Created with personal trainer Ben Bruno, it focuses on low-impact exercises in 30-minute sessions, using minimal equipment. Kate, 28, is turning this time into an opportunity to better myself mentally and physically.

She easily tops the cuteness stakes exercising with daughter Genevieve, one. Lunging with her in her arms, she says: My baby girl is my favourite addition to my workout."

Vogue favourite Cindy is known for her dazzling presence on magazines the world over, as well as her runway work and fashion campaigns for the likes of Chanel, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana and Christian Dior.

Since lockdown, she has been reliving her supermodel heyday of the 1980s and 90s by posting her old workout videos on social media.

Cara, who has spoken openly about struggles with her mental health, has turned to yoga to help her through lockdown.

London-born Cara, 27, says: Ive been using yoga to keep my body moving and my head clear during this crazy time.

Speaking to yoga expert Colin Dunsmuir, who runs the classes Cara shares online, she told him how the sessions left her calm and thoughtful but not overthinking. Cara, 5ft 8in with a 24in waist, has been working with sports brand Puma to treat her fans to the live online workouts.

And the gentle moves arent too strenuous she is seen in a cross-legged easy pose, stretching to her toes and deep breathing.

Australian Miranda rose to prominence in 2007 as one of the Victorias Secret Angels renowned across the world for their jaw-dropping bodies.

And she has been using her time in isolation to prove that self-care is key to true beauty.

Every week Miranda has engaged fans with a Wellness Wednesday making her own face masks, posting workout videos and showing off some of her favourite recipes.

She constantly encourages her viewers to get involved and reap the benefits for themselves.

Luckily, all youll need is a yoga mat and motivation, as most of the 35-minute sessions focus on body weight exercises.

For those with a sweet tooth she has also posted healthy recipes such as vegan banana oatmeal cookies, using gluten-free flour, cinnamon, bananas and chocolate chips.

Showing off her body in a sexy bikini is all in a days work for a Victorias Secret model like Brazilian Izabel.

So its no wonder she makes her workout regime as rigorous as she possibly can.

From pull-ups in doorways to handstands on walls and solo-boxing, Izabel has been making the most of the opportunities around her home.

And it seems all the hard work continues to pay off the stunning 35-year-old is 5ft 10in with an astounding 23in waist.

And Izabel is not about to let her followers off the hook either, telling them there are no excuses for not pushing yourself to train as best as you can even during a pandemic.

The supermodel has previously revealed that she works out for an hour every day, using a mixture of Pilates, kickboxing, yoga, running and full-body resistance training.

She makes it all so appealing, even her friends young daughter wants a slice of the action.

While Izabel carries her on the treadmill, they share ab exercises and hip raises. Her adorable mini-me makes this workout seem like childs play.

Drinking 100 per cent fruit juice in the early years can lead to healthier diet patterns later in childhood, without adversely impacting weight gain.

In a study by Boston University, published in the journal BMC Nutrition, researchers found that drinking fruit juice meant higher intake of whole fruit as well as better diet quality through childhood and into middle adolescence.

This research provides important information showing that children who consumed about 1.5 cups of 100 per cent fruit juice per day during the preschool years tended to maintain healthier diets into adolescence than children who drank less than 1/2 cup per day during preschool, lead researcher Lynn L Moore said in a statement.

In addition, over 10 years of follow-up, juice consumption within the range typically consumed by these children (1-2 cups per day), was not associated with excess weight gain during childhood, Dr Moore added.

From the study, researchers inferred that preschoolers with higher intake of 100 per cent fruit juice had significantly higher intakes of whole fruit and total fruit at 14-17 years of age than those children who consumed lesser juice.

It was further found that children with higher fruit juice intake during preschool years had significantly higher diet quality as compared to those with lower intake at all ages.

Fruit consumption, particularly whole fruit consumption, has many health benefits throughout the lifespan. Avoiding juice during these early formative years may have unintended effects on evolving dietary behaviorsThese benefits, associated with moderate intakes of 100 per cent fruit juice, were not accompanied by any adverse effects on childhood weight, the researcher said.

It can also result in body odour. Hair and digestive problems also become common during the summer season. Unrestricted sun exposure, even during monsoon, can cause premature ageing in all skin types whileoily skin may experience heavy breakouts. Your hair, nails, lips, and eyes, as well as your digestive system, can get affected in the hot and humid weather. Therefore, we need to take care of our skin and limit exposure to the sun, and at the same time, take care of overall health in a natural way.

