Premier Surgical to relocate weight loss program

Posted: March 14, 2012 at 7:33 am

Premier Surgical Associates is relocating its surgical weight loss program to Turkey Creek Medical Center from Parkwest Medical Center.

The first bariatric procedure at the new Tennova Center for Surgical Weight Loss at Turkey Creek Medical is scheduled for next week. It will represent the first time the surgery has been available to patients at a Tennova facility.

"We're very excited about this move. Patients are going to get the same great care and the same program capabilities," Premier CEO Kevin Burris said.

The surgical weight loss program will be under the direction of Drs. Stephen Boyce and K. Robert Williams of New Life Center for Bariatric Surgery, which is a part of Premier Surgical Associates.

The New Life Center has been affiliated with Parkwest since 2005, but those services will transition over the next couple of months to Turkey Creek Medical Center.

When asked why Premier was relocating the program, Burris deferred comment to Parkwest's parent company, Covenant Health. Premier had initially explored expanding its weight loss services, he added. Premier also operates Foothills Weight Loss Specialists in Maryville.

"Covenant was a great partner, but we're looking forward to working with Tennova," Burris said.

Covenant Health could not be reached for comment.

At Parkwest, the New Life Center saw about 750 bariatric consultations annually, resulting in about 450 bariatric surgery cases.

"The addition of this comprehensive surgical weight loss program is another example of the technology and expertise we are adding to our campus to support the community," Dr. Walt Chiles, III, chair of the medical staff leadership committee at Turkey Creek Medical Center, said in a news release.
