function properly, and when you aren't getting enough, it can leave you feeling physically and mentally fatigued, constipated, and deficient in vital nutrients, according to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

On her social media platforms, registered dietician Abbey Sharp has openly spoken up about diet culture's obsession with eating only 1,200 calories a day and the danger that comes with it. "Cutting your energy needs to 1200 calories a day (or less!) is grossly insufficient and unsustainable for long term weight loss," she wrote in an Instagram post. Drastically restricting your calorie intake may result in short-term weight loss, but it's not sustainable in the long run. In fact, one study shows that when you go on any sort of diet at all (whether it restricts calories or specific groups of foods), they often result in even greater weight gain.

In addition to the low number of calories, let's also talk about how Harvey (along with many other celebs) love demonizing carbohydrates, the macronutrients that give your body energy. Even Kim Kardashian recently made headlines for not eating carbs ahead of the Met Gala.

These types of conversations (plus all the popular low-carb diet plans out there) could be the reason why many people believe carbs are bad for you which is maybe the biggest myth perpetuated by the diet industry. Eliminating carbs from your diet can "put you at risk for fatigue, osteoporosis, or even neurological damage," Kim Rose, RDN, previously told POPSUGAR. Of course, "anything consumed in excess could result in weight gain," she said, but if you want to lose weight, carbs which are found in tons of healthful, nutrient-dense foods, such as fruits and whole grains can actually be beneficial. Carbs act as fuel that not only helps you maintain energy throughout your day (and Pilates workouts) but also supports all the important bodily processes that keep you healthy and allow you to live your life.

It's bad enough to encourage a super-low-calorie diet and continue to promote the idea that carbs are evil, but Harvey saying her recent weight gain was "not OK" might be even worse.

"When Mike and I got together, I gained like 15 pounds of relationship weight and it was horrible, none of my clothes fit, it was just not OK," she says in the TikTok video.

For anyone who needs a reminder, it absolutely is OK for your body weight to fluctuate during different periods of your life. What's important is that you love yourself through those fluctuations and when/if you want to make a change to your diet, you do so in a healthy and sustainable way.

That said, this isn't all on Harvey. Like the rest of us, she, too, has likely been warped by toxic diet culture and convinced that in order to lose weight, she must restrict her calories and work out excessively. But when celebrities like Harvey and the Kardashians promote unhealthy eating habits, it's just continuing the unfortunate cycle that the diet industry thrives on. The hype around the "1,200-calorie diet" won't go away unless people stop talking about it as if it's a good thing.

If you have questions about how much you're eating or the number of calories you need to be consuming, consult a dietitian or doctor who will be able to weigh in based on your personal needs. If a medical professional does advise you to lose weight, the best way "is to make practical, realistic changes you can stick with for life so that you can keep the pounds off," Erin Palinski-Wade, RD, CDE, previously told POPSUGAR.

A diet filled with carbs and enough calories to keep your body working well is the best thing you can do for yourself no matter what that number may be.

Health Benefits Associated With Weight Loss – UrbanMatter

Foods and beverages have been commercialized extensively. And for that very reason, millennials and Gen Z spend a lot less time in the kitchen and a lot of money on takeouts. Therefore, many people around the globe, especially in developed countries, are obese.

Lifestyle choices can dramatically affect your weight. For instance, if your peers have a habit of eating junk food, you might start doing the same sooner or later. Therefore, it is essential to change your lifestyle altogether to avoid obesity or get rid of it if youre already a victim.

If you have been procrastinating and want to start taking action, read this article thoroughly. We will explain the risks associated with obesity and the health benefits associated with weight loss.

There are a lot of symptoms that might imply you are overweight. For instance, you may start having problems in the bedroom if you are overweight. Although there are medicines like Vidalista 40 that can help you get rid of such issues. A long-term solution would be to get rid of the excess fat in your body.

There are two ways to check if you are overweight or just healthier than usual:

Keep in mind that your waist circumference wont be the same as your jeans or trousers. You will have to check your waist circumference with the help of a measurement tape.

To take the measurement, lay the tape measure midway between the bottom of your ribs and the top of your hips; hold it firmly just over your belly button.

The recommended waist measurements are:

If your waist is broader than that, you might be overweight.

Measuring your height and weight is the first step in determining your BMI. Your BMI score will categorize you as underweight, healthy, overweight, or obese.

Calculate BMI:

The formula to calculate BMI is:

BMI = weight in kilograms/height in meter squared

BMI Scores:

Note: As BMI doesnt take muscle mass into account, you may find yourself in the overweight or obese category if youre muscular.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is always pre-paid. You need to act on it and work hard persistently, after which you reap the benefits. Losing weight requires discipline and a lot of patience. We recommend that you work on changing your daily habits to improve the quality of your life drastically.

Although there are various benefits associated with weight loss, we will discuss the most prominent ones that should motivate you to get up and go for a run.

Decreasing your weight will also improve your heart health. Visceral fat affects all organs, but the heart mainly faces the repercussions.

Visceral fat accumulates around the arteries. In the long run, these arteries can get clogged, causing atherosclerosis

Losing your weight can decrease visceral fat and improve other organs health. Therefore, if you are obese, you should start dropping your weight from today itself.

Leaving it untreated will lead to other complications like heart attack, chest pain, difficulty in erection, etc. Obese heart patients often face such complications.

Men being awkward, avoid discussing them and try self medications, especially for erection issues. We strictly recommend not to do so to avoid unwanted side effects.

Medicines for better erection like Tadalafil (Vidalista 40) may interact with medicines for health complications like nitrates. Additionally, there are multiple other interactions of such pills (Vidalista 40). Therefore, it is best to consult the doctor first.

You cannot be obese and flexible both at the same time Obese people have a problem with agility and cannot move fast. This can lead to frustration while trying to go for a run with your friends or trying to be intimate with your partner.