Our face is the first thing people notice and it seems that the sunrays are no different. Therefore, this part of the body bears the brunt, quite literally. Make sure you are washing you face more with plain water for 3-4 times every day. Not only it helps your body to cool off, it takes off the dirt and grime that clog the pores and prevent thesweat glands from working. Unless these glands work, your skin will not breathe and therefore, will not be healthy. You must also use a natural exfoliator to make sure dead skin cellsare off your face. You may use a homemade mix of gram flour and curd. If you have acne-prone skin, use a mix containing fullers earth (Multani mitti), sandal, rose water and basil. For dry and matured skin, choose egg white, lemon, sandal and curd with a pinch of turmeric and gram flour. However, if you have a sunburn or eruption or broken skin, wait for the area to heal before applying anything.

Though oil is not advisable for your hair during this time of the year, they are perfectly suited to cover your skin and protect it from harmful sun rays, just like SPF in sunscreen lotions. Many consider sunscreens redundant in monsoon but it prevents your skin from unwanted heat. Sunscreens available in the market are said to contain chemicals such as oxybenzone that leave an adverse impact on the hormones. Few indicative natural alternatives of SPF are:

Due to sweat, ambient humidity and dirt, our hair looks dull and limp in monsoon. Many of us also experience more dandruff. While using lemon is an age-old and tested method, fenugreek or methi seeds are also effective in resolving dandruff. It is not advisable to shampoo your hair very frequently as it takes out moisture and dries the scalp. But make sure you wash your hair with a mild shampoo. If you have an oily scalp, avoid using oil of any kind. Those who experience hair fall during monsoon can apply a natural mask of neem paste, a paste of hibiscus flower and leaves, powdered amla, reetha, shikakai, and eggs. Apply this from root to end of the hair, leave for an hour and wash off with a mild shampoo.

Sultry weather during monsoon often makes it difficult to digest the food we eat and result in food poisoning and indigestion. Eat light as eating rich, spicy food and leave some room in your stomach. Maintain a routine for meals and take small frequent meals instead of one or two heavy meals. At night, make sure your diet is light but has enough nutrition. Seasonal fruits and vegetables are the best way to beat a seasonal disease. Run your blender if you are short of time fresh juice of fruits and vegetables are a good alternative and give an equal amount of nutrition and keep you hydrated. Drink plenty of water, tender coconut water to avoid dehydration caused by endless sweating, but avoid alcohol and cold drinks. Mix some sugar and salt with plain water this will help maintain hydration and ensure electrolyte balance in your body.

Novel oral testosterone therapy shows liver health benefits – Urology Times

A novel lymphatically delivered oral testosterone undecanoate (Tlando) is a fixed-dose, well-tolerated, and effective treatment for hypogonadism with liver health benefits that clearly differentiate it from the potentially hepatotoxic oral methyltestosterone, reported Irwin Goldstein, MD, at the American Urological Association 2020 Virtual Experience.

This innovative product has exciting, paradigm-shifting potential for treating men with low testosterone, said Goldstein, director of Sexual Medicine at Alvarado Hospital in San Diego, California, and clinical professor of surgery at the University of California San Diego.

It offers the opportunity to provide safe, effective, and well-tolerated testosterone replacement through the oral route that is the generally preferred method for medication administration. In addition, available data indicate that it not only avoids the adverse hepatic effects that have historically limited use of oral testosterone, but it improves markers of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease [NAFLD] that is a serious and prevalent condition. Low testosterone (ie, hypogonadism) is common in males with NAFLD.

Methyltestosterone is prone to cause liver toxicity with oral ingestion because it is directly transported to the liver through the portal vein, Goldstein said. In contrast, the lymphatically delivered oral testosterone undecanoate is a nonmethylated prodrug of endogenous testosterone, found in Tlando, that avoids first-pass metabolism in the liver and enters the systemic circulation via the lymphatics.

The safety and efficacy of Tlando for treating men with low testosterone was investigated in the 1-year SOAR trial that included 210 men who received the investigational product and a control group of 105 patients treated with topical testosterone gel.

Results from SOAR showed that the oral testosterone undecanoate was associated with a significantly greater increase in free testosterone levels compared with the topical product, and it improved key mental and sexual domains, reported Goldstein, who was an investigator in SOAR and an earlier dosing study.

Safety data in the study included measurement of liver enzymes and showed that reductions were consistently achieved in alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, and -glutamyl transferase among men who had elevated levels of those markers of liver injury at baseline. Rates of normalization for those 4 enzymes ranged from 31% for -glutamyl transferase to 67% for alkaline phosphatase.

40% reduction in liver fat at 4 months

Additional data on the liver effects of the novel testosterone undecanoate product were obtained in a smaller separate trial of men with hypogonadism. Using the objective Magnetic Resonance Imaging Proton Density Fat Fraction technique to measure liver fat percentage, it found that after 4 months, men with NAFLD at baseline achieved an approximately 40% reduction in liver fat. In addition, more than 75% of men who entered the study with NAFLD were considered responders to the oral testosterone undecanoate based on achieving a 30% or greater reduction in the percentage of liver fat.

