Tia Mowry just revealed a 68-pound weight-loss transformation. On Tuesday, the actress posted a picture of herself wearing a gray turtle neck with a lengthy caption about her weight loss progress after giving birth to her daughter Cairo in 2018.

In 2018, Mowry announced she was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and mastitis, which is inflammation of the breast tissue. Six months after giving birth to Cairo, she gave an update about postpartum life on Instagram.

Still breastfeeding and pumping while working. Has it been easy? No. However, Ive continued to push through #mastitis and working sometimes 16-hour days, she wrote in the caption. Do I still have a little pouch? Yes. Ever heard of #DiastasisRecti? Its when the abs separate during pregnancy. Shining a spotlight on this because I had never heard of it.

Mowry said that, when the time is right, she will go hard with core work to restore. Below, everything shes shared about her weight loss journey.

In July 2018, Mowry was diagnosed with gestational diabetes, a condition in which a moms blood sugar levels become too high during pregnancy. Although gestational diabetes typically goes away on its own, it boosts the risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life.

Mowry shared a video of her working out postpartum following her diagnosis. I was lost for words. Never ever did I think, THIS could happen to me, she wrote. Time to get back on track. Making healthy choices and moving.

Mowry made it clear that she was going to move through her health journey on her own timeline. The actress shared a video of her working out and opened up about her progress in the caption.

The key to bouncing back is simple: stay motivated and work at your own pace!! Oh, and squats. Lots of squats. , she wrote, adding that trainer Marcela Kim was helping her get back into shape. She shared another video working out with Marcela in August, this time performing tricep dips.

In October 2019, Mowry addressed some online trolls who made comments about her body during and after her pregnancy.

#17months post pregnant. I did it my way and in my time. Many women feel the need to #snapback right away after they deliver. That was never the goal for me, she wrote. I was called fat during my pregnancy and I was called fat after my pregnancy. Why do we do this to each other? Instead of love one another other? I will never understand that.

I intentionally documented my journey and became vulnerable to show women that its okay to go at your own pace, it is okay to love yourself no matter where you are in your journey, she continued. Do not fold to societal pressures. After hard work with just diet and exercise, today Im closer to my goal. Do I have loose skin and stretch marks? YES. Guess what?? I LOVE all me and I want you to love all of you too.

In December 2019, Mowry was embracing herself postpartum, and encouraged other moms to do the same. She shared progress videos of her performing lunges, writing in the caption, Embrace yourself, ladies! ESPECIALLY after childbirth!! It took me #18months to start feeling myself again.

Everyone deserves to have the time to focus on themselves and their health and wellbeing, moms included. Mowry shared a progress video in December 2019 with an inspiring message to moms who think self-care is selfish. You asked and here you you go! More workout videos of my progress postpartum. Self-care isnt selfish ,she wrote alongside a video of her doing push-ups.

In the first week of January, Mowry was in the gym putting in work, even on the weekends. Happy weekend! I love to start off the weekend with a good sweat, she captioned a gym selfie. Even if you only have 20 mins, its an important part of your #wellness journey! GET MOVING.

While Mowry wrote that she was focusing on her core in February 2020, she also said she was embracing her body the way it is. Got it in! Working on my #core, she captioned a photo of her performing a lunge. Lets talk about the mid-section after pregnancy! It can be the most challenging! But Im having fun with it! Im not being too hard on my self. Im embracing the excess skin and stretch marks. Two amazing beautiful children were birthed and I rejoice.

Meditation is an amazing way to relieve stress and unwind, and Mowry is a fan of the practice. In March, she gave an update 22 months post-baby and said she was starting to feel even better, thanks to her healthy lifestyle.

Eating the right foods, working out, meditating and taking my supplements @shopanser For the past 3 years my body wasnt just for me. It was for my baby, she wrote in an Instagram caption. One year, prepping the womb, second year carrying, third, breast feeding my daughter. My point is, its okay to go at your pace to get back to you. Also, if it is a goal of yours, Im here to tell you, you can do it.

In March, Mowry further opened up about her meditation practice, saying she uses the Calm app. She also kept her mental health in check by spending more time in nature and FaceTiming with loved ones.

