NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ Denise was suffering from excruciating pain, but surgeons said she needed to lose considerable weight before they could perform hip replacement surgery.

At nearly 300 pounds and unable to walk, she wheeled herself into the offices at the Weight Loss and Bariatric Center at Saint Peters University Hospital, desperate for help.

Today, she weighs about 120 pounds, said Carlos Aitor Macias, MD, MPH, FACS, surgical director of the Weight Loss and Bariatric Center. Shes actually within her target weight. She had the two hips replaced. Shes not in pain anymore and walking by herself.

There have been dozens of success stories like Denises since the Weight Loss and Bariatric Center opened in 2018. Dr. Macias and the staff use a proven, healthy weight loss strategy, incorporating nutrition, psychology, physical therapy, exercise and surgery all while adhering to strict COVID-19 safety guidelines and practices.

Their work has helped patients lose weight, improve their health, regain their vitality and lead richer, freer and more pain-free lives.

Obesity has been proven to contribute to heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, osteoarthritis and certain types of cancer, according to the Centers for Disease Control. With obesity as a health crisis impacting so many issues, the center has also become is a prudent option for individuals who were previously unable to lose weight on their own.

Many of the clients working with the Weight Loss and Bariatric Center have tried fad diets, intermittent fasting, overtraining in the gym and other methods that just didnt work in the long run.

The CDC estimates that more than 40% of American adults are obese (a body mass index above 30).

Dr. Macias tells the patients at the initial consultation that the center will show them what to eat, how much to eat, how to exercise and put them on the road to weight loss and better health. But, ultimately, they are in the drivers seat.

I tell them maybe I have a bias because I like cars that the process of getting back to your ideal weight is like driving from here to New York, he said. We can give you a Formula One race car. I can even stop all the traffic on the highway so you will have the best machine you can have on the highways. But I am not driving. None of us are driving. You need to learn how to drive.

Surgery can also be a valuable tool for some patients.

At the Weight Loss and Bariatric Center, gastric bypass surgery and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy are performed. Dr. Macias said the plan is to also offer revision surgeries those done to correct a prior one.

The goal is to use the da Vinci Surgical System to perform the surgeries. This device puts a surgeons hands at the controls of a robotic platform.

The benefits of working with the robot are that it allows us to use more tools and optimize utilization of space that is limited inside the abdominal cavity, he said. The robot allows for a greater degree of freedom and movement.

The center hopes to continue to help produce happier and healthier patients like the one man who told the peer-to-peer support group via video conferencing technology that he had to throw away his old dinner plates.

He mentioned that his dishware didnt do him justice any longer because his usual typical portion size before surgery had been so much larger, Dr. Macias said. And after surgery, his food was basically occupying one-fifth of the plate. He was like, It doesnt make any sense for me to put my meal on a plate this big, so I had to change them all.

Lockdown weight loss: "I lost 15 kgs in 2 months by walking 10000 steps every day" – Times of India

Posted: November 21, 2020 at 2:56 pm

I started by walking for 2 kilometres a day. After a while, I was able to pace up and could walk upto 5 kilometres (cover 10,000 steps) at a stretch. This became my routine. I used to go for brisk walks sometimes twice a day as well.

Low-calorie recipes I swear by It was decided that I would only have homemade food. No junk food, oily or non-vegetarian food. I turned a pure vegan for 60 days!

Fitness secrets I unveiled:

Diet and discipline are important factors for weight loss. If you mess with your diet and are non-consistent in your routine, you are not going to lose weight. All through my journey, I didn't skip my workout for a single day. No cheat meals either.

How do I stay motivated?

I could see a visible change in my appearance. That was the biggest motivator for me. Every time I looked at myself in the mirror, I was charged to do more hard work and sweat out the fat.

Additionally, I also listened to many motivational videos about weight loss. So, they also contributed to my weight loss journey.

How do you ensure you dont lose focus?

Consistency is the only thing that can get you to the finish line. Sometimes, I felt zoned out and demotivated as well, but the courage within kept me going. I knew I had to lose weight, by hook or by crook to be healthy.

I used to check my weight on the scale after every 3-4 days or twice a well. The weight reduction and visible change kept me going.