In addition, the percentage of patients categorized as NAFLD-free rose during the study and nearly doubled by its conclusion, increasing from 34% at baseline to reach 63% at 16 weeks.

Interestingly, the higher the baseline body mass index, the greater the reduction in liver fat achieved with Tlando treatment, and it appears that the improvement in liver fat does not appear to be explained by any decrease in body weight, Goldstein said.

New data from phase 3 clinical trials provide further evidence supporting the safety and effectiveness of the first-to-market oral testosterone undecanoate treatment for hypogonadism (Jatenzo), reported Stanton Honig, MD.

Honig presented results for secondary end points from 2 randomized studies comparing the lipoprotein-coated testosterone undecanoate formulation with topical testosterone treatments showing that both the oral and gel products were associated with statistically significant improvements in psychosocial well-being and bone and body composition parameters. Safety analyses showed the oral testosterone undecanoate was associated with a modest increase in blood pressure, which was slightly higher in men with hypertension at study entry than in men with normal blood pressure and that neither the oral nor gel testosterones had any significant effect on liver function test results.

This novel formulation of testosterone undecanoate is a first-in-class oral testosterone replacement that does not have liver issues, said Honig, professor of clinical urology and director, Mens Health, Yale University School of Medicine, New Haven, Connecticut.

Taken twice daily, it provides hypogonadal men with total testosterone concentrations in the mid-eugonadal range. Its safety profile is generally consistent with injectable and topical testosterone preparations, although the product labeling for oral testosterone undecanoate includes a black box warning about the potential for increased blood pressure. The data collected in the oral testosterone undecanoate studies underscore the need to check blood pressure at some point in men who are started on this therapy, especially those who are hypertensive at baseline.

The 2 trials comprised a 4-month study and a 12-month investigation. Eligibility criteria were similar in the 2 trials. Men ages 18 to 65 years (to 75 years in the 12-month study) were included if they had hypogonadism (serum testosterone <300 ng/dL on 2 morning samples approximately 7 days apart), had signs and symptoms consistent with hypogonadism, and were either naive to or underwent washout from testosterone therapy.

The 4-month study randomized 222 men 3:1 to oral testosterone undecanoate 237 mg twice daily or once-daily topical testosterone solution. A total of 325 men were randomized 1:1 to oral testosterone undecanoate 200 mg twice daily or topical testosterone gel in the 12-month trial. Dose adjustments were allowed based on serum testosterone levels.

The 4 treatment groups were similar with respect to demographics and clinical characteristics in terms of baseline age, body mass index, comorbidities (prediabetes, diabetes, and hypertension), and mean baseline testosterone levels. Time-weighted average testosterone concentration increased to reach mid-eugonadal levels in all 4 treatment groups, with values ranging from 425 ng/dL to 524 ng/dL across all 4 study groups.

Data on psychosocial well-being were collected in both trials using the Psychosexual Daily Questionnaire. Results showed statistically significant improvements from baseline to study completion in mood, sexual desire, weekly sexual activity, and sexual energy with and without a partner with both the oral and topical treatments, Honig reported.

General well-being was evaluated in the 12-month study using the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey questionnaire. In the individual domains, statistically significant improvements were achieved in both the oral testosterone undecanoate and testosterone gel group and occurred in physical functioning, physical and emotional role limitation, social functioning, and bodily pain.

Changes in body composition parameters were also investigated in the 12-month study. The results for the oral testosterone undecanoate group showed spine bone mineral density, hip bone mineral density, lean body mass, and fat mass all improved significantly from baseline at 6 months with further improvements achieved at month 12.

Both the oral testosterone undecanoate and topical testosterone treatments were associated with minimal increases in serum prostate-specific antigen. Overall, the oral and topical treatments were associated with an increase of hematocrit in approximately 5% to 6% of patients.

Importantly, there were no clinical events associated with the hematocrit increases in the oral testosterone undecanoate or the testosterone gel group, nor did any patient discontinue treatment because of elevated hematocrit, Honig said.

Changes in blood pressure were followed using ambulatory monitoring. Among men treated with oral testosterone undecanoate, mean changes in 24-hour systolic and diastolic blood pressure were approximately 5 mm Hg and 2.5 mm Hg, respectively. Comparisons between men with and without hypertension at baseline showed that the average change was slightly higher in the hypertensive group.

Honig said, It is unclear whether the blood pressure rise is just for oral testosterone undecanoate or a general class effect, as it has been seen with subcutaneous testosterone preparations as well. Most importantly, both oral testosterone undecanoate and topical gel groups showed no significant changes in liver enzyme measurements over a 12-month period.

