Pete Davidson annoyed by Kim Kardashian obsessive weight loss regime – The News International

Posted: August 25, 2022 at 2:04 am

Pete Davidson reportedly had enough of Kim Kardashian's obsession to control him, reveals insider.

Speaking to Heat Magazine in a chat, a source close to the ex-couple reveals the comedian as tired of the 41-year-old micro-managing him.

The source explains, "Pete went into this relationship with the best of intentions. He feels bad that Kims upset by his decision to end things, but also feels like he was left with no choice. It had reached the point where it was all people asked him about, like his career as a successful SNL comedian and actor had flown out of the window and all of a sudden he was Mr Kim Kardashian."

The insider continues: "Kims controlling behaviour was key to Petes decision. Kim was constantly micro-managing him, even telling him what he was allowed to wear she insisted he only be seen in brands that were affiliated with her family deals and there were endless meetings and daily call sheets that made his head spin.

"On top of that, he had to keep up with her weight loss regime get in shape, stay off the junk food and look the part of her future husband. By the time the Australia shoot came up, Pete was thrilled to be away from all Kims diet and exercise obsessing, but he still had to contend with her being on his case 24/7 about what he was up to."

Kim and Pete dated for nine months before parting ways in mid 2022.

The reality star - who fans are begging to "stop losing weight" - wore a Balenciaga outfit to film Hailey's Who's In My Bathroom show in LA on Tuesday.

Kim, 41, wore a monogrammed one-shoulder bodysuit teamed with high-waisted pants that seemed to gape at her waist.

She finished off her outfit with a pair of pointed black boots.

The mother-of-four wore her blond hair slicked back in a topknot and framed her face with glam makeup.

Last week, fans shared their concern over Kim's shrinking frame on Reddit, with one writing, "She actually looks gaunt now."

Another added: "I wish she would stop losing weight."

Kim has faced backlash since she admitted todropping 16lbs in three weeksto fit intoMarilyn Monroes iconic dress for theMet Galain May.

She recentlyhit back at criticsof her weight loss, insisting she has dropped the weight in a "healthy way".

If I was starving and doing it really unhealthy, I would say that, of course, thats not a good message," theHulustar toldAllure.

"But I had a nutritionist, I had a trainer. I have never drunk more water in my life.

"I dont see the criticism for other people when they lost weight for roles they are [considered] geniuses for their craft.

The star added: There are so many things out there that are so not accurate and not true.

Back in May, Kim revealed the measures she took to drop so much weight.

TheSKIMSfounder toldVogueat the Met Gala: "I tried [the dress] on and it didn't fit me. I said, 'Give me three weeks.'

"I had to lose 16 pounds down today. It was such a challenge. It was like a [movie] role. I was determined to fit [into] it. I haven't had carbs or sugar in about three weeks."

And in June, theKeeping Up With the Kardashiansalum admitted she has lost even more weight after sticking to the ultra-strict diet.

She said onThe TODAY show: "It actually taught me a lot about my lifestyle and my health, and since then, afterward, I continued to eat really healthy.

"I mean, I'm down 21 pounds now. I'm not trying to lose any more weight, but I have more energy than ever."

Meanwhile,The U.S. Sunexclusively revealed thatKim's familyisconcerned she's losing too much weightand is "barely sleeping."

She previously admitted that studying to become a lawyer and looking after her four children had taken its toll.

Kim looks amazing, always, but shes good at keeping how stressed she is hidden, an insider toldThe U.S. Sun.

She's the skinniest she's ever been and barely sleeping. Her family knows that a lot of this is her rebounding from a very controlling marriage, and her determination to show Kanye how much better she is doing without him."

The source added: But whereas before she was incredibly healthy and well-rested, now she's constantly jetlagged and shes finding it hard to fit workouts in.

"I think Kims really struggling but won't admit it."

Celebrity fitness instructor shares five tips for weight loss and making wellness a habit – The National

Posted: August 25, 2022 at 2:04 am

A fast-paced world, and an ever-evolving country such as the UAE, means maintaining a balance between hectic schedules and a healthy lifestyle is a constant struggle for many. A word of advice: ditch the shortcuts. If youre truly looking to improve overall well-being, you need to think holistically.

Its a buzzword, I know, but if you embrace a holistic transformation, you instil in yourself a state of physical, psychological and spiritual balance.