When it comes to my health, Ive been focusing on things that support my immune system system. Not forgetting to eat my veggies (frozen) and fruits loaded in vitamin C including supplements with zinc, garlic, and iron, she wrote. Im also working out out to help with immunity. Its amazing how many incredible apps are avail to help keep your body moving!

In July, Mowry shared that she has been taking Anser Vitamins (FYI, she created the brand). The past few months have been up and down, but @shopanser has always been such a joy for me because Im able to remind women that taking charge of their health is so important and deserved, she wrote on Instagram.

Weight loss is most successful when partners join in the process – Drew Reports News

Posted: August 28, 2020 at 12:55 pm

Weight-loss is most successful in heart attack survivors when partners participate in the effort to diet plan, according to research provided today at ESC Congress 2020.

Lifestyle improvement after a heart attack is a crucial part of preventing repeat events, said study author Ms. Lotte Verweij, a registered nurse and PhD student, Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, the Netherlands. Our study shows that when spouses join the effort to change habits, patients have a better chance of becoming healthier particularly when it comes to losing weight.

The RESPONSE-2 trial previously found that heart attack survivors referred to programs for weight reduction, physical activity, and cigarette smoking cessation were more likely to customize behaviors compared to those getting usual care. In both groups, dealing with a partner was linked with higher success in moving bad habits. The most significant enhancements remained in patients who took part in lifestyle programs and coped with a partner.

This follow-up study examined whether partner involvement in way of life programs had an impact on behavior modification. If partners contribute to adopting healthy habits, it could become an important recommendation to avoid recurrent heart attacks, explained Ms. Verweij.

A total of 824 patients were randomly appointed to the intervention group (way of life programs on top of normal care) or control group (normal care alone).

This analysis focused on the 411 patients in the intervention group, who were referred to approximately 3 way of life programmes for weight reduction, physical activity, and smoking cessation depending upon their needs and preferences. Partners might attend totally free and nurses encouraged them to take part. Partner participation was specified as attending a minimum of when.

Nearly half (48%) of partners participated in the way of life interventions. Compared to those without a partner, patients with a participating partner were more than twice as most likely (chances ratio 2.45) to enhance in a minimum of among the three areas (weight loss, exercise, smoking cigarettes cessation) within a year.

When the impact of partners was evaluated on the 3 areas separately, patients with a getting involved partner were most successful in lowering weight compared to clients without a partner (chances ratio 2.71).

Patients with partners who joined the weight loss programme lost more weight compared to patients with a partner who did not join the programme, said Ms. Verweij.

She continued: Couples often have comparable lifestyles and changing habits is difficult when only one person is making the effort. Practical issues come into play, such as grocery shopping, but also psychological challenges, where a supportive partner may help maintain motivation.

Ms. Verweij noted that the research study did not find more improvement in cigarette smoking cessation or physical activity when partners actively took part. These lifestyle issues might be more subject to individual motivation and persistence, but this hypothesis needs more investigation, she said.

Note: Three way of life programmeswere used in their existing format:

1) Weight loss: weekly group sessions with a Weight Watchers coach for one year.

2) Exercise: accelerometer to measure activity and an online coach for personalised feedback for one year (Philips Direct Life).

3) Smoking cessation: inspirational speaking with by telephone by qualified experts from Luchtsignaal for three months plus prescription of nicotine replacement or varenicline therapy as suitable.

Can Pasta Be Added To Your Weight Loss Diet? Is It Healthy? Experts Reveal The Truth – NDTV Food

Posted: August 28, 2020 at 12:55 pm

Pasta could be a healthy food for your diet.

If you are an Italian food lover, you might have heard that a recent research named pasta as a good option for healthy diet. This has come as a surprise as we had always associated it with unhealthy diet - full of carbs and cheese. But, this study shunned these notions and we are quite happy about it. The research found that intake of pasta led to better diet quality for kids and adults, and also helped women with weight loss. Exciting, isn't it?

The study titled, "Pasta Consumption is Linked to Greater Nutrient Intakes and Improved Diet Quality in American Children and Adults, and Beneficial Weight-Related Outcomes Only in Adult Females" was carried out by Nutritional Strategies, Inc. on behalf of the National Pasta Association. The study results were published in the journal 'Frontiers in Nutrition'.

Here are the core findings of the study that pointed out the benefits of consuming pasta in a healthy way-

Eating pasta in moderation can help women lose weight.