Whats the most difficult part of being overweight?

I felt that I was losing out on my confidence and productivity due to bulging weight. I failed to do many tasks and found it difficult to get up in the mornings! I knew I wasn't giving my 100%. Slowly, I started to head towards the road of negativity. Health concerns only made problems worse.

Mrs Hinch’s 8st weight loss transformation and what made her happier about body – Daily Star

Posted: November 21, 2020 at 2:56 pm

Mrs Hinch shot to fame after sharing cleaning tips on Instagram.

But as the stars following has grown to 3.8 million fans, people have become more interested in her personal life.

This is probably why the influencer, whose real name is Sophie Hinchcliffe, decided to release memoirs.

This Is Me delves into all sorts of questions from motherhood to the celebs relationship with husband Jamie.

Another question that crops up a lot is the housework wizs weight loss journey.

In her book, Mrs Hinch talks about the highs and lows of transforming her body.

Sophie, who has always battled with body confidence, used to weigh 17 stone when she was 21-years-old.

She revealed: My issues around my weight didnt really start until my late teens.

I left school and it started to creep up without me even noticing really, especially after I passed my driving test and could drive myself to McDonalds and KFC. Thats where all the trouble began!

When she was 19, Sophie joined Slimming World and managed to lose nine pounds in one week.

But when she gained a few pounds again, she felt too embarrassed to go back to the meetings.

It wasnt until Mrs Hinch suffered an embarrassing moment at a funfair that she decided to start dieting again.

She recalled: It happened at Peter Pans theme park at Southend and I was so big that I couldnt fit on the ride.

The safety bar wouldnt come down and I had to get down, feeling like the whole world was watching, pointing and laughing.

That was it. I knew I had to do whatever it took, however drastic.

Sophie did some research online and decided to get a gastric band.

The Instagram star took out a 6,000 loan from the bank and got the gastric band fitted.

For the next year, Sophie lived off smaller portions and meals like soup.

The weight loss surgery definitely helped her to shed pounds but it did lead to some complications down the line.

Two years after the op, Sophie was rushed to hospital after her band slipped.

She also faced further complications after excess skin removal surgery that led to a serious infection.

Thankfully, Mrs Hinch recovered from the infection.

In total, she lost around eight stone from the gastric band surgery.

But even then, Sophie doesnt feel completely comfortable in her skin.

In her book, the star reveals having baby Ronnie has helped her to be a bit more accepting of her body though.

She added: Pregnancy and childbirth have definitely made me think: I might not love my body but look at what my body just managed!

When Tiffany Haddish picked up her Peoples Choice Award this past weekend for Female Movie Star of 2020, she looked radiant. A part of that was due to the fact that the stars haircut flattered her quite well, and the Prabal Gurung gown was a win. Her glow can also be attributed to the fact that shes lost 40 pounds this year. She shared the news in a new interview with EXTRA, saying shes done an overhaul of her life, both physically and emotionally.

I lost 40 pounds. Ive been working out and eating right and getting my little life together, she said. Im not gonna lie to you, my knees was hurting a lot in 2019. I was carrying a lot of things around, a lot of weight, unnecessary weight, a lot of unnecessary hurt. Just a lot of things. I had to let all that go a lot of mental hurt. A lot of things. I let a lot of that go. I was carrying a lot of hair. I let that go. But I just really wanted to see my scalp on that one. I aint gonna lie.

During an interview on Steve-Os Wild Ride podcast in the summer, Haddish revealed that she had already lost 20 pounds and attributed that to her being healthy and happy in her relationship with boyfriend Common.

Ive lost 20 pounds since Ive been in this relationship, she said at the time. I feel more confident in me and its not him thats doing it.

She said that the romantic fulfillment came from knowing I got somebody that cares about me, that really has my back.

How sweet. Fast forward to November and past rumors that they split, which they cleared up, and the newly slimmed down star is looking forward to celebrating her 41st birthday with him on December 3.

Eggs for Weight Loss: How to Eat Eggs and Lose Weight – LIVESTRONG.COM

Posted: November 21, 2020 at 2:56 pm

How you cook your eggs may help or hinder your weight-loss goals.