Your body is a product of your lifestyle and a reflection of your thoughts. Transformation requires a change of perception that is not solely focused on a simple weight-loss journey, but a remodelling of your outlook and actions. Adopting and truly accepting a better lifestyle with a variety of supportive techniques will allow you to thrive long term, no matter how your hectic your weeks and months are.

We are multidimensional beings and are at our best when we work on ourselves wholly and consistently. The aim is to create a difference and adopt intangibles beyond conventional fitness. Holistic transformation focuses on the subconscious mind, pushing people to believe in the true importance of their transformation journey, as opposed to standard fitness training where the focus is largely on the mechanism.

With this in mind, here are some primary challenges people face, as well as ways to recognise and change these habits one by one to kick-start your wellness plan.

We are all aware that if we dont put in the work, results are hard to achieve. Excuses are one of the foremost obstacles to reaching the milestones you set out to conquer. Whether you are busy, have too much going on or even if youre recovering from an illness, fitness is often not seen as a priority until it becomes a necessity.

There are two ways to overcome this: find in yourself an inner reserve of strength and willpower that ensures you exercise self-discipline; or seek out a programme that fosters accountability or a professional who encourages you to make health your number one priority.

Being fully aware of your lifestyle and its repercussions is key. Ask yourself: are my surroundings aiding my fitness journey? Has fitting into social circles and overindulging at weekends become my culture? Just as you watch hard-hitting documentaries on slaughterhouses and climate change on Netflix, educate yourself about the long-term health issues an excessive lifestyle can lead to. The aim is to help you want to challenge and change it.

If you adapt your surroundings to serve you and your goals, thats half the battle won. Itll mean you are more aware of what you eat and who you look up to, emulate and even follow on social media. Surrounding yourself with positive examples will play a major role in your holistic well-being.

I strongly believe a person controls his or her own motivation levels. If you are faced with a lack of desire, dont wait for a sign from the universe. Instead, take baby steps on a daily basis and make decisions based on your goals not your feelings.

Motivation is an emotion; its levels can vary based on the events of your day. Yet, each day is not the same, nor should be treated as such. A lack of motivation on Monday should not dictate your actions for the rest of the week. No excuses.

Celebrity trainer and gym owner Yasir Khan says the body achieves what the mind believes. Photo: TYB Gym

Weve often heard the old adage consistency is key and this is most applicable on your fitness journey. A tendency to give up, especially when you dont get quick results, is one of the biggest reasons people fall off the wellness wagon.

Instead of thinking whats the point? change your mindset to believe a little effort every day will show big results someday. Consistency will follow.

It sounds basic, but a significant number of people are intimidated by the thought of entering a gym. If you dont have it in you to jump head-on into your journey, enlist a friend who can guide you. Fitness buffs like nothing better than to bring others on side.

There is no magic solution to a healthy, well-balanced life. It simply starts the day you decide to make it happen. Better habits start as a single action. Repeated over time, they become second nature. And, that is the simplest way to embark on a journey of holistic transformation, with no doubts and fears.

Empowering people to train their minds to overcome tiresome habits, as well as championing the belief that the impact you make on yourself is an impact made on society, is one of the primary pillars of my Transform Your Body programme, which is centred on the idea that the body achieves what the mind believes.

How do diet plans affect your health and weight loss? – Open Access Government

Posted: August 25, 2022 at 2:04 am

In order to better understand the most common types of diets, and to decide which one works best for your lifestyle and overall goals, Nutritionist Anthony OReilly from BarBend has written a guide to the most popular diet plans which are online.

Listing their advantages and disadvantages regarding a criteria of health factors, previous studies have demonstrated thatthe quality of food is just as if not more important as the number of macronutrients(protein, carbohydrates, and fats) we absorb.

This indicates that if youre following a low-carb diet, you need to ensure eating quality fats and protein, too. Nutritionists also recommendopting for whole grainsover refined starches if eating a diet lower in fat.

While none of these options is the perfect solution to health needs, losing weight and becoming healthier is accessiblein almost any diet, so long as you are ina healthy calorie deficit, indicating you burn more calories than you consume.

Recommending prioritising understanding a healthy calorie balance first, nutritionists then suggest choosing a diet style based on preference and how accessible healthy ingredients are to you as well as arranging daily times to exercise.