If these findings are to be believed, all those women who used to avoid their beloved pasta fearing weight gain, no longer have to look the other way. But before you go all out and start bingeing on your favourite pasta, let's see what the experts have to say about it.

Nutritionist and Macrobiotic Health Coach, Shilpa Arora says, "No food group is good or bad; moderation is the key. A balanced approach to eating and energy expenditure is critical. We have this huge fuss around diets but the real problem is with modern lifestyles and time spent not outdoors but with gadgets, limiting movement and energy expenditure. So enjoy your pasta or dosa but move around to stay active. Limit phone time, do simple chores in your house, skip or walk or cycle and eat well."

Consultant nutritionist Rupali Dutta weighs in, "It is important to consume fibre and high-quality carbohydrates but portion control is essential if you want to lose weight."

Taking it all under consideration, we say, go ahead and enjoy pasta on weight loss diet at times but instead of adding gobs of cheese, fill your pasta bowl with lots of veggies.

Weight Loss: Know The Importance Of Working Out With The Right Technique – Doctor NDTV

Posted: August 28, 2020 at 12:55 pm

If you are doing regular squats, then your feet need to be shoulder width apart, toes pointing forward. For a sumo squat, on the other hand, your feet need to be placed at a wider distance and toes pointing slightly outwards. Know other important exercise techniques right here.

Performing exercises with the right technique is important to target the right muscles

The form of exercise is the foundation of it. To put it simply, it is important that you exercise with the right technique, so that the right muscles are targeted and worked upon. Making small changes in the way you do the exercise, or when you do modified versions of exercises, they may target different muscles than what you think. For instance, did you know sumo squats put additional emphasis on inner thighs as compared to regular squats? Celeb fitness trainer Kayla Itsines elaborates further on the difference between exercise variations and which one is best for you

In her Insta post, Itsines shares examples of several other common exercises and how their modified versions target different muscle groups. Read here to know how to exercise with the right technique.

If you are doing regular squats, then your feet need to be shoulder width apart, toes pointing forward. For a sumo squat, on the other hand, your feet need to be placed at a wider distance and toes pointing slightly outwards. While the squats activate and engage glutes, quads, hamstrings and core muscles, sumo squats put additional emphasis on your inner thighs. For some people, it easier to engage glutes while doing sumo squats.

Hand placement and arm movement is the key difference between the two exercises. In a regular push-up, your hands will be slightly wider than shoulder-width apart. Elbows need to be driven outwards as you lower your body. This will primarily activate your chest and shoulder muscles.

For a tricep-push-up, your hands need to directly be put under your shoulders. Your elbows need to be tucked in closely as you lower your body. Doing so will activate your triceps and chest. However, both kind of push-ups active a wide range of muscle groups.

Both forward and reverse lunge target the same muscle groups - quads and glutes. But a reverse lunge has more intense effect on your glutes and hamstrings. It can be easier to perform reverse lunges because the stationary leg is driving the movement. Stability is better while performing reverse lunges.

Reverse table top works on your lower back, glutes, hamstrings and obliques. When do a walkout variation of this exercise, it helps in creating an activation of glutes and hamstrings.

Watch the video below to get a better understanding of how each exercise is done.

DO YOU KNOW THE DIFFERENCE? #BBGcommunity, did you know that making small tweaks to the technique of an exercise can change which muscles are being worked? You may not even be working the muscle groups you think you are. These tips are to give you a better understanding of the differences between each exercise, and how you can choose which variation is best for you. Squat vs Sumo Squat - For a regular squat, your feet will be roughly shoulder-width apart with toes pointing forward. For a sumo squat your feet are placed much wider, with toes pointing slightly outwards. All squats will activate and engage glutes, quads, hamstrings, and core muscles, but the sumo squat will place additional emphasis on your inner thighs (adductors) and for some people, it is easier to engage their glutes when doing sumo squats. Push-Up vs Tricep Push-Up - The difference between a push-up and a tricep push-up is your hand placement and arm movement. For a regular push-up, you will place your hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart and drive your elbows outwards while you lower your body. This will mainly activate your chest and shoulder muscles. With a tricep push-up, you will place your hands directly under your shoulders and keep your elbows tucked in close to your body while lowering. This will activate your triceps and chest. While both of these styles activate a wide range of muscle groups, these are the main muscles used and differences between the two. Forward Lunge vs Reverse Lunge - Essentially, both lunges target the same muscle groups (quads & glutes) but a reverse lunge will hit your glutes and hamstrings a bit more. Reverse lunges can be easier to perform because the stationary leg is driving the movement, so you have more stabilisation. Reverse Table Top Walkout vs Reverse Table Top - A reverse table top will work your lower back, obliques, glutes, and hamstrings. By adding a walkout at the top position of the table top, you are creating more activation to your glutes and hamstrings. Ladies, was this post helpful? Weight loss is easy when partners join in the effort – Tech Explorist

