NEW YORK (AP) -- Weight Watchers International Inc.'s shares jumped in after-hours trading Monday after the company reported that third-quarter earnings fell but still easily topped expectations.
The company is increasingly seeing its business shift from in-person meetings where members weigh in publicly and get tips on weight loss to an online service and forum.
Weight Watchers said that it earned $67.4 million, or $1.20 per share, for the period that ended Sept. 29, versus $80.7 million, or $1.09 per share, in the third quarter of last year. The company's total revenue was nearly flat at $430.6 million versus $428.4 million. Online business improved with the number of active online subscribers up nearly 20 percent to 2.05 million but that was offset by pressure on its meetings business in North America and the U.K.
Higher costs for marketing, interest and selling, general and administrative expenses crimped profits in the latest period.
But results still beat analysts' expectations for profit of $1.05 per share on revenue of $422.8 million, according to FactSet.
Shares of the company jumped $5.08, or nearly 11 percent, to $52.56 in after-hours trading. Its stock had fallen 35 cents to close regular trading at $47.48.
Weight Watchers said that Superstorm Sandy and recent investments to help promote its business ahead of the key New Year's weight loss season would impact its fourth quarter. The company cut the top end of its 2012 earnings guidance range to $4.10 per share, versus a prior range of $4 to $4.20 per share.
Analysts, on average, are expecting earnings of $4.11 per share for the year.

A nationally heralded hCG diet for fast weight loss now available from hCGTreatments / Diet Doc hCG Diets & Weight Loss Plans
hCG is gaining traction as a weight loss aid, and coupled with an individualized nutrition plan from Diet Doc Weight Loss Plans, is capable of producing a pound per day of necessary weight loss without starvation, and without unhealthy medications. Diet Doc hCG Diets continues to lead their competitors in providing the best weight, with little to no side effects at an affordable price
hCG or Human Chorionic Gonadotropin has been used for decades to treat infertility, but it was not until Dr. A.T.W. Simeons discovered the ability of hCG to aid in weight loss that the hCG diet was invented. Simeons found that when patients were given injections of pure hCG, the diet aid could trigger the hypothalamus to access fat stores for energy. The fat stores accessed by an hCG diet are referred to as abnormal fat stores, which is different from fat stored around organs or tummy fat stored for quick energy. Abnormal body fat is that fat which should normally be used as energy reserves, but is trapped by the body in places like underarms, midsection, thighs, and hips. The main attraction of an hCG diet plan is the drugs ability to signal fast weight loss, and when used in conjunction with a low calorie diet, produce feelings of fullness and reduce lethargy despite a reduced caloric intake.
An hCG diet is effective for fast weight loss for several reasons. First, hCG triggers the body to burn fat in the most stubborn areas, what is referred to as abnormal fat. This is fat that the body has stored for energy, yet could no access readily without the aid of and hCG diet. Secondly, hCG is most effective while used in conjunction with a low calorie diet. An hCG diet allows its user to consume very few calories, which alone triggers fast weight loss, during this time the prescription hCG is signaling the body to reset metabolism, burn abnormal body fat, and very importantly, retain muscle mass. Prescription hCG produces weight loss via low caloric intake, but unlike those who only used a lower caloric intake, those using hCG experienced far less muscle mass loss.
For over a decade, hCGTreatments / Diet Doc Weight Loss Plans has been continually improving the original hCG protocol offered by Dr. Simeons. Some of Diet Doc's most important advancements in the original hCG diet have been increased caloric intake, more effective and higher purity hCG treatments, proprietary diet foods that adhere to the Diet Doc hCG diet protocol, and perhaps most importantly, unlimited physician, nurse, and staff consultations 6 days a week with leading fast weight loss experts. Diet Doc has utilized the latest nutrition science to create a nutrition plan that is rich in essential nutrients allowing clients the opportunity to increase daily caloric intake to 1250 calories daily while on the hCG diet. With this, Diet Doc has revolutionized the hCG diet and is leading the way to having the hCG diet recognized as the best weight loss available. Further improving the hCG diet, Diet Doc will only prescribe the hCG diet to clients after an initial physician consultation where the client's individual health needs and goals are considered. After this physician consultation, Diet Doc offers unlimited support for clients, and reaches out weekly to monitor treatment. With this much products and services offered, Diet Doc has become the most trusted name in hCG diets, producing fast weight loss for their clients at an average of one pound per day without starvation, muscle loss, and over 12 times less expensively than weight loss surgeries.

When it comes to dieting, some people have tried virtually everything.
There's the grapefruit diet. The all-green, leafy diet. And who can forget the baby food fad diet?
Now, Reader's Digest magazine is introducing its own weight-loss plan, detailed in the book "The Digest Diet."
Liz Vaccariello, editor-in-chief of the magazine, said Reader's Digest incorporated the best weight-loss research into one simple plan that is split into three one-week phases.
"Well, it's not a fad, you're not eliminating food groups and it's the nexus of healthy weight loss and super-fast weight loss," Vaccariello told "Good Morning America" correspondent Abbie Boudreau in an interview that aired on the show today.
Phase one targets hard-to-battle belly fat. Dieters eat mostly soups and shakes, incorporating fat-releasing foods such as strawberries, yogurt and chocolate.

"So strawberries, here we're talking about vitamin C," Vaccariello said. "This is one of the fat releasers. You think of vitamin C as an immune booster but, in reality, people who have low levels of vitamin C in their body have a more difficult time losing weight."
Red wine, too, is good for weight loss, and milk chocolate and dark chocolate improve mood and help keep skin looking good, she added.
Being able to have these foods is a great benefit.