Intermittent Fasting is the most popular diet online, receiving a huge 1.2 million average monthly searches worldwide, involvingconsuming all your calories within a set time period and then fasting for the rest of the day.

There are different approaches to intermittent fasting, with the most popular being an 8:16 split meaning you consume your calories in an eight-hour eating window and fast for the other 16 hours of the day. You can also do a 10:16, 16:10, or even a 6:20 eating: which is known as a fasting split.

The concept is eating fewer calories, since you are squeezing them into a narrower timeframe, instead ofconsuming them throughout the day.

Born in theMediterranean, this dietis inspired by the eating habits of people who live near the Mediterranean Sea, for instance, Greece, Italy, Spain etc. who reportedly have some of the longest life expectancies in the world, which is partially due to their diet plans.

This diet is rich in heart-healthy foods such as vegetables, grains, fish, fruit, olive oil, and nuts.Consumption of red meatis kept to a minimum, and dairy intake is moderate and consists of high-quality sources such as yoghurt and cheeses. The Mediterranean diet is the second most popular diet online, receiving 610,000 global monthly searches worldwide.

The Paleo diet is the third most popular diet online, with an average of 200,000 monthly global searches, and has also been referred to as the Caveman diet, involves only eating meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, nuts, and seeds. Any grains, dairy, processed foods, beans, legumes, and sugars must be avoided while adhering to this diet.

Thecarnivore diet is the exact opposite of veganism.

Carnivore devoteesonlyconsume animal-based products, such asmeat, cheese, milk, animal-based fats, and eggs. There are no grains, no vegetables, and no fruits.

Also known as the Zero Carb diet, this diet is the fourth most popular online and receives an average of 126,000 monthly searches worldwide.

The Sirtfood diet focuses on foods high in sirtuins which are a group of proteins found in the body that regulate metabolism.

Therefore, foods which are high in sirtuins can include red wine, dark chocolate, walnuts, arugula, coffee, and extra-virgin olive oil.

The Sirtfood diet receives 52,000 average monthly searches, making it the fifth most popular diet online worldwide.

You must follow a strict routine and therefore might feel more inclined to have cravings

The Ketogenic diet, or keto, ranks as the sixth most popular diet online, with 4,4000 average monthly searches worldwide it has also arguably been one of the most discussed and debated diets.

This diet plan prioritises fat taking up to 65-75% of your daily calories, withmoderate protein consumption(at around 20-30%) and very few carbs (only about 5%, though some versions prohibit carbs altogether).

This diet has been designed to keep the body in a near-constant state of ketosis, a metabolic state where the body creates ketones from fat to use as energy instead of sugar from carbs (the bodys primary and preferred energy source).

How to Get Toned Like Megan Thee Stallion: Her Diet, Workout Routine, and Weight Loss Journey – Goalcast

Posted: August 25, 2022 at 2:04 am

Getting healthy and in shape requires hard work and finding the right weight loss motivation isnt always easy. When embarking on a personal weight loss journey, its important not to focus too much on mere weight loss and the number on the scale.

Rather, as Megan Thee Stallion shows us, you should make health a priority and set smart goals. In other words, goals that reflect the results you want while being realistic and achievable. Indeed, the WAP rapper is a prime example of what losing weight the right way is all about.

Megan Thee Stallion has always looked great, but in January 2021, she told fans she was embarking on a journey to lose weight and get fit. As Megan noted, she planned to do so in a healthy, sustainable way by switching up her eating habits and exercise routine.

Megan shared she was cutting out junk food, embracing a healthy diet, and getting a personal trainer who would push her to work out. She also promised to document her progress in a vlog series called Hottie Bootcamp. Explaining why it was important to make her weight loss journey so public, the rapper admitted it was because she knew it would hold her accountable.

However, she also made sure to explain that this journey is not necessarily about me losing weight. This is about me just getting healthier in general and me seeing how I can transform my body in the healthiest way possible and figuring out whats best for me and my overall health.

The two major pillars of Megan Thee Stallions health journey were diet and exercise. She teamed up with personal trainer Timothy Boutte to help her in both departments and when it came to the latter, he made sure to work all aspects of her body.