Posted: August 28, 2020 at 12:55 pm

Lifestyle improvement after a heart attack is a crucial part of preventing repeat events. A new study presented in ESC Congress 2020, has shown that patients have a better chance of becoming healthier when their spouses join the effort to change habits- especially when it comes to weight loss.

In other words, losing weight becomes easy in heart attack survivors when partners join to diet.

The RESPONSE-2 trail recently found that heart attack survivors alluded to weight loss programs, physical activity, and smoking cessation were bound to modify behaviors contrasted with those getting usual care. In both groups, living with a partner was connected with greater achievement in shifting bad habits. The most outstanding upgrades were in patients who partook in lifestyle programs and lived with a partner.

This follow-up study investigated whether partner involvement in lifestyle programs had an impact on behavior change. A total of 824 patients were randomly assigned to the intervention group or the control group.

This analysis concentrated on the 411 patients in the intervention group. They were alluded to up to three lifestyle programs for weight reduction, physical activity, and smoking cessation relying upon their necessities and preferences. Partners could attend for free, and nurses encouraged them to partake. Partner participation was characterized as going to any event once.

About half (48%) of partners partook in the lifestyle intercessions. Contrasted with those without a partner, patients with a participating partner were more than twice as likely (chances proportion 2.45) to improve in any event one of the three areas (weight loss, work out, smoking cessation) within a year.

When partners influence was analyzed in the three areas separately, patients with a participating partner were most successful in reducing weight compared to patients without a partner.

Ms. Lotte Verweij, a registered nurse and Ph.D. student, Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, the Netherlands said,Patients with partners who joined the weight loss program lost more weight compared to patients with a partner who did not join the program. Couples often have comparable lifestyles, and changing habits is difficult when only one person makes an effort. Practical issues come into play, such as grocery shopping and psychological challenges, where a supportive partner may help maintain motivation.

In a photo of herself with her one-year-old son, Rex, the TV host can be seen smiling while showing off her stomach in in the mirror.

Solomon, 30, starts the caption by stating: I love my body.

It is changing all of the time so it takes some getting used to now and again... But thank Goodness it does change because if it didnt I wouldnt have that smile to wake up to every morning or those big brothers of his either.

Solomon put a call out for women to share their body confidence posts with her, and hundreds of people took up the challenge.

She said that seeing the posts reminded me of how much I miss being nice to myself.

She admitted to finding it challenging to love her body recently and added: Ive lost weight recently for some reason and I didnt lose my skin with it.

So Ive not been very nice to myself about it which isnt like me at all. Your posts have reminded me that I am beautiful and every BODY is different and thats what makes them special.

In many countries, bouncing back after having a baby is seen as a slow process, with people in Mexico describing stretch marks as love lines.

In the UK, a culture of putting pressure on new mums to speedily bounce back to their pre-baby weight can leave women feeling inadequate.

Solomon added: You are the only you and that is perfect IMO. Cellulite is pretty, Stretch marks are glitter, extra skin extra so its got to be good right? Feel like Ive got a special offer on skin.

Hundreds of thousands of people liked her post, with her celebrity BFF, Mrs Hinch commenting: Just Beautiful. I dream to have the confidence to do this one day. Sending you a big hug bub xx

All I can really see when I look at this is the love and happiness Rex looks up to you with, another person commented.

To which Solomon replied: This comment made me cry.

Well done, Stacey, we could all do with a little bit of body positivity in our lives right now.