Egghead. Egg on your face. Don't count your chickens before the eggs have hatched. All the egg-based idioms out there seem to be pretty negative, but we're here to sing the praises of this incredible, edible food.

Eggs are an excellent source of nutrients, plus they're a rich source of protein and fat, per the USDA two macronutrients that play an important role in weight management.

Protein is important because when you reduce your calorie intake and begin to have some weight loss, inevitably, a percentage of that will be muscle (it's not just fat you're losing), per the Mayo Clinic. Getting enough protein, though, can help you maintain your muscle or at least minimize the amount you lose which keeps your resting metabolism up, helping you burn more calories overall.

Protein also aids in weight loss because it helps you feel full, requires more energy to digest and increases satiety hormones, according to an April 2015 paper in the The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Fat, too, is satiating it slows digestion, leaving us feeling fuller longer, according to the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. So, yes, getting enough fat can help with weight loss.

With all that said, there are still some best practices to follow when eating eggs. Keep the following common mistakes in mind if you're trying to lose weight.

Did you know that keeping a food diary is one of the most effective ways to manage your weight? Download the MyPlate app to easily track calories, stay focused and achieve your goals!

Mistake 1: Eating Only the Whites

If you're still removing the yolk every time you make scrambled eggs, you're not doing yourself any favors when it comes to losing weight or getting vital nutrients.

Yes, yolks contain the majority of the fat found in an egg, but dietary fat isn't what leads to more body fat that's due to an excess of calories. Plus, the yolk contains half of the protein found in an egg, according to the USDA.

Lastly, the yolk is where the majority of the nutrients are. If you toss the yolk, you're missing out on choline, folate, iron, selenium, phosphorus, zinc, thiamin and vitamins A, B6, B12, D and E, according to the American Egg Board.

Mistake 2: Limiting Eggs to Breakfast

Don't limit yourself (or your diet) by only thinking of eggs as a breakfast food. They can be enjoyed at lunch and dinner, too, and even as a snack.

They're easy to incorporate into meals beyond breakfast: Egg salad sandwiches make for a nutritious and comforting lunch. Or enjoy poached eggs as your source of protein on top of a salad or grain bowl.

For dinner, add an over-easy egg on top of your burger or work a couple into your stir fry before serving.

Enjoying a hard-boiled egg or two with salt and pepper is a delicious afternoon snack that will keep you satisfied until your next meal.

Mistake 3: Cooking Them With Unhealthy Fats

Frying eggs in butter or margarine kind of defeats the purpose if you're trying to eat a healthy diet or lose weight. Sure, it may taste good, but it takes your meal down a notch nutrition-wise.

We're not saying avoid all fats. Our bodies need fat, and dietary fat can aid in weight loss. Unhealthy fats, like saturated and trans fats, however, can increase your risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and other chronic conditions, per Harvard Health Publishing.

Instead, cook your eggs in unsaturated fats like olive, avocado and canola oil. The American Heart Association recommends choosing oils with less than 4 grams of saturated fat per tablespoon and no trans fats or partially-hydrogenated oils.

Or better yet, opt for poached or boiled eggs, which don't require any extra calories to cook.

Mistake 4: Pairing Them With Bacon and Other Unhealthy Breakfast Foods

Our perception of eggs has changed over the years, especially as science has evolved and we know now eggs can be part of a healthy diet.

That said, refrain from allowing the healthy attributes of eggs to extend a health halo over everything else you're eating with them, like highly-processed red meat (bacon, sausage) or refined grains (pancakes, waffles).

Healthier pairing options for eggs include vegetables and a small portion of cheese for an omelet, topped with salsa. Or enjoy scrambled eggs with a whole-grain English muffin and a piece of fruit or yogurt.

Mistake 5: Eating Too Many

Yes, the limit on dietary cholesterol was lifted when the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services published its 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. But this doesn't mean you can consume them with abandon.

While there's technically no upper limit on cholesterol, the guidelines do state that "individuals should eat as little dietary cholesterol as possible while consuming a healthy eating pattern."

When it comes to eggs, it's best to stick to an average of one per day, according to Harvard Health Publishing. If you have diabetes or other heart disease risk factors, you may want to eat no more than three eggs a week.