Every few days, the rapper shared footage of herself keeping things fresh and trying new exercises as she took part in an anaerobic workout, booty workout, cardio with weight training, and strength HIIT training.

She also tried boxing and pole dancing lessons and made use of everyday workout gear found in most gyms, like the elliptical, BOSU ball, resistance bands, and dumbbells.

By February 2021, Megan had already lost 10 pounds and by March 2021, her abs were the stuff of envy.

Consistency and dedication are key when embracing a new workout plan and the rapper had plenty of both. In fact, as of July 2022, she was still fully committed to exercise. Showing off three intense workouts in a single Instagram video, Megan shared some more of her go-tos, including doing kettlebell exercises, using a cable machine, and walking the stair-climber.

The other major key to Hottie Bootcamps success was diet. As Megan Thee Stallion explained at the start of her transformation, she loves food but she wanted to establish healthier eating habits. As she told fans, I like to snack and I like to eat whatever I want to eat and I just feel like the things that Ive been eating have been not so good for my body and been slowing me down, especially while performing.

Once again, personal trainer Timothy Boutte stepped in and revolutionized her meals. Her days would now start with a pre-workout smoothie for breakfast. Made with strawberries, blackberries, bananas, kale, organic peanut butter, almond milk, and ice, the smoothie provided plenty of flavors, as well as fuel for exercising.

As for lunch and dinner, meals consist of a healthy protein, like sea bass, and plenty of veggies. And when it came to her favorite snacking Boutte stocked her fridge and pantry with plenty of healthy options, like fresh cut fruit, almonds, and everything shed need to make a healthy yogurt parfait with granola and berries.

He also made sure that she threw out all of her junk food and while showing off a grocery haul, explained the importance of switching to fresh ingredients, saying theyd be doing groceries every two days.

Proper hydration was also a priority. One thing that has helped me a lot is drinking a gallon of water a day, Megan told fans.

Megan Thee Stallion was a proponent of body positivity long before her weight loss journey began. In 2020, she released the self-love anthem Body (which appeared on her debut album, Good News) and, as she told Stephen Colbert, the song is definitely about people just celebrating their bodies.

That year, she also performed the track at the American Music Awards and before she hit the stage, she shared a powerful message with all those listening. I love my body. Every curve. Every inch. Every mark. Every dimple, she proclaimed. You may not think my body is perfect, and it probably never will be. But when I look in the mirror, I love what I see.

In fact, Megan is so passionate about self-love and self-acceptance that shes actually the one who coined the phrase Hot Girl Summer. As she explained to The Root, its just basically about women and men just being unapologetically them, just having a good-a** time, hyping up your friends, doing you, not giving a damn about what nobody got to say about it.

Everyones journey to healthy living will look different, but Megan Thee Stallion shows us that the goals should be the same for everyone: getting healthy, rather than shedding pounds. Make sure to love yourself, rather than chasing modern beauty standards.

Treat Options for Dogs and Cats Without Unbalancing Their Diet

Posted: August 25, 2022 at 2:03 am

Weve discussed how many treats your pet can receive per day and a few human foods that are healthy or harmful for your pet, but Ive seen a few families recently where table scraps or just giving a little bit can add up quite a lot! If youre looking to add a little treat outside your pets meals, need options to give medication or to use as training treats, or are looking for some palatability enhancers to encourage your pet to eat, weve created a larger list of foods that are healthy and relatively low in calories so you can avoid unbalancing your pets diet with too many foods coming from outside their main diet.

How Much is Too Much?

Reminder that your pet should only receive 10% of their daily calories from treats so you dont unbalance their diet! A 10 lb dog or cat has an average daily calorie requirement of 300 calories per day so 10% of that would be a maximum of only 30 calories for treats. For your average 75 lb dog, their average calorie requirements are 1,400 calories per day so that means a maximum of 140 calories for treats. Unsure how much your pet should be getting? Check out this previous post with links to calculators that estimate your pets daily calorie needs, including the maximum number of calories they should be getting from treats.

Food Options and Amounts to Meet 15-20 Calories:

*We strongly recommend weighing these out so you know exactly how much your pet will get and so you dont under or overestimate calories coming from volume measurements!

While these treats may be ok for a healthy pet, these foods may not be appropriate for any pets with a medical condition. Be sure to talk to your veterinarian about appropriate treats if your pet has any medical issues.