3 Reasons Why This High Protein Lassi Could Be A Delish Addition To Your Weight Loss Diet – NDTV Food

Posted: August 28, 2020 at 12:54 pm

Highlights

Is it even a road trip if you do not stop over at roadside dhabas for a glass of thick and luscious lassi, finished off with malai? A tall glass of lassi is also served as a welcome drink in many households of Punjab. It is traditionally made by churning milk vigorously until it becomes frothy and creamy. Lassi is also has a slightly sour tinge unless it is sweetened by sugar. Some people also like to add a bit of salt to their glass of lassi. In other words, there are way too many variations of lassi for us to pick our favourite; however, of late, we may have developed a soft corner for this banana-walnut lassi, not just for its rich taste but also for the nutritional gains. Yes, you heard us. This lassi is perhaps one of the best additions you could make to your weight-loss diet, and here are some reasons why.

3 Reasons To Add Banana-Walnut Lassi For Weight Loss:

1. The prime constituent of Iassi is milk. An excellent source of protein, calcium, B vitamins and vitamin D, milk is often dubbed as 'complete food' for its dense nutrition profile. As we all know, protein is a crucial component of a weight loss diet. It helps build muscles the more muscles you have, the less room there is for fat to accumulate. Moreover, protein helps you feel full, if you are fully satiated, you would not inch towards fattening snacks so easily.

(Also Read: Not Just The Fruit, You Can Use Every Part Of Banana Plant To Make Delish Food )

2. This lassi also contains the goodness of flaxseeds and sesame seeds, both are regarded as two of the most efficient plant-based sources of protein and fibre. They are also very rich in omega 3 fatty acids thanks to walnuts, another star-ingredient in this loaded beverage.

(Also Read: 4 Homemade Protein Shakes And Salads For Building Muscles And Weight Loss )

3. This lassi does not use refined sugar as the sweetening agent. Refined sugar is full of empty calories that do nothing good for your system. Excess sugar intake leads to excess fat gain, and nothing else. This lassi gets its sweetness from banana and honey. While banana is a treasure trove of fibre, vitamins and minerals like potassium and magnesium, honey is no less of a superfood itself. Replete with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, honey may do wonders for weight-loss, immunity and overall health. But you have to make sure that you do not go overboard with the amount you use.

Here's the recipe of banana walnut lassi, try it at home and let us know what you thought of it.

Our most popular new article this week is the latest installment in our Medical Myths series. We investigate five myths associated with sleep. Among other questions, we ask whether sleep deprivation truly can be fatal and whether all animals sleep.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimate that around 264 million people globally live with depression, but there are some modifiable factors a person can control to reduce their risk. A new study suggests that confiding in others is one of the best ways to prevent depression because it appears to reduce the risk of developing it by 24%.

The research also finds factors that raise the risk of depression. Daytime napping, for example, increases the risk by 34%. However, the researchers note that this may be a reflection of the broader impact on depression of a more sedentary lifestyle and lack of physical activity.

New research suggests that smartphones could use their various sensors to collect information about a persons movement, specifically their gait, to measure their intoxication level.

The researchers recruited 22 adults who were given enough vodka, under laboratory conditions, to increase their breath alcohol level to 0.2%, more than twice the U.S. legal limit of 0.08%. The researchers then asked the participants to walk in a straight line for 10 steps once an hour for 7 hours.

Analysis of the resulting data allowed researchers to say when a participant was over the legal limit with 92.5% accuracy. Though only a proof of concept study, it could lead to future smartphones alerting the owner if it detects that they may be more susceptible to engaging in risky behavior after drinking.

Alongside the indiscriminate and inappropriate use of antibiotics, evidence also suggests that certain pollutants can act as a selection pressure favoring antibacterial resistance. A new study identifies an association between antibacterial resistance among bacteria living in soil and heavy metal and radioactive pollution.

Our readers spent nearly 10 minutes each with this article, which supports the view that it is never too late to lose weight. In it, we reported on a new study that finds that people with obesity in early adulthood whose weight fell within the overweight range by midlife reduced their risk of dying by half.

This suggests that it is possible to reverse the harmful effects of obesity and prevent early death. However, the researchers also found that weight loss was very rare among the 24,205 people in the U.S whose data the researchers analyzed for this study.

A recent study concludes that a lack of female lead authors in heart failure studies could negatively impact the treatment of heart failure in women. Not a single female is head of a cardiology division or department among the top 40 cardiology programs in the U.S.

This is important because females may be more likely to enroll in a clinical trial that they know is being led by a female investigator, and female trial leads are more likely to refer female patients to clinical trials.