Therefore, the only solution to these problems would be to lose as much weight as possible. Although, sometimes, blood flow to intimate parts can decrease due to obesity. In such cases, medicines like Tadalafil (Vidalista 40) can help.

Even if you are not overweight, you may experience these bed blues. A variety of factors can cause these problems. As a solution, combination treatment with PED5 inhibitors like Vardenafil (Levitra) or Tadalafil ( Vidalista 40) may be your best option.

NOTE: Even if you are familiar with any medicine, including Tadalafil ( Vidalista 40), Benazepril (Lotensin), or Enalapril (Vasotec) do consult the doctor before consuming.

You can lower your cholesterol levels by losing as little as 10 pounds.

According to one research, people who dropped at least 5% of their body weight had lower levels of LDL, total cholesterol, and triglycerides. People who dropped less than 5% of their body weight, on the other hand, had lower triglyceride levels.

Also, cholesterol is a secret killer as there arent that many symptoms of high cholesterol, but if you are overweight, you should get a blood test done.

You will notice this one. When you lose weight and start leading a healthy lifestyle, you will have a better sleep which will, in turn, infuse your life with more energy.

Having a good nights sleep is vital for survival.

Obese people can face issue that can jeopardize their relationship. In case of obese men, erection-related problems are common. Being overweight can cause a decrease in libido by narrowing down the blood vessels, reducing the blood flow. This can adversely affect the erection mechanisms among men .

If you face such issues, Tadalafil (Vidalista 40) can be one of the best solutions. Vidalista 40 can help cure such problems by increasing the blood flow in that area and improving the quality of your life in the bedroom.

Self confidence is also primarily impacted by obesity. Obese people have a bad mood for various reasons like bad health, problems in the bed, wearing stylish clothes, and so on.

Although other problems mentioned above are a direct result of obesity. But still, it can further affect your relations with the partner Vidalista 40 being a PDE5 inihibitor can help you turn it around if you face any such issue.

Although many medicines are available on the market,Tadalafil (Vidalista 40) is one of the most trusted medicines.

To get rid of all these issues, you need to lower your weight. Even though weight reduction can be complex and slow, it is one of the best pieces of advice you can follow. Reducing your weight will alleviate your mood, improve self-confidence, and make you feel healthier.

FDA Approves Mounjaro, a Novel Once-a-Week Medication to Treat Type 2 Diabetes – Everyday Health

Posted: May 20, 2022 at 1:44 am

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Mounjaro (tirzepatide) injection to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D), as an addition to diet and exercise. The drug, manufactured by Eli Lilly, improved blood sugar more effectively than the other diabetes therapies that were included in the clinical studies that were the basis for its approval, according to the FDA statement, released on May 13.

Its estimated that more than 37 million people in the United States have type 2 diabetes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). People with T2D are twice as likely to have heart disease or stroke compared to someone without diabetes, and at a younger age, per the agency.

Given the challenges many patients experience in achieving their target blood sugar goals, todays approval of Mounjaro is an important advance in the treatment of type 2 diabetes, said Patrick Archdeacon, MD, associate director of the division of diabetes, lipid disorders, and obesity in the FDAs Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, in the statement.

The drug is the first approved medication that targets two principal natural incretin hormones, GIP and GLP-1. Incretins are metabolic hormones that stimulate a decrease in blood glucose levels.

The approval was based on results from the phase 3 SURPASS program, which included head-to-head comparisons to the injectable Ozempic (semaglutide) 1 milligram (mg), as well as comparisons with long-acting insulin analogs Lantus (insulin glargine) and Tresiba (insulin degludec). At the end of seven different phase 3 trials that lasted between 40 and 52 weeks, Mounjaro produced superior A1C reductions versus all comparators.

Mounjaro appears to represent an advancement over current GLP-1 analogues, providing enhanced glycemic and weight benefits without an added penalty in terms of gastrointestinal adverse effects, stated a commentary response published in July 2021 in The Lancet after the publication of one of the phase 3 trials.

Mounjaro has not been studied in patients with a history of pancreatitis and is not indicated for use in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus.

Many of the participants in the Mounjaro trials also had overweight or obesity; the average BMI was 32 to 34 at the time of trial enrollment. A BMI of 30 or higher is in the obesity range, according to the CDC.

While the drug is not indicated for weight loss, average change in body weight was a secondary endpoint in all SURPASS studies, and participants lost between 12 and 25 pounds on average.

Eli Lilly is seeking approval for tirzepatide for weight loss, and the company recently announced results from a phase 3 trial testing. Participants (all with either overweight or obesity, but not diagnosed with type 2 diabetes) received the medication or a placebo over the course of 72 weeks, along with support to follow a calorie-restricted diet and to increase physical activity levels. On the highest dose (15 mg) participants had an average weight loss of 22.5 percent of their body weight 52 pounds.

Side effects reported in 5 percent or more of people taking Mounjaro included nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, constipation, upper abdominal discomfort, and abdominal pain.

The drug carries a warning for a risk of thyroid C-cell tumors, as Mounjaro causes thyroid C-cell tumors in rats. It is unknown whether Mounjaro causes such tumors, including medullary thyroid cancer, in humans. According to the prescribing information, Mounjaro should not be used in patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or in patients with multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2.

Mounjaro will be available in six doses (2.5 mg, 5 mg, 7.5 mg, 10 mg, 12.5 mg, and 15 mg) and will come in an auto-injector pen with a pre-attached, hidden needle that patients do not need to handle or see. The medication is self-administered one time each week and can be injected under the skin of the stomach, thigh, or upper arm.

According to a May 13 release from the company, Mounjaro is expected to be available in the United States in the coming weeks. No information has been released about how much the drug will cost.