Ketogenic diet for type 2 diabetes: Side effects, benefits, and alter

Posted: August 25, 2022 at 2:03 am

Type 2 diabetes is a condition that impacts blood sugar control. A person can manage the condition by following a healthful diet and maintaining a healthy body weight. A ketogenic diet is a high-fat, moderate protein, very low-carbohydrate diet that may help some people in supporting blood sugar.

Some people have suggested that this type of diet might help a person with diabetes, but the American Diabetes Association (ADA) do not recommend any single diet over another.

Every person has different dietary needs. Doctors now individualize diet plans based on current eating habits, preferences, and a target weight or blood sugar level for that person.

Foods containing carbohydrates, such as bread, rice, pasta, milk, and fruit, are the main fuel source for many bodily processes. The body uses insulin to help bring glucose from the blood into the cells for energy.

However, in a person with diabetes, insulin is either absent or does not work properly. This disrupts the bodys ability to use carbohydrates effectively and, in turn, causes sugars to be high in the blood.

If a person eats a high-carb meal, this can lead to a spike in blood glucose, especially in a person with diabetes. Diet is important for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Limiting the intake of carbohydrates is the central concept of the keto diet.

Researchers initially developed and continue to recommend the diet for children with epilepsy. However, some reviews maintain that it might also benefit some people with diabetes.

Some research has suggested that following a ketogenic diet might:

In this article, we look at the possible links between the keto diet and diabetes.

The ketogenic diet severely restricts carbohydrates. It forces the body to break down fats for energy. The process of using fat for energy is called ketosis. It produces a fuel source called ketones.

A ketogenic diet may help some people with type 2 diabetes because it allows the body to maintain glucose levels at a low but healthy level.

The lower intake of carbohydrates in the diet can help to eliminate large spikes in blood sugar, reducing the need for insulin.

Studies on ketogenic diets, including research from 2018, have found that they can be helpful in controlling levels of HbA1c. This refers to the amount of glucose traveling with hemoglobin in the blood over about 3 months.

Ketogenic diets may help reduce blood sugar levels. As such, some people with type 2 diabetes who also follow a ketogenic diet may be able to reduce their need for medication.

However, scientists have warned that those following the ketogenic diet alongside an insulin regimen might have a higher risk of developing hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).

Hypoglycemia occurs when blood sugar levels fall to 70 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) or less.

It is best to discuss any diet changes with your doctor while on medication. Not consuming enough carbohydrates can be dangerous when taking certain medications for diabetes.

The ketogenic diet helps the body burn fat. This is beneficial when a person is trying to lose weight, and it may be helpful for people whose excess weight has influenced the development of prediabetes and type 2 diabetes.

Even light-to-moderate weight loss through diet and exercise might support glycemic control, overall well-being, and energy distribution throughout the day in people who have diabetes,

Research has shown that people undertaking a ketogenic diet show an improvement in blood sugar level management and that some have experienced noticeable weight loss.

The ketogenic diet can lead to a variety of other benefits including:

Ketogenic diets are strict, but they can provide ample nutrition when a person follows them closely and is mindful about meeting nutrient needs.

The idea is to stay away from carbohydrate-rich foods that could spike insulin levels. Typically, the carbohydrate intake on a keto diet ranges from 2050 grams (g) per day.

To follow the keto diet, people should try to develop a diet plan in which 10% of the calories come from carbohydrates, 20% come from protein, and 70% come from fat. However, there are different versions of the diet, and proportions vary depending on the type.

They should avoid processed foods and focus instead on natural foods.

A ketogenic diet should consist of the following types of food:

One problem with this diet is that it can be hard to follow in the long term.

Learn about putting together an effective diabetes meal plan here.

The ketogenic diet may be a viable glucose management option for some people with type 2 diabetes.

As the ketogenic diet involves switching to a different source of energy, it can lead to some adverse effects.

The dietary change might cause symptoms that resemble withdrawal from a substance, such as caffeine.

These symptoms may include:

In most instances, the side effects are temporary. People often experience no long-term health problems.

Long-term effects might include the development of kidney stones and an increased risk of bone fractures due to acidosis.

Other complications include the risk of dyslipidemia and a possible increase in hypoglycemic episodes.