Raspberry ketone diet pills act as a fat burner that works by increasing the temperature of the body. Dr. Oz recommends that they should be used in combination with a healthy diet and a set of weight loss exercises but many people have noticed good results without exercising too.
Most of the raspberry ketone reviews on the web confirm the efficiency of the product but also suggest that those looking how to lose weight fast, should always consider taking the pills and combining them with fitness, aerobics or morning jogging.
Pamela Berry from CA says: I received this product on Tuesday, October 2nd and it is now Sunday, October 7th. I weighed myself in the morning on Tuesday and the scale read 152. This morning, it read 146.5. I cannot say enough about this product. I have not changed my diet at all. I do go to the gym every day. I am a 5'6 female hoping to get down to 125 or 130.
This product is definitely helping me along the way. It hasn't even been a full week and Im already seeing results. Love it! No side effects so far at all. Although it probably works differently on everybody, I would definitely recommend giving it a try.

The biggest bane of dieters isnt losing weight but keeping the pounds off. Some 90 percent of those who lose weight find themselves regaining all their lost weight (and then some) time and time again. There may be, however, a way to ensure better success: mental preparation beforehand.
In a Stanford University School of Medicine study published last week, overweight women who learned skills to maintain their weight loss -- before they embarked on a weight loss plan -- wound up regaining fewer pounds within the year after they finished their weight loss plan compared to those who were put on a diet and exercise plan first and then taught skills to keep then from slipping back into their old habits.
Both groups lost similar amounts of weight, but the ones who prepared beforehand had gained back three pounds on average within a year after ending their diet compared to seven pounds for those who didnt get the pre-diet preparation.
Learning maintenance skills before rather than after a diet, wrote the researchers, was designed to capitalize on initial motivation, provide a mastery experience for weight stability, and increase perceived self-efficacy for maintaining a stable weight in the future.
Before starting on the long road to weight loss, the women in the plan-ahead group learned real-world skills like paying attention to their hunger signals, appropriate portion size, and how much they were eating without having to write everything down in a food diary. They did, though, weigh themselves every day and had a weight range that they were supposed to maintain.
In another exercise, they simulated going on vacation by losing a few pounds during a week or two beforehand and then allowing themselves to indulge a bit for a week on their vacation before cutting back again when their vacation ended.
Commercial weight loss programs arent designed to teach maintenance skills before the dieting part, but consulting a registered dietitian or wellness coach on your own before you head to, say, Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig could be useful. (Individual sessions can be costly, but theyre often covered by insurance if youre obese or have a weight-related condition like diabetes.)
Everyday Health offers these tips if youre trying to prepare on your own.

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Nov. 4, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Executive ER in Beverly Hills, CA announced that the practice now offers a physician-supervised weight loss program. The program, known as ExecuSlim, combines a low-glycemic dietary plan with nutritional counseling, natural dietary supplements, and exercise for long-term medical weight loss. According to Executive ER, this plan is successful because it combines the latest nutritional knowledge with patient-proven strategies.
Individuals searching for an effective Beverly Hills weight loss plan may wish to learn more about ExecuSlim, a new physician-supervised medical weight loss program offered by Executive ER.
Beverly Hills chiropractor Dr. Daniel Jacobsen recommends the program for patients who need assistance losing weight and keeping the pounds off. The chiropractor emphasizes that ExecuSlim not only helps patients lose weight, but also through dietary and lifestyle changes helps patients successfully keep off the pounds they lose.
"I often tell my patients that losing weight is the easy part; it's keeping the weight off that is the real challenge," says Dr. Jacobsen. "That's why our ExecuSlim plan is so effective. Our management program and nutrition counseling helps to blast off fat while slowly transition patients to a new, healthy lifestyle. The pounds come off and they stay off!"
The ExecuSlim program combines nutritional counseling with lifestyle changes to help patients control hunger, re-structure their eat habits, and change their relationship with food.

Our program helps patients learn to eat to fuel their bodies rather than to cope with emotional distress or anxiety."
Program participants will follow a low-glycemic dietary plan that incorporates Zone weight loss products to increase fat burning. Prior to beginning the program, patients receive a detailed overview, along with a weight and body fat analysis, blood panel evaluation, and medical consultation.
"Our supplements are FDA approved," said Dr. Jacobsen. "When combined with a low-glycemic diet, they help patients quickly drop the pounds. Our nutritional counseling and lifestyle changes help patients maintain this weight loss permanently."

90days
I decided to start working out a little over 3 months ago. It #39;s amazing how comfortable we get with our own image and play mind tricks on ourselves.. I used to think I was buff and in descent shape. Seeing my body transformation right before my eyes was definitely a reality check. I was not buff at all, I was actually in bad shape and for only weighing 179 lbs. I had a lot of body fat. I didn #39;t do crossfit or any crazy high intensity workouts mainly because I have lower back problems and a bad shoulder and needed something safer and with minimal potential for injuries. I went old school with traditional controlled weightlifting about 3-4 times a week and 45 minutes of cardio at my fat burn heart rate every morning (for me it was a fast walk or light jog in place). I give most of my success not to what I did in the gym but what I did in the kitchen. A controlled diet definitely played the bigger part. I did not give myself cheat days until I reached my goal at 90 days. I only ate what I would benefit from.From:cpfjazoViews:4 0ratingsTime:01:51More inPeople Blogs