Why one-size-fits-all diets don’t work new study – The Conversation UK

The coronavirus pandemic has pushed health to the forefront of many peoples minds. And while the best way to avoid COVID-19 is not to catch the virus in the first place, were starting to understand why some people become seriously ill with the disease while others have only mild or no symptoms.

Age and frailty are the most important risk factors for severe COVID-19, but data from our COVID Symptom Study app, used by nearly four million people, has shown that diet-related conditions, such as obesity, heart disease and type 2 diabetes, are significant risk factors for ending up in hospital with the disease.

In the UK, around one in three adults are obese and many more are overweight. In the US, around two in five adults and nearly one in five children are obese. From generalised government nutritional guidelines to Instagram-worthy fad diets, theres no end of advice on how to lose weight. Clearly, it isnt working.

This is a complex problem to unpick. Factors such as sex, ethnicity, socioeconomic status and availability of healthy food all play a part. But on an individual level, we still understand relatively little about how each person should eat to optimise their health and weight.

In search of answers, our research team at Kings College London together with our colleagues at Massachusetts General Hospital, Stanford University and health science company ZOE launched PREDICT, the largest ongoing nutritional study of its kind in the world. Our first results have now been published in Nature Medicine.

PREDICT-1, the first phase of the PREDICT research programme, involved more than 1,000 adults (including hundreds of pairs of twins) who were continuously monitored for two weeks to discover how they respond to different foods.

Participants had an initial set-up day in hospital for detailed blood measurements and testing of responses after eating carefully designed set meals. They then carried out the rest of the study at home, following a schedule of set meals and their own free choice of foods. We measured a wide range of markers of nutritional responses and health from blood glucose, fat, insulin and inflammation levels to exercise, sleep and gut bacteria (microbiome) diversity.

This kind of detailed, ongoing analysis was made possible through the use of wearable technologies. These included continuous blood glucose monitors and digital activity trackers, which meant we could keep track of our participants blood sugar and activity levels 24/7. Simple finger-prick blood tests also allowed us to measure their blood fat levels on a regular basis.

All these measurements added up to millions of datapoints, which needed to be analysed with sophisticated machine learning techniques (a type of artificial intelligence) in order to spot patterns and make predictions.

The first thing we noticed was the wide variation in individual insulin, blood sugar and blood fat responses to the same meals, even for identical twins. For example, one twin might have healthy responses to eating carbohydrates but not fat, while the other twin is the opposite. Straight away, this tells us that we are all unique and that there is no perfect diet or correct way to eat that will work for everyone.

The observation that genetics only plays a minor role in determining how we respond to food also tells us that simple genetic tests claiming to determine the right diet for your genes are ineffective and misleading. Curiously, identical twins only shared around a third of the same gut microbe species, which may help to explain some of the variation in nutritional responses and also points towards an opportunity to improve health and weight by manipulating the microbiome.

We also discovered that the timing of meals affects nutritional responses in a personalised way. The same meal at breakfast caused a different nutritional response in some people when eaten for lunch. But in other people there was no difference, busting the myth that there are correct mealtimes that will work for all.

Another surprise was finding that the composition of meals in terms of calories, fat, carbohydrates, proteins and fibre (macronutrients or macros) also had a highly individualised effect on nutritional responses. Some people handle carbs better than fat, for example, while others have the opposite response. So prescriptive diets based on fixed calorie counts or macronutrient ratios are too simplistic and will not work for everyone.

However, despite the wide variability between participants, each persons own responses to identical meals eaten at the same times on different days were remarkably consistent. This makes it possible to predict how someone might respond to any food based on knowledge of their underlying metabolism.

Intriguingly, we found that the levels of inflammatory molecules in the blood varied by up to tenfold, even in seemingly healthy people, and that a rise in these inflammation markers was linked to having unhealthy responses to fat.

We use the term dietary inflammation to refer to these unhealthy metabolic effects that are triggered after eating. Repeatedly experiencing dietary inflammation brought on by excessive blood sugar and fat responses is linked with an increased risk of conditions such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and obesity.

On a more positive note, our findings suggest that it might be possible to improve weight management and long-term health by eating in a more personalised way designed to avoid triggering unhealthy inflammatory responses after meals.

When it comes to weight, weve traditionally put a huge emphasis on factors we have no control over, especially genetics. The fact is, while genetics plays a role, many more important factors affect how our metabolism, weight and health. Its time to move away from overly generalised guidelines, fad diets and one-size-fits-all plans and develop more personalised, scientific approaches to nutrition that understand and work together with our bodies, not against them.