Some animal studies have suggested that, since a low-carb diet often involves additional fat, there might be a higher risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), due to a buildup of fats in the arteries. People with diabetes already have an increased risk of CVD.

Children may also experience stunted growth, due to reduced levels of an insulin-like growth factor that can lead to bone erosion. This can mean weak bones that are highly susceptible to fractures when a person follows the keto diet.

There is a lack of evidence about the long-term safety and effectiveness of the keto diet, and researchers have called for more primary studies and more evidence before recommending this diet.

The ketogenic diet is one of many eating plans that might help people manage their weight.

However, a majority of health professionals do not recommend the keto diet for managing diabetes.

There are many other nutrient-dense diets available that aim to balance carbohydrate, protein, and fat intake, control body weight, and keep blood sugar within a healthful range.

Many of these boast measurable benefits for people with diabetes.

Read about the Atkins diet here.

Critics of the ketogenic diet focus on the adverse effects, including the possibility of kidney damage, CVD, and hypoglycemic episodes.

Maintaining this type of diet can also be difficult on a long-term basis, as it is highly restrictive.

This may lead to weight gain later on, particularly if an individual starts to eat unbalanced levels of carbohydrates once they switch back to a regular diet.

Critics also note that there is no evidence to support the long-term benefits of the keto diet.

Health authorities in the United States do not recommend the keto diet as a way to manage diabetes.

It may be better for people to focus on:

A doctor or dietitian can help an individual choose the plan that best fits their lifestyle. People should find a diet that works for them and makes them feel good.

What is the 80/20 rule diet? – Fit and Well

Posted: August 25, 2022 at 2:03 am

Wondering what is the 80/20 rule diet? If you've ever wanted to lose a little weight or even just improve your diet, you've probably tried plenty of fad diets. Of course, most fad diets end up being too restrictive or too prescriptive and the vast majority of people give them up within a month or two. But there is one diet that isn't quite so intensive. Unlike a lot of other trending diets, this diet is all about finding balance.

Well, this diet revolves around eating 80% "healthy" food and 20% "cheat" food. Unlike other diets, this diet doesn't require you to give up all junk food or to do without entire food groups. Instead, it's about being easy on yourself and finding a diet plan that you can sustain. You can even use it alongside the best protein powders for weight loss for extra benefits.

Ready to give it a try for yourself? Read on to find out: what is the 80/20 rule diet and how can you implement it in a safe, healthy way.

Edibel Quintero graduated as a medical doctor in 2013 from the University of Zulia and has been working in her profession since then. Her focus as a doctor lies in obesity and nutrition, physical rehabilitation, sports massage and post-operative rehabilitation. Edibels goal is to help people live healthier lives by educating them about food, exercise, mental wellness and other lifestyle choices that can improve their quality of life.

Dr Shyamala Vishnumohan is a private-practise dietitian/nutritionist and Mum with a passion for evidence-based pregnancy nutrition. She holds a PhD in Food and Nutrition from The University of New South Wales, Sydney and has spent more than 15 years in the area of Nutrition researching plant-based foods and isolated nutrients (Folic acid) and their bioavailability (how much body can absorb).

"The 80/20 rule states that you should get 80% of your daily calories from a healthy, nutritious diet and leave the remaining 20% for your favorite 'cheat meal' or dessert," explains Edibel Quintero (opens in new tab), registered dietician & medical content writer. "It is a very rational and easy-to-apply nutritional system that allows you to enjoy food that may be considered unhealthy without any guilt. In other words, it helps you have a healthier relationship with food, as you don't restrict yourself too much and allow yourself to eat whatever you want."

So, what exactly does that look like in the real world? "Lets do the calculations," says Dr Shyamala Vishnumohan (opens in new tab), PhD, qualified Nutrition Scientist and founder of One to One Thousand Nutrition Clinic. "Eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a week equals 21 meals, so 80 percent would be roughly 17 healthy meals. That leaves you with 4 meals to indulge."

What's wonderful about the 80/20 rule is that it prioritizes filling your diet with healthy foods before you add less healthy foods into your diet. This way, you'll always get the nutrients you need first, before getting those tasty treats that we all crave from time to time.

If your goal is weight loss, the 80/20 rule may help you to lose weight safely and at a healthy pace.

"If you follow the 80/20 rule, you can definitely lose weight or keep it off if you don't exceed your daily caloric intake," Quintero says. "Otherwise, even if you were to eat 100% only healthy foods but in gigantic portions all the time, you will not avoid weight gain."

Vishnumohan also adds that this is a good diet to choose if you want to lose weight in a gentle way that doesn't involve guilt about what you're eating. "I love the fact that this diet is less restrictive and can help you to get rid of the 'guilt' when you treat yourself with a piece of cake," Vishnumohan says. "This is a good thing as feeling less guilty can actually encourage you to sustain the diet in the long run."

She adds, "Also when you prioritize nourishing foods, there is automatically less room for not so healthy foods." One 2014 study (opens in new tab), Vishnumohan notes, even shows how removing feelings of guilt around certain foods can support long term weight loss.

So, on a practical level, what should you eat if you are following the 80/20 rule diet and what "healthy" foods are suitable for the 80% part? Well, there aren't any strict guidelines.

"There are no set rules for what you eat for the 80 part," Vishnumohan says. "Start with whole foods like vegetables, fruits, whole grains, healthy fats, legumes."

If you ensure that 80% of your meals are filled with fresh, unprocessed foods that don't contain too much salt, fat or sugar, chances are, you'll be on the right track.

While the 80/20 rule diet offers balance, it isn't always as easy as it sounds. "In theory, the 80/20 diet sounds simplistic, however you must be organized and dedicate time for meal prep," Vishnumohan warns. "The 80/20 rule may not suit someone who needs to follow a heart healthy diet or manage blood sugar levels as you may need stricter control around saturated fat and processed sugars. Talk to a qualified dietitian to see whether this diet will suit you."

If this diet doesn't suit you or becomes too time consuming, there are other healthy ways to improve your diet without following any fad diets at all. "Instead of classifying food as healthy and unhealthy or good and bad, tune into your hunger and fullness cues and make small sustainable changes," she suggests.

Other ways to build a healthier diet without going on a strict diet include:

Like most diets, the 80/20 rule diet has both pros and cons. While it does offer balance and longevity and it isn't quite as restrictive as some fad diets, it can take up a lot of time and energy.

We recommend chatting with your doctor or nutritionist before trying any new diets to make sure your new plan is safe and healthy.

Bella & Duke amongst the first to receive new RawSAFE food accreditation – Scottish Business News

Posted: August 25, 2022 at 2:03 am

LEADING pet food company Bella & Duke is amongst the first to receive new RawSAFE food accreditation that focuses on the best and safest possible food for our pets.

The new accreditation highlights the quality processes undertaken at Bella & Dukes factory in Inverkeithing, creating mealsdeveloped with nutritionists to ensure pets are happy and healthy.

Pet owners who choose a product with the RawSAFE label can be reassured that it has been manufactured to the highest safety standards.

Food safety has always been one of the primary concerns of the veterinary profession and raw meat industry. After years of poor regulations around pet food manufacturing, RawSAFE was born to create a set of robust standards for raw meat-based diets for pets, with the standards based on those in human food manufacturing.

Dr Brendan Clarke from RawSAFE Directors added: We know from our own clients in our practices that many pet owners who choose to feed a raw diet have difficulties talking to their veterinary teams about anything to do with food. Their vets need to have reliable sources of information to feel confident about their patients diet. Now that the RawSAFE accreditation is available to reassure veterinary professionals about the high standards of manufacturing and the Raw Feeding Veterinary Society is available to provide science-based assessment of species appropriate raw feeding, pet owners can direct their vets to these resources if they express concern.

Tony Ottley, Director of Bella & Duke, said: As the raw food market, and pet owners demand for the highest quality food continues to grow it is incredibly important that manufacturers like us are also challenged to produce to the highest standards. Were committed to our customers and assuring them they are choosing the best quality food available.

We wouldnt eat anything that wasnt produced in hygienic and safe conditions and our pets shouldnt be any different. At Bella & Duke, we have invested heavily in our factory, and with a number of processes in place our customers can be confident their dogs and cats will be safely fed. We want what is best for our pets, so would urge all companies to understand the requirements for this accreditation and meeting theappropriate standards.

Here are five top tips from Dr Brendan Clarke, Bella & Duke Chief Veterinary Adviser, on how to handle your pets raw food safely at home;
